Somebody Stop the Pope – 117

Episode 117
36. The calm before the storm?
1.
The next morning after a thrilling night of welcoming ceremonies.
In the temple’s office executive-level meetings were held early in the morning.
“…So today everyone will wait in the Holy Land. Although it is not very likely there is a possibility that the Chinese Awakened will cause trouble. Today the new players will undergo physical training and doctrine education at the training facility inside the Holy Land. Physical training will be handled by Luna and doctrine education will be handled by Archbishop Lapart and Archbishop Leo.”
“Yes Your Majesty.”
“All right.”
The attendees of the meeting were entirely members of our church.
Leo Luna Laparte Archbishop Toby.
I ordered them to be quiet for today.
This is because the eyes of the Chinese awakened people leaving the guest house last night were so murderous.
Those guys are definitely up to something.
Even a little conversation would tell me that these guys were armed with thoroughgoing Sinocentrism and there was no way they would stay still for a day.
“I don’t understand why those so-called Awakened people are taunting you about how hard it is to fly. Isn’t that right Your Majesty? If you’re going to feel unwell after flying for a bit why don’t you just stay home and rest? Why are you coming to another country and making a fuss?”
“In my office the word ‘shit’ is a bit… Archbishop Lapart. When you give doctrine training later please include Luna in your training. As the commander of the Holy Knights there is a certain dignity that you must uphold right?”
“I will educate you sufficiently.”
“Huh.”
As expected Luna doesn’t have a card as good as Archbishop Lapart. As soon as Archbishop Lapart nodded Luna covered her mouth with her hand.
Well actually what Luna said isn’t wrong.
The Chinese side asked for a day of rest today.
The reason is to achieve the best sparring condition.
He kept talking about all sorts of nonsense starting with jet lag and saying he needed to rest because he came by plane.
The time difference between Shanghai where the guys’ plane took off and here in Seoul is only one hour.
Even if the route is changed by flying monsters the flight time is at most 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Considering that even Japan which has a similar travel distance remained silent it can be said that this was a unilateral coercion on China’s part.

Even if it wasn’t for ordinary people it’s unlikely that an Awakened person going into a duel would feel that tired.
“While the exchange is in progress the police and other security personnel will be deployed again near the Holy Land. Oh and Toby how is the transfer of Mithril refining technology to the government going?”
“Well that’s very good. The technology that the Earthlings possess is flawless. It’s just that they are weak in refining using magical power. We are currently providing training in that area. Don’t worry!”
Among the inquiries that have been pouring into the church recently there was this question.
-Has the Ark been completely destroyed? If so can we assume that the minerals such as Mithril that went into the Ark have also disappeared?
The answer was ‘No’.
Even though Limen puts a lot of effort into directing for me she is not such a reckless goddess. Limen is a goddess of mercy.
He was not so ignorant of the human condition as to ignore the resources invested in the Ark.
Of course I neatly organized the materials used in the construction of the Ark and piled them up in the vacant lot. I returned all of those materials to the government.
If Limen hadn’t been so considerate the government would have been whining by now.
“This is a transfer of technology in exchange for some of the Mithril used in the Ark. Please take the utmost care of it. We must continue our good relationship in the future.”
“I’m doing my best! Last time we went to World Beer House and had a company dinner together and it was great. Next time I plan to treat them to a beer made with Holy Water.”
For your information Toby has been the most rapidly growing figure in popularity on our church’s YouTube channel recently.
This is because they were given the title of the first alien race to appear before mankind.
Originally he had planned to hide his existence as much as possible but one day Toby was found drunk on Jongno Youth Street and that’s how things turned out.
I thought people would dislike the dwarf race because it was an unfamiliar race but I heard that they even had a fan club.
Let’s see what the fan club name is… <Uncle Toby’s Iron Beard> right?
Adding a dwarf to a church full of lunatics won’t make much of a difference.
“Drink in moderation.”
“No problem. Thank you for your concern.”
I was worried that he would be lonely without his kind but Toby was adapting to Earth very successfully.
It’s fortunate for me.
So most of the urgent agenda items were sorted out and I stood up from my chair and said.
“Leo and Luna also have to take care of their condition because they have to spar tomorrow. Luna don’t go out drinking tonight. If you go out drinking and get into trouble… You know what? You’re just going to have a week-long doctrine class with Archbishop Lapart.”
“…yes.”
“Then let’s end this meeting…”
Just as we were about to end the meeting without a hitch Leo quietly raised his hand.
“Leo why?”
“Given the Chinese attitude I think we need to deploy additional security personnel for His Holiness’ family.”
When I see things like that I can tell that our Leo is really meticulous.
I looked at Leo with a smile.
“Are you that worried about your family?”
“Those who walk the path of evil are always unconcerned with the means and methods. Wouldn’t it be better to be careful?”
“Thank you for your kind advice.”
Thanks to Leo taking the initiative I had a really good excuse.
“Archbishop Laparte.”
“Yes Your Majesty.”

“Leo says so much so I guess I should stick with my family until the Chinese kids leave?”
It is written as security guard and read as resting at home.
How could I possibly refuse this when my family’s safety is at stake?
“Hmm okay.”
Archbishop Lapart nodded obediently.
It was a perfect excuse that even our nag could not deny.
“Then I will go home first to ensure the safety of my family.”
I got up from my seat in a good mood and sneakily approached Leo. Then I spoke in a very quiet voice.
“But you don’t have to worry so much Leo. You know who I put next to my family right?”
“Aiden…..”
“Except Aiden.”
“ah.”
Leo nodded obediently realizing the meaning behind my words.
“I see. I understand Your Majesty’s will.”
Of course I have no choice but to accept it.
The person I attached to Siyeon and Inwook was…
2.
-Kim Si-woo Kim Si-woo’s family Kim Si-woo’s acquaintances. Investigate everything related to him. Lin Tao. I don’t think you will disappoint me after Li Jie. If you can produce results that satisfy me I will support you. Prove to yourself why I brought you to this small country.
Lin Tao a spy from the Superhumans recalled what Wang Wei had said to him at dawn.
The only reason he who had no fighting ability to speak of joined this friendly group was to gather information.
His special ability to erase one’s presence was more suited to espionage than combat.
A camouflage ability that even the average S-class hunters cannot easily detect. Lin Tao’s specialty and only weapon was his stealth ability using extremely small amounts of magical power that was not easily detected by a magical power detector.
‘I will use this opportunity to gain Wang Wei’s trust.’
If he can get in line with Wang Wei one of China’s most powerful figures a golden future awaits him.
And Wang Wei was more than capable of giving Lin Tao such a future.
Lin Tao who was hiding around the building where Kim Si-woo’s family lived slowly looked around.
As expected from a place where the Irregulars’ families reside there were personnel who appeared to be Korean Awakeners stationed all over the place.
‘Korea’s detection capabilities are world-renowned. We need to be careful.’
In any case his goal was not to attack Kim Si-woo’s family. He simply wanted to record their movements and collect unusual information.
How to use that information was entirely up to Wang Wei.
‘I don’t feel good. That bitch Lee Ji is making ominous noises…’
Suddenly I remembered the story I had heard from Li Jie before leaving the accommodation at dawn.
-Lin Tao. I really value your abilities. Your death could be a great loss to our superhumans. So don’t even think about overdoing it. Your opponents are monsters. You should never try to go against them. Take note of what I say.
It was Li Jie who usually didn’t pay any attention to him. Lin Tao remembered that her eyes shook incessantly as she spoke.
A look in his eyes as if he was very frightened by something.
She had been feeling resentful ever since she failed the mission Wang Wei had given her last time.
‘You must be afraid that I will monopolize Wang Wei’s trust. It’s so poisonous.’
Considering Lee Jie’s usual personality he might have been afraid of being left behind on the path to success.
And yet she was a woman who remained.
At least Lin Tao thought so.
How long did Lin Tao wait like that?
‘It came out.’
A young girl walked out of the building. It was Kim Si-woo’s younger sister who had been included in the information he had learned the night before.
The girl was carrying a light pink bag on her back as if she was going to school.
It was the first result I got after waiting for 5 whole hours since morning.
As soon as the girl came out the Korean security forces stationed around her also started moving.
They still seemed unaware of their existence.
‘It’ll be easy to figure out the route.’
Things might turn out surprisingly easily.
Lin Tao nodded slightly and then started moving slowly.
No I was going to start.
Miyaaaaaaa-
‘…cat?’
A white kitten suddenly appeared in front of him.
Even if a cat had more sensitive senses than a human there was no way it could detect his hiding.
But it was too coincidental to be a coincidence.
Because the white cat was looking straight at him.
‘What the heck is this….’
Lin Tao surprised by the situation he had never experienced before wanted to step back. But then.
‘…uh?’
My body doesn’t move.
He tried to move his feet but they seemed glued to the ground and would not leave.
Miyaaaa.
The cat approached slowly and finally reached his leg and pressed down on it with its front paw.
Then something unbelievable happened before Lin Tao’s eyes.
The cat’s body swelled in an instant. Before he could even open his eyes the cat had transformed into a white tiger the size of a house.
Spiritual being.
This was the word that came to Lin Tao’s mind after seeing the white tiger.
Krrrrrr.
The white tiger looked down at Lin Tao. The terrifying atmosphere emanating from the white tiger suffocated Lin Tao.
“Please…save me…”
Lin Tao didn’t even dare to fight back. There was no way that someone like himself could defeat such a monster.
His vocal cords were paralyzed by fear and he could not even speak properly.
Lin Tao thought back to the advice Li Jie had given him earlier.
-The opponents are monsters.
Only now could he understand the fear that Li Jie must have felt.
But it’s already too late to regret.
Kwauuuuuu!
The white tiger opened its mouth wide and rushed at him and Lin Tao screamed.
“Kwaaaaah!”
The moment the white tiger’s large teeth were about to sink into my neck
Miyaaaaah-.
“Ugh.”
As the cat’s meow echoed the white tiger disappeared without a trace.
Lin Tao quickly ran his hand over his neck.
‘…hallucination?’
Miyaaaaah-.
Before he could even breathe a sigh of relief he met the cat’s eyes.
And then an unknown voice echoed in his head.
“Are you really just hallucinating?”
Lin Tao shook his head at those words.
My pants were soaking wet from peeing but that didn’t matter when it came to my life.
“There’s no next time. By the way I like to eat the legs first while leaving them alive. Do you know what I mean?”
Lin Tao could only nod desperately.
Our Pope please stop this
