    Chapter 344

As Jule entered this final showdown against Simon he recalled a conversation he had with Elissa.

“If you’ve cornered Simon to use his royal bodyguards you’ve succeeded. Just run away.”

Hearing that Jule shook his head.

“I refuse. I want a fight with Simon. I’ll fight with dignity and return victorious.”

“Gosh! You really aren’t thinking like a necromancer.”

Elissa eventually revealed the strategy to win against Simon.

“You see isn’t the anti-summoner tactic pretty much the same everywhere? Avoid the summons as much as possible and go for the summoner first. But this kind of strategy doesn’t work against Simon as he excels at combat dark magic too.”

    “Then what do you suggest?”

“Aim for the skeletons that have turned into royal bodyguards.”

    Elissa’s eyes shone.

“I heard that Simon and his royal bodyguards are connected. It’s something to do with a blood golem being used as its base but I don’t really know how it works. Anyway! If you destroy the royal bodyguards it’ll also hurt him.”

The royal bodyguards were Simon’s greatest strength yet they were also his greatest weakness.

    That was what Elissa revealed.

    “Go.”

At Simon’s command the 23 scattered royal bodyguards charged towards Jule simultaneously.

    “Hm.”

When Jule calmly gripped the handle of his cursed sword its ability activated.

Without him seeming to move a muscle a red slash appeared in a circle around him blocking the royal bodyguard’s charge. Three skeletons were unable to dodge and they were slashed apart by the attack.

    “!”

Then Simon who was far away clutched his chest in pain.

Upon closer inspection Jule realized Simon had been damaged in the same place as the royal bodyguards.

‘As expected Elissa’s analysis was right.’

But Simon wasn’t just gonna stay still and let himself get hurt. A royal bodyguard that dived over the slash rolled up and thrusted at Jule with its own sword.

Jule swiftly tilted his head to dodge but the emerald sword suddenly cut down from the side striking his barrier.

    ‘They’re fast!’

It was hard to believe that such a swift movement came from a skeleton.

Jule noticing he was surrounded burst past the barrier. Belatedly the 20 remaining bodyguards followed after him.

He had to take care of them one at a time.

As he ran Jule jumped up placing his feet on the wall of a nearby brick house and then springing back toward his pursuers.

His target was the royal bodyguard in front of him.

    ‘One.’

Jung swung his scabbard and the royal bodyguard raised its sword to block.

    Claaaaaaaaaash!

However by the time the scabbard connected two more swords had appeared. Royal bodyguards took position on both sides of the lone one Jule aimed for strengthening the defense.

    Slash!

    Slash!

Barely a moment later two more bodyguards had gotten behind him and used the opening to strike.

His barrier gauge dropped considerably. He couldn’t take much more of those.

    ‘They’re extremely well coordinated.’

Simon had to control all 20 skeletons yet there was not a single blind spot.

The twenty swords moved like one yet again encircling Jule. Emerald slashes cut down from all directions dyeing the sky green.

‘If I stay surrounded I’ll lose!’

Jule gave up on facing the royal bodyguards head-on and instead used his range to his advantage.

Each time he clutched the handle of his cursed sword as he ran a royal bodyguard was cut in two and Simon cringed in pain.

‘Your royal bodyguards are indeed powerful. Once you activate it even the most skilled students in Kizen wouldn’t stand a chance. However!”

Jule grabbed the handle of his cursed sword and planted the scabbard into the ground.

‘For me you’ve just given me more targets to strike!’

    {Golden Wheel}

Seven strikes streaked across the ground centered around the grounded scabbard.

Several more royal bodyguards fell and this time Simon fell to a knee with a thud.

‘To wield this cursed sword I have given up many things.’

It wasn’t obvious when he wore his school uniform but Jule’s torso was covered with six soul binding magic circles.

A cursed sword was not to be wielded lightly.

He lost an eye his sense of taste and all hopes at rest. Each night he moaned in pain and nightmares haunted him every day.

Even as a necromancer other areas of dark magic such as curses summoning and hemomancy were practically sealed off. All that remained for Jule was this cursed sword.

While other students learned from their professors all Jule learned was sacrifice.

That was Jule’s only way of becoming stronger.

    ‘I want to know!’

Another royal bodyguard collapsed shattered by a strike from the cursed sword. Simon’s face became pale.

‘How far can I reach with this cursed sword?! This blade that had me forsake what made me human!!’

As Jules was beginning to adjust to the tactics deployed by the royal bodyguards Simon made a drastic change too.

    Shk. Ssshhhk.

The turquoise drained away from some of the royal bodyguards reverting to piles of bones on the ground.

In an instant the number of royal bodyguards had been cut down to five. Simon had reduced his numbers going for quality over quantity.

    ‘Clearly a mistake!’

To give up the summoner’s greatest advantage numbers!

There was no reason to hesitate any longer. Jule charged straight for the summoner.

But even as Simon gasped for breath he made a faint smile.

    “I suppose that’s common sense but…”

One of the royal bodyguards stepped in between Simon and Jule.

    “When the numbers are reduced…”

Another royal bodyguard came flying down from the sky and cut straight down with its sword. Jule was pushed down into the ground as he blocked the strike with a clang.

    “The control can drastically increase.”

Jule ran sideways thrusting his scabbard but the royal bodyguard in front of Simon simply tilted its head to dodge before counterattacking. Jule had to stop all of his momentum to not get cut in half.

    “Hmph!”

Jule immediately grabbed the handle of his cursed sword.

    Slaaaaaaaaaash!

The straight line of the cursed sword’s unseen slash stretched out cutting the skies but the royal bodyguards simply ducked half a second before he attacked.

    ‘No way!’

The sword strike whistled through empty air stopping once it hit a random piece of rubble close behind them all. The entire area was blanketed in dust from the sheer force in that strike.

Soon five emerald sword strikes glowed through the dust and sliced into Jule’s barrier.

    “Kugghh!”

The battle was fierce a firework-display of light filling the air every time the five emerald blades connected with the cursed sword’s scabbard.

One royal bodyguard stepped back rearing its sword back before quickly sending it crashing sidewards at Jule. Another leaped through the air threatening to drop down and skewer Jule skull to foot.

The third one faced Jule’s attacks upfront forcing the swordsman to focus only on it. Then the final two pulled around the back of Jule as they slashed at his exposed back.

Jule’s barrier gauge turned red as wounds appeared all over his body.

‘If it’s come to this there’s only one way out!’

Jule charged at Simon ignoring the royal bodyguards. Then he grabbed the scabbard with both hands holding it in front of his face.

    Click.

    ‘!’

    Seeing this Simon’s eyes widened.

For the first time although it was not fully Jule’s scabbard had opened.

A red blade glistened in the light as the scabbard was finally cracked open.

However although Jule was facing forward as he sprinted at Simon his eyes were pointed at the royal bodyguards behind him.

    ‘Don’t tell me!’

Simon gave an absolute order to all of the royal bodyguards but it was certainly too late.

    {Four Wheel}

    Slaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaash!

Four sword strikes spun behind Jule rotating endlessly in a wheel of death. In the blink of an eye it passed through Simon’s clever formation and…

    Only destruction remained.

Simon’s eyes lost their light and he coughed up blood as he slammed into the ground.

    “You were a tough foe.”

His cursed sword still slightly drawn Jule suddenly held his sword fully drawn from its scabbard as if the world had suddenly flipped to the next page.

    Thud!

He dropped the scabbard and dashed at Simon with his cursed sword raised the tip aimed at Simon’s neck.

    “!”

Simon’s eyes regained light just then and he swerved out of the way of the attack. As he swung around Simon planted his palm on Jule’s stomach.

    {Simon Original – Candle Blowing}

    Ka-toooooooosh!

A wavelength of energy ran out from his palm sent Jule flying backward.

    “How… are you still alive?”

    Jule looked behind him.

Four of the five royal bodyguards he’d slashed down earlier were sprinting toward him unscathed.

    “Of course…”

Soon with a fierce flash of light the royal bodyguards dashed past Jule who was still barreling through the air.

As they stopped their swords held behind them…

    Slash! Slash! Slash! Slash!

Four sword slashes flashed into existence and struck his back. The barrier covering Jule glowed red reaching its limit.

    “…that’s because you missed.”

Simon gasped for breath as he watched his foe’s demise.

    Thud!

Jule tumbled to the ground. He looked up at Simon groaning.

“How in the world did you…?!”

“You didn’t slash the royal bodyguards.”

Simon realized from how Jule’s eyes were looking backward as he made his final move that he was targeting the royal bodyguards.

So he predicted the sword’s path and with an absolute order he disassembled the skeletons allowing the sword to pass between the bones. If he had been a millimeter off it would’ve spelled instant defeat.

    Hearing this Jule was shocked.

“Y-You mean you predicted exactly where I would slash and made a gap precisely there?”

“Yeap. You don’t have full control of your cursed sword yet do you?”

The cursed sword seemed to be out of Jule’s control from the moment it was drawn from its scabbard. As the fight drew on Simon confirmed that Jule could only suggest its direction and he was also unaware of what happened in the missing time.

At last Jule let out a short snort as he smirked.

    “It’s my total defeat.”

    Click. Click. Click.

Jule closed his eyes as he watched the bodies of the royal bodyguards disassemble into bones in midair at Simon’s command transforming into Bone Nails.

“I’ll challenge you when I’m in better shape next time.”

‘…I would rather not accept that challenge.’

Even from Simon’s perspective Jule was a necromancer he simply didn’t want to go against.

He was one of the strongest foes he had faced recently.

    “It was a good match.”

Simon drew a downward line with his arm and countless Bone Nails shattered what little remained of Jule’s barrier.

    [Jule Vincere eliminated.]

    [Defending Team (12/15)]

    [Attacking Team (11/15)]

His body completely vanished from the battlefield

At the same time in front of the north gate.

    “Attack! Attack! Press further!”

Elissa the supreme commander of the attacking team was directing the siege on the north gate by herself.

    Then a message popped up.

    [Jule Vincere eliminated.]

    “Hmm.”

Despite losing a key attacking team member she didn’t seem too bothered.

“Well done Jule. We’ll make sure not to put your sacrifice in vain.”

Then she raised the nameplate in her hand and said

“Lark you got in safely right? Destroy it.”

    * * *

While Simon and Jule were fighting fiercely the siege had transformed completely.

All of the Aeon Kingdom’s troops had now retreated to the inner castle and the Khan Kingdom soldiers had completely taken over the outer castle.

As the battle fiercely went on good news arrived.

That Jule the S.A.5 had been eliminated.

“Woah! I can’t believe Jule was eliminated so early!”

    “Good good!”

“Don’t let your guards down everyone!”

Everyone was cheering in celebration. Except for Meilyn who was still incredibly focused. She was coating the walls with ice making the soldiers who tried to scale the brick slip and fall to their deaths.

“We must keep them out of here until the timer runs out!”

    “I know I know.”

    “But it’s really stable here.”

In the outer castle they had to worry about the constant rain of enemy arrows. Comparatively the inner castle was quite secure thanks to the higher walls.

Whether they tried climbing the walls or breaking down the gates it wouldn’t be easy for the enemy to get in. The key defensive points had also been cut in half so the students could save their jet-black.

“Way to go way to go!”

Rick clapped and encouraged his allies.

“Everyone! We just have to keep this u—!”

[The protection stone has been destroyed.]

    [Dewey Norman eliminated.]

    A sudden message.

Soon the transparent magical barrier that covered the entire inner castle began to lift.

    “Huh?”

“What? The inner castle was protected so when did they—!”

    Flap…

    Flap…

Everyone’s eyes turned to the sky.

A black dragon with massive wings soared above them.
