    Chapter 347

The battle of all the necromancers grew fierce.

At first the fight only involved twenty or so people in total but as they summoned undead it escalated into a massive battle of nearly 50 vs 50.

Explosions came from all directions undead howled and curses blotted out the sun.

    “Break through! Get past them!”

“Put up an ice wall Meilyn!”

“There’s no need to overdo it! Send out your undead and shoot curses from behind!”

Everyone was making their final stand screaming at the top of their lungs as they fought.

All thought of cards or prizes had long vanished from their minds.

All that remained was the desire to win.

Amid the bloodthirsty battle in the palace yard Elissa—watching on from a Phantom Ship—had a little bit of a different tactic.

‘If I get too close I might be hit by Meilyn’s fire magic and shooting cannonballs might hit my allies too.’

Finally Elissa decided to target the inner castle. She tilted the three Phantom Ships slightly and unleashed a concentrated bombardment sweeping away soldiers on the castle walls.

All the necromancers from the defending team who could’ve countered this were fighting in the palace yard.

Elissa’s one-sided bombardment threw the inner defenses into disarray and finally…

[The north gate of the inner castle has been breached!]

[The morale of the Aeon Kingdom soldiers has plummeted.]

[The morale of the Khan Kingdom soldiers has shot up.]

The Khan Kingdom successfully breached the castle gate.

Seeing this Simon held up his supreme commander nameplate and gave an order.

“We’ll execute Plan E! As discussed leave as few troops behind as possible. I want everything able to fight up in the palace.”

The supreme commander’s order was to retreat to the palace.

Not to hold target enemies as they flooded through the castle gates nor to hold any defensive positions in the city. A full retreat.

There was some opposition among the beast-human adjutants but the supreme commander guardian’s orders were as good as the king’s.

In the end the soldiers of the Aeon Kingdom did as Simon said.

‘Alright for now just like this…’

    Ka-boooooom!

    “Simon Polentia!!!”

Breaking through the flames and ice blanketing the battlefield Hector charged forward.

His mouth gaped open. But the Skull Drones flying around Simon were faster.

Fireballs slammed into his open jaw dark-blue smoke obscuring Hector’s vision as his barrier flickered from the damage. He was quickly forced to retreat under Meilyn’s relentless blizzard and dangerous curses from other students.

    “Dammit!”

Retreating from the explosions Hector punched an innocent tree. A fellow attacking-team student cast ‘Cancellation’ on him just in case before reassuring

“Hector! With them holding on with their undead and only shooting curses even second-years wouldn’t be able to charge in head-on.”

    “Those trash bastards…!”

Hector gritted his teeth and looked back. He caught a few eyes quickly moving off of him as attacking team members watched to make sure he wouldn’t get too angry.

“From now on I’ll take the lead!”

Finally Hector began to think about utilizing his allies.

    * * *

“Rick! Meilyn! Please hold out just for 10 minutes!”

Meanwhile Simon had entered the palace and was preparing a spell. He deactivated the Skull Drones reattached the skulls to their bodies and then spread four magic circles in the air.

    {Simon Original – Magivv System}

The magic circles he had conjured in the air connected with the skeleton mages’ circles. He took a deep breath and then focused blocking out the world around him as he modified runes and formulas.

Once he finally changed the spells the skeleton mages could use taking advantage of his Magivv system Simon stepped outside the palace along with them.

    Bang!

As soon as Simon stepped outside the palace an explosion erupted at his feet. The enemy’s attacks had grown much stronger in that short moment he was gone.

    “Bwahaha!”

A student broke through the defense team’s flames with Etherealization.

Seeing Simon the student created a scythe in his hand and charged.

    {Bounce}

However the moment he deactivated the Etherealization to attack a curse shot at him with the speed of lightning. It yanked him back like a rubber band being released launching him back to main battlefield.

“Hey! What are you spacing out for?”

Meilyn who had cast the curse approached Simon while gasping for breath.

“If you have prepared something do it already!”

    “Thank you.”

It was undeniable that Meilyn had the greatest impact in this battle.

She raised ice walls unleashed flames performed pinpoint curse snipes and even controlled a squad of skeletons with her thoughts. She was able to show off her full potential.

Simon slowly closed his eyes and raised both arms.

    ‘Wake up.’

    He could feel it.

    The monster he buried below.

    ‘Wake up!’

    Slowly probing into its thoughts…

    Rrrrrrrrrrrrrumble!

Suddenly the ground began to shake violently. The students clashing in an intense stalemate all had to take wavering steps backward.

    “Wh-What is it this time”

    “…An earthquake?”

When Meilyn quickly turned her head she saw Simon with his eyes closed muttering something as if chanting a spell.

    “There you are!”

    {Strangle}

Hector swung his arm shooting a curse.

    {Cancellation}

Meilyn quickly intercepted swinging her arm to dispel the curse.

    “You trash!! How dare you?!!”

    “Not a chance.”

As the two fired flurries of curses and counter-curses at each other the shaking in the ground grew more and more violent.

Realizing that curses wouldn’t be enough Hector charged through a stream of ice needles Meilyn was shooting aiming only for Simon.

    Crrrrrrrrr…ush!

Just as he got in melee range the ground completely shattered and something dark appeared below. Hector momentum carrying him through the air collided with it and was sent flying with a sickening thud.

    “Wheeeeeeze!”

A monster’s maw the size of a mountain burst from the ground.

    [Shieeeeeeeeeeeeek!]

Everyone’s jaws dropped at the sudden appearance of this colossal monster.

    “Th-That’s it right?”

    Trembling Meilyn looked at Rick.

“That giant beast Simon hunted in the sea during the 3rd BDMAT!”

    “Yeah it’s the monster duke.”

The monster duke snapped its massive jaw closed. As it moved its oozing flesh that seemed to sag off the bones inside rippled its pink skin visible underneath the patchwork of scales that remained.

The zombified monster duke was more terrifying and menacing than anything a budding necromancer could ever imagine.

    Simon issued an absolute order.

    [Get rid of them.]

    Sweeeeeep!

Every time the monster duke twisted its massive body its flippers scraping across the ground students from the attacking team were flung away. It was like trying to fight a mountain.

    “Stop that thing!”

The attacking-team students fired various spells but the monster duke didn’t seem to even notice. The barrage of deadly spells barely even tickled it.

Then once more the ground shattered and students were sent flying.

“Hey commoner!! What the hell is going on?? Didn’t you guys say you’ll salvage that thing’s corpse to sell it?”

    “Hehe it’s a long story.”

The monster duke salvaged from the sea was auctioned off part by part. Vanilla sold the organs used for its breath and certain skin tissues at a high price and Simon earned 2000 gold in the process.

However there were no buyers for the flesh of the monster duke now that it was missing its vital parts. Since it was a rare monster they thought it might attract nobles looking to display it but its condition was too poor to gain any interest.

Someone showed interest in buying it for 30 gold but Simon refused and decided to use it himself.

So with the help of the artisan necromancers from Vanilla who he had befriended before he turned the monster duke into a zombie.

“It lasts for 20 minutes. Once those 20 minutes are up he’ll never be able to use it again.”

“What??! He can only use that thing for 20 minutes and then it’s done for good?? What’s the point of that?!!”

    Rick shrugged.

“Well it’s being used pretty well right now isn’t it?”

    It was certainly impressive.

Despite the barrage of attacks by the attacking students the monster duke seemed barely damaged.

    “Whew…”

Hector was left momentarily breathless as he stared at the monster duke.

Simon had hunted that thing in perfect condition during the 3rd BDMAT.

‘If he did it so can I!’

Hector soared into the air. Almost fully transformed into a corpse dragon he fired his breath at the monster duke’s back. The monster duke in return pushed up its mountainous body to pursue Hector.

From the outside perspective it looked like a dragon from the sky trying to slay a rotting elder god of the sea.

    However…

[I’m sorry to interrupt but you need to retreat now!]

Elissa’s urgent voice came from the cards of all the attacking-team students.

[Soldiers from the Aeon Kingdom are closing in. If you stay there you’ll be surrounded!]

That was right. Supreme Commander Simon’s order was for all soldiers to retreat to the palace.

The soldiers of the Aeon Kingdom fleeing from the inner castle were all rushing up the stairs to the palace.

At this point the attacking team would be completely encircled.

[I prepared a phantom ship for you at the back of our lines so get on board!]

As the message came through attacking students looked down to see packs of Aeon soldiers surging up the stairs.

In the end the attacking team had no choice but to retreat onto the Phantom Ship.

    [Shieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!]

The monster duke screamed trying to bring down the ship but even a creature as horrific as the monster duke couldn’t fly.

“We managed to repel them once but…”

Meilyn wiped the sweat from her forehead and looked at Simon.

“What are you gonna do now?”

The situation was still overwhelmingly unfavorable for the defending team. Over six hours remained and the inner castle had been breached.

While their allies were climbing the stairs Khan Kingdom soldiers who were ten times their number were also moving through the inner castle and coming up to the city.

The attacking team students would come down the ship again when the Khan forces caught up and eventually they’d surround the entire palace.

Even if all their soldiers took shelter inside the indestructible palace necromancers had many ways to attack the soldiers inside like poison gas or wide-range curses.

    “Leave it to me.”

Said Simon his eyes fixed on the monster duke.

At Simon’s order the monster duke began descending the streets it had climbed up.

Then he issued another order with the supreme commander nameplate.

“All forces move to the palace.”

Already Khan soldiers were reaching the stairs up chasing after the retreating defenders. Simon and the other students immediately sortied out to support them.

They squeezed out the last of their jet-black remaining to hold off the Khan kingdom’s pursuit getting their allies into the palace.

    “Hurry up!”

    “Come on now faster!”

As the Aeon forces started entering the palace the attacking soldiers had reached halfway up the stairs. They were packed so tightly that they looked like a wriggling mass of flesh causing a few students to look away in disgust.

Meanwhile the Aeon Kingdom soldiers entered the palace hesitantly.

    Clamor clamor clamor.

“The palace is too small so get inside the obsidian mines!”

    “Move! Move!”

Seeing the soldiers get pushed back into the palace civilians hugged each other in fear.

The king resolutely seated on his throne was surprised when his soldiers abandoned the castle walls and entered the palace but he trusted the guardians so he did not intervene.

    “Just a little bit more.”

Despite the soldiers of the Khan Kingdom getting closer Simon was quietly muttering to himself in the corner.

    “A little more… Just a little more.”

The Khan soldiers were now right in front of the palace. Hector and the students from the attacking team who had retreated on a Phantom Ship also got off it and joined the assault.

    “Cornering themselves like rats huh?”

“Anyone know a good smoke and poison combo?”

The attacking team students already felt like they had won.

But Simon had four magic circles floating in the air and calmly waited. His skeleton mages were also readying their spells with their staffs.

    “Th-The enemies are coming!”

“Is the kingdom truly going to fall now?”

As the soldiers inside the palace began to murmur to each other in resignation Simon who had been preparing his dark spells finally opened his palm.

Meilyn flinched looking at his stance.

    “Hey! Don’t tell me you…!!”

Simon’s palm was facing straight down. The skeleton mages followed suit simultaneously slamming their staffs into the ground.

Once Simon who had been concentrating with his eyes closed opened his eyes slowly a slight yellow tint could be seen in his irises.

It was a state of perfect immersion.

    [Corpse…]

He clenched his fist as the words clawed their way out of his lips.

    […Explosion.]

    Boooooooooooooom!

From far away a tremor could be felt.

    Rrrrrrrrrumble…!

The tremor grew and as it did the sound of a nearby lightning strike deafened those closest to the top of the mines. Finally…

    ————————!

The entire Aeon castle was suddenly filled with dark-blue light.

    Ka-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo-boom!

The ground collapsed and Khan Kingdom soldiers climbing the steps to the palace screamed as they were swept away.

Pillars shattered houses demolished hills collapsed and everything crumbled to dust. The area was quickly covered in black smoke and Khan Kingdom corpses fell like rain.

    “You crazy bastard!”

Shouted Hector his eyes wide open.

“Are you telling me he used that monster duke for a corpse explosion…!”

    Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrumble!

    The capital of a kingdom.

    That day Aeon castle fell.

Not from the efforts of the enemy but at the hands of an ally.
