Necromancer Academy’s Genius Summoner – 349

Chapter 349
When they left after finishing the siege as promised only three hours had passed.
Even if they felt like they had been on a battlefield all day.
There was just one hour left until the BDMAT was over. Simon and his friends hurriedly searched for their next cards.
Fortunately Simon had glasses specifically designed to help with finding cards so the three of them found a red card without much trouble and entered it.
Their last game of the day was a ‘Curses Written Test’ theme.
In a room where walls closed in around them or the ceiling descended as time went on they had to solve problems involving curse formulas to escape to the next room.
Of course Meilyn played a crucial role in this game. She solved problems quickly and accurately often finding the solution before she even finished reading the problem. It was no wonder she had ranked second in written tests.
[Identify five curses used on this patient based on the symptoms described.]
“Since the patient said their leg feels numb wouldn’t it be a Convulsion curse?”
Said Simon.
“Hey now the problem wouldn’t be that simple.”
Rebutted Rick.
“There’s definitely a trap in this problem. The answer must be a fear-related curse! I bet they’re feeling numbness in their leg because it’s trembling with fear! Right Meilyn?”
“Shut up both of you.”
Snapped Meilyn who was solving the problem in front of the door.
She needed to concentrate fully on the problem but these clueless boys kept backseating her. Losing her patience she screamed in frustration
“Agh! Go away! You guys are just interrupting my focus!”
In the end Simon and Rick were demoted from solving problems to holding back the closing walls and ceiling to buy some time.
Nevertheless it was still good teamwork. Meilyn could solve the problems without being pressured by the time. Simon also gave some advice on curses related to summoning.
And so…
[All problems have been solved!]
[You won the game!]
The three of them managed to obtain the red card and safely headed out.
“It’s over!”

When they stepped out the BDMAT was over. Students were boisterously laughing and returning to their dorms.
Rick stretched.
“Ughhh! We really got over a huge mountain. This sense of accomplishment is so damn good!”
“Yeah good job.”
Simon smiled and looked at Meilyn.
“You too Meilyn. Thank you for your hard work.”
“Hmph.”
Meilyn coyly brushed her hair behind her ears.
“You all owe me one got it? C’mon buy me a nice dinner tonight.”
Rick interrupted.
“Hey now! If you’re going to put it that way you owe me even bigger with all the information I provided during the siege! You were getting beaten up by that random girl from the Hearts family.”
“You!! …I don’t have a clue as to what you’re talking about!”
As the two started fighting again Simon checked the cards he had collected.
Red orange yellow blue dark blue and purple. And on top of that a gold card.
Now he just needed one more card from the final BDMAT. Then first place would be guaranteed.
‘It’s a bit concerning that the remaining card is green though.’
The green card was likely to be a necromancy-related theme. Simon needed to prepare for it since it was his weakest field.
“What are you doing? Simon! Hurry up!”
“I’m coming I’m coming!”
Simon quickly followed after Meilyn and Rick.
He was planning to fully enjoy their victory at least for today.

In front of Bahil’s lab.
Chehekle the chief assistant teacher of Curses straightened her blouse’s collar and knocked on the door.
“Professor Bahil it’s me Chehekle.”
No one answered but she opened the door and entered as if she was used to it.
Tap. Scratch scratch. Tap.
It was the same scene she saw every time.
Inside the room the lights off Bahil sat on a chair right in front of the blackboard his right hand moving swiftly to write formulas without even looking at the board.
It was as if he was mechanically copying the knowledge from his mind onto the board.
He rested his chin on the hand not holding chalk and stared into space with a somewhat blank expression.
Not even bothering to mention this new addition to a long list of Bahil’s eccentricities Chehekle reported
“Professor the first-year students’ after-school BDMAT has just ended.”
Bahil nodded slightly.
“It seems like it given the noise outside.”

“You also seem busy preparing your paper for the conference Professor.”
“This isn’t much.”
Tap.
After finishing the last formula and placing a final dot Bahil finally stood up and straightened the wrinkles in his clothes.
“Nothing but a simple job. The necromancers at the conferences are all a bunch of idiots. Just presenting common knowledge in an unfamiliar way makes them applaud.”
“…To you it might be common knowledge but to ordinary people? It really isn’t professor.”
“Would you like a cup of coffee?”
Said Bahil as he walked away seeming to have instantly forgotten all about the conference.
“You always make coffee for me Chehekle. At least today I want to make one for you.”
“You honor me.”
Chehekle sighed lightly and checked Bahil’s countenance.
“You’re calmer about it than I expected.”
“About what?”
Bahil started heating water with a casual five-part curse.
“About Simon.”
“Yes?”
“There’s a rumor among the assistant teachers that Professor Aaron offered Simon to be his direct disciple.”
“I see.”
“Are you really alright?”
Bahil filled the pot with an expressionless face.
“Aaron also has the right to offer Simon direct discipleship Chehekle.”
Chehekle flinched.
This man was definitely strange today.
She was sure he wasn’t the kind of man who’d brush over something like this. He would be throwing things breaking windows and flinging curses everywhere.
She decided to probe a bit more.
“You haven’t even been approaching Simon much these days.”
“Hmm.”
“Y-You don’t seem that threatened I understand?”
“Hmm.”
Was he broken?
Maybe the shock was too great? Or had he gone mad?
Seeing him so robotic that he probably wouldn’t bleed a single drop of blood if stabbed with a needle… For the first time ever Chehekle felt bad for the old man.
“…This isn’t like you Professor.”
Said Chehekle giving a slightly stern look.
“What do you mean?”
Bahil still spoke lazily.
“I’ve never known you to get into such a slump… nor to pretend as if nothing is happening!”
But no matter what she said Bahil didn’t respond.
Feeling a bit annoyed she took a deep breath and stabbed
“This is really so unlike you Professor Bahil! Giving up so easily?! Were you not serious about Simon?!!”
At that moment…
Crack!
Lightning struck.
The world turned white around her. The lab turned white too.
In this moment of white and black contrast Chehekle could clearly see.
She could see the words written all over the lab.

Chehekle’s face turned as white as a sheet matching the color of the world around her.
This entire lab…
No matter where she looked everything was filled with obsessive scrawlings about Simon.
Simon’s name solutions Simon wrote problems Simon solved food Simon ate skills Simon learned and the future Simon should pursue.
“I’m not serious about Simon?”
In the world of white and black a gleam of cold blue glowed from within the madman’s eyes.
“That’s impossible.”
Crack!
The lightning struck again and the world returned to its original state.
Chehekle reeling in shock lost strength in her legs and flopped on the floor.
“Ah oh my.”
Bahil made an embarrassed smile.
“I got agitated without realizing it. Sorry to surprise y—”
“You crazy bastard!!”
Screamed Chehekle. Her heart was pounding worryingly loudly and small tears welled up in her eyes.
“I’m almost about to hate myself for worrying even a moment about a maniac like you!!”
“Haha…”
Bahil laughed softly and approached Chehekle.
“There’s no need to worry about Simon. It’s not like Aaron took him as his direct disciple yet either. That’s his limit considering…”
His voice went as cold as those horrible horrible eyes that Chehekle only caught a glimpse of.
“…the ‘pain’ he has.”
Bahil extended his hand but she slapped it away and stood up herself.
“So what? Does that mean you’re relaxing right now?”
“Of course when I first heard the news I felt my blood boil. My brain furiously worked to find thousands of ways to kill Aaron.”
“How pathetic…”
Muttered Chehekle under her breath.
“But it’s fine! This is nothing! In the end S-Simon will be mine! Mine!! Now here have some coffee.”
“Professor Bahil.”
Still furious Chehekle turned the coffee Bahil gave her upside down and poured it into the sink.
“Shall I judge things objectively looking at the current situation?”
Clink.
Placing the empty coffee cup down she continued
“Simon has learned Bone Armor and Blood Golem from Professor Aaron and is currently learning to create a lich. Meanwhile you’ve only taught him the four curses. Do you think you really think you can compete?”
“Teaching four great curses isn’t the end of it.”
Scoffed Bahil.
“We still have ‘Compellonia’ which can only be learned after mastering the four curses. Simon is a diligent student. Even though he’s focusing on lich creation and his summoning he will at least keep his promises to me. He will complete all four curses by the end of his first year.”
“…What exactly is this ‘Compellonia’ anyway?”
“Just wait and see. Simon will be unrecognizable after he first uses Compellonia. Everything will change.”
Bahil spread his arms out wide like addressing a crowd.
“No matter what anyone says he’s the same kind of crazy as me. He has the talent and the madness and therefore…”
A demonic grin ripped itself open on Bahil’s lips.
“He’ll inevitably make the same choices as me.”

The next day.
Simon was learning ‘Life Vessel’ in Aaron’s lab.
“I did it Professor!”
Said Simon releasing his hand. Two bands of jet-black intersected in the air.
“I see.”
Aaron nodded slightly with a blank face but…
‘…What kind of monster am I teaching right now?’
In fact he was about to fall over in shock. Simon had mastered the basics of Life Vessel in just a week and succeeded in creating the ‘band’.
But he hid his surprise and spoke calmly.
“Don’t get too cocky. The band is just one of the basic steps of Life Vessel. Consider it as you just taking your first step.”
“Yes Professor! Please teach me the next step!”
Aaron shook his head and stood up.
“Take a break. Resting is important too.”
“What? I’m fine…”
Tap.
When Aaron lightly poked Simon’s forehead he fell back and collapsed onto the sofa.
“You can’t be fine after making a band three times. Rest for a while.”
As if he was under a curse or something he couldn’t move. As he gave in and felt himself sink into the soft sofa he closed his eyes and started snoring within seconds.
“…He really pushed himself.”
While Simon was soundly sleeping Aaron reviewed the materials he would teach the boy.
Two hours later Simon woke up.
“Ah!”
Simon stretched.
“My body feels so light! I feel like I can do anything!”
“Calm down.”
As Simon woke up Aaron handed him a freshly brewed cup of tea.
“It’s to rejuvenate your body.”
“Thank you very much… Ptth!”
Simon took a sip immediately frowned sticking out his tongue as he visibly cringed. It was bitter beyond imagination.
Aaron let out a chuckle which was rare for him.
“Bitter medicine is always good for you. Make sure to drink it all.”
“…D-Drink this?”
When Simon looked up with a face full of complaints Aaron flatly said
“If you can’t finish it today’s lesson ends here.”
At that Simon immediately drank the tea in one gulp before immediately sticking out his stinging tongue. Aaron handed him cold water.
‘Still.’
Simon smiled as he took the water and drank it.
‘It’s nice that I became closer to Professor Aaron. Now it finally feels more like a proper professor-and-disciple relationship.’
Aaron plopped down in the seat opposite Simon.
“Well then before we proceed I have one question.”
“Yes!”
“Have you found a heart that will become the lich’s Life Vessel?”
Simon scratched the side of his head.
“…Ah. Well a-about that.”
