    Chapter 345

    Aeon Castle had a transparent barrier that surrounded the entire castle.

    This barrier blocked projectiles and other objects from flying in from outside the castle and the device that maintained this barrier was called the ‘protective stone.’

    “Pant pant.”

    Sprinting in from the inner castle’s walls Simon had just reached where the protective stone was located.

    The large crystal had been completely shattered reduced to rubble. Around it was blood and slain soldiers: signs of a lost battle.

    The Kizen student who had been guarding it had been eliminated as well as the beast-human soldiers under their command.

    ‘Just when did they…’

    Simon was squatting down examining the shattered crystal remains when he suddenly felt a person’s presence behind him.

    {Exhaust}

    A stream of jet-black shot out at him from behind. Quickly turning to dodge it Simon prepared his own curse and turned around.

    “Good reaction time.”

    An unfamiliar Kizen student was approaching him from behind.

    His uniform was caked with mud and blood could be seen running down his body.

    Simon lowered his hand and said

    “Are you the one who destroyed the protective stone?”

    “Correct.”

    It turned out ‘Simon hunting’ wasn’t the only mission that Jule had been assigned with.

    As soon as Jule crossed the outer castle and entered the city it protected he surreptitiously dropped a stone chess piece he was carrying in his pocket.

    A moment later the chess piece stood upright growing larger and shifting into a human form.

    “I’ve decided to focus my studies on gargoyles. I can transform into a statue or stone. Does that explain it?”

    He applied the magic circle he had just conjured to himself and his skin hardened as it turned gray.

    Simon knew that spell: {Statue Form}.

    He didn’t expect to see a dark spell from a question on the midterm exam.

    In the question it talked about how a necromancer in statue form can’t use dark magic but they have a powerful curse immunity and are nearly immune to all physical attacks.

    And above all they become inanimate making it harder to detect the jet-black keeping them disguised. Statue Form was a staple for professional necromancers going undercover.

    “Yeap you’ve been played by Elissa’s strategy all along!”

    Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!

    He dashed in his heavy footsteps echoing throughout the room.

    In response Simon clenched his fists jet-black dyeing his bulging veins.

    ‘How dumb! My body is immune to physical attacks!’

    The student threw a punch with the weight of a literal boulder but Simon dodged it with a light step and instantly positioned himself behind the student’s back.

    ‘This student was already at his limit before we even started.’

    Being low jet-black his back wasn’t covered by the statue form.

    Simon’s fist slammed into his back.

    {Hong Feng Original – Drum Beating}

    Slaaaaaaaaaaaaam!

    The once-cocky opponent flew several meters before crashing into the wall. The sound of the impact overshadowed the sound of a barrier shattering and Simon almost didn’t hear it.

    Almost.

    [Lark Stonebill eliminated.]

    [Defending Team (11/15)]

    [Attacking Team (10/15)]

    “Well done.”

    That student ‘Lark’ had presumably done his job when he destroyed the protective stone.

    As the gargoyle student scattered into thin air Simon’s head turned to the top of the castle.

    ‘The palace is in danger.’

    Simon picked up the supreme commander’s nameplate and gave instructions through the communication channel then started running toward the palace himself.

    * * *

    “A-A… Squeak! A dragon has appeared!”

    “It really is that legendary beast! Flee!”

    In the time Simon finished his short fight chaos had broken loose among the beast-humans defending the inner castle.

    The soldiers of the Aeon Kingdom were in a state of pure fear as they watched the ‘Corpse Dragon’ whose entire body was covered in dark scales flap its huge wings and take flight.

    With every thunderous roar that boomed across the skies more and more soldiers dropped their weapons and ran for their lives.

    The black dragon flew slowly above the castle destroying important equipment and routing soldiers before finally reaching the top of Aeon Castle.

    Looking down on the palace from above the dragon’s jaw gaped open.

    {Dragon Breath}

    Fwooooooooooooooosh!

    A black sphere shot out and slammed into the palace.

    Accompanied by a loud bang a huge explosion shook the entire castle. Stone fragments rained down.

    The dragon frowned as it observed the damage.

    ‘…As expected.’

    The palace itself was indestructible.

    To kill the king he would have to shrink to a smaller size and enter the palace himself.

    The black dragon landed on the ground. Its long reptilian snout compressed into itself a human face forming in the folds of skin and the scales began to dangle off of its now-pink skin.

    The Moore family’s unique power to transform into a corpse dragon.

    Looking now like he was wearing the remains of a dragon Hector trudged toward the palace.

    Thunk!

    Just then the palace gate burst open and beast-human soldiers in plate armor rushed out.

    Clang!

    Shiiing!

    They drew their swords and raised them at Hector.

    “We’re the Royal Knights squeak!”

    “Squeak! Squeak! You evil guardian of the Khan Kingdom leave! Squeak!”

    Irritated a vein popped out on Hector’s forehead.

    “Don’t order me around NPC bastards.”

    “Squeak Squeak! Attack!”

    “Aeum Aeon!!”

    All the knights charged in with a roar. Hector clicked his tongue in annoyance and opened his subspace.

    “Fight morons.”

    Skeletons fell out from his subspace.

    As soon as the skeletons left the subspace their bodies disassembled before reforming into straight lines.

    {Bone Spear}

    Hector pulled his arm back yawning. Bone Spears floated around him in the air then shot forward cutting through the air.

    Pshk! Pshk! Pshk!

    The flying Bone Spears pierced through plate armor with ease each one killing a ratman knight. But even with their allies dying helplessly around them the knights did not back down.

    If anything seeing just how much danger their king was in only made them more determined.

    Shk.

    Hector reached his finger out. A scarlet curse flew from his fingertips connecting to the knight charging from the front and his four companions behind him like a line.

    “Haaaaaaah!”

    The leading knight swung his sword aiming for a gap in the scales resting on Hector’s skin but…

    Clang!

    Hector’s scales moved on their own and blocked the sword.

    “N-No way!”

    Leering down on the knight with his towering stature Hector raised his fist. The knight trembled in fear as the giant covered him in shadow.

    Thud!

    Hector’s fist slammed into the knight’s helmet. The helmet and skull crunched together and the knight fell to the ground. At the same time the four knights linked to him by the curse collapsed with the same sickening crunch.

    “I’m a necromancer. And you’re just flies.”

    Poooow!

    Hector cracked open a knight’s breastplate with a simple kick killing the ratman instantly.

    Then he clicked his fingers and the bone spears reassembled in the sky. They soon rained down like a storm killing knights in the dozens.

    “If you wanna stop me then…”

    With a quick spin the dragon wings on his back sharpened like blades slicing through the approaching knights.

    “Bring Simon Polentia at least!”

    Every time Hector even moved knights died.

    It had taken Hector only five minutes to annihilate the elite Royal Knights of the Aeon Kingdom.

    “You guys are barely a warm-up.”

    Snorted Hector as he strode toward the palace.

    {Exhaust}

    A curse shot out from the side. Hector formed ‘cancellation’ in his right hand and swung it to parry the curse away.

    “I can’t let you in the palace Hector Moore!”

    Before Hector knew it a student from the defending team was coming up the stairs. She activated an array of magic circles she had launched in the air.

    {Exhaust}

    {Blind}

    {Faint}

    Hector stepped to the side with a nonchalant face dodging the curses or conjuring cancellations to negate them.

    For the last curse he gathered jet-black in his fist and released it just in time to shatter it.

    “…I-Impossible!”

    The student’s face stiffened. This time Hector was the one to cast his own curse.

    {Strangle}

    Panicked she pressed her palms together to form a ‘cancellation’ but Hector’s curse went straight through the magic circle and attached to her neck.

    “Kuhugh!”

    She fell down on her place clutching her throat. Tears formed in her eyes as pained coughs racked her body.

    “You’re… terrible.”

    Hector lowered his arm in apathy.

    “Obsessing over how quickly you can rapid-fire shit curses only works in the middle-lower squads. Anyone who has even stepped a toe into the upper squads won’t be bested by such garbage.”

    “Get back Pengel!”

    This time the entrance to the palace was blocked by a curly-haired student. Hector’s face was a tapestry of different forms of anger.

    “I don’t need another small fry like you. Bring Simon Polentia!”

    “Sorry but Simon’s a little busy!”

    The new student smirked and activated a magic circle in his palm.

    {Blood Silk} a basic skill in hemomancy. The silk made of blood covered the student’s body.

    “Don’t worry I can handle you on my own!”

    ‘A hemomancer this time huh?’

    Hector waited with a cold expression. The Blood Silk covering the student twisted and bunched up into layers closely protecting his entire body.

    {Blood Robe}

    The student had finished casting his dark spell and charged at Hector.

    Only then did Hector bother sharpening the scales on his body flinging them forward.

    Pshk! Pshk! Pshk!

    Of course the student’s Blood Robe blocked all the scale bullets perfectly.

    “I’m sorry but this is my original dark spell!”

    Swish!

    The hemomancer swung his fist so Hector leisurely moved to the side to dodge the punch. But as he moved the Blood Robe swelled up and turned into thorns stabbing into Hector.

    ‘I did it…!’

    Hector’s expression became ice cold.

    “How ridiculous… It’s all garbage!”

    {Hong Feng Original – Roaring River}

    Without any complicated movements or calculations Hector simply slammed his fist into the student’s armored gut.

    “Kuhugh!”

    The strike weaved past the Blood Robe and slammed directly into the boy’s body.

    Blegh!

    The boy’s stomach immediately tried to empty itself but there was nothing in it after the long day of fighting so he kept heaving while clutching his stomach.

    “Original my ass.”

    Striding towards the pathetic mess before him Hector punched the disappointment in the face.

    Thud!

    “Every man and his dog claims to be original after making a few tweaks to the actual skill.”

    Crush!

    “Because they expel only 50 people at a time”

    Slaaaaaaaaaaaaam!

    “trash at the bottom of the barrel like you think you actually belong here.”

    Pooooooooooow!

    Hector was now beating the student with his bare fists not even using a drop of jet-black to break through the defenses. Eventually the Blood Robe lifted and the only thing protecting him was his barrier.

    He lifted his hands as if begging.

    “P-Please st—!”

    Crack!

    Hector kicked the male student’s jaw. His eyes rolled back into his skull and he fell limply to the ground.

    [Emans Florence eliminated.]

    [Defending Team (10/15)]

    [Attacking Team (10/15)]

    “Annoying worthless bastards…!”

    As he muttered that under his breath Hector swung his arm without even looking to the side.

    Shatter!

    After easily destroying the curse with a cancellation when he turned his head the first student who had been called Pengel earlier was standing there as she gasped for breath.

    “A trash curser is still a curser huh? You lifted my Strangle.”

    Hector stepped closer like the grim reaper. But even as she trembled Pengel kept her hands open in front of her her bloodshot eyes glued on Hector.

    “Haaaaaaah!”

    A flurry curses shot out from her fingertips. However Hector parried them away or shattered them with a flick of his arm.

    When she ran out of prepared curses she stepped back with a look of horror on her face.

    “In the end you’re just doing the same shitty trick. I guess you’re just another old dog.”

    As Hector stepped forward a crater formed around his foot and he charged in.

    The distance between them was closed in an instant.

    ‘He fell for it!’

    Pengel smirked.

    Hector passed right through her blurred body.

    ‘Dammit Etherealization!’

    She whirled around and hugged Hector whose back was now to her.

    {Banshee’s Embrace}

    A dark spell that only worked when holding the target took effect turning Hector’s body gray and stopping his movement altogether.

    “Too bad. Actually I’m not a curser. I come from a banshee family.”

    The whole time she had been pretending to be a curser for the sake of making this single opening. Pengel’s major was actually Necromancy.

    “Banshee’s Embrace stops not only the movement of the embraced but thought itself.”

    She said as she poked Hector’s cheek. Hector’s huge physique made her look like a cicada hanging off of an oak tree.

    “Well then let’s see how I should finish off the immobilized young master of the Moore famil—”

    Pshk! Pshk! Pshk! Pshk! Pshk!

    Her eyes shook as pain signals tore through her back.

    Before she knew it Hector’s scales had impaled themselves into her back like shurikens.

    “Ah…!”

    Her mind went empty with pain. Her concentration crumbled and focus returned to Hector’s eyes.

    “It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Curses or Necromancy aspirant.”

    Grab.

    Hector held Pengel’s head with one hand and lifted her up.

    “A-Agggghhhhh!”

    “It was obvious that you were going to play some petty tricks when I got close.”

    Hector realized that his opponent was up to something after seeing her so obsessed with firing a series of curses. As much as there was still trash left in Kizen anyone that stupid would’ve been expelled back in the first semester.

    So he placed jet-black in his scales positioned them behind him and made sure they would return to him after a period of time if he didn’t control them.

    “Get out of my sight.”

    Crush!

    Crack!

    Her barrier gauge was starting to plummet from the monstrous strength of Hector’s grip.

    Just then…

    “!”

    The sole of a shoe suddenly appeared in Hector’s face.

    Slaaaaaaaaaam!

    Hector barely managed to raise his other hand to guard.

    He was pushed backward and a boy landed on the ground with Pengel in his arms.

    Finally…

    A monster’s grin could be seen in Hector’s pearly white teeth displaying uncontainable joy.

    “I was just thinking about how fucking badly I’ve missed beating the shit out you Simon Polentia!!”

    Simon carefully set Pengel down on the ground and stood up.

    His eyes burned with anger.
