    Episode 154

    3.

“They’re like a pack of dogs.”

I was on board the helicopter watching through the telescope at the massive undead army approaching from afar.

Undead are usually creatures that compete with numbers.

High-level undead such as Death Knight Lich are out of the question and the mainstream of the undead army is made up of the lowest-level undead.

    For example zombies or skeletons.

This was a type of product made by directly using the corpse of the deceased.

The appearance of the undead army approaching Gaeseong was quite unusual.

As if to prove that they were made from the corpses of the Earth some of the zombies and skeletons were wearing the uniforms of the People’s Army that we saw on TV or in dramas.

In other words it means an undead raised from the corpses of North Korean people.

    Kwaaaaaaaang-

They must have spotted us too because occasionally black fireballs flew towards the helicopter we were riding.

But the fireball dissipated as soon as it hit the divine shield.

    “The numbers are incredible.”

“That’s a characteristic of the undead.”

“That’s true. The undead type gates also have similar aspects.”

Minister Yoo Seon-ho who was sitting next to me also smiled bitterly as he looked at the undead army.

The number of undead filling the vast plains far away.

The quality of the Legion didn’t look that great but if that number were to storm the outpost it would be obliterated without a trace.

    The number was that overwhelming.

As if to prove that the information given to us by the Baekmyeong Sect was correct the Purifiers seem to have been using the undead to exert influence on this land.

It is said that the place called <Fortress of the Dead> is particularly crowded with high-level undead entities but the current wave of undead is nothing more than a warm-up.

Minister Yoo Seon-ho who had been observing the undead army for a long time looked at me and said.

“This is a new weapon that was developed very quickly. What will you do if it doesn’t work?”

“What can I do? I have to hit it with my body.”

The causality assigned to battle has already become infinitely merciful.

Even if you wipe out those low-level undead things like causality won’t happen.

I nodded slightly and continued speaking with the corners of my lips raised.

“But it seems like it will be effective… Let’s just wait and see. If the experiment is successful we can reduce the burden on the undead right?”

The immortal legion who do not fear death are said to be the most difficult type of monster for humans on Earth to deal with.

Because some of them spread plagues and most of the monsters in the undead army possessed weapons that were lethal to living beings.

But what if there was a way to effectively hit those undead from a distance?

The nature of the battle will change dramatically.

That is why the U.S. government and the South Korean government readily responded to our church’s request.

Toby our technical expert stepped forward and expressed his admiration for Earth’s engineering skills.

It is said to be so developed that it cannot be compared to Eden.

The goal of this experiment is to focus on the possibility of combining Earth’s ‘technology’ and divine power which Toby admired.

    Break the devil.

As an apostle of Limen it was my job to devise an effective way to drive out the demons and their minions.

“I have already sent you all the shooting data. I apologize for taking some time because it is an area where we cannot receive satellite assistance.”

The officer sitting next to me to direct the fire spoke with a very excited expression and I shrugged.

“You don’t have to be sorry. I was an artilleryman too. Thank you for your hard work.”

    “ah!”

“Even though I’m like this I’m still a military service member. I was discharged as a sergeant after my service was completed.”

The officer’s eyes burned hotly at my words.

…What part of it really touched you?

I smiled awkwardly at him and then looked back at the undead army.

    Undead advancing slowly.

I think it’s time to give these guys a taste of something hot.

“Would you like to try it?”

Back in Eden when I used to crush the heads of demons and beasts with my fists.

I’ve had a few novel-like fantasies about what it would be like if we had modern weapons.

My heart flutters at the thought that I can make my imagination from back then a reality.

Oh by the way I’ve already decided on the name of the weapon.

“Prototype of Heavenly Punishment. Ready to launch.”

Divine punishment. Literally punishment from heaven.

Although it is just a prototype now I hope to make it into a series like Cheonpunishment 1 and Cheonpunishment 2 someday.

Wouldn’t that reduce my workload and allow me to relax with my family?

    “Three. Two. One. Fire.”

That’s how the launch of ‘Heavenly Punishment’ which contained my romance and hopes began.

    Kwakwaaang-!

Soon countless multiple rocket launchers were launched from the Kaesong outpost with the sound of thunder.

Rockets equipped with warheads containing large quantities of sacred stones.

In theory it’s a complicated story that conveys the ‘wave’ of divine power by carrying it on the shock wave generated when gunpowder explodes… but in fact I don’t need to know that much.

There’s only one thing I need to know.

    “Landing!”

The only thing that matters is how effectively that technology can eliminate the undead.

Some of the undead who could use black magic hurriedly cast counter magic to intercept the rockets but since they were rockets that Leo had consecrated one by one throughout the night they did not move at all.

The magic of the liches belonging to the legion was only enough to shoot down some rockets but it was not enough to change the trend.

So hundreds of rockets successfully landed where the undead army was.

    Kwaaaaaaaah!

    Kwaaaaaaaang!

Immediately there was a huge explosion and clouds of dust rose up from all directions obscuring the view.

Because of this the others in the helicopter could not see the power with their own eyes but Luna and I were able to clearly see the power of the bombing just now.

    “oh.”

    Exclamations flowed from my mouth

“…Is this the land of the divine?”

…A word that seemed like an exclamation came out of Luna’s mouth.

    It can’t be helped

“Wow is it worth the money?”

“Can’t we export this to Eden as well? I think it’s possible since our church has a stake in it…”

Because more than half of the undead army that had filled the ground was swept away at once.

Perhaps because the legion was mostly comprised of low-level undead the effect was greater than I had expected and even the Lich that had hastily created a barrier was staggering.

I nodded with satisfaction as I looked at the scene.

    “After all explosions are art.”

    Heavenly Punishment Prototype.

The experiment was a great success.

    4.

    Washing the dishes was easy.

Luna and I get off at the place where the punishment has swept through and it ends with us each dealing with Lich and Death Knight.

    It didn’t take that long.

The combination of divine power and explosion was so hot that even high-level undead such as Death Knights and Liches were not normal.

Thus the first crisis at the Kaesong outpost ended and we successfully returned to base.

The first question Minister Yoo Seon-ho asked when he returned to base with me was this:

    – Minister Yoo Seon-ho: If you can destroy the army on your own why do you insist on developing a new missile?

-Me: Oh that? It would be nice if you could do my work for me. I could also play with Siyeon more. My future dream is to be unemployed.

Seriously I’m not joking. That’s exactly why I decided to develop a weapon with divine powers.

How long must I go around personally subduing the undead?

It would be better to give others a means to fight back.

Why isn’t there a saying that it’s better to teach a man how to fish than to give him a fish?

Still it was a very successful experiment.

I should at least give those purifiers a separate thank you later.

I figured that finding out where their base was would be a good gift to shoot a missile at them with divine power.

“A weapon that can give you an overwhelming advantage in battles against the undead. It would also be effective against demons and beasts.”

Luna nodded as she looked over the report the soldiers had compiled for her.

Certainly the impact that the punishment showed was tremendous.

Moreover its value can be seen as even more precious because it was an experiment that announced the revival of a conventional weapon that had been practically abandoned.

“In America the study of conventional weapons using magical power is called magical engineering… Should we call it sacred engineering?”

“It doesn’t matter what you call it. But there’s one problem right?”

    “The cost is steep.”

    “yes.”

The raw material for the Divine Stone Magic Stone is still a precious material. The US and South Korean governments provided high-grade Magic Stones for this experiment but if you convert the value of the material into money it is definitely a burdensome price.

    And that’s not all.

“The manufacturing process is also very complicated. When making a warhead you need a torch and skilled craftsmen.”

To craft a warhead you must melt down a sacred stone.

That’s why Toby was mobilized for this work.

Recently they acquired the Anarchy Guild which is comprised of production-oriented players.

Toby’s contribution was enormous but it took some time for the Anarchy Guild players to grow into excellent craftsmen.

Mass production of the Heavenly Punishment is still tight.

But those were problems that time would eventually solve and for today I should just be satisfied with seeing the possibility and move on.

Because we’ve discovered a way to avoid being bound by causality.

“But still the firepower is definitely….”

Luna nodded as she read the report.

“Earth’s weapons are certainly lethal. They’re terrifying. Some of them seem like they wouldn’t be able to keep up with even the most powerful magic.”

“A science fiction writer once said that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. That may be true.”

Especially when it comes to weapons-related skills they are comparable to or have already surpassed magic.

The power of nuclear missiles would be difficult to match even with magic.

“We need to continue our research.”

“If this continues you will enter the military industry as well. Isn’t our church too octopus-like?”

“Who would say anything if they said they were preparing for the Holy War? They are just preparing for something like the Great Undead War and the Great Demon Beast War. It would be good to have a means to effectively subdue those who possess magic.”

    “That’s right.”

It was a field well worth studying.

I heard that there are still many people dying from national crisis level evil spirits and such.

So while I was talking with Luna about this battle in the field tent

“Your Majesty Archbishop Leo Lumen has completed his mission and returned.”

Leo’s voice was heard from outside the tent.

    “Come in.”

Then Leo completely unscathed entered the tent.

Next to him was a middle-aged man wearing armor that was little more than rags.

The man’s identity is none other than Hwang the leader of the Race Guild.

It was easy to tell how they had spent their day.

“All eleven people including Archbishop Leo Lumen safely joined the outpost. It is all thanks to the grace of Limen and His Holiness.”

“You’ve worked hard. Was it very difficult?”

“There was more work to do than I thought. Representative Hwang will explain that part to you. Representative Hwang?”

    “…Let me explain.”

“Oh please sit down and talk.”

I offered a chair to Representative Hwang and Representative Hwang sat down with his shoulders hunched.

    A look of being absent-minded.

Representative Hwang bowed his head silently for about three minutes and I waited for him leisurely.

And finally he opened his mouth again.

“I have no shame in asking you this favor. Could you… split the cost of this request and pay it in installments?”

“Oh my. It seems like there have been a lot of unexpected situations.”

A contract created through the combined efforts of Archbishop Laparte and Advisor Park Ji-won.

It looks like that contract went through properly?

“Apart from the contract I’m just glad that Mr. Hwang arrived here safely. If there were any casualties….”

“Thanks to Archbishop Leo’s efforts there were no deaths.”

“That’s great. What in the world is more precious than life? You can just pay the commission fee slowly. Haha! Surely our CEO Hwang wouldn’t ask me to lower the commission fee or anything like that? Haha!”

I’ll say it again there’s no end to it.

It’s definitely not the case that Representative Hwang’s daughter saw our demonstration and said ‘You don’t have parents’ and that’s why she’s doing this.

I looked at Representative Hwang with a more kind expression than ever.

    Our Pope please stop this
