    Chapter 371

    “O-Ohhh!”

The host Darell was smiling in surprise.

“Things are getting exciting already! Very exciting! It’s a big match: Special Admission No.1 versus No.3!”

    “…”

Simon looked at Chatelle slightly bewildered.

A giant nearly twice his height was pointing at Simon with a thick finger. The shadow alone felt so heavy it could crush him.

    ‘To think Chatelle selected me…’

A descendant of ancient giants and the student with the highest defense in Kizen.

Chatelle was a formidable opponent for Simon as well. In the regular Duel Evaluation he always hoped to avoid Serene Chatelle and Lorain considering them all to be almost unbeatable.

    Whisper whisper whisper!

As the audience grew into a flurry of hushed voices sudden silence returned when a loud bang filled the room.

Hector his face red with fury had slammed his fist on the table he was sat at. Veins pressed against the skin at his neck and all over his body.

    [Chatelle!!!]

Some students screamed and covered their ears.

    It was Dragon Fear.

    “H-Hector!”

    “Hey hey calm down!”

Frightened students from his faction tried to hold him back but Hector walked on with them hanging off his body.

    “He’s lost it again!”

“Ah everyone what are you doing! Cast Exhaust or something!”

Screamed a student clutching Hector’s leg.

When the students hesitating in the back were really about to prepare curses…

    “My my.”

Hector abruptly stopped. And not of his own will.

“I understand you’re upset about losing your chosen opponent but this is a day for celebration. Let’s stop right there Junior.”

Puppet dolls had surrounded Hector aiming their blades at him as he stood paralyzed.

And controlling them was the host Darell.

He had appeared in front of Hector with the speed of teleportation.

‘Wh-When did he get all the way over here?’

The faction members hesitated and stepped back.

However Darrel ignored them as he chided

“Hehehe an area-of-effect curse at an official event? My guy I must’ve been taken that lightly huh?”

Darell sneaked a glance back at Jane and saw she was rising from her seat on the stage.

“Yes yes! It’s okay Professor! I’ve got it all under control! Hahaha!”

Darell forced a bright smile waved his hand and patted Hector’s shoulder.

    “Let’s stop now alright?”

    Creak…

Before Darell even finished speaking the strings attached to Hector began to groan with effort.

Hector was trying to move again.

“Ah honestly I said let’s stop. Hey. Hey! Ah fuck.”

Already Darell’s welcoming smile had changed into a deep scowl.

    “Do I not look like a third-year to you…?”

With a flick of Darell’s wrist the puppets’ mouths clacked open and they began to grow in size as parts stained by jet-black became disfigured the puppets looking far more monster than humanoid.

Just as they were about to finish transforming…

    Pshk! Pshk! Pshk! Pshk!

Several feathers stabbed Hector’s back. Hector who was ablaze with fury finally calmed and stopped struggling.

    “Oh my~”

Everyone’s eyes turned to the person who had just involved themselves. A girl in a white dress arrogantly crossing her legs held a wine glass between two fingers.

The successor of the Ivory Tower Serene Aindark.

“How dare he act like that in front of a third-year senior. He must’ve lost his mind with rage.”

She tilted her wine glass and gave Darell a sly wink.

“You’re not angry are you Senior?”

Darell’s face relaxed at her flirtatious tone a slight pink appearing on his cheeks. Then he cleared his throat.

“Of course of course! I’m a generous person after all.”

“Hehe then you’ll let this one slide right?”

“If the successor of the Ivory Tower says so I have no choice. Just this once alright?”‘

Seemingly pleased with Serene’s respect toward her senior Darrel returned to the stage.

As Serene smiled and set down her wine glass a student at the same table whispered to her

    “…Wh-What’s gotten into you?”

“I thought it wouldn’t hurt to let him finally owe me one.”

She smiled looking at her lips reflected in the wine glass.

“A man with a burning desire to battle against Simon… Looks like I’ll be able to use him someday.”

At that moment Jane’s voice was heard from the speakers.

[Hector Moore leave the great hall.]

    Her voice was extremely cold.

[Using curses outside of class is strictly prohibited. Your turn will be postponed to be at the end of the first-year students.]

Hector gritted his teeth but nodded to Jane before trudging toward the exit.

“I knew he’d cause trouble someday.”

Rick sitting in his chair laughed as if relieved.

“He really needs to control his temper.”

    “Hey Commoner.”

Meilyn immediately gave Rick the eye putting a finger to her lips.

“Can’t you read the room? Be quiet.”

“Yes ma’am~ I’ll completely keep my mouth shut.”

At this point Simon returned to where the rest of Group 7 was sitting. When he arrived Camibarez and Meilyn quickly leaned in.

    “S-Simon! Are you alright?”

“Yeah I’m fine. What about Hector?”

“As you heard he was sent off.”

    Answered Rick furrowing his brow.

“But it’s so… strange. Why did Chatelle choose you? He’s the type to care about every grade so I thought he’d pick the weakest student in the upper squad to maintain a 100% win rate.”

Simon shook his head his eyes focussed with thought.

    “I don’t know either.”

    “Simon.”

Meilyn looked him in the eye and stated

    “Withdraw.”

    Simon blinked.

    “W-Withdraw?”

“Chatelle Maerre… That guy isn’t normal. In the Duel Evaluations every student he faced was beaten until they were a bloody mess even in their protection suits. Some had to rest for a few weeks due to injuries and some are still suffering from permanent damage.”

    “Oh…”

Hearing that Camibarez covered her mouth in shock.

    Meilyn continued

“You know the most important hurdle the second-year advancement exam is coming up right? The risk is too great if you get injured in a small event like the Duel Evaluation. Injuries are absolutely absolutely unacceptable!

    “…”

    She was right.

There wasn’t much time left in the first year. At most there would be one or two more Duel Evaluations.

Even with two consecutive losses he’d just be in the lower squad. He wouldn’t be expelled without ending up in the lowest squad.

Logically avoiding Chatelle and focusing on the advancement exam was the rational choice.

    But of course…

    “I’m confident.”

That was assuming Simon couldn’t go against Chatelle.

In the past he would’ve thought it impossible but with Herseva in his hands defeat didn’t even cross Simon’s mind.

“I’ll try fighting and if I really think I can’t win then I’ll give up.”

    “Honestly…”

Sighed Meilyn with a weak laugh. He really was a handful.

    The event resumed.

Many interesting matches were declared besides Simon and Chatelle’s. For example

    “Serene Aindark! Fight me!”

Meilyn who had stepped up the stage pointed at Serene.

Simon Rick and Camibarez all gasped and even Serene who had been doing other things the whole event smiled broadly.

“Hmm~ Sometimes our Meilyn does cute stuff like this y’know.”

The host Darell also smiled with satisfaction.

“What an internal battle between Ivory Tower members? This is also a big match! As expected firsties do know how to play!”

Having confidently pointed at Serene Meilyn returned to the table.

    Simon smiled wryly and said

“You urged me to withdraw against Chatelle and yet you picked Serene.”

Meilyn fixing her dress as she sat down brushed her disheveled hair behind her ear.

“That’s that and this is this. I also have fights I can’t back down from.”

    “…Meilyn.”

Camibarez put a hand on Meilyn’s shoulder in concern. Rick also scratched his head seemingly feeling the same way.

“The three people you’re supposed to avoid no matter what Serene Chatelle and Lorain. And yet two of them are against my group members. The situation is fierce. So fierce…”

Saying that Rick had been selected by the werewolf girl he fought in the siege theme. Rick laughed and casually said “She must’ve been quite frustrated about that.”

Camibarez was also selected by a hemomancy student from another class.

With that all the events for the day were done. The students left the great hall and headed to their dormitories.

“Rick I’ll be a bit late today.”

Said Simon pulling Herseva out of the subspace.

“I’m counting on you if the dorm manager asks.”

“Yeah yeah. Just don’t overdo it again.”

Knowing it was no use stopping him Rick just sent him off with as little hassle as possible.

Simon spoke to Herseva in his hand while he ran.

“We’ll be practicing all night today. Will you be alright?”

[You seem all fired up kid. What’s up?]

    Simon smiled.

“I think I’m going to fight someone stronger than me tomorrow.”

    [Oh my! That’s a problem.]

A golden wind swirled from the staff transforming into a woman with long hair who sat atop the staff like a witch.

[How are you going to win?]

    “There’s only one way.”

Said Simon a light smile contrasting his deathly focussed eyes.

“I’ll complete that third power by tonight.”

    * * *

    The next morning.

    Indoor Arena 1.

Three Duel Evaluations at a time were held simultaneously in three arenas but Indoor Arena 1 was packed with more spectators than any other.

Not only first-years but even second- and third-years students skipped classes to see the big match between S.A.1 and 3.

“Yeeaah! Go Simon! Show that giant who’s the bigger man!”

Rick in the front-row seats was shouting while waving a placard he had crafted last night.

The placard had ‘Talaria’—the name of his business—written in the middle with ‘Go Simon’ in smaller letters below.

It was obvious that advertising was the main purpose rather than cheering.

Camibarez sitting next to him held a slightly smaller placard and shyly mumbled

    “D-D-Do your best Simon!”

“Hey now! Do you think Simon in the waiting room can hear that? Louder!”

Her face was bright red but she closed her eyes tightly and shouted

    “G-Go Simon!! You can win!!!”

    Rick gave her a thumbs-up.

Behind her many students’ hearts melted from the adorable display of utter pureness.

    “Hello can I sit here?”

At that moment a girl with cream hair approached.

    Rick’s eyes widened.

    “Senior Benya Vanilla!”

Rick and Camibarez stood up quickly and bowed.

“Ahaha! There’s no need to be so formal.”

She said before sitting in the empty seat next to Camibarez. Rick quickly handed her his business card.

“My name is Rick Hayward Senior!”

“You’re still a student yet you have a business card already? Pretty impressive.”

“I’m not as good as you Senior but I run a few small businesses myself!”

    “Oh is that so?”

She quickly scanned Rick’s business card.

“Talaria? A delivery business huh? Nice idea.”

    “Thank you!”

While Rick was eagerly promoting his business Camibarez placed her hands neatly on her lap and kept on glancing at Benya.

    Noticing this Benya smiled.

“Do you have something to say to me?”

    “…Ah! Um…!”

Camibarez looked up at Benya trembling.

    “Uhm… about Simon…”

    “Hmm? Oh my comrade?”

    ‘My comrade?!’

Camibarez was shocked. She already had a nickname for him!

    ‘…Simon.’

Camibarez had never seen a person as perfect as Benya before.

She was beautiful incredibly capable a member of the student council and the successor to the huge corporation Vanilla.

She even shared Simon’s interest in summoning magic had the same major and thus had a perfect foundation to support him.

    Camibarez envied Benya.

    “?”

Benya blinked smiling warmly. She was waiting patiently as her junior seemed to have something to say.

    “Th-Thank you for helping…!”

    Camibarez suddenly stood up.

    “…Simon create Herseva!”

She then bowed deeply in gratitude.

    “…”

Benya stared at the top of Camibarez’ head a look of slight surprised on her face.

Rick who had been looking for another excuse to talk even more about his business was also confused by the sudden situation.

    “Mhmm~”

Finally a deep smile spread across Benya’s face.

    “Please lift your head.”

    Camibarez quickly obeyed.

Her face was bright red and she was breathing heavily. Her hands neatly placed on her skirt were fidgeting nervously.

Benya then stood up and bent down to meet Camibarez’ eyes. Without warning she gently embraced Cami’s head and whispered softly enough for only her to hear.

“Are you in the process of conquering Simon?”

Camibarez’s face turned an even deeper shade of red at those words.

    “C-C-C-C-C-Conquering him?! What do you…?!!”

Benya clenched her fists and smiled up to her eyes.

“I’ll cheer for you alright? Vampire comrade.”

    “…Ah.”

While Camibarez was still standing there stunned the referee’s call was heard.

“Student Simon Polentia from Class A! Student Chatelle Maerre from Class I! Please come to the arena immediately!”

Hearing that call Simon and Chatelle who had been in the waiting room came out to the center of the arena.

    Rick clapped his hands.

    “It’s finally starting!”
