Chapter 314
Camibarez’ hemorrhage spell was a clean hit.
The scorpion crashed to the sand blood spraying from everywhere as it writhed in agony.
“Kugh!”
However Simon’s complexion was rapidly worsening. The venom had gotten into his system and was spreading.
“Simon! Are you okay?”
He wasn’t okay at all but he tried his best to nod.
“It’s trying to get away. Let’s finish it off now.”
As Simon said this and reached his arm out to cast a spell the monster turned around.
The carapace flapped open at the end of its tail and it fired off a puff of poisonous gas.
Psshh!
Simon was covered in the smog with no time to escape. The gas was also approaching Camibarez who was only a few meters away.
‘It’s gonna be bad if both of us get poisoned!’
At least one of them had to stay unharmed to make the antidote.
Simon swung his arm wildly commanding a set of Bone Armor to fly in. It burst through the quickly expanding smog and attached to Camibarez’ body pushing her backward.
“Kyah!”
Even that was barely fast enough and the thick gas engulfed where she was just standing. However Camibarez covered with Bone Armor was sent flying into the distance before falling hard to the ground.
“Pant pant!”
Simon looked ahead gasping for air. The ‘Blood Thread’ had been deactivated due to the Camibarez’ rough landing and broken concentration and the scorpion had been freed. It was digging into the ground trying to run away.
“Cami…!”
Simon shouted dropping to one knee.
“Chase— cough cough! Ugh”
“Simon!!”
Finally Simon couldn’t hold it any longer and collapsed.
Camibarez who was about to go after the scorpion ran to him in fright and knelt beside him.

“Simon! Please hang in there! Simon!”
Tears welled up in her eyes. Simon tried his best to smile to reassure her then moved his hand.
“…Let’s collect the venom first.”
“Ah yes!”
The scorpion could be hunted later but the antidote had to be prepared now.
She hurriedly took out the antidote kit and pressed a piece of oil paper to Simon’s cut. The paper turned green as it absorbed the venom.
“P-Please keep applying pressure to the the the… it.”
Her voice quivered.
She was so confused and worried after seeing the invulnerable Simon so hurt but she remembered her training and kept moving.
‘I need to make an antidote so Simon can be safe!’
Thankfully the poison cloud hadn’t completely cleared yet.
Even at his condition poisoned and unable to stand Simon pulled a skeleton out of the subspace pulled a piece of paper from his kit and handed it to the skeleton.
The skeleton unaffected by the venom ran into the smoke and returned with the smoke’s toxins on the paper.
“Cami here… The smoke cloud.”
Unlike Simon who seemed to be struggling the skeleton he was controlling with the thoughts moved quickly and accurately.
“Th-Thank you.”
She politely took the paper from the skeleton with both hands and set it down on top of the box from the kit.
“With this… we’ve collected… both the claw venom and smoke poison.”
“S-Simon you need to rest now!”
“It’s fine.”
Even though he was poisoned his mind was still clear so he could move the undead at will.
Camibarez glanced around nervously as she tended to Simon. She didn’t know when or where the scorpion would attack again.
“I-I’ll get us to a safe place first!!”
Putting the antidote kit back into her subspace she wrapped her arms around Simon’s back and below the knees.
Then with a grunt she lifted him up into a princess carry.
‘Haha…’
However the difference in size was too much and her posture was extremely unstable.
Camibarez’ entire body was trembling but she managed to hold on with the help of jet-black.
“I-I’m going to save you Simon!”
She took each step on shaking legs. Seeing her struggling and limping gave Simon a faint smile even in his poisoned state.
“Put me down… Cami. I’ll walk on… my own.”
Above all the position he was being held in was too rough. At this rate his back was going to kill him before the venom did.
“How are you going to walk in that state?!”
“There’s a way.”
Simon disassembled two skeletons and attached them to his body. It was full-body Bone Armor.
The real value of Bone Armor was its ability to reinforce like an exoskeleton suit. Simon controlled the bone armor with his thoughts and slowly pulled himself up without needing to rely on his actual muscles.
He took one step at a time then another and perhaps got used to it and started walking properly.

“Let’s go Cami.”
Camibarez stared blankly from behind as Simon walked with the Bone Armor.
‘…He really is amazing.’
Even after he was poisoned by an extreme venom where the average person would’ve passed out right away Simon was calmly analyzing the situation coming up with solutions and acting them out right away. To Camibarez it seemed so mature and admirable.
‘Mmm.’
On the other hand Simon was having a headache. He thought of sending Camibarez away aiming his video-recording pendant at his chest and secretly using his divinity but…
‘With the level of my Cure I can’t undo the venom of a level five monster.’
Among light spells there was ‘Cure’ a healing skill that could get rid of venom and other conditions. However Simon focused his training on healing and didn’t pay much attention to Cure.
He’d believed in the fact that Belya’s Poisonous Alchemy class had made him somewhat immune to toxins. He felt a little regretful thinking about it now.
‘…I guess it can’t be helped. It was just a matter of choice and focus. For now I should trust the antidotes of Poisonous Alchemy.’
They crossed the desert and entered the forest which the information sheet told them was relatively safe.
Simon lay down on the grass and controlled his skeleton while Camibarez frantically made the antidote.
Her grades in Poisonous Alchemy were high. It was her second-best subject next to Hemomancy and Simon was far behind. He had to rely on her for the antidote.
“I’ll begin.”
Clasping her hands over her chest she took a breath in and started her work.
First Cami had to analyze the venom. The paper from which the venom had been collected was set on top of three layers of tricolor paper.
The venom spread across the layers changing each of their colors.
“…The red paper turning yellow indicates a form of neurotoxin.”
She flipped open her well-used Poisonous Alchemy textbook and quickly began to analyze.
“The blue paper turning black indicates high levels of sodium. But the red one turned out to indicate the opposite which therefore means…”
Camibarez mumbled out her rapid thoughts as she placed several papers on top of the venom.
After observing the color change of each paper and jotting down her analysis she added a drop of some aqueous solution or a chunk of fat from the kit to see if it would be decomposed from the venom.
No matter what the toxin was if you knew its components a necromancer could always create an antidote to counteract it.
Meanwhile still lying down Simon moved his skeletons to fetch wood and prepare to start a fire.
Gathering some branches and dry leaves he set the strongest aside to form a support then hung the magical cauldron over the rest.
“I’m done analyzing!”
In the meantime Camibarez had finished analyzing both the claw venom and the smoke poison. She turned around sweat dripping down her forehead in concentration.
“S-Simon!!”
With her realizing it Simon had fallen almost completely unconscious.
She was so startled that she threw down her notes and ran to him. When she put her hand on his forehead it was quite hot.
“…”
Simon was in danger.
No matter the importance of the performance assessment nothing was more important than Simon’s life.
With a determined look the moment she lifted the pendant around her neck and was about to press the button to forfeit the test until…
Tap tap.
From behind her a skeleton tapped Camibarez’ shoulder. Then it crossed its arms to make an X sign and began writing a small note in her textbook with a quill.
[I’m fine. Never give up.]
“…Simon.”
She carefully approached and placed her ear on Simon’s chest.
As Simon had said he was fine. His breathing was regular and his pulse was still good.
“Ah!”
Camibarez blushed and jerked her head away belatedly realizing that she had just pressed close against Simon’s chest.
“If I… really feel like… I can’t go on… I’ll be the one to press it.”
Simon’s lips cracked open as a thin smile formed on his face.
“Please… go make… the antidote.”
“S-Simon.”
Her eyes shook. After a moment’s hesitation she pushed herself back up brushed the dirt off her knees and made a determined face.
“P-Please just hang in there! I’ll be right back!”
“Yeah…”
Camibarez picked up the Poisonous Alchemy textbook from the ground held it around her waist and began to run through the forest panting. She also loosened the sealing magic circle on her abdomen a little and activated her Ursula blood.
‘Just like how you saved me all the time Simon!’
She ran into the forest stepping on jet-black to move in faster.
‘This time I’ll be the one to save you!’
From her studies she recognized the shapes of the plants and blades of grass. She immediately gathered the herbs and flowers she needed for her antidote put them in a basket and placed them back in her subspace.
Grrrrrrr! Ruff!
A distraction.
A pack of ‘hound dogs’ a common monster found in forests growled at Camibarez and slowly encircled her. However she was too busy picking herbs to pay them much mind.
With one hand she plucked a herb and she put the other hand behind her head firing a Blood Bullet without even looking.
Poooow!
The hound dogs whimpered as one of them was hit by the bullet and ran away.
“Next!”
She flipped open the textbook.
“The gallbladder of a werewolf. Are there any werewolves in this forest?”
It was impossible to create a 100% perfect antidote in the field. You had to find something that had a somewhat similar effect.
Kssshhh! Ksh!
This time it was a swarm of bats.
“Out of my way!!”
Camibarez unleashed a barrage of blood dark magic dying the surroundings a deep red. Only half the blood was hers.
What remained of the monsters flew away but goblins soon took their place and tried to lunge in. Until they saw the carnage and fled with their tails between their legs.
However with this much commotion…
Grrrr!
There was a good chance for the boss monster to come out.
The owner of this forest a giant crimson bear stood in Camibarez’ way.
“Get lost!!”
Shouted Camibarez her eyes gleaming with her own crimson.
As murderous jet-black surged up from her body the bear flinched and slowly backed away.
‘I found it!’
In the meantime Camibarez ran over and plucked a white dawn flower an important ingredient for the antidote and placed it in the subspace.
‘Simon! Hang in there!’
* * *
‘Mmm.’
As Simon felt his mind getting fuzzy and his sense of sight and sound distorting due to the venom he found a new way to train.
In this half-conscious state he could actually feel his body and the flow of the jet-black far more deeply.
Perhaps Belya’s lessons were working after all. The elements in his body were fighting back against the toxins. His body seemed to be adapting and building up antibodies.
In this state he could control the elements that resisted the venom. They were pushing out the foreign substance keeping it contained.
‘Here.’
Simon gripped the short sword in his hand and made a small cut on his stomach.
‘Cure.’
He could feel the venom quickly neutralizing. Simon covered the wound with Heal again and then continued to fight the venom.
‘It’s a waste of time to stay down just because I’m poisoned.’
Simon was teaching himself the higher level of ‘Blood Poison’ Belya’s ultimate goal.
On top of that he got to train his Cure which he had neglected.
‘So I can do training like this thanks to getting poisoned huh? It’s actually pretty fun.’
What didn’t kill him made him stronger. He was like an addict to suffering.
Simon’s body was crushing every trial and pushing him to greater heights.
