    Chapter 346

    “Pant! Pant!”

Rick and Meilyn were running full speed up the city’s sloping stairs.

“But man I still don’t understand!’

Shouted Rick in shock as he ran.

“How did the protective stone get destroyed? And why is Hector also in the attacking team?!”

    “Stop whining and keep running.”

Simon’s instructions as the supreme commander were simple.

All the Kizen students were to assemble at the palace.

Simon had decided there was no point in further defending the castle.

“Who was already protecting the palace by the way?

    Asked Meilyn.

    “Emans and Pengel.”

Answered Rick but it seemed like Meilyn had no idea who they were so he added.

“Emans is just an average hemomancer and Pengel bounces between the mid and upper squads but neither of them would last long against Hector unless Pengel can activate Banshee’s Embrace on Hector.”

    “…Banshee’s what?”

    “It’s a thing.”

    Rick looked up.

“Ugh! Please! I just wish somebody notices it and heads there quickly…!”

    * * *

The vacant yard in front of the palace was the final stop to the game’s objective ‘the king’.

Hector and Simon stood facing each other some distance between them.

    “…You bastard.”

Hector’s face which should’ve been one of joy at the prospect of fighting Simon was twisted in horror.

    “What is with you?”

Simon looked like he’d just come from a battle. His clothes and hair were matted with blood and mud his face was pale and he was gasping for breath.

    Hector thought for a moment.

Only one person on the attacking team could’ve made him look like this.

“…So it was you who took Jule down.”

    “Cor…rect.”

Said Simon trying to sound relaxed but he was gasping for air as he spoke.

Hector scowled his nose wrinkling with disgust.

‘I’m sure I told her I want to take on Simon Polentia at his best!’

Hector remembered his conversation with Elissa only a few hours ago.

“I’m telling you if you just do as I say you can win the game and fight Simon!”

“I don’t need you trash. I’ll do as I please.”

“Then you’ll never get into the situation that you want. Simon is also a supreme commander. Do you really think the defending team will let their boss fight you that easily?”

    “…”

It was true. When Elissa saw Hector pause for a moment she quickly pushed her advantage.

“Trust me. I’ll set the best stage for you.”

First she was going to seize the outer castle then dive into the inner castle using whatever means necessary to break the protective stone.

As soon as the protective stone was broken Hector could transform into the corpse dragon and reach the palace at the top of the castle.

Elissa confidently said that when he fights the defending forces in the palace Simon would be the first to come to defend. She’d make sure of it.

And she was right. Simon arrived just as planned but he was already in tatters.

“Let me ask you one thing.”

Eyes ablaze Hector asked through gritted teeth

“Was it your own judgment to go against Jule?”

Simon hesitated not wanting to tell his enemy anything but realized that he wouldn’t really lose anything by answering it.

“No Jule came after me persistently.”

Hector’s frown grew so deep it threatened to reach all the way down below his chin then he looked to the sky and bellowed

    “Elissa Seliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine!!!”

    Simon covered his ears.

    ‘…D-Dragon Fear?’

It was a sound-based curse that was incomparable to the one that werewolf student used on the battlements.

Rick said that Hector wasn’t at the level to use Dragon Fear yet but from the looks of it it wouldn’t take him long until he did learn it.

“…That woman will pay dearly for this after our fight is over!”

Spat Hector looking back down to meet Simon’s eyes.

    ‘Dammit.’

    Hector had mixed feelings.

The foe he considered his rival had been weakened after dealing with the S.A.5

To Hector there was no point in trying to defeat an exhausted Simon. Elissa may’ve seen this as a necessary act for a guaranteed victory but it felt extremely unpleasant for Hector.

    ‘However…’

This test was too important to act selfishly.

It was still the battle against Simon Polentia that he so eagerly anticipated even if he fought him second.

    “Bring out the Royal Bodyguards.”

Said Hector like a conman pushing for a deal.

“I shall wait for you that much.”

“I’m sorry but I don’t have enough strength left to use the Royal Bodyguards.”

The veins in Hector’s neck bulged and his face filled with the red of rage.

“Do you mean to say you can beat me without the help of your Royal Bodyguards after you used all your strength against that swordsman??”

‘…I mean how does one even interpret what I said in that way?’

Simon sighed heavily bringing an arm behind him.

His subspace opened and five skeleton mages came down behind him.

Realistically he was not in a good enough condition to use the Royal Bodyguards one more time here. This was an improvised skill but beggars can’t be choosers.

Simon conjured a magic circle in the air.

    Rattle! Rattle! Rattle!

The skulls of the five skeleton mages flew into the air.

Then the Cloud flowed out from Simon’s body and enveloped the skulls. The skulls became a centerpiece as emerald smoke curled around them.

    {Simon Original – Skull Drone}

Five skulls with smoke trailing out of their eyes and mouths began to slowly rotate around their caster Simon.

    Hector frowned at the sight.

“You’re using that seemingly inferior version of your Royal Bodyguards against me?”

The dragon wings on his back flapped open.

    “Don’t regret it Simon Polentia!”

“What do you mean by inferior?”

Simon smirked and slightly bent his knees ready to move at a pindrop.

“It’s a hidden card in its own way.”

Hector dashed towards Simon without saying anything further.

At the same time the Skull Drones’ jaws opened in midair and dark-blue flames began to spark from within.

    {Dark Blaze}

Hector’s eyes widened as fireballs flew toward him.

‘A spell straight from the skull ignoring both the staff and body?’

Hector quickly changed his direction and dodged the fireballs crashing down into empty space.

    “!”

But while Hector was busy dodging the fireballs Simon charged in from the opposite direction and threw a punch.

    {Hong Feng Original – Drum Beating}

    Smaaaaaaack!

Instinctively putting up a guard Hector let out a groan and was pushed backward by the piercing punch. Scales of the corpse dragon fell off him.

    “Kuhugh!”

This time Hector charged forward drawing back his fist.

    Fwoooooooooosh!

The air behind Hector grew hot and right before he punched he was forced to look behind him. A Skull Drone was hovering there in midair.

    “This son of a—!”

    Pooooow!

This time Simon kicked Hector in the face with a roundhouse kick.

    ‘Alright it’s working!’

Simon’s battle with the Skull Drones was the definition of stylish.

He fought Hector with combat dark magic and blasted spells at him using Skull Drones everywhere.

If Hector paid attention to the fireballs Simon would strike. But if he focused on Simon the fireballs would become the problem.

He had no way of defending against the six-way assault.

    So he stopped defending.

    “Bastard!”

A tremendous aura filled Hector’s eyes. He threw up his arms with enough force to rip off the scales hanging from his skin shooting them out like buckshot..

    Pshk! Slice!

A Skull Drone was ripped to shreds and Simon flinched as the two-way connection sent him the pain of his skull being torn open.

Seeing the opening Hector immediately dashed forward and drove his fist into Simon’s gut.

    Slaaaaaaaam!

Simon barely managed to keep his guard up and block it but the corner of Hector’s mouth twisted up.

“I see. So this is how I’m supposed to fight.”

Hector stepped back and swung his arm. Remains of skeletons he had scattered across the ground in his earlier fights rose to form Bone Spears.

    “Go!”

He sent the Bone Spears at the Skull Drones and Hector himself charged at Simon.

    “Move!”

Taking a moment to control his Skull Drone to dodge the spears Simon faced Hector.

    Dash!

    Pow! Crash!

The two boys exchanged blows furiously then simultaneously stepped back.

Hector tried to raise the Bone Spear again but…

    {Dark Blaze}

    {Dark Blaze}

    {Dark Blaze}

The Skull Drones’ attacks were faster. Hector took a defensive stance covering himself with his dragon wings to block the fireballs.

    “Pant…! Phew!”

Simon regained his position while gasping for breath.

Meanwhile Hector wiped the blood dripping from the corner of his mouth and grinned.

    “Good good good!!”

    This was it.

It didn’t satisfy him since Simon wasn’t at 100% strength but this was exactly how he wanted to feel!

The bastard in front of him was different to just an average student. He was competent enough to be worthy of being broken and crushed.

Hector’s entire body began to bulge and grow.

    The Moore Family’s Dragon Form.

He was now 40% transformed the scales on his skin shifting in place and his wings flapping like a natural extension of his body.

    “I’ll kill you!”

Leaping into the air Hector charged toward another of Simon’s Skull Drones.

    “Not so fast!”

    {Hail Storm}

    Swaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Large chunks of ice suddenly appeared in front of him swirling with deadly force.

Hector had no choice but to land immediately to get out of the way of the Hail Storm.

And so he landed right into a puddle of sticky goo.

    “Nice one Meilyn!”

Rick popping out of nowhere grinned and swung his arms.

    {Poison Whip}

The whip made of poison lashed at Hector. However he destroyed it with a weak breath attack then broke free from the goo with strength alone and took the sky once more.

    “Rick! Meilyn!”

    Cheered Simon in delight.

“Did we make you wait supreme commander?”

Said Meilyn winking. As she and Rick stepped forward to defend Simon Hector frowned.

“Trash bastards! Don’t get in the way of my duel!”

“Are you crazy? Like we care about your duel when our palace is about to be robbed!!”

Jeered Rick. In an instant the situation had turned to 1 vs 3. And it didn’t end there.

    “Simon!”

    “We’re here to help!”

More students from the defending team who had heard Simon’s command were coming one by one. In less than a minute it grew into 1 vs 9.

“Never let that bastard go away.”

Said Rick pulling a net out of his subspace.

“If we defeat him we can turn the tide of the war.”

    “Alright fine.”

Hector’s dragon form progressed further. His face was more reptile than human.

“Come at me all of you. I’ll clean up all this trash on my—!”

    Ka-boooom…!

    Ka-booooooom!

Before he could finish his sentence a volley of cannonballs rained down from the sky. The students of the defending team stepped away in a hurry and someone’s aghast shout was heard.

    “I-It’s Elissa’s Phantom Ships!”

In the distance three translucent Phantom Ships floated in the air.

Soon students from the attacking team began to jump down from the ships joining Hector from behind. The numbers between the students quickly evened out.

    “Hector! We’re here to help!”

“Bwahaha! Isn’t our timing so perfect?”

    ‘…Dammit!’

His allies had no idea just how much they had ruined his plans.

Hector bit his lip. The moment he finally thought he would have a real fight with Simon it turned into a group battle.

He looked back at his allies and scowled

“Simon Polentia is mine. If you lay a hand on him I’ll kill you myself.”

    “G-Got it.”

The two groups of students faced each other ready to fight.

    “Charge!!!”
