    Episode 413

Severe cold is hitting the resort.

Snow was falling on the streets and I was shivering from the bone-chilling cold.

Lethe who was lightly wrapping her arms around his shoulders and looking around opened her mouth.

    “Well it’s quiet.”

    “huh.”

Is it because of the cold? Considering the size of this city and its reputation as a resort it would be normal for it to be bustling with people but all the stores were closed and only a few people in tightly wrapped clothes were walking on the streets.

    ‘Something must have gone wrong.’

Simon who had been deep in thought with his chin raised suddenly raised his head.

    “Lete this way!”

    “?”

Simon began to run down the street through the driving cold.

“Ah why is the sword suddenly jumping!”

    Lethe followed suit grumbling.

After passing several buildings and exiting the winding and complicated alley an open view finally unfolded.

    “ah……!”

    The sea was frozen.

The entire sea as far as I could see was a sheet of frozen ice. Lethe’s expression hardened.

“The situation is much more serious than we were told.”

She took out something that looked like a booklet from her travel bag.

    “It was originally like this.”

People running around in swimsuits on dazzling beaches and sandy beaches. The snowy mountain visible above.

All of this was in perfect harmony but now the scene depicted in the booklet is nowhere to be found.

    Simon raised his head.

The appearance of a snow-covered mountain. I thought it was a magnificent and wonderful sight like a painting but now it feels a little different.

“Hey how are you? Is there any room for sailing next week?”

    Simon and Lethe’s heads turned.

A sailor sitting on the dock was saying something. And the sailor who seemed to be his colleague tapped the frozen ice with the back of his hand and shook his head.

“Next week is going to take a month.”

“It’s a pain in the ass. If we can’t handle this volume we’ll go bankrupt.”

“Laus. I’d like to ask you something for a moment.”

Lethe approached the two shaking her snow-white hair.

“It was so cold and the sea was freezing. Since when has it been like this?”

“Since when? Well that’s fine. The weather has been fluctuating recently but it’s been about 6 months since even the sea was frozen like this.”

The sailor answered and sighed deeply.

    “Has this ever happened before?”

“Kula’s port is a floating port. It means that it is a naturally blessed port where the sea surface does not freeze even in winter. Everything happening in the city now is the first time in Kula’s history.”

    “You’re right brother.”

A dark-skinned sailor climbed a ladder to the dock.

“All the barley in the village froze to death. The only passage the sea route was blocked and we were stuck in this city starving to death.”

This time Simon opened his mouth.

“Are there any other routes other than the sea route for food to come in?”

    “Once Bosch. Those rugged mountains.”

The sailor pointed with his hand.

All around the city are snow-covered mountains. Except for this city which was the only flat land there were mountains on all sides and the sea to the south.

“Even if you give them a thousand gold there is no merchant anywhere that will bring food across those mountains.”

    “cancer. cancer.”

The sailor next to him received the message.

“Is that the only problem? Monsters in the snowy mountains that only appear in the middle of winter are more active due to the harsh cold. Kula is hell now.”

As he was lamenting the story he glanced at Lete’s clothes and asked.

“Come to think of it this is my first time seeing this face. Is it a tourist?”

Lethe looked around without changing her complexion.

“What kind of tourist would there be in this situation? I’m just an adventurer.”

    “That’s right.”

    He waved his hand.

“If you have the skills to cross the mountain range to avoid monster attacks it would be a good idea to get out of Kula as soon as possible. It looks calm at first glance but it’s on the brink. You never know when it might suddenly turn into a lawless area due to a food shortage.”

    “Thank you for the advice.”

Simon said with a straight smile. The sailor nodded his head.

“I’m grateful to them for listening to me lamenting about the fate of strangers.”

    * * *

I looked around the city and gathered information but it was roughly similar to what I heard at the dock.

“As far as I know Kula is a town that makes a living from tourism and special products.”

Lethe who was walking with her hands in her pockets opened her mouth.

    “What’s the specialty?”

    “Holy tree leaves.”

Simon looked like he was hearing this for the first time and Lethe added in a relaxed voice.

“It is a plant used in major sacred events and worship. If you wash it cleanly and float it in water it purifies impurities. In particular the ingredients in the leaves turn the water white making it a symbol of the highest quality holy water. It is always used in places like cathedrals.”

    “It must be expensive.”

“Right. But if the weather was like this the Seongsu Leaf crop would have been ruined.”

The more I learned the more desperate Kula’s situation became.

At that time warm breath flowed from the corner of Simon’s mouth.

“It’s getting cold. Let’s wear something on top too.”

    “That would be good.”

The two simultaneously opened the subspace and took out their robes.

I wore the outfit prepared by Israfil but the perfect adventurer’s fashion was the ‘robe’. Even though I’m an adventurer it would be awkward if I didn’t wear this.

Simon takes out a white robe and puts it on.

    “hmm?”

Coincidentally Lethe was also wearing a white robe with the same design as Simon. A smile full of joy appeared on Simon’s lips.

“Uh the grove! This is the one I bought from Shinsung Federation last time right?”

    “!!”

Lethe looked back at Simon with a sour expression blushed brightly and hurriedly hid her robe behind her.

“What what what you bastard! It was just this robe that I picked out by chance out of the many robes!

    “okay?”

As Simon smiled slightly Lethe stuttered and shouted.

    “Oh turn your clothes over!”

    “huh?”

“Turn it to black man! I’m going to wear white!”

“what’s the matter? No matter how I wear my clothes it’s my heart.”

    “no! As it is…!”

    Right then.

Two women passing by saw the two and laughed.

“Hey look at those kids over there. It’s clearly a couple look.”

    “Aw~ I’m unlucky but I’m cute.”

It was a small whisper but Lethe understood the story like a ghost and even her earlobes turned red.

She rushed at Simon and tried to take off his clothes.

“Oh no why are you doing this all of a sudden?”

    “Change to black quickly!”

As Simon continued to resist Lethe pounded his chest with her forehead! It hit me. Simon screeched and took a step back.

“No if you’re worried about wearing the same clothes you can just wear a different one among the numerous robes!”

“I don’t like it! Don’t tell me what to do! A necromancer or something!”

    “He also gave instructions… Ugh!”

The two argued on the street for a while.

    “ha. ha.”

After a fierce struggle Lethe pushed Simon up to the wall and quickly took off his robe.

The fight was so intense that Simon was sitting disheveled with his legs apart and Lethe was kneeling between them holding Simon’s stolen robe tightly in her hands.

The two people breathing heavily were close together.

“If you do anything strange outside in this cold you will freeze to death!”

    Fuhahaha!

Men drunk on rum passed by chuckling.

Lethe whose neck was stained bright red took a step back.

“Oh! Really childish! What are you doing if you just change your clothes?”

Simon tidied up his tangled hair.

“You were surprised because I rushed at you so recklessly. And what would a saint who forcibly took off a person’s clothes on the street say?”

“Shut up! Don’t even bring up the saint’s name!”

Lethe turned Simon’s robe inside out turning it black then threw it at his chest as if pushing him.

“Hurry up and get dressed quickly. There is no time for jokes.”

Then he suddenly got up from his seat and walked away at a brisk pace.

Simon also had no choice but to wear a black inside-out robe.

Since I came to the Holy Federation and had to pretend to be a priest I was planning on walking around in white robes.

“Oh you’re not going to investigate? Stop loafing around and follow me quickly.”

Still seeing Lethe glancing in Simon’s direction as if she felt sorry Simon smiled quietly and followed her.

    * * *

-It’s a really big problem because there’s nothing to eat in the village.

-I saw monsters moving in groups from the mountain range last night! It seems like an ominous sign.

The two people organized the information they obtained through the investigation into a notebook.

So I kept wandering around the roadside to gather information.

    Cough!

An elderly-looking woman was seen sitting on a mat wrapped in a mat. A crystal ball was placed in front of the mat.

It seems to be a fortune teller that caters to tourists but since there are no tourists there will be no profit.

Seeing them shivering in the cold with haggard faces waiting for customers made me feel a bit pitiful.

    “Wait here for a moment.”

When Lethe saw the old woman she quickly headed to a nearby store that was open.

She said something there paid something got bread and beef jerky and brought it back.

    “Sorry but-”

Lethe knelt down on the old woman’s mat and smiled.

“We don’t have money so can you accept food?”

As Lethe tore open the bag and laid out the bread and beef jerky tears welled up in the old woman’s eyes.

“thank you! Thank you so much!”

Then I must have been very hungry and started eating food hurriedly.

    “You eat it too.”

Lethe said chewing some beef jerky.

It was a slightly late lunch.

Simon sitting next to me and holding a piece of bread spoke in a low voice.

“I saw it again. As expected she also has the appearance of a saint…”

    puck!

Immediately Lethe’s fist hit Simon’s forearm. It was so painful that it must have been filled with sincere strength.

Simon had to hold on to his arms and let out a silent cry.

After the meal the old woman who looked much better lifted the crystal ball to go to work.

“Hehehehe! Then what should I look for…”

“no. There’s something I’d like to ask rather than a dot.”

Lethe asked about the abnormal weather and extreme cold occurring in Kula.

I was able to hear a slightly new answer that was different from others.

“All of this is because of Eskail’s curse.”

Simon and Lethe’s eyes lit up at the word Escail. Escail was the village they would soon visit as tutors.

The old woman’s wrinkled fingers pointed toward the middle of the snowy mountain.

“Eskail’s grudge against the people of Kula has become a curse and is driving Kula into a cold hell.”

    “Resentment?”

“The Eskail people originally lived in Kula. It’s been more than a few decades.”

However the story after this was just gossip and was not of much help.

“Well then since I received the money for the fortune I guess I should read the fortune.”

The old woman looked back and forth between Simon and Lethe’s faces and smiled slightly. She had a knack for dealing with tourists as it was her job.

    “Then the couple points……”

“If you really want to look at it please do so separately.”

    Lethe said clearly.
