Necromancer Academy’s Genius Summoner – 358

Chapter 358
“I have heard the rumors Sir Simon Polentia.”
On his way to the artifact auction house Simon was suddenly engaged in a conversation with a noble.
He wasn’t just any noble either. He was from the Ivory Tower.
“As always you are certainly the talk of the town. I heard you caused a big incident here at Pentamonium as well. The rumor is spreading fast. Haha!”
Simon gave a humble business smile.
“You honor me.”
“And…”
He looked at the girl with ivory hair clinging to Simon’s arm. A satisfied smile was on his face.
“You seem to get along very well with our heir.”
“Ohoho!”
Serene elegantly laughed covering her mouth with the back of her hand.
“We’re more than just close. More than friends? Less than a couple?”
Serene started chatting away like a bird while Simon wordlessly maintained his smile.
The noble from the Ivory Tower looked at Simon and again said
“If it is alright I would like to invite you to a conference hosted by the Ivory Tower.”
“Oh it would be an honor.”
“Pentamonium houses a plethora of knowledge and data but it is a home of merchants not scholars selling and trading their knowledge for money. It is truly unfortunate.”
Of course the Ivory Tower noble was insulting Pentamonium while promoting themselves.
After parting with the noble Simon stopped by a nearby cafe for a break.
“Simon ahhhh~”
Serene offered him the ice cream in her hand. Simon feeling awkward pulled his head back slightly.
“…The person from the Ivory Tower is gone already.”
“Come on what’s the big deal?”
Said Serene with a smile. Her eyebrow furrowed and her eyes filled with determination making it clear that she wouldn’t back down.

In the end Simon looked around nervously and unwillingly took a bite. Then Serene opened her mouth wide and bit the spot where Simon’s lips had touched.
“Wait…!”
“Hm?”
Serene cutely blinked and started licking the ice cream all over.
As she moved she arrogantly tilted her head back out of habit her fox-like eyes curving with mischief. Anyone who knew her well could clearly see she was feigning innocence.
Embarrassed Simon turned his head away making Serene chuckle as if she found Simon’s reaction cute.
“Must be nice.”
Said Kajann sitting between the two with a blank stare.
“More importantly an outdoor cafe like this is unsuitable for bodyguarding. The artifact auction will start soon so hurry up and eat.”
“Oh honestly!”
Serene kept her smile but a vein popped on her forehead.
“You really can’t read the room huh? You were also just following around when the elders talked to us. Help me this once please!”
“Protecting Simon is more important. And Magnus could always approach in disguise so no one is safe to talk to.”
“You’re really tiring.”
While Serene sullenly finished the ice cream Simon suddenly whipped his head back.
“What’s wrong Simon?”
“Doesn’t it feel a bit… chaotic around us?”
“Of course it’s chaotic. The cafe is full of people.”
“No no. Not like that.”
Simon stared out the window. Then he suddenly stood up and ran out of the cafe.
When he left the noisy cafe it became certain.
“Kyaaaaaaah!”
Screams rang out around them.
Kajann and Serene followed after him. They also heard the piercing screams.
“Run! Run away!”
“They said the city was safe!”
Seeing the people’s pale faces it was clear that something had gone terribly wrong.
‘Zombies…!’
They were zombies running on all fours after the citizens.
“Hm what? Isn’t this just some dumb necromancer failing to control their thoughts?”
“There are too many for that I think.”
The zombies looking like small pinpricks from afar quickly surged out in the hundreds.
Kajann nodded with a serious face.
“Those are zombies from outside the barrier.”
Simon quickly turned his head.
“Wait Kajann! Does that mean…?!”
“Yeah.”

Kajann said in a cold tone.
“It seems that the barrier surrounding Pentamonium has failed.”
Weewoo!
Weewoo!
Sirens and alarms echoed throughout the city.
[Emergency! This is an emergency! Undead monsters are roaming the city. Visitors please evacuate to the nearest glass tower immediately!]
The approaching zombies the evacuation broadcast and the flashing red lights all proved that this wasn’t some ‘show’.
It was only a matter of time before the vibrant city descended into chaos.
“Simon! Look over there!”
Serene pointed behind him.
The seven largest and tallest glass towers the core of Pentamonium were starting to be covered with another barrier. This system automatically triggered seals to protect the data stored inside.
“Looks like we won’t make it into the glass towers if we don’t hurry.”
“…”
Simon closed his eyes.
Hundreds and thousands of emotions whirled around inside his head.
When he opened his eyes again he saw the zombies and the terrified people.
“Let’s start guiding the civilians to evacuate. I’m sure we can buy some time.”
Simon opened his subspace. Skeleton archers responding to his thoughts immediately jumped out.
“Shoot all the zombies you see!”
Hearing the order the archers swiftly notched their arrows and shot. Arrows rained down on the pursuing zombies.
Then Simon swung his arms like scooping up laundry and skeleton bones flew in swiftly attaching to the fleeing people. The bones then lifted the people into the air and carried them to safety.
“You two help me please!”
“I guess I have no choice~”
Serene grabbed her ivory hair shook it a few times and let it flutter behind her like she was posing for a photoshoot. As her hair swayed countless feathers fell to the ground.
“Come forth!”
The feathers transformed into magic circles and Serene’s ‘feather soldiers’ that she recently presented for her thesis emerged from them.
The feather soldiers flew into the sky to fight the zombies while Serene herself coated other feathers with jet-black to make them into sharp knives.
Zombies fell bleeding spurting out wherever the feathers passed.
“A large number of them are coming from the right.”
Said Kajann taking a fighting stance. A huge horde of zombies was approaching from the side.
“Wait a minute Kajann.”
Simon stopped Kajann’s charge. Fireballs of varying sizes were crashing down from the sky.
Boooom!
Booooooooooom!
The barrage obliterated a horde of zombies coming in from the side.
“We’ll help too Kizen!”
Alland Sierra and Moiran students joined the battle delaying their own evacuation.
As they moved their arms with practiced precision unfamiliar summons appeared from everywhere. There were plant monsters rooting into the ground and undead stingrays floating in the air.
Whiiirrrr!
Moreover Pentamonium’s counterattack began. Guided magic circles spread across the ground and huge ‘abominations’ started falling from the sky.
Golems swooped in like falling comets crushing zombies around them as they joined the battlefield.
“They’re fast.”
Said Kajann.
“The defense system of Pentamonium is working now.”
While barriers around the seven glass towers were forming they were also being remotely activated at places with many civilians like restaurants and outdoor stages.
Any zombies who touched the barriers turned into black ash their flesh sizzling away.
‘This side is somewhat under control now.’
Simon looked around and spotted the only student from Alland he knew.
“Benz!”
Hearing Simon’s call Benz couldn’t hide the overwhelming joy appearing on his face.
‘I didn’t expect him to remember my name!’
“I’ll leave this side to you guys. Please fight as needed and retreat to the barrier with the civilians.”
“Okay! Leave it to us!”
Golems fell all around and barriers were forming.
Even though a breach like this was unprecedented Pentamonium’s history the city responded well.
Above all necromancer visitors rolled up their sleeves and joined the fight. All who could came out while regular civilians escaped into the glass towers’ barriers.
Simon Serene and Kajann also moved across the battlefield continuously rescuing civilians.
‘If it’s come to fighting zombies it should be…’
Usually he wouldn’t even think of summoning the Legion’s Ancient Undead but it was acceptable in a chaotic situation like this. The place was already teeming with undead.
“Help me Prince!”
Said Simon placing the ring on his left hand on the body of a fallen zombie. Immediately a black lightning bolt from the sky struck the zombie’s body.
[As expected…]
What slowly rose up was a small boy wearing a faded crown.
As soon as he opened his eyes he chuckled at the sight of the black zombies surrounding the area.
[Every time I’m summoned it’s always a situation like this.”
“Prince I need your power!”
[Hehe!]
Prince grabbed the crown on his head.
[I guess it’s time for the hidden ace to make his entrance!]
He activated the power of the ‘crown’ his green eyes flashing with light.
The eyes of some of the zombies charging in pitch-black hordes turned the same shade of green.
And any zombies under Prince’s control…
‘Corpse Explosion!’
…could be detonated by Simon the Legion’s Commander.
Booooooooom!
Ka-boooooooooom!
Huge explosions erupted amongst the swarming zombies. Each one took out nearly twenty zombies on its own.
“Please keep it up!”
[Got it!]
The zombies swarming in from one side were completely eradicated thanks to Simon and Prince’s efforts.
“Oh I see I see~”
Serene controlling the feather soldiers approached with a smile.
“I’ve never seen such a cute undead kid before.”
[Wh-What did you say?]
Prince looked up at her red fire burning in his green eyes.
[I am Prince ruler of Death Land and the apex of all zombies! Don’t call me cute!!]
“Oh my~ how cute.”
Ignoring him Serene stroked Prince’s head. What little blood remained in Prince’s face flushed it red with anger.
[Don’t treat me like a kid!!!]
“Do you want some candy?”
[I don’t want it!!]
“You two stop fooling around and help!”
The Simon and Prince combo quickly stabilized the battle with their overwhelming firepower.
However the flow of zombies was seemingly endless so it was like pouring water into a bottomless pit.
“Looks like the civilian evacuation is almost complete.”
Said Kajann hearing a report from a crystal ball he held.
“We should return to a glass tower too. It’s too dangerous here.”
“Yes!”
The three headed towards the nearest glass tower which was the summoning department.
“Crap.”
But the barrier had already enveloped the entire glass tower. It was completely sealed off.
“Can they really close it down this quickly~? There might be more people outside.”
“Let’s try another place.”
The three went past the zombies and headed straight to the next glass tower. However this building’s barrier was also completely formed.
“The higher-ups of Pentamonium must’ve been in a hurry.”
Chided Kajann.
“To them the worst case scenario would be losing data. They must’ve thought that preventing entry was more important than human casualties.”
“Oh! Look over there!”
Serene pointed to the inside of the glass tower visible through the barrier.
It was a total disaster. The walls had been dyed crimson with blood and zombies wandered within.
“What a mess. Did zombies get in before the barrier fully formed?”
“…”
At that moment Simon’s face became noticeably pale.
“What’s wrong Simon?”
“That building…”
His eyes shook with fear.
“It’s the building where Sasha is.”
