Necromancer Academy’s Genius Summoner – 350
by Jessie@AFNCC
Chapter 350
Inside the Mutant clubroom.
“Comrade what about this? This one is my recommendation.”
Benya Vanilla whom Simon hadn’t seen for a while was in high spirits as she spoke enthusiastically with him holding her hand-picked ‘lich material list’.
“Hm the skeleton isn’t urgent so I’d like to look at the heart first.”
“Is that so?”
Simon’s preparations for creating a lich were progressing smoothly.
He planned to use the ‘crystal skeletons’ he obtained from the last after-school BDMAT as the lich’s skeleton and he intended to make do with the autonomous staff ‘Areldellu’ for the lich’s staff.
The problem was the heart. Simon looked at the items on the list Benya recommended.
[Adekka’s Heart]
-Registration Number: LSY-BA-55-70
-Normal cardioversion method.
-Specialized in jet-black fire elemental magic.
-Weight: 450g
-Maximum jet-black conversion rate: 5000PD
-Maximum output: 500Rcm.
-Durability: Moderate.
-Freshness: High.
…
There was a lot to consider such as weight output and heartbeat methods. But what was most important to Simon was at the very bottom.
-Price: 8000 gold.
‘Eight thousand gold?!’
Simon’s total money including the money he got from selling the monster duke’s organs was about 3000 gold.
Although this was quite a sum it was nowhere near enough to buy a lich heart. There was a reason why summoning was known as a money sink.
“What’s wrong?”

Simon sheepishly replied
“…I-It’s more expensive than I thought.”
“Really? This is the usual market price though.”
The daughter of a rich family assured nonchalantly.
The issue was not just any heart could be used as a Life Vessel. Finding a suitable heart and preparing it enough takes a lot of work and materials.
Since it was like the ‘core’ that a necromancer uses the heart needed magical properties. In fact hearts that could become Life Vessels were considered ‘luxury artifacts’.
“I’ll take a look at the other options too.”
Simon turned to the next page of the list Benya had printed out.
He didn’t understand the details so he just looked at two things: the name and the price.
[Hobble’s Heart]
-Price: 12000 gold.
[Veritte’s Heart]
-Price: 14000 gold.
‘The price doesn’t stop going up!!’
The first heart he saw for 8000 gold was the lowest on the list and generally the prices hovered around 10000 gold.
And the most expensive item on the list was…
[Herseva’s Heart]
-Registration Number: LVT-CP-10-91
-Reverse cardioversion method.
-Specialized in supernatural abilities.
-Weight: 900g
-Maximum jet-black conversion rate: 10000PD
-Maximum output: 2000Rcm.
-Durability: Highest.
-Freshness: Highest.
‘I want it.’
Even just looking at the sample picture on the printed list made him drool.
Of course this was speaking as a necromancer.
In the picture this heart—wrapped in extremely luxurious packaging—glowed a vivid blue. It seemed like even without much effort this heart would make a powerful lich.
But without money it was like wishing for a flying pig. Still Simon couldn’t let go of it and asked
“Senior is there any way to make money in a short period?”
Benya raised her finger and immediately answered
“Mission evaluations!”
…No matter how much Simon thought about it the mission evaluation payments wouldn’t be nearly enough.
To even buy the cheapest heart he needed 5000 more gold. Who in the world would commission a student with that much money?
Even when he was called by Princess Mollie to the Dresden Palace he only received 2000 gold.
‘Should I consult with Rick? Or maybe get a loan?’

While Simon was racking his brain Benya slapped her knee and shouted
“Eureka!”
Simon quickly looked up.
“What?”
“It’s the Pentamonium Conference period right now!”
The Pentamonium Conference was a huge event held once a year.
Simply put the top necromancers of the continent gathered to present their research and theses sharing valuable information. Even Professor Walter whom Simon was keeping an eye on had left Roke Island for a while to attend this conference.
“If you have a unique idea as a necromancer you can write a thesis get it evaluated and register it at the Pentamonium. You may then receive royalties or sell it to other necromancers! Plus Kizen will also be sending students soon!”
“Are you saying I can sell my ideas at the conference?”
“Of course! If it’s a great idea they don’t care if you’re a student or a neighborhood brat.”
Simon was intrigued.
Recently while researching the lich he had come up with various original techniques. Though he wasn’t sure if professional necromancers would buy them.
“Are you going to the conference too Senior?”
“Of course! I’ve been going every year.”
Said Benya.
“Last year I went there as a first-year Summoning representative from Kizen and earned about 4000 gold with a simplified formula for a skeleton knight.”
“Woah!”
Simon’s jaw dropped. 4000 gold?!
“I’m still making money from it. In total I probably made about 6000 gold. What do you think?’
Simon’s current biggest goal was to create a lich. He was willing to do anything for it.
“How can I participate in the conference?”
The next morning.
Class A gathered excitedly in their ‘Beginner Dark Magic’ lecture room.
“We’ll be seeing Professor Jane after so long!”
“I know right?”
The Class A students hadn’t seen their advising professor for over a month as Professor Jane had been called away for various external matters.
“The professor is coming!”
The students of Class A quickly took their seats.
A moment later the sound of high heels echoing crisply through the hallway a woman with short hair entered the lecture room.
‘Long time no see Professor Jane!’
Simon’s eyes sparkled. Yet she maintained her characteristic emotionless face as always.
“Professor! I’m glad you’re safe!”
“Thank you on behalf of the kingdom!”
A group of students waiting at the front of the lecture room rushed over and handed her a bouquet.
All of these students were from the Kallos Kingdom. They expressed gratitude for her resolving the recent crisis involving level-7 giant monsters spreading from ‘The Forest of Giants’.
Jane accepted the bouquets from the students and then returned to the front to stand before her students.
“Class A.”
All the students in the lecture room beamed and responded with a loud “Yes!!”
“I cannot help but be disappointed.”
Jane was already scanning through a set of documents an assistant passed her.
“I see ten students still haven’t secured five BDMAT cards while I was away. This kind of result is unbecoming of you all.”
There were no words expressing that it was good to see them again.
“Why are your grades in performance assessments such a mess? You should all be ashamed of being outperformed by Class B.”
As expected Jane’s nagging continued. Watching her unleash the scolding she’d been holding back the students quietly smiled to themselves.
After thoroughly destroying the students’ wills Jane finally announced something new.
“I’m sure you are all aware of the Pentamonium Conference.”
“Of course!”
She continued.
“This year Kizen will again send students to present their theses at the conference. You have the freedom to choose a topic and each subject will send two first-year students. Any volunteers?”
The classroom fell silent at those words.
Being selected to represent Kizen for the Pentamonium was something that could be a great honor for one’s family but preparing a thesis for a massive audience and judges would put a major strain on them.
After all they were already busy preparing for various performance assessments too.
While everyone was reading the room…
Fwip!
A hand shot up as if waiting for this moment. All eyes turned to face it.
“Simon Polentia do you wish to participate in the conference?”
“Yes!”
Since things had turned out just like Benya had said Simon answered without hesitation.
“If your preparation for performance assessments finals or moving-up exams is lacking the school won’t force you to participate. Surviving here is the top priority after all.”
“Understood! I’ll make sure to keep up with my schoolwork too!”
Jane nodded in satisfaction.
“Would it be okay if your topic for the presentation is a thesis related to Summoning?”
“Yes please!”
Jane left a check mark on her paper with a quill and handed the document to her assistant.
“Wow! Are you really going to join that?”
Asked Rick from the seat behind him leaning in closer. Meilyn and Camibarez also turned to Simon.
“That’s amazing Simon! You’re a first-year and you’re already planning to present at a conference?!”
“Are you sure you’ll be alright? Our schedule is already pretty tight…”
“It’s fine.”
Answered Simon with a relaxed smile.
“Actually I have an idea in mind already. I just need to write it down.”
Just present a piece of paper and grab the moneybag. Including the weekend it’s a two night three day event so it’s not that burdensome either.
It seemed like there was much more to gain than to lose from this plan.
‘If I can get the money for the heart from this trip then everything is over! No matter what happens I’ll create a lich before the second year starts!’
The feeling of charging straight toward a goal was always exhilarating.
* * *
Time passed quickly.
Simon didn’t spend a lot of time preparing his thesis for the conference. It was about a technique he had already used once before and it was quite high quality already so he didn’t need to worry about refining it first.
He just needed to write everything down on paper.
Then the final hurdle was waiting. The paper had to be reviewed by the subject professor.
If the professor deemed it below standard going to the conference would be impossible.
After finishing his morning class Simon walked toward Aaron’s lab.
‘Right one more person will be coming today.’
There had to be at least two first-year Summoning students presenting their theses and they would likely spend the entire conference together.
‘I heard it’s neither Toto nor Fitzgerald.’
Who could it be? They should also come over for the review so Simon would be meeting them soon.
A moment later Simon arrived at the familiar door of Aaron’s lab. He knocked lightly with the back of his hand.
“Professor Aaron this is Simion Polentia.”
Permission to enter came from inside so Simon opened the door and entered.
‘…Huh?’
Someone had arrived before him.
He could only see her back but the long hair and skirt indicated that it was a female student.
“You’re right on time. Come on in.”
Simon could barely hear Aaron’s voice.
‘No way.’
A tall girl with beautiful light ivory hair flowing behind her standing with her hands clasped behind her back.
She turned around and her eyes widened as she smiled.
“Oh my~ I didn’t expect to run into you here Simon!”
It was none other than Serene Aindark.
Simon’s face filled with a mixture of surprise and confusion.
“Wh-Why are you here?”
“Why else would I be here? Of course…”
She raised the thesis in her hand saying “Ta-dah!”
“As. A. Summoning. Aspirant I’m here to present my thesis at the conference.”
Said Serene cutely winking.
“What a coincidence am I right?”
‘No this cannot be a coincidence no matter how much I think about it.’
Simon forced a smile and waved.
“You two know each other? Even better.”
Said Aaron while glancing at his wristwatch.
“Just wait a moment. One more person is expected to arrive.”
“What? There are three of us going?”
“Yeah it turned out to be like that.”
Answered Aaron looking somewhat displeased.
Just then there was a knock.
“There we go. Come in!”
Click.
The door opened revealing the third participant.
