Chapter 361
Simon heard about the news that the Magnus Legion was preparing a horrible plan when he arrived at Pentamonium.
“Wanna grab some wine?”
“I’m fine I’m on a mission right now.”
And it was yesterday on the rooftop of the accommodation under the full moon when Kajann called him out.
“I have something to report regarding the mission.”
What Kajann told him was somewhat shocking.
It was related to the ‘Roke-Island-invasion incident’ from Magnus that happened a few months ago.
Even though it was just a clone of Magnus even that entering Roke Island was a big issue. After all such an infiltration wouldn’t be possible without a traitor on the inside.
Nefthis formed a dedicated investigation team and in the process searched the Crow member ‘Evangelos’ who was on duty at the time of the incident. There they found evidence that he was colluding with Magnus.
However Nefthis didn’t arrest him immediately. Instead she placed a curse on him so he wouldn’t notice and waited until they had solid evidence.
The curse was such that a signal would be sent to the HQ whenever Evangelos said ‘Magnus’.
And so time passed and it was discovered that Evangelos had said ‘Magnus’ several times after being dispatched to Pentamonium.
Immediately the two Crows closest to Nefthis came over and arrested him. They placed a mental curse to extract information but his brain melted during the process. He had placed a suicide curse on himself that activated with specific keywords.
“Because Evangelos died too early the Crows only found out two things.”
Kajann raised two fingers.
“First an Ancient Undead of the Magnus Legion is here in Pentamonium. And second…”
The second finger pointed at Simon.
“They have some kind of plan tomorrow to capture you.”
Evangelos died after already setting everything in motion. Also since they didn’t know the details of the plan they couldn’t prevent it in advance.
Knowing this the Crows informed Pentamonium of all the information they had gathered so far. However Pentamonium decided not to be shaken by such a petty kidnapping attempt and declared their intention to proceed with the conference instead tripling the security.
“Their target is you Simon. The Crows have recommended that you return to Roke Island. Pack your stuff right now and—’
“No.”
Simon shook his head and met Kajann’s eyes.
“This is both a crisis and an opportunity. I will be the bait.”
Whether Simon was here or not the Magnus Legion’s plan in Pentamonium was going to be conducted.

Also the Ancient Undead who was going to execute the plan still didn’t know that their collaborator was dead.
Coming to both of those conclusions Simon made a bold decision.
“Using yourself as bait to lure out the Ancient Undead is a good plan but it’s too dangerous.”
“Dangerous?”
Simon grabbed the hem of Kajaan’s school uniform.
“Has there ever been a place where I was safe? Whether on Roke Island or Pentamonium Magnus has always put me in danger! If I can’t escape his threat anywhere then I’d rather…”
Simon’s eyes shone with determination.
“I’d rather strike back.”
In the end Kajann relayed Simon’s proposal to the Crows and they agreed to it.
“Kajann let me confirm one more time. You’re certain the Ancient Undead doesn’t know about Evangelos’ death right?”
“Yes I’m positive. The autopsy results showed no signs of other curses that would alert Magnus.”
“Good. Then leave the details to me and my Legion.”
Simon called out Elizabeth who was waiting in his subspace and had her transform into Evangelos.
Then acting as if Evangelos was still alive they waited for the attackers to approach.
The next day the zombie butler’s plan began.
What happened far exceeded everyone’s expectations. Perhaps even Evangelos didn’t know the full extent of it.
The scheme went far beyond a simple kidnapping attempt. They even breached Pentamonium’s barrier and brought zombies into the city.
However due to the forewarning by the Crows Pentamonium responded quickly to minimize damage. Yet the zombie butler’s strategy was meticulous.
He had multiple plans depending on Simon’s movements. And at the center of it was ‘Sasha’.
Magnus knew that an alarm would sound out after the walls were breached and that Pentamonium would automatically deploy barriers on all their glass towers.
Using that to his advantage he planned to send zombies into the glass tower where Sasha was. He was especially focussed on causing chaos on the first floor luring Simon in to break the barrier and come try to save Sasha.
Even if the Magnus Legion didn’t know this Simon had already broken the Saintess barrier in the neutral area. So the zombie butler was correct in assuming that Simon would be the only one in all of Pentamonium who would be able to break the barrier himself.
And so trapped in by the barrier Simon and the zombie butler met. Then Evangelos kidnapped Sasha. Everything seemed to be going according to his carefully written script. However…
[From the beginning I…]
Half of Evangelos’ face crumbled down.
Underneath was the face of a woman.
[…was never on your side though?]
Evangelos whom he firmly believed to be an ally was actually Elizabeth in disguise. She hadn’t kidnapped Sasha she had protected her.
Nefthis’ web of information and Simon’s ingenuity ended up managing to turn the tables on the zombie butler.
Simon then tore one of the soul-binding magic circles of the captured Zombie butler opening a communication channel with Magnus: the zombie’s master.
“Let’s do a hostage exchange. If you want to save this bastard… Bring me Akemus.”
With this move Simon had brought Magnus—the Commander of the Fifth Legion—to the negotiation table.
Simon intended to take this opportunity to reclaim his father’s undead.
[Kuuugh!]
The zombie butler caught in Elizabeth’s spider web twisted and turned in fury.
[Please ignore them Commander! If they intend to use me for an object in negotiation know that they will never be able to destroy me!]
Then he turned his head.

[Pay me not heed! Kill them all!]
[Guooooooh!]
[Gaaaaaaah!]
Nearly two dozen white zombies began to charge in.
Serene Kajann Prince and Elizabeth gathered around Simon taking up fighting stances.
[H-Heh! There sure are a lot of them!]
Prince stepped out in front with his fists curled up into tight balls.
[Of course I’m a hero so I’m not scared!]
“Don’t worry.”
Reassured Kajann completely relaxed.
“Because I’ve called in the best reinforcement.”
As soon as the words left his mouth…
Swaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
A waterfall of murky seawater poured down from the ceiling.
The blackened water rushed in with enough force to flood the entire building and it swept away the white-zombie horde in an instant. Like a black hole swallowing even light the white zombies disappeared without a trace.
“A pure boy’s dream is more precious than the world!”
Now down on the ground with them a huge man was raising his right arm from within the black sea.
“Anyone who tries to hinder that dream will never be forgiven! Mhm!”
A big smile forming on his face Simon shouted
“President Fantasus!”
Fantasus the student-council president of Kizen snapped his fingers. At his command the water gathered in the center before exploding with a bang! The white zombies that had been swallowed up were now sent flying in all directions.
Crash!
Booooom!
The destructive power alone left Simon momentarily awe-struck. Every single zombie in the swarm was sent flying against the glass walls before sliding back down to the ground their limbs twisted back into themselves and skulls turned to mush from the force of it all.
Fantasus laughed broadly.
“Hahahaha!”
[Is that thing even human?]
Prince made a slightly dumbfounded face. However the captured zombie butler still had a faint smile.
[It’s useless.]
Shk.
Swish.
The white zombies were broken and battered their bones shattered and skin turned into a fine paste. Yet all twenty of them started wriggling before rising to their feet.
[Do not underestimate them. They will fight until they are nothing but dust!]
Elizabeth moved her fingers to tighten her grip on the butler but he smiled eerily.
[Forget about me kill that big bastard first!!]
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
The white zombies rushed at Fantasus.
Too far away to help Simon urged
“President Fantasus! Dodge!”
“Hmph it’s fine!”
He stood in place with his arms crossed completely relaxed. The leading zombie swung its arm at the defenseless Fantasus.
Thump!
It immediately collapsed against the ground forehead-first unable to reach Fatansus.
Thump! Thump!
The same happened to the other zombies that attacked. Their stumbling steps slowed and they all fell.
[N-No way!]
Moments later all twenty white zombies lay on the ground in a circle around Fantasus.
[How did you…?! What did you do to my white onis?!!]
“I just…”
Fantasus grinned and held up three fingers.
“…put them to sleep!”
Everyone looked puzzled.
The zombie butler bound up by spider webs started frothing at the mouth and writhing as if having a seizure.
[That can’t be it! The concept of sleep doesn’t exist to an undead!!]
“I guess not.”
Fantasus rubbed his chin.
“Then let’s redefine sleep for an undead as ‘an act of lying still stopping all activities such as being conscious’ and make them do that.”
[What kind of nonsense—!!!]
“How can you call it nonsense…”
Gesturing to the ‘sleeping’ zombies around him Fantasus hammered home
“…when it’s happening right now?”
The zombie butler looked as if he had been struck by a hammer on the back of his head.
A curser who easily denies and redefines even the laws of the dead… Not to mention the laws of the living.
This was…
‘The strongest necromancer in Kizen!’
Simon’s eyes sparkled with respect.
“Hahahahahahaha!!”
Hearing Fantasus’ booming laughter Simon looked at Kajann in surprise. Then Simon whispered
“K-Kajann! Is it okay for President Fantasus to find out about me?”
“Find out what?”
“…That I’m a Commander.”
“Don’t worry the president is one of Nefthis’ closest allies just like me. He’s trustworthy.”
Simon sighed in relief. That’s why they seemed so close despite having no apparent connection.
At that moment…
[Interesting.]
The voice was strange. It came from the zombie yet it clearly was something else. Simon turned his head sharply toward the noise.
Crack! Crack!
The zombie butler’s forehead split open and a human eye popped out.
The eyeball squelched as it looked around for a moment before fixing its gaze on Simon.
[What are you doing capturing my subordinate Simon Polentia?]
The voice came from a soul-binding magic circle that was drawn on the zombie butler’s body.
[C-Commander!]
The Zombie butler lowered his head in what seemed to be shame. Yet the first reply that came from the magic circle was a sinister laugh.
[What a sight you’re in butler. Your problem is being too soft-hearted. I told you you must be prepared to annihilate all of Pentamonium.]
[…I have no face to show you.]
Simon turned to face Magnus’ eye that had popped out of the zombie butler’s forehead taking control of the conversation himself.
“No more talk is needed. I only have one demand.’
Simon’s eyes gleamed.
“An exchange. Akemus for this bastard.”
[Bwahahahahaha!]
A loud laugh erupted from the circle the vivid veins inside it rippling with every vibration.
However Simon stayed resolutely silent forcing Magnus to make a response.
[Bold. How very bold.]
Simon already had an idea of what Magnus was after.
To acquire more Ancient undead.
He couldn’t imagine Magnus letting go of one of his precious Ancient Undead so easily.
So finally Magnus spoke.
[Tell me the time and place kid.]
* * *
The situation was quickly resolved.
Although the barrier was breached and zombies had entered the city Pentamonium’s swift response minimized civilian casualties. Having many necromancers capable of fighting at the event was significant advantage too.
This was because unlike Magnus—who was a stereotypical evil-doer—the zombie butler valued the Legion’s reputation.
He carried out Magnus’ orders to kidnap Simon but he wanted to avoid turning the entire Dark Alliance into enemies of the Fifth Legion by reaping death at an event attended by nobles across the entire kingdom.
Even Magnus his master had noticed that unwillingness.
Because of this the Pentamonium incident was contained and resolved and Simon captured the zombie butler.
There were no major casualties but the city was in too much chaos to continue the event.
Pentamonim declared the end of the conference and sent everyone back.
Simon was also set to return to Kizen and Student-Council President Fantasus used his authority to help.
But first…
The hostage exchange.
Whooooooooooosh…
The location was an empty field not far from Pentamonium.
In the vast plain the sparse grass barely touching the shins Simon stood wearing Pier’s Bone Armor.
Next to him was the zombie butler utterly restrained by Elizabeth’s spider webs and curse talismans.
Simon wordlessly checked his watch.
‘Five minutes left.’
