    Episode 138

    43. Welcome to Korea

    1.

The total number of identified survivors is 102.

It was an approximation of the figure Beth had given me.

After collecting all the survivors we immediately headed back south.

There were some demons who rushed from afar after seeing the huge flames but they were torn to pieces by the four helicopters armed with sacred stones.

The original goal was to return before sunset but it took longer than expected.

Because there were several survivors who needed emergency treatment.

    “Still you arrived safely.”

I let out a small sigh as I looked out the window at the sight of the air squadron.

It was a day that felt noticeably longer recently.

Would it have been possible to bring back so many survivors if we hadn’t used a helicopter?

The desire to purchase military helicopters also grew rapidly.

    “This is…..”

Eun-taek Lee who was sitting next to me also looked out the window with a look of overwhelming emotion.

On my way here I had many conversations with Mr. Lee Eun-taek.

What was the situation in North Korea after the Dimension opening how they got captured by the dark elves etc.

Of course the time was too short to talk about everything so I couldn’t hear the details.

But from now on all that’s left is time.

There were plenty of opportunities to talk to him.

    -We’re landing.

The captain’s voice came through the headset and soon the helicopter we were on successfully landed on the ground.

    Woohoo.

As soon as the closed helicopter door opened medical personnel waiting outside immediately entered the transport compartment.

“First let’s get the patients off the helicopter Pope Kim Si-woo.”

    “please.”

    “yes.”

The person who appeared to be the team leader bowed to me and then quickly ordered his team members to get the survivors out of the helicopter.

    It was a coordinated movement.

I watched them unload the survivors for a moment then I got off through the side door with Mr. Lee Eun-taek.

A wide open view as expected from an aviation battalion.

The runway appeared to have been cleared to accommodate four transport helicopters.

    “Pope Kim Si-woo.”

There was an unexpected guest on the runway.

As soon as I got off I looked at the face of the man who had come to find me and smiled awkwardly.

    “President Seo.”

Now President Seo Shin-woo always calls me ‘Pope Kim Si-woo’ instead of ‘Kim Si-woo the Awakened’ even when I’m outside.

President Seo said taking my hand.

“I received your message. Thank you very much. Thank you very much!”

“It’s not something to be thankful for. But you’ve prepared a lot.”

There was a significant medical presence on the runway.

Even excluding military ambulances there were a huge number of them as if they had arranged for ambulances in the surrounding area separately.

“They are the ones who have suffered in that land for a long time. It was something I had to do. Isn’t power given to us to use in times like this?”

As I was exchanging brief greetings with President Seo Lee Eun-taek who was standing next to me cautiously opened his mouth.

“Is this person… the president of South Korea?”

“Ah let me introduce myself first. President Seo. This person here is Lee Eun-taek. He is the only one among the survivors who is still conscious.”

    “Ahhh.”

President Seo bowed to Mr. Lee Eun-taek. Just as Mr. Lee Eun-taek was about to be taken aback by the president’s sudden action the president raised his head again and tried to suppress his emotions as he spoke.

“Please blame our shortcomings. We are sorry for not helping you sooner. We are truly… sorry for not being able to get you out of that hell sooner.”

President Seo paused for a moment and then quietly looked at Lee Eun-taek.

And he concluded his speech in a low voice.

“Welcome to the Republic of Korea Mr. Eun-taek Lee.”

    “iced coffee.”

How is Mr. Lee Eun-taek feeling now?

One thing was certain: tears were streaming from his eyes once again.

    I quietly watched their conversation.

There were no reporters or presidential security guards on the runway.

Only medical personnel were running around frantically to transport the survivors.

Medical staff running around busily and the president with his head bowed.

And there is one survivor who is looking at the president with tears in his eyes.

As I quietly watch that scene my heart naturally becomes warm.

In this way President Seo repeatedly apologized to Mr. Lee Eun-taek for a long time and it ended only after Mr. Lee Eun-taek hugged President Seo and said it was okay.

    “Pope Kim Si-woo.”

    “Yes Mr. President.”

“Can we take this person to a medical facility?”

I nodded my head to his question as if it was a natural answer.

“If the president wants to take care of the people himself what justification would I have to stop him?”

    “…thank you.”

“I have also administered first aid to the other survivors. Since chronic poisoning cannot be cured in one sitting please let me know the medical facility where they are being transferred. I will dispatch priests from the church.”

It was a miracle that he had survived for three years.

Chronic addictions that could be life-threatening were treated but separate treatment was absolutely necessary to restore the body’s balance.

I have blessed them with increased regenerative abilities so with proper treatment they will recover quickly.

However there were still major problems in areas other than physical ones.

“Most of them are mentally exhausted. Divine powers could be of great help to them.”

People who were exposed to terrible suffering for three years.

As Mr. Lee Eun-taek said half of them had already suffered serious psychological damage to the point of mental collapse.

Perhaps the greatest aftereffect for survivors will be the memories of that time.

President Seo nodded slowly as he listened to me.

“I will keep that in mind.”

    This concludes our work.

Now all that’s left to do is pray that they receive treatment and overcome those memories.

    “Your Holiness.”

Mr. Lee Eun-taek looked at me.

    “Yes Mr. Eun-taek.”

“…Thank you. Thank you so much for saving my life. Will I be able to see the Pope again?”

I smiled brightly again at his question and answered softly.

“I will be waiting at the shrine in Seoul. I will always keep the door open so please come slowly.”

After all saving someone is a happy thing.

“May Limen embrace your wounds with warmth.”

With my quiet prayers Mr. Lee Eun-taek slowly moved away.

It was a tiring but pleasant night.

    2.

So all the survivors were taken over by the government and I returned to the temple with Leo Luna Sulhwa and Oh Jun-woo.

It was a helicopter when I went there and a helicopter when I came back.

Aiden returned to the US military base with the US military side from the aviation battalion.

I barely managed to shake off the nagging to have a drink until the end.

If the people from America hadn’t taken the guy away we would have been in big trouble.

Since he said he would come to Seoul late in the evening I planned to finish up work quickly and leave work before then.

If you close the door and sleep at home they won’t be able to come in.

At least he wasn’t rude in front of Siyeon.

Anyway our group was able to return to the temple safely.

“Your Holiness I have been waiting for you.”

Archbishop Lapart who has been acting as the chief priest of the temple since we came to Earth warmly welcomed us as we disembarked from the helicopter.

Next to him stood Toby who looked like he had finished his work for the day wearing a T-shirt that said ‘I Love Beer’.

    “Welcome Your Majesty!”

“It’s so late why aren’t you all leaving work?”

“How can I leave work when His Majesty hasn’t returned! Don’t worry! I’ll make sure to get my overtime pay! Haha!”

Is adaptability one of the basic capabilities of our church?

Toby had adapted amazingly to life on Earth.

Toby who had burst into such a hearty laugh soon looked back at me and said with a frown.

“That big-eared guy. Isn’t that a dark elf?”

“Toby has a good eye for detail. That’s right. It’s loot.”

“There are big-eared people on Earth too. I don’t like big-eared people but black-eared people… Phew. I guess I’ll have to drink some stout today. Hey tsk.”

It’s not easy to turn all your thoughts towards beer.

I shrugged my shoulders and then looked at Archbishop Laparte.

“The survivors brought from the North need medical attention. Archbishop Lapart. Please select the best among the trainees. I will include Seungwoo.”

“Okay I’ll make sure to select the right ones. When will the treatment begin?”

“We will proceed as soon as the list is received from the government and if there are any changes in the future we will notify you separately.”

    “Yes Your Majesty.”

Archbishop Lapart bowed his head politely. Then he pointed to the dark elf and said:

“That thing is not in very good condition. I do not like bringing something unclean into the sacred ground.”

    “Oh this guy?”

    From Hamheung to Inje Gangwon-do.

And from Inje Gangwon-do to Jongno-gu Seoul.

This is the guy who was brought here hanging from the helicopter the whole time.

Since his magic was sealed his physical abilities must have deteriorated so how could he be of sound mind?

I gently grabbed the elder by the neck.

Since ancient times there has been a method that has been effective in waking up those who have fainted.

    “They’re all here. Get up.”

    Taaaaah!

I lightly slapped the guy on the cheek. Then his eyes widened.

    “Ugh ugh.”

“I came to a good place but I’m still losing my mind. What’s the use of lying around like this before the real good stuff even starts?”

In the meantime the guy rolled his eyes as if he wanted to live.

It looks like he’s looking around to find a way out.

I slapped the guy in the face once more and threw him lightly to the ground. Then I said to Archbishop Laparte:

“I think we need to interrogate you. If I do you’ll probably get killed.”

    “Hmm is that so?”

“He’s the guy who did all sorts of things like capturing humans feeding them poison and dissecting them. His entire clan was wiped out and he’s the only survivor left. And he seems to know quite a bit.”

The first alien race captured from the Lost Lands.

You will know a lot of useful information such as changed terrain.

“You also know that I am the Pope so please focus on that part as well. Also since our church may advance into the Lost Lands in the future I would like you to dig up all the relevant information without fail.”

Archbishop Lapart nodded at my words. Then he slowly approached the dark elf elder.

“I am a bit older now… I would like Archbishop Leo to participate in the interrogation as well.”

    “Okay Leo. Please.”

“I was just about to ask permission to participate in the interrogation. Thank you Your Majesty. I will definitely live up to your expectations.”

It was Leo who witnessed the tragedy with his own eyes along with me.

Would Leo really leave that guy alone?

Just by looking at Leo’s expression I could tell how much anger he was holding back right now.

As I said last time interrogation should also be done by a specialist.

Medicine to the pharmacist interrogation to the inquisitor.

I nodded in satisfaction and then spoke quietly to the elder who was lying on the floor.

“It’s going to be an unforgettable night. How does it feel to be on the other side? As I said before… you can’t beg to be killed. Even if you ask to be killed I can’t do it until the survivors give me permission.”

    “Please…..”

Just as the elder was about to say something

    Kkudduk.

    “Kkaaaak!”

Archbishop Lapart who had been watching the boy quietly kicked the boy’s thigh with his foot.

And he expressed his displeasure in a cold frosty voice.

“Do you think you are worthy of conversing with His Holiness? This is the sacred ground of our Order. From now on you will not even open your mouth without our permission. I will burn your mouth with the sacred iron. Archbishop Leo!”

    “Yes Archbishop Lapart.”

“The night is short. Let’s hurry.”

    “yes.”

Leo followed Archbishop Lapart’s instructions and dragged the elder along as he walked toward the back door of the temple.

A secret back door that leads directly to the basement.

I nodded my head in satisfaction as I watched them slowly moving away.

    “It’s a happy ending a happy ending.”

Let’s just ignore the fact that Mr. Oh Jun-woo’s face turned pale again.

    Our Pope please stop this
