Necromancer Academy’s Genius Summoner – 341

Chapter 341
‘I’m maintaining a pretty good pace.’
Simon’s skeleton-mage operation was all about efficiency.
He tossed oil fruit that he got from the warehouse to coat the ground with flammable liquid then set it all ablaze with fire spells from his mages preventing the enemy from reaching the gate itself.
The Khan Kingdom’s response changed as Simon’s fire persisted for far longer than the enemy’s expectations.
They adapted. For example they tried to pour dirt over the burning flames to extinguish them and layed soaked cowhides over their battle rams.
But Simon’s defense with his undead mages was impenetrable.
Left without a choice the Khan Kingdom abandoned the gates and focused on attacking the castle walls as much as possible.
They brought in all their siege ladders and placed them on the walls sending soldiers up constantly. They even sent two guardians two Kizen students up the wall. And due to that the Khan Kingdom almost captured the southern wall.
Almost.
“Follow me!”
Rick now free of the curses led his soldiers and reclaimed the battlements that the Khan Kingdom momentarily occupied.
Thanks to him taking an active role the entire defense line of the south gate stabilized once more.
‘I’m not so worried about the south gate anymore.’
Watching the situation Simon held up the supreme commander’s nameplate and sent a message.
“Rick and Meilyn you’ve done a good job. Rest until more necromancers show up. And other gates do the same. Rotate shifts to allow for rests in this ongoing battle. If you need reinforcements send a messenger or raise a flag.”
Just then he heard footsteps approaching. Simon turned around to see Meilyn approaching.
“Ah Meilyn! Thank you for your hard work!”
“Hmph this is barely even work for me.”
Said Meilyn smugly running her fingers through her hair. Simon pointed to the brazer draped over her shoulders.
“Isn’t that mine?”
“!”
Meilyn’s neck turned bright red belatedly realizing she hadn’t taken the blazer off.
“…Ah yeah. Thanks.”
She handed over Simon’s jacket with a small thank you.

It was only with her for a short moment but it was fun.
Simon dusted off the blazer before putting it back on.
“Oh.”
“Why? Is there something on it?”
“No it just smells like you Meilyn.”
‘$*@^&@!!!!’
Her face fully red Meilyn shrieked before stuttering out
“I-It can’t be helped! I was wearing it for a while! What? What is it?! Do you want me to return it after washing it?!!”
“No no I didn’t mean it like that.”
Simon held up the Kizen blazer and examined it. He saw a red spot on the jacket and thought it might’ve been blood but it turned out to be a lipstick stain.
“…Why is this here?”
‘Ah!! Aggghhh!!!’
Meilyn remembered burrowing her face into Simon’s uniform and sniffing it. Reaching her limit of embarrassment she slapped her cheeks and forced herself to snap out of it.
“Th-That’s!”
‘I need to say something! Anything!’
She shouted a bit too loud
“I tripped!!”
“Hm?”
“While fighting earlier I tripped so I used your school uniform to wipe my face clean! Understand? I’ll pay for the laundry!”
Even Meilyn thought that it was such a lame excuse.
In fact she regretted saying it. She wanted to take the words back right away. Of course she can’t sell such a boldfaced lie!! She should’ve thought things through for once…
“I see. Are you hurt?”
But Simon believed it completely.
Although he was talking to Meilyn all of his attention was focused on the castle gate. Even now he was connected to the thoughts of the skeleton mages.
‘Dark Blaze starting from the right in order!’
Simon smiled in satisfaction as dark blue fireballs incinerated a charging battle ram approaching the gate.
‘Wh-Why is he smiling all of a sudden!’
On the other hand Meilyn was extremely tense and was breathing heavily.
‘Is he smiling at me? Does that mean anything? Is it something like “I know what you did with my school uniform but I’ll let it slide for now” or what?’
While her imagination ran wild trying to figure out the meaning of Simon’s smile Simon spoke again.
“Get some rest. I think I can handle the south gate by myself for the time being.”
“…Uh yeah.”
Meilyn nodded sheepishly turning to leave before looking back to read Simon’s expression. Then she said in a really tiny voice
“Hey sorry about how I talked so big about your efficiency back in the—”
“If it wasn’t for your advice…”
Interrupted Simon.
“I would’ve never thought of playing a long game like this. Thank you Meilyn.”

‘This guy… Honestly.’
He was simply too good of a person.
‘Well as group leader I do appreciate that sincerity…’
“Oh that reminds me. How was my idea of tying a note to an arrow?”
Asked Simon out of the blue.
“Ah that was clever. Thanks. I made use of it pretty well.”
“I’m glad. I was worried the whole time that you may’ve missed it.”
Meilyn chuckled before looking up into the sky. The sun was in a completely different position to when they started.
“How long has it been already?”
“Four hours.”
They had to hold on for twelve hours and they had eight left to go.
Four hours had flown by without realizing it.
Of course this time was only true within the world of cards and Rick had mentioned that only three hours will pass when the siege ends and they step outside.
“Well then Simon I’m going to go charge up some jet-black.”
“Good luck.”
Meilyn walked over to the edge of the battlement and sat down with her knees together. Then she closed her eyes clasped her hands together across her chest and gently breathed in and out.
She was doing something known as ‘Charging’ among necromancers.
After a battle the jet-black in the user’s body is often depleted and the ‘core’ that converts mana into jet-black has usually been abused and won’t work properly.
By sitting in a comfortable position and focusing on breathing necromancers could draw mana into their body once more and gently loosen the exhausted core revitalizing them.
It wasn’t as effective as natural recovery but it was better than nothing.
However necromancers who are Charging become defenseless because all of their focus has to be directed inwards onto their own body.
As such…
Clatter.
Rattle.
It was common to have skeletons guard the caster like what Meilyn did. It doesn’t take much jet-black to access the thoughts of the undead after all.
‘Meilyn is doing well.’
While he was at it Simon checked the current war situation.
[Defending Team (15/15)]
[Attacking Team (12/15)]
They were making perfectly good progress from the looks of things.
Seemingly losing another fighter the attackers had been reduced to 12 and the defending team hadn’t lost a single necromancer yet.
Even though the attacking team had ten times the numbers the fact that the defending team had even a shabby castle seemed to be a big advantage.
‘If everyone keeps this up we’ll last half the time in the outer castle.’
It was just when Simon was about to relax a little.
[Miri Baretta eliminated.]
‘Huh?’
[Paul Sejin eliminated.]
Simon’s eyes opened wide. They were both students on the defending side.
[Defending Team (13/15)]
[Attacking Team (12/15)]
“…What’s going on all of a sudden?”
“S-Supreme commander! We’re in trouble!”
A messenger hurriedly ran to Simon.
“From the north gate!”
“The north gate?”
Just then a new message popped up in front of Simon.
[The north gate of the outer castle has been breached.]
[Fall of the Outer Castle event occurred.]
[All troops of the Aeon kingdom are retreating to the inner castle.]
Simon’s face was colored with urgency. The north gate was breached before the messenger could even arrive?
‘Just who…?’
His head turned toward the north gate.
‘Who could be at the north gate right now?’
* * *
“Pant! Pant!”
Yowoo had broken into a sprint. He was the student who first fought for the position of supreme commander and kept vying for it until the very end.
He was in charge of guarding the east gate. When he heard the call for help he rushed to the north gate. But before he could get there a message popped up saying that the gate had been breached.
‘What happened? The north gate was the second most well-reinforced gate in terms of the people defending it.’
Around him he could see panicking beast-human soldiers frantically running to the inner castle.
It was complete pandemonium.
Yowoo went past the soldiers and reached the north gate.
“…!”
As soon as he arrived at the gate he saw an odd scene.
A girl in a white uniform sat on the battlements like she was getting a tan on the beach.
Amidst the splattering blood clashing weapons screaming and shouting she was completely calm. It was as if she were in a world of her own.
‘Elissa Seline!’
The supreme commander herself stepped out. By the looks of it they had already claimed the battlement. The flag of the Khan Kingdom was fluttering behind her.
‘The north gate was being protected by four necromancers. Elissa couldn’t defeat them all at once.’
Yowoo’s eyes turned.
‘Who else is it? Just who in the world…?’
Crrrrrrrrrrrrrash!
Yowoo’s head jerked to the side at the sudden uproar.
A slash the size of a mountain was carving through the castle wall tearing every living thing it touched to shreds. Not even cells remained as ratmen were completely erased from the world.
‘Don’t tell me!’
And at the base of the slash a boy with an expressionless face and an eye patch was crouched forward. He hadn’t even drawn the longsword at his waist.
‘S.A.5 Jule Vincere!’
Yowoo’s jaw dropped. To think a big shot like him would join too!
“Ah… Agggggghhhhhh!!”
This time a pained scream echoed across the battlefield.
When Yowoo turned his head a man as big as a mountain was holding Vuine the ace of the north gate defending team by the face with one hand.
Vuine let out an ear-piercing scream as he struggled. Beneath him the bodies of the two students were slowly vanishing.
Those huge wings and scales… There was no mistaking it.
‘Even Hector Moore!’
Soon Hector applied more force in his hand and the barrier on Vuine’s face cracked apart.
Vuine’s body fell to the ground before soon vanishing into thin air.
[Vuine Lordrek eliminated.]
[Defending Team (12/15)]
[Attacking Team (12/15)]
“Well played well played everyone.”
Elissa smiled and raised her hand.
“The siege is just about to get started! Let’s kick off the event with spectacular fireworks!”
Snap!
Elissa snapped her fingers.
The sound of countless cannons being fired shook the air and dozens of shells soared into the air outside the castle.
Pooooooow!
Ka-boooooooom!
The bombardments fell down in a row turning soldiers into bits of flesh and structures into rubble.
‘I’m gonna go crazy!’
Yowoo’s lips quivered in fear.
The sight of Elissa Jule and Hector beyond the burning castle walls was already intimidating enough.
‘…How do we beat that combination?’
“Small fry just chicken out already.”
Elissa had spotted Yowoo.
“Why don’t you call Simon Polentia here if you wanna stop us?”
Suddenly a horrible roar above his head made Yowoo look up. Shells from a phantom ship were falling above him.
“Retreat! Retreat right now! Squeak squeak!”
“Squeak! Run to the inner castle!”
The beast-humans of the Aeon Kingdom were in full-blown panic. Elissa grinned and swung her arm.
“The rats of the Aeon Kingdom are fleeing to the inner castle! Don’t let a single one escape!!”
At her command the Khan Kingdom’s cavalry surged out like a blocked dam bursting open.
It was as Elissa said when she asked the Aeon Kingdom’s soldiers to lay down their arms. The only other road is annihilation.
