Chapter 373
Whaaaaaap!
A blinding light erupted from Herseva the staff embedded in the ground replacing the inky blackness of the ground with a shimmering gold.
“That’s crazy…!”
Elissa the S.A.7 broke into a cold sweat as she watched on from the audience.
“That’s not dark magic! It’s a supernatural ability!”
“Mwahahahaha!”
Rick sitting next to her let out a sinister laugh. Elissa quickly turned her head.
“Hey merchant! What’s going on?”
“As you can see Simon can now do things like that~”
She wrinkled her nose.
“Stop flaunting about it and answer me! Did Simon always have a supernatural ability? Or has he been hiding his power and is now going all out because his opponent is Chatelle?”
“Simon…”
The answer came from beyond Rick. Camibarez placing a hand on her chest spoke with a sense of reverence and seriousness.
“Simon has never not given his best.”
As if agreeing Benya nodded from beside her.
Elissa looked slightly embarrassed.
“Ah I got it. What are you getting all serious about?”
“Like she said…”
Rick shrugged.
“That’s a new power Simon has acquired.”
“…Supernatural abilities are innate. What kind of bullshit are you spouting now?”
“Hehehe! If you don’t know just shut up and watch! It seems he has no intention of hiding his power if he’s using it now.”
Meanwhile inside the arena…
“a…”
Chatelle was flustered.

Even though his power of ‘Domain Reversal’ was applied to the entire arena he couldn’t move the floor that was turned golden by that staff’s power.
A power opposing Domain Reversal. Even now the golden ground was pushing back Chatelle’s domain steadily expanding its influence.
And standing tall on that golden ground was a single boy.
Simon Polentia.
What wrapped around his dueling suit looked like curtains or bandages functioning as clothes. It wasn’t Black Robe from combat dark magic nor was it a Jet-Black Film.
Supernatural ability.
Simon Polentia was using a supernatural ability.
“You seem surprised.”
Simon smiled faintly as he raised both hands.
“The counterattack starts now.”
Rrrrrrrumble!
The entire arena shook with every twitch of his fingers and something rose from the golden ground.
“!”
They were roofs of buildings. And not just one or two buildings either.
A massive ‘city’ began to emerge as if surfacing from where it was once buried underneath.
Pitter-patter pitter-patter!
The countless footsteps echoing on the golden floor sounded like falling rain.
From the doors of the newly formed buildings monsters wrapped in bandages wobbled out.
Screams of fear and shock erupted from all directions of the audience.
“They’re mummies!”
“Real mummies!”
Clamor clamor clamor!
The appearance of the mythical undead only mentioned in legends threw the entire audience into a massive shock.
Even from Chatelle’s perspective he could no longer stand idle. He controlled his Domain Reversal at a point untouched by Herseva’s Touch lifting the ground and launching it like a projectile.
Seeing this Simon quickly hid behind a building.
Slam!
Crash!
The ground and golden structures collided creating a deafening boom!
“Go!”
At Simon’s command the mummies began to advance all at once.
They looked like zombies wrapped in bandages but they were bigger faster and moved more naturally than zombies.
[Gyaaa! Gyagyagyaa!]
Seeing the mummies swarm towards him Chatelle focused more intently on using dark magic leaving no room for emotion on his face.
{Domain Reversal – Manipulate}
He raised a wall of earth to block the mummies’ approach then lifted all the debris soil and gravel left in the arena.
Crack! Crunch!
Reassembling the debris in the air after a few seconds of processing they formed into sharp spikes.

Soon at Chatelle’s signal lowering his palm…
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
An expansive bombardment rained down on the entire city.
“Woah…!”
Stunned exclamations burst out from the audience.
Simon was building the city and Chantelle was demolishing it.
Their fight had long surpassed the realm of a typical Duel Evaluation.
Rrrrrumble…
Dust soon blanketed the entire city.
“…”
Having launched a bombardment with a single gesture Chatelle calmly looked at the screen. Unfortunately looking at the barrier gauges Simon hadn’t been hit by the attack.
Yank!
“Hm?”
Chatelle felt something pulling him back and when he turned around he saw a mummy had snuck up behind him and got its bandages wrapped across his left arm.
Swoosh! Swirl!
The same happened with other mummies. Bandages flew in like whips wrapping around Chatelle’s arms head and legs.
Muscles bulged as Chatelle tried to break free but the cloth was stronger than he expected.
Step. Step.
The mummies were now easily climbing the tall wall that Chatelle had created using their bandages like ropes. Despite being undead the knowledge shown in how they used their bandages was quite impressive.
This was getting dangerous.
“Pant!”
Chatelle’s eyes sharpened.
{Domain Reversal – Control}
Spear rose from the ground impaling the mummies pulling the bandages wrapped around him and he collapsed the wall burying more mummies under the debris.
Having cleared the nearby area Chatelle looked around to check his surroundings.
“…”
He had been surrounded.
Every bit of ground apart from a small circle around where Chatelle stood was glowing gold.
It was like he and Simon were kings fighting for territory.
Soon buildings would rise from around him too and even more mummies would emerge.
“It’s no use Chatelle.”
Simon’s voice bounced across perfectly flat gold walls.
“It’s impossible to escape this city.”
Wooooooaaaaaah!!
The audience was already completely immersed.
The entire arena was flashing gold. Everyone watched Simon’s brilliant new skill with their mouths agape. Even the second- and third-year seniors were cheering and clapping.
“This is crazy. Can a first-year really control dozens of undead?”
“Dozens? That’s at least forty.”
“Is he a Commander or something?”
“It doesn’t seem like he’s using the regular mental link at least.”
The students were busy enjoying and studying the new technique.
“…”
In the end Chatelle decided to change plans. He first lifted the floor fragments that were still under his control shaping them into rounded circular blades.
As soon as fifteen blades were completed he leaped toward the city.
Slaaam!
Using two mummies on the roads as stepping stones to jump even further Chatelle landed in the city center where Simon stood.
The buildings had grown significantly taller nearly reaching up to Chatelle’s height of over three meters.
[Gyagyagyaa!]
[Gyagh! Gyagyagya!]
But being in the center of enemy territory mummies swarmed.
So Chatelle swung his arm.
Whirrrrr!
The circular blades responded orbiting around him like a protective barrier that cut to ribbons anything that dared get close.
Then having secured a safe zone within his blades Chatelle began pushing them further outward.
Every time the blades passed mummies were sliced in half. Enemies coming down from the roofs threw bandages at Chatelle but the blades easily cut through them.
Despite seeing this undead for the first time Chatelle had already figured out an effective strategy.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Now the game of hide-and-seek began.
Chatelle roamed the city searching for Simon and he finally saw the man fleeing down a narrow alley.
Just when Chatelle was also picking up speed to pursue him…
“!”
Sensing movement he turned around to see a bandage-bound zombie flying at him.
[Gyagyah!]
A mummy behind him had tied up a zombie with its bandages and thrown it.
At the same time Simon clenched his right hand into a fist.
{Corpse Explosion}
Boooooooom!
The zombie glowed blue as it began to swell up before violently exploding. Even the mighty Chatelle staggered and fell to a knee.
[Simon Polentia: 98%]
[Chatelle Maerre: 87%]
“I did it! Chatelle finally took damage!”
No matter how well he was defended with the jet-black film he couldn’t completely block the power of a Corpse Explosion.
Simon immediately started up his counterattack now knowing a way to breach Chatelle’s defense. Mummies and zombies teamed up all over the city.
The mummies tied up zombies with their bandages and used their knowledge of the city to fling the zombies however they could.
What resulted from that was a wave of attacks from all sorts of places and directions. Some mummies spun zombies around spires to build up momentum while others dropped them in from windows and ceilings. Some even used each other as ramps to roll their zombies in.
And whenever the zombies got even remotely close to Chatelle…
{Corpse Explosion}
Simon blew them up.
Booooooom!
Baaaang!
Chatelle was again on the defensive. No matter how effective his circular blades were blocking all these attacks while trying to find Simon was difficult.
“His undead control is like art!”
The spectators watching the duel were extremely excited.
“Isn’t he actually going to beat Chatelle like this?”
“Whatever happens this is one of the best Duel Evaluation matches ever.”
Now the cheers for Simon were overwhelming those for Chatelle. It was a dazzling and spectacular duel unlike anything ever seen.
“You seem really immersed huh president?”
Said the vice-president of Kizen who was seated in the VIP section of the arena with the rest of the professors.
In front of the vice-president Fantasaus—who was sitting across three seats—stood up and clenched his fist with the joy of a child.
“Mm! Of course!”
Fantasus grinned.
“This is the Duel Evaluation of the boy I hope will succeed me someday!”
Hearing this the vice-president chuckled.
“Trying to make him take that difficult position… You’re rather cruel.”
“Difficult position? Bah! It’s a dream!”
Boooooooom!
Meanwhile Chatelle threw himself into an alleyway avoiding yet another Corpse Explosion. He was now more focused on dodging Simon’s attacks than finding him.
On top of that the number of mummies didn’t decrease. In fact they seemed to only be increasing in numbers.
Shk.
Finally back literally against the wall Chatelle lifted his right foot.
The Domain Reversal magic circle had been stuck to the sole of his shoe the whole time.
‘So it was there.’
Simon was secretly watching that scene from behind a wall.
‘No wonder only the spot his foot touched deactivated Herseva’s touch. Herseva let’s go for another Corpse Explosion.’
[Okay~ Make sure you time the explosion right!]
At that moment Chatelle pulled out the shrunken Domain Reversal magic circle from the sole of his shoe while another magic circle became visible on his back.
Simon was astonished at the sight.
‘Are you saying he was preparing another dark spell behind him even while fighting?’
Then Chatelle brought the two magic circles together.
Crackle! Crackle!
A combination circle.
It was a highly advanced form of dark magic usually taught in the third year.
“Simon Polentia.”
Whirrr!
Chatelle stood tall his voice so powerful it was like he was using a microphone.
Simon jolted in surprise but he listened closely.
“You said something about me having a bad matchup against you?”
Craaaaaackle!
The two magic circles combined into one.
“Right back at you.”
{Chatelle Original – Domain Seizure}
Swoooooooooosh!
The moment the magic circle activated the entire golden city that was shining with light turned to an inky black. It was like a blackout had effected the entire city.
[Kyaaah! What is this?]
As control over the ground was seized all the buildings and mummies vanished like the wind. The building Simon had been leaning against melted away.
‘H-Herseva? What happened?’
[Ughh! I-I can’t move! My powers aren’t working!]
Before they knew it the dazzling golden city was just a memory and only the black arena floor taken over by Domain Seizure remained.
Chatelle turned his head and glared at Simon on the empty plains.
“I. Found. You.”
‘…Urk!’
Simon quickly pulled Herseva from the ground and retrieved her but Chatelle slowly pointed his finger to the sky.
“?”
When Simon’s gaze also briefly followed the finger to the sky…
Rrrrrrrrumble!
The entire arena floor began to shake.
“Kyaaah!”
“What’s going on?!”
Shouts erupted from all directions. Simon also looked around in confusion.
The students in the first-floor seats of the audience seemed to be going down. No it wasn’t them who were going down. Simon was rising into the sky alongside the entire floor.
Crash!
Soon they burst through the ceiling and bright sunlight poured down on Simon. The cool outside breeze fluttered his hair.
The arena was floating in the air.
‘…Th-This is no joke.’
Simon wiped off the cold sweat forming on his brow.
Lifting the entire arena with his jet-black earth magic Chatelle’s power was beyond imagination.
“Now you… can’t… escape.”
A glint of madness flickered in Chatelle’s eyes.
