Somebody Stop the Pope – 139

Episode 139
3.
Could it be because I left everything concerning the elders to Archbishop Lapart?
I was able to return home with a very relieved mind.
Luna went out drinking with Oh Jun-woo and Seol-hwa so it seemed like she would be able to have a comfortable night for the first time in a long while.
You can imagine how hard it was to get Luna away from you when she suggested going out for a company dinner. At that point she was addicted to company dinners. She even got the nickname “Chief Lu” which is a very fitting nickname.
“My brother is here.”
As I was coming into the house I spoke cheerfully and then Siyeon popped out from the living room.
“Big brother! You’re not that late today!”
I glanced at my watch and saw that it was already 9 PM.
Seeing Siyeon say something like that even though I was easily past my regular quitting time I must have been really busy lately.
I smiled brightly at Shiyeon who smiled brightly at me.
“Our demonstration. How was your day?”
“Yeah! I had so much fun playing with the puppy you brought me! Did I take it for a walk after dinner earlier? Hehe. I’ll raise it to be really pretty from now on!”
“Huh? A puppy?”
…no way?
As expected a black Labrador Retriever soon appeared behind the demonstration.
The guy stared at me for a moment and then muttered something in a weak voice.
“…Woof woof.”
It was Beth.
I didn’t feel the guy around the temple earlier. I had so much work to do today that I forgot about him for a moment but he must have been at my house.
In addition there was a white cat sitting on Beth’s back.
“Master are you here?”
Snow White was singing Golgol Song on Beth’s back and the sight of her was very heartbreaking.
Cute on top of cute. Maybe it was because of the cuteness layered on top of cuteness that the atmosphere in the house was more harmonious than ever.
I nodded looking at Beth with a pitiful expression.

“You’ve worked hard Beth.”
Then Beth barked again.
“Woof woof.”
-Unlike you he is a kind and gentle child.
“At least get the food out of your mouth.”
-Hmm it tastes good. As you said I’m glad I came here.
A spirit that enjoys eating dog food… This is truly precious.
It’s a shame that it’s top-quality feed but isn’t it better than eating a lot of Korean beef?
Moreover it is right in front of our religious sect’s sacred site where the sacred tree is located so it would be possible to recuperate here as well.
“I rather like it.”
If the guy would guard the house I would be more than happy to help him.
Since ancient times dogs have been one of the most precious companions that guard the home.
In particular in our house unlike Siyeon who runs around diligently there is one family member who spends most of his time stuck in the corner of the room.
“Brother are you here?”
“Oh really? Were you editing it?”
“I’m a bit busy these days because Uncle Toby’s videos are doing well.”
It was Inwook.
Inwook yawned and came out into the living room.
However thanks to the top-grade sacred stone that I had placed separately in our house Inwook’s dark circles were noticeably reduced.
My complexion has also improved significantly.
I spoke to Inwook who was drinking water in a subtle manner.
“From now on Beth you take your morning walks.”
“Morning walk?”
“Beth is a large dog so I have to take her for a walk in the morning and evening. You know the sacred tree in our church? Make sure to take her for a walk around there.”
Even though divine power is said to be a panacea moderate exercise is essential.
Inwook sighed as if he was annoyed after hearing what I said but soon hugged Beth tightly and said.
“Okay Beth. Do you want to go for a walk with me every morning?”
“…Woof woof.”
“Wow it really seems to understand what people are saying. Is it possible to understand without separate training? Is this a genius dog?”
As he said that Inwook rubbed his face against Beth’s and Snow White who had been on Beth’s back jumped up on Inwook’s head.
It seemed that Luna hadn’t told Beth anything about his identity when she brought him here.
He is a genius dog to the spirits.
Although her pride was hurt Beth quietly accepted Inwook.
Should I say that he has a good personality or that he finds it annoying?
‘It’s bustling.’
Still it was a nice sight to see.
Since we moved in our house which had always felt spacious now feels full.

I guess this is why people keep pets.
In particular seeing the black Beth and the white Snow White together was so harmonious.
An exquisite harmony of black and white.
Now I felt like the missing piece of the puzzle was complete.
“Then I’ll go in and wash up.”
“I’ll peel the fruit. Wash it and then eat it.”
“thanks.”
That’s when I went into my room to change clothes.
“Why are you following me?”
Beth and Snow White followed me into the room walking confidently.
The first one to speak was Snow White.
“Master. Honestly if you’re going to bring a new beast shouldn’t you consult me first?”
That voice should normally only be heard by me but Beth answered on my behalf wondering if there was a different way to hear it.
-The young spirit is so cheeky. Wasn’t there a story about a puppy like this?
『Who said he was a puppy? If you think about it he was a cat. It must be nice to grow older you old man. And he’s not a spirit he’s a divine being. A divine being.』
-You have a rough mouth. But I will endure it a few times to see the Pope’s face. My patience does not last long.
『Who would say that!』
If you look closely it’s a scene where Behemoth who was eating Baekdu Mountain and the divine beast representing the Limen cult are engaged in a war of nerves…
“Kyaaaaah!”
“Woof woof!”
Why does it look like pets are just baring their teeth at each other?
I let out a deep sigh as I watched the war of nerves unfold between the two creatures before me.
“You were just sticking together just now. Snow White weren’t you climbing on top of Beth just now?”
『That’s because I have to reassure Siyeon and Inwook! How worried would they be if they fought from the first day? That’s why I just hung out with them.』
-Shouldn’t you look like you’re on good terms with your family?
There was compromise in an unexpected area.
At least you don’t want to be seen fighting in front of your siblings?
Like smart guys they seem to keep the line.
“Get along well.”
“How can I get along with that foolish guy…?”
-I don’t like having other spirits in my territory….
A war of nerves between a spirit and a god that doesn’t seem like it will be easily resolved.
I quietly watched the war of nerves between the two and then quietly took my gauntlets out of my pocket.
And he said placing the gauntlet on my bed.
“Then why don’t you two fight? Let’s see what happens.”
At my words with a sly smile the two looked back and forth between me and the gauntlet. Then Snow White climbed back on top of Beth and said.
“Get along well Beth.”
-Please take care of me too.
Yeah how nice it looks when we don’t fight?
4.
The next morning.
I returned to work at the temple escorted by my family and as soon as I arrived at the office I was able to receive the results of the interrogation conducted by Archbishop Lapart.
“Inter-species contact has been virtually non-existent and we’ve only had four encounters with strange beings possessing magic… Is that all there is to it?”
“That’s what I’ve found out so far. And this is a map of the surrounding area that I created based on the guy’s testimony.”
A small map given by Archbishop Laparte.
It was a map that marked the terrain of the surrounding area centered around the guys’ residence as well as what races and beasts were living there.
I nodded slowly as I checked the map.
“This is the most encouraging achievement.”
“I think so too Your Majesty.”
“Albino orcs trolls goblins… there are so many of them.”
“It looks like the northern land of Eden. There were various different races in the northern land of Eden as well.”
Judging from the handwriting on the map it seemed like Leo had personally touched the map.
Dark elves are naturally very good at reconnaissance.
The information gathering ability which is centered around the art of hiding in trees cannot be ignored.
In fact they were also a race that was in charge of information for each Demon King’s army.
It was information collected by those dark elves and given the circumstances there would be no lies mixed in.
It seemed like it would be of great help in South Korea’s future northward advance operation.
I nodded slowly and looked at the map. Then Leo pointed to a spot marked with a red dot on the map and asked.
“The fortress of the dead.”
“According to the elder it is said that the fortress suddenly appeared one day. The undeads were rushing out and the force was already considerable.”
“If it was a fortress of that size there’s no way we couldn’t have detected it…”
At that moment I suddenly remembered the special metal I had encountered through Wang Wei last time.
A metal that perfectly shields and hides magic.
If the fortress had been built using that metal it would likely have escaped our detection capabilities.
And that also meant that there was a high probability that the Purifier was involved in that fortress.
Come to think of it I think the Purifiers and Baekmyeonggyo have been too quiet lately.
When those guys are quiet it’s usually because they’re plotting something.
“I think we need to talk in person. Is that guy still down there?”
Archbishop Lapart nodded to my question.
“Yes he is in the interrogation room. However he is not in a state to have a proper conversation.”
“hmm?”
“It is by no means in a condition to be shown to Your Majesty. You may lose your eyesight so please look at it a little later.”
“…How bad is it.”
“I’m really sorry to tell you this.”
I don’t know for sure but it was definitely beyond what I could have imagined.
It was a good decision to leave the questioning to them.
It’s not an easy skill to extract only the necessary information without killing someone.
Interrogation can be said to be something that requires delicate skills.
Since returning to Earth I’ve been careful to be aware of all sorts of things but this time there was absolutely no reason to be cautious.
“Leo.”
“Yes Your Majesty.”
“You look happy? You must have really relieved your stress.”
“No I just asked the guy to forgive his sins. Their sins can only be washed away through suffering.”
Leo’s relieved expression was proof of that.
Leo as always was wearing a monocle and holding a Bible in his left hand.
It’s kind of scary to think that I might have had something else in my hand last night.
“Don’t worry Your Majesty. I will spare his life until the victims can bring him to justice.”
“It’s good to be strong. Ask a little more about the Purifier. There might be something like a gold bar hanging on it so make sure to check.”
“All right.”
It has to do with the purifier.
The more certain it was the better.
The elder guy was going to be sucked out of us to the bone marrow and then fall into the hands of the survivors. We had to extract everything we could from him before then.
“Let’s copy the map Leo drew and give it to the government. It will be a great help in planning the operation.”
This map is more needed by the government than by our church.
It will be a very important milestone in the northward advance plan that the government is preparing with all its might.
“It’s time for our church to start preparing.”
The Northward Advance Operation being promoted by the government was a tremendous opportunity not only for the government but also for all awakened people in the Republic of Korea.
And the same goes for our church.
Among the privileges we received from the government through the last Northeast Asia Exchange there was also the ownership of the magic stone mine that our religious order discovered in the lost land.
“Let’s use this opportunity to secure a new sacred stone mine and provide more practical experience to the new recruits. Let’s prepare thoroughly.”
So while I was talking with Archbishop Lapart about future plans
Knock knock.
Someone knocked on the office door.
“Come in.”
Then Jin Seo-jun the temple manager and Seung-woo’s father came into the office.
Mr. Jin Seo-jun’s expression looked more bewildered than ever and as soon as I saw his expression I knew something had happened.
“Your Holiness. A small problem…”
And then at Jin Seo-jun’s subsequent words I frowned and asked back.
“…In front of the temple?”
Our Pope please stop this
