    Chapter 342

[The north gate of the outer castle has been breached.]

[Fall of the Outer Castle event occurred.]

[All troops of the Aeon kingdom are retreating to the inner castle.]

“Run! The bastards of Khan Kingdom are coming!”

    “Squeak squeak!”

Being pursued the soldiers of the Aeon kingdom squealed as they fled. The path inwards was filled with soldiers who were bleeding or wounded by arrows.

Simon and Rick were running around in that chaotic scene.

“To the inner castle! Fall back to the inner castle!”

“The south gate is still standing!”

    The situation was dire.

The Khan Kingdom’s supreme commander Elissa had led her strongest forces to break through the divided defenses going after the north gate of the outer castle and rapidly accelerating the siege.

However not being satisfied with just breaking through the outer castle Elissa ordered her cavalry troops to push through cutting down all who fled to the inner castle’s north gate.

The inner city only had two gates the north and south gates. With the north gate threatened by Elissa all the soldiers of Aeon Kingdom who needed to retreat to the inner castle were crowding through the south gate creating a severe traffic jam.

“No seriously! The more I think about it the more I don’t understand!”

Said Rick furiously scratching his head.

“There’s literally four people at the north gate! It’s stronger than the south gate which we’re in charge of! How did they get in even before the messenger arrived?”

Simon silently pondering on it for a moment concluded

“It seems like they have more strong people at the level of Elissa.”

As expected from a daughter of a political family she was very methodical. She likely already assembled a team of strong fighters days in advance.

“Hmm that’s a pain in the ass but it does make sense. If two or three S.A.-level students showed up at the north gate then…”

As they were speaking Simon and Rick saw soldiers of the Khan Kingdom in front of them. They were chasing after what remained of a Aeon Kingdom platoon.

“Ssshhhk! Kill them all! Leave not a single one left alive!”

“Shk! Shk! Don’t let them get to the inner castle!”

Being overwhelmingly outnumbered as the defenders every soldier was precious.

Simon and Rick nodded to each other and rushed to help their allies.

“By the way Simon! Don’t you have to conserve your jet-black? Do you wanna borrow a sword?”

Said Rick handing over his enchanted sword.

“Combat dark magic will be enough for me though.”

“Dude combat dark magic uses quite a lot of jet-black too.”

In the end Simon took the sword. When he gave it a few practice swings the grip felt fine but it felt like it was missing something.

    “Do you have any greatswords?”

“I do but do you even know how to use a greatsword? They’re so damn hard.”

    “Somewhat yeah.”

Rick hesitantly pulled a greatsword out of his subspace. It was the smallest size among the greatswords he had but Simon liked the weight of it.

    “Alright let’s go!”

    “Okay!”

Jet-black exploded under Simon’s and Rick’s feet simultaneously as they leaped into the hordes of the Khan Kingdom who were slaughtering their allies like livestock.

“Shk! Some strange bastards are coming!”

    “It’s the Aeon guardians!”

Taking the lead Simon’s eyes gleamed. Moving like a chariot he slammed into the enemy lines swinging his greatsword with all his might.

It was like watching bowling and the Khan soldiers were the pins. Quickly their formation was shattered as beastmen flew in every direction.

    “Hah!”

Rick flying through the air right behind Simon plunged his enchanted sword between the gaps in a soldier’s helmet.

Landing on the falling corpse he pulled his sword back out and expertly used his momentum to go further and further into the enemy formation his sword a flurry of well-placed stabs.

    Whiiiiiiiiiish!

On the other hand Simon’s greatsword skills were much more extravagant.

Striding through the enemy lines while wielding the gigantic greatsword as if it were an extension of his own arms he dominated the battlefield. The once-threatening Khan Kingdom beastmen flinched with every swing and didn’t dare to fight against him.

    “Ssshhhk! Don’t back down!”

The lieutenant leading the platoon stepped out and jumped at Simon. So with one motion Simon lifted his greatsword to parry the desperate strike and stepped forward.

    Claaaaang!

His opponent’s sword arced upward across the blade of his greatsword leaving the lieutenant defenseless. So when Simon drew closer a single slash spelled the sorry soldier’s end.

“Woah Simon! What just was that?!”

Said Rick having barely beaten down a veteran soldier after a hard-fought battle.

“You can’t say that’s ‘somewhat’ proficient with a greatsword? Did your dad teach you how to use a greatsword in your hometown?”

    “No the greatsword…”

Replied Simon as he skillfully and effortlessly deflected an incoming thrust spear then cut down the person on the other end of it.

    “…is just self-taught.”

“Hey now cut the crap! If you’ve been practicing so much how come I’ve never seen you use a greatsword before?!!”

    “I’m being honest.”

    Whoosh! Whoosh!

Soldiers fell like autumn leaves as Simon swung his greatsword. Rick who usually used a sword didn’t let himself fall behind either.

    “Pant!”

    “Haah!”

Simon and Rick saw another group of enemies and charged. With two swings of their swords two enemy soldiers fell.

    “Th-They’re strong! Sshhk!”

“Fall back! We need our own guardian here too!”

In the end the pursuers of the Khan Kingdom began to flee. Simon and Rick chased after them securing an escape route for their allies.

“To the inner castle! Retreat to the inner castle! The south gate is still open!”

    “Please hurry!”

Just when Simon chased down the last enemy while keeping his allies under control…

    “Simon! Duck!”

At Rick’s shout Simon quickly dropped to the ground. Some black flash flew above his head and slammed into the wall behind him.

    ‘A curse!’

When Simon looked up in horror he saw a Kizen student with a skull necklace around his neck on the battlements. Curse after curse were fired from his fingertips.

    “It’s a curser! Take cover!”

Simon and Rick kept low as they ran for cover. A myriad of colors chased after them from the wide variety of curses used but they all slammed uselessly into walls.

“What a pain in the ass!”

Rick cast a spell of his own.

    {Exhaust}

Black smoke flashed from his fingertips and shot out but the curser quickly ducked behind the castle wall. The tracking in Rick’s curse made it hit the castle wall and it disappeared.

Immediately after the curser poked his head out and fired another curse.

    “Woah!”

Rick got hit by that curse and rolled to the ground.

    “Rick!”

    “Aaaaaaagh! Shit! What’s this!”

Rick began scratching his entire body furiously. Red spots started appearing all over his skin.

    “I got one.”

The curser who had neutralized Rick smiled creepily and looked at Simon this time. At this point Simon was also drawing a curse on his palm with the hand that wasn’t holding a greatsword.

Their curses were completed almost simultaneously.

    {Tickle}

    {Sickness}

As the two boys fired at the same time their curses flew past each other through the air.

Simon easily dodged it by tilting his head but…

‘How can it be this fast?!’

Flying at a speed that Rick’s Exhaust couldn’t hold a candle to the Sickness curse grazed the foe’s shoulder.

    ‘Kugh!’

As the curser staggered and fell to a knee Simon quickly carried Rick up onto his shoulders and ran.

    “I’m not letting you go!”

The curser ran after Simon preparing a curse and firing it.

    “!”

However his vision started spinning after only a couple of steps and he ended up losing balance completely as he ended up sprawled on the ground. Seeing this his Khan allies rushed over to him.

    “Sshhk! Guardian!”

    “Are you alright?? Shk!”

    Tremble.

The curser pushed himself up again trying to show he was okay but…

    “Bleeeeeaaaaaaaaaarghh!”

He couldn’t help but puke out his insides. The soldiers quickly backed away a few steps.

“Rick hold on a little longer!”

Simon laid Rick down in an empty house and drew a magic circle.

    “Aaaaaaaaaaaah…!”

Rick was frantically scratching himself with his fingernails and soon it was hard to tell whether the red was from the curse or his own nails.

Calmly completing a magic circle Simon held it up to Rick’s body and activated it.

    {Cancellation}

Dark blue light flowed across Rick’s body and slowly his involuntary itching began to cease. Rick’s arms went slack from fatigue as the rashes quickly subsided.

“…Whew I really thought I was gonna die. It was a two-stack curse.”

    Simon held out his hand.

“Do you think you can keep going?”

    “Of course.”

Rick took Simon’s hand and stood up.

When they got out of the house they had taken shelter in the situation had somewhat stabilized. Other Kizen students on the defending team were busy helping the soldiers retreat.

Simon gave instructions with his supreme commander’s nameplate.

“Keep the south gate of the inner castle open as long as we can and let in the retreating soldiers! Meilyn don’t stay on the outer castle too long. You might get surrounded. The rest of you please focus on defending against enemy soldiers coming through the breached gates!”

Simon and Rick decided to move to the inner castle as well.

Another castle wall soon appeared in front of them as they moved through the residential area. It was much taller than the outer castle and made of thicker bricks.

“The inner castle must be defended at all costs even if it means the annihilation of every last soldier we have.”

    Said Rick.

“The moment the Khan Kingdom breaks through the inner castle they’ll take the stairs and head directly to the palace. If they destroy the ‘protection stone’ in the middle Elissa will attack from the sky with her phantom shit. That’s the worst-case scenario for us.”

The two ran toward the castle wall as they talked.

The traffic was still jammed at the south gate so soldiers already inside the inner castle laid down ladders in safe areas and let their allied soldiers climb them. It was a pretty good idea.

Simon and Rick were waiting in line too.

    “Rick you go up first.”

“Got it. I’ll see you up there.”

Rick climbed the ladder and Simon kept watch from the ground. He hoped to give the soldiers time to climb if pursuers raided them.

    “Squeak! Stop the pursuers!”

The fleeing soldiers had organized themselves into formations and were setting defensive lines in front of the castle wall breaking down nearby buildings to create log barriers.

The Khan Kingdom had a strong cavalry so the defenders dug small trenches in front of the log barriers and positioned obstacles to disrupt a charge.

    “Squeak! Who are you!”

As they worked someone was walking in front of the defense line of the determined soldiers.

“Stop squeak! If you move any closer our archers will shoot!”

Dozens upon dozens of bows were drawn and aimed at the stranger but he didn’t stop walking. Then they saw the man placing his hand on the sword hilt at his waist.

    ‘What’s going on?’

    Simon also stepped forward.

    Claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang!

Immediately he doubted his own eyes at the sight unfolding right in front of him.

All those log barriers obstacles and loyal soldiers were slashed in half.

‘The whole defense line in a single slash?’

Simon stared straight ahead nervousness clear on his face.

    Step. Step.

The stranger drew closer and closer. It was a boy with an eye patch over one eye.

“Woah! He was on the attacking team?”

Looking at the boy Rick shouted at Simon

“Simon! Elissa wasn’t the problem! That guy is—!”

    Slaaaaaaaaaaaaash!

A long line was drawn on the castle wall of the inner castle. A ladder on the wall was slashed in half sending all the soldiers on it crashing down to the ground.

    “Woah!”

Rick fell to the ground as well. Simon’s eyes widened as he saw the boy’s movements.

    Dash!

While Simon was still recovering from his surprise the boy moved so fast he vanished.

Simon raised the greatsword in his hand up in front of him.

    Claaaaaaaaaaaaang!

    Not a moment too soon.

A longsword appeared in the air and clashed with Simon’s greatsword. An explosive roar shook the battlefield.

    ‘Kugh!’

The shock was so strong that his wrists felt like they were about to fall off.

Simon turned to face the boy who had suddenly appeared in front of him.

    “We’ve met before haven’t we?”

    “We have.”

    Answered the boy.

He was Jule Vincere Special Admission No.5

    “My condition today…”

Oddly he swung his sword while it was still sheathed.

Jule took a step back angling the handle upward as he brought the sheathed blade back under his sash.

    “…isn’t so bad.”

    “!”

Simon immediately bent all the way back. A huge slash that seemed to cut through the entire inner castle cut diagonally down right above him leaving a long scar on the wall.

    ‘…Woah.’

Cold sweat broke out on Simon’s forehead.

This guy was on a whole other level compared to the opponents he had fought up until now.
