Somebody Stop the Pope – 114

Episode 114
35. They’re not bad people.
1.
The last day of January when the heavy snow that fell the day before has not yet melted.
Despite the temperature reaching minus 12 degrees Celsius Dong-Hyeon Kwon a day laborer with two months of experience went out to the field today to earn money.
Today’s scene was a large C-class gate that appeared in a wide field in Munsan-eup Paju-si so Kwon Dong-hyeon was very worried.
‘I heard that it’s dangerous from Class C onwards…’
For grades C and above the company usually has its own porter team or hires professional porter companies to handle the job.
The reason was safety concerns. Dangerous variables often occurred starting from the C-class gate.
It was certainly a somewhat burdensome level of gate for Kwon Dong-hyun who was a non-awakened person. Nevertheless the reason Kwon Dong-hyun came here was because of the recommendation of his younger brother Mr. Yu whom he had met not long ago.
-Brother. Something came up unexpectedly so I can’t go somewhere. When I asked he said I could send a substitute. You can go instead. I’ll treat you later!
Even when I first arrived at the scene I didn’t understand why Mr. Yoo had asked me to treat him.
All the sites he had experienced so far had treated the day laborers poorly. On top of that raids on cold days like today were even more difficult.
However after arriving at the scene and meeting a person named ‘Team Leader Park Jeong-su’ my thoughts changed.
“Thank you to all the porters who participated in the first solo raid of the Limen Order despite the cold weather. Please put on this necklace first. It will keep you safe during today’s raid.”
Team Leader Park gave the porters necklaces with pure white jewels the size of their fingernails and surprisingly as soon as they put them on the cold went away.
That wasn’t all.
Even the fatigue that had accumulated in my body for a long time melted away like snow and my whole body began to feel energetic.
And it seemed like it was the same for not only himself but the other porters around him as well.
“I am also a day laborer like you. So I know better than anyone else the hardships you face. Being a porter may not be fun but I hope you will at least take home some good memories from today.”
Has there ever been a person in charge who treated you this kindly?
It was fortunate for the day laborer porter not to be treated as a slave because among the Awakened there were those who treated the non-Awakened like insects.
In fact Kwon Dong-hyun remembered being verbally abused by a hunter who was his son’s age in an E-class dungeon he had participated in two weeks ago.
He couldn’t help but be taken aback by the kindness that came to him while he was taking it for granted.
“You can just wait here comfortably until the gate is completely destroyed. I’ll be back shortly.”
The man named Team Leader Park bowed politely and stepped aside and only then did the porters begin to talk to each other.

Kwon Dong-hyun was embarrassed because he didn’t know the face but soon another porter standing next to him spoke to him.
“Did you come here because you won too?”
“Winning…? No. I just came to play as a substitute for a younger sibling I know…”
“Hey you’ll have to treat me to a big meal later! The odds here were 49 to 1 so you’re giving it to me? You’ve met a noble person.”
“…49 to 1? Are that many people gathered for a day laborer porter job?”
“It can’t be helped if it’s the site of the Limen Church. Judging from the fact that you don’t know much I guess you don’t have that much experience?”
“It’s just been two months.”
The man nodded as if he understood Kwon Dong-hyun’s answer.
“Then you might not know. How should I explain this? Oh! They’re going over there!”
A group of hunters were passing by where the man pointed with his finger.
The number appears to be over 50 people.
Hunters wearing pure white armor walked in front and behind them people wearing black clothes that looked like they would burst were silently following the lead.
“Hiccup.”
Kwon Dong-hyun who was tired of the momentum they were giving off started hiccuping without realizing it.
They were on a whole other level than the hunters he had seen so far. Their large physiques were one thing but their eyes as if they were going to devour their opponents at any moment were so scary that he thought he might see them in his dreams.
“Who the hell are those people?”
Kwon Dong-hyun asked the person next to him in a trembling voice.
Unlike Kwon Dong-hyun who was completely terrified the person next to him answered with a familiar expression.
“Who are you? Of course you are the new priests of the Limen Church.”
“…A priest? Not a thug…”
“Oh my! This guy. How can you say such rude things to people who follow the will of God!”
When we talk about clergy we usually think of Protestant pastors Catholic priests and Buddhist monks.
But those in front of my eyes were denying the word ‘priest’ with their whole body.
“I thought the same thing when I first saw them but I quickly changed my mind.”
“Change of mind what do you mean…?”
“I know it when I see it.”
Woohoo.
Suddenly a gate appeared in the sky and after a while green-skinned monster orcs appeared.
The sight of orcs their entire bodies covered in thick muscle pouring out of the gate all at once was threatening enough.
But Kwon Dong-hyun realized that the other porters except for himself were not afraid at all.
They were rather looking at the priests of the Limen sect with shining eyes as if they were a good sight.
“You’ll soon realize what I mean so just watch quietly.”
Kwon Dong-hyun looked ahead quietly at the words of the man next to him.
There the priests of the Limen sect who had just passed by were praying with their hands clasped together.
But that was only for a moment
“Waaaaaaaaaaaa!”
“Limen protects us!”

“Glory to Limen! Victory to us!”
After finishing their prayers in an instant they each took out their weapons and began charging at the orcs at incredible speed.
It was like a tsunami.
And the tsunami mercilessly swept away the orcs who had not yet properly formed their battle formations.
Kwajijijik-!
A scene of one-sided violence unfolds immediately after.
Some with a hammer some with a shield some with their bare fists.
Along with the screams of the orcs orcs’ heads began to burst everywhere.
As Kwon Dong-hyun was blankly watching the scene he heard the voice of the person next to him.
“I felt like my head would be shattered if I did something bad in front of them. So naturally I became careful about everything and regretted the mistakes I had made in the past… Even I who was just starting out in life felt repentant. If they weren’t priests who would be?”
“…I see.”
It was Kwon Dong-hyun who agreed with those words without even realizing it.
2.
“Are you satisfied Your Majesty?”
“It still seems like a long way to go but… I don’t think I’ll get hit anywhere at this point.”
I nodded slowly as I watched our cute chicks sweep away the orcs.
It was a battle that could be called a one-sided massacre.
Even though their opponents were mere orcs crawling out of a C-class gate considering that it had only been about two months since the first batch of trainees entered the school it was certainly an incredible growth rate.
“Now you can solve C-class gates without our help. How high have you gotten compared to other hunters?”
“Even if I can’t do it I’m at the top of C-class. I also train with hunters from the Goblin Guild and the Seolhwa Guild once a week and some of the trainees even beat B-class hunters.”
“Those two?”
Even in a battlefield where the odds were stacked against them there were two trainees who stood out.
They were a familiar man and woman compared to the other trainees.
Two of the five people I personally recruited in the early days when divine powers were first introduced.
Choi Siwon and Shin A-young.
The two of them as if to prove that they were apprentice knights were holding a sledgehammer in one hand and a shield in the other and were relentlessly destroying the orc formation.
“That’s right. He has the best training results and the best movements in actual combat. He also uses his divine powers smoothly and his balance as a paladin is very well maintained.”
“Because they are friends with definite potential.”
I nodded slowly as I listened to Luna.
As they were the first trainees to awaken divine powers they were the ones who started training faster than the other trainees.
It may have been natural that they would stand out.
“What about the other three of the five?”
“Afternoon class. Compared to the morning class the skill level is slightly lower but there isn’t that much of a difference. Would you like to see the afternoon class in person later?”
At those words I waved my hand lightly.
“I have other plans for the afternoon so I’ll pass. I don’t think I really need to see it.”
“I am glad that Your Majesty is satisfied.”
“The second batch of trainees will begin training in two weeks. This time we have selected 200 people. We have also selected those from the first batch who are suitable as teaching assistants.”
I heard from Director Kim that the number of players in the Holy Series is increasing more slowly than expected.
It is said that since the first appearance of the divine power one in every 20 magic users has awakened.
I heard that about 50000 people awaken each year so at most 2500 people from the divine lineage awaken.
If we try to divide that small pie among religions it will burst.
Still our church is in a better situation compared to other religions.
because
“I know that 100 people will come from Japan this time.”
Because we can also secure manpower from Japan.
Thanks to the great impact I had during the last Yamata no Orochi battle the number of believers in our sect in Japan has increased significantly.
It was to the point where we had to seriously consider whether we should build a second temple in Japan.
Originally it was common practice not to send one’s own Awakened to other countries but this was confirmed through the last Korea-Japan summit.
“Players from Korea and Japan can freely travel between the two countries at any time. The same goes for players from the Divine Series. The trainees who are coming this time will be working here for a year and then return to Japan.”
“Then those friends will become the core of the Japanese diocese in the future?”
“Right. We can’t keep them in Korea forever right?”
“Leo and I are fine but do you think Japanese trainees will get along well with Korean trainees? For one thing we don’t speak the same language.”
That’s right.
Language issues are also a serious factor in unity.
But I wasn’t too worried.
“That’s their business. If you come to Korea to get an education you should learn Korean. Isn’t that obvious? That’s why I introduced you to Korean teachers.”
“No matter how I look at it it looks like they’re going to fight.”
“That’s right. I told the Japanese kids not to even play rock-paper-scissors.”
“But you’re just going to do that?”
“Having a competitor right in front of you is a great motivator. If you use it well it’ll be fine.”
That’s what a rival is like.
We can expect a positive synergy effect as they continue to strive to overcome each other.
Of course when rivalry becomes extreme it can have negative effects… but that can be sufficiently controlled.
“If you’re going to fight you should use the whip of love.”
“Love spell?”
“If both of us try to squeeze each other out fairly wouldn’t a camaraderie that wasn’t there before sprout up?”
Luna was speechless for a moment after hearing what I said.
Then soon he began to applaud and exclaim in admiration.
“As expected of our Holiness. I still can’t even keep up with your footsteps. How can such a shallow… no such a crude idea come out of the Pope’s mouth?”
“Show me what is truly vulgar?”
“Hey mistake mistake. Sorry.”
It was around this time that Luna and I were watching the battle between our chicks and exchanging opinions.
Woohoo.
I felt the vibration of my smartphone that I had put in my pocket. I got a call and the caller was Director Kim.
“hello.”
– Mr. Siwoo I’m calling to confirm. There will be a welcoming ceremony for the friendship group this afternoon. The Japanese friendship group has already arrived in Korea and the Chinese friendship group also just boarded the plane.
“6pm at the city hall. Right?”
-Yes that’s correct.
“I won’t be late. Luna won’t be able to attend so I’ll take Leo with me.”
-Do whatever you want. I’ll see you later.
“See you later.”
I hung up the phone and smiled faintly.
Luna who saw that asks me a question in a subtle way.
“This is an expression of anticipation… Are you that excited?”
“of course.”
Awakened ones on the Chinese side Awakened ones on the Japanese side Awakened ones on our side.
How could I not look forward to a welcoming ceremony where everyone gathers together?
“Someone needs to stop our Majesty.”
“That’s why Leo is coming with us.”
“Phew. Leo stopped His Majesty? That was the funniest joke I’ve heard since the new year. I admit it.”
Whether Luna smiles or not one thing is certain.
“It’ll be fun for the first time in a while.”
I wish it were 6 o’clock soon.
Our Pope please stop this
