Necromancer Academy’s Genius Summoner – 290

Chapter 290
‘My Akalion was taken away?’
The priest was freaking out so much she was on the verge of passing out.
Divine beasts were the most special creatures in the world feeding on morning dew and divinity.
They were extremely particular regarding their food: ‘divinity’. In extreme cases they had been observed attempting to switch owners after being charmed by another’s divinity.
Therefore it was jokingly said that the most important trait for a Divine Beasts aspirant wasn’t their ability to manipulate the divine beast nor their skill in looking after them but rather how delicious their divinity was.
However she had taken care of Akalion in Efnel known as the gathering place of the elites among elites and she thought she would continue to do so.
‘But you’re saying it was taken away from me? By a necromancer at that?!’
“Go!”
At the boy’s command the bear-like divine beast Akalion charged at the priest with terrifying speed.
“Akaliiiiooonnn! How could you do this to me?!”
Wailed the priest.
A panorama of memories flashed through her mind. The first time she fed Akalion; the many times she slept with Akalion after it had been surprised by wild animals; the first time they had defeated a monster and shared that moment of joy.
‘There’s no way my Akalion would do that! My opponent is a vicious necromancer right? It must be under some kind of curse or something! B-But do curses work on divine beasts? Anyway! I need to defeat that necromancer and get my Akalion back!’
Barely regaining her composure the priest hurriedly reached forward. Her most powerful divine beast had been taken away but she still had two left.
“Block it Jacky!”
The rock-like divine beast moved in front of the priest curling up and taking a defensive stance.
But Akalion didn’t slow down. It charged forward and slammed into the living boulder sending it flying into the sky.
“Jackyyyy!”
The priest’s tears scattered. After clearing away the obstruction Akalion continued to charge forward and slam into the priest.
“Agh!”
With a scream she flew away rolling down a steep cliff.
[Kiiiiiee!]
The last remaining flying divine beast rushed down the cliff to save her.
Simon scratched his head with a somewhat puzzled face.

‘Didn’t actually expect this to work.’
Although Rete’s baby White Dragon ‘Ran’ was also obedient to Simon’s orders he had never imagined that he would be able to command a divine beast owned by a Divine Beasts aspirant.
Tap tap.
Just then Akalion leisurely returned to Simon.
It was even holding the subspace badge that it came out of in its mouth. It sat on its butt and wagged its tail as if seeking praise.
“…W-Well done.”
Simon feigned a laugh patting Akalion’s head. Akalion let out a pleasant cry.
“Now would you like to return? I’m sure your master is very upset.”
Simon turned away extinguishing the divinity that surrounded Akalion’s body.
Then Akalion naturally followed at Simon’s side.
“?”
When Simon quickened his pace Akalion ran on all fours and came to his side.
“??”
Simon stared at Akalion blinking several times. Akalion licked Simon’s cheek and wagged its tail.
“Are you really following me?”
Simon was dumbfounded. This divine beast was definitely in no mood to leave.
‘…T-To think this is possible.’
He couldn’t help but laugh. Honestly he also felt a prick on his conscience.
Simon sent heartfelt words of consolation to the priest who was probably unconscious after their tumble on the sloping cliff.
“…Well anyway that’s another one dealt with.”
Simon smiled a little before he hopped onto Akalion’s back.
“Now that things turned this way I’m counting on you from now on Akalion!”
[Woof! Woof!]
Simon wasn’t the type to let an opportunity slip through his fingers because of guilt.
Getting a divine beast from the neutral area dispatch mission was an unexpected turn of events but it provided him with the conditions necessary to begin his studies in Divine Beasts.
Akalion started running with Simon on its back.
* * *
Simon was worried about Sasha and the others.
Quickly crossing through the forest while riding on Akalion Simon soon heard a familiar voice.
“Are you alright? Please open your eyes!”
It was Meilyn’s voice. Simon patted Akalion’s back.
“Please head to where the sound is coming from.”
[Wooof! Woof!]
Not too long after Akalion started heading in that direction he could see Meilyn through the trees.
She was shouting something in front of an unconscious girl and the unconscious girl was none other than…

“Cami!”
Simon quickly got off Akalion and rushed over. When Meilyn looked back she saw Akalion and backed away while remaining in her seated position letting out an odd scream.
“Hueeef! Wh-Wh-What is that? A monster?!”
“I picked it up in the woods.”
Glossing over it Simon checked on Camibarez.
“Cami! Are you alright?”
Her eyelids trembled. Soon after she let out a slight groan and opened her eyes although she looked extraordinarily tired.
As soon as she saw Simon’s face she burst into tears.
“…I’m sorry. I’m really sorry!”
“Wh-What happened?
“I couldn’t… protect Sasha.”
This was what Camibarez told them.
She fought against a female student from Efnel who seemed to be a Guarding aspirant. Simon had taken out three others by himself which meant they had won the battle against all four Efnel students.
However…
“Some man took Sasha away.”
“A man?”
Simon recalled the only adult male among the girls when he first saw the priests’ formation.
“He’s an adult with a bit of an unusual hair color am I right? Some orange or something…”
“Th-That’s right.”
Just after Camibarez had knocked out one priest the orange-haired man suddenly appeared and attacked her.
It seemed like he was chasing after Rick and Seiwirr but noticed the illusion and immediately turned away to head for Camibarez.
This man was far stronger than the Efnel students. Camibarez who was already low on stamina couldn’t last long.
“That time Sasha looked at him and called him…”
Camibarez’ voice began to waver as she continued
“She called him ‘godfather’…”
“!”
Simon’s eyes widened.
Sasha was an orphan with no siblings or foster parents but she had mentioned that a person she called ‘godfather’ came to visit her sometimes.
‘So he was the mysterious godfather and a priest.’
The godfather saves Sasha from being kidnapped by necromancers.
Simon could understand if that’s how things were going.
However he had a hunch that something was a little bit off. Simon remembered the drugs and syringes he’d seen at Sasha’s house. If those were the godfather’s doing then…
“I saw it.”
Having come to a similar conclusion Camibarez spoke again with a shaking voice.
“Sasha was afraid of that ‘godfather’.”
“Afraid?”
“Yes. Sasha insisted on staying with me and resisted but he knocked her out and ran away holding her in his arms.”
Hearing the explanation Meilyn frowned.
“You can tell us the whole story later. First let’s get out of this forest. We need to talk with Rick and Agent Seiwirr and hear their opinions as well.”
Simon agreed raising his head up.
Night had fallen and dawn was breaking.
* * *
The three of them made it out of the forest and joined up with Rick and Seiwirr.
“Rick! Are you alright?”
“Yeeaah… Except that I almost died.”
Said Rick with a bitter smile. Long bandages were wrapped around his head and shoulders.
“Tsk that orange-haired man was really strong. We couldn’t even last a minute.”
As Simon had predicted Sasha’s godfather had been chasing Rick and Seiwirr from the beginning.
But perhaps he had realized that the carriage was all an illusion of Seiwirr’s halfway through the battle. Rick said the godfather stopped attacking and turned his back on them sprinting off.
“And here’s a case study of someone getting hit pretty hard by light magic and losing his mind.”
Rick pointed at Seiwirr lying on the ground. His body was convulsing like he had a seizure.
Meilyn frowned putting a hand to her forehead.
“Gosh you’re so… useless! If we had a proper professional necromancer on our side from the start we wouldn’t have been easily defeated like this! We won all the student-on-student battles! This isn’t fair!”
Camibarez who was being carried by Simon leaned in with a sullen face.
“D-Does that mean… we failed the mission?”
Rick nodded and let out a small sigh.
“I suppose so. We’ve lost the objective so we wouldn’t be able to avoid getting interrogated by the disciplinary committee. If we’re unlucky we may have to leave Kizen.”
Hearing that tears welled up in Camibarez’ eyes and Meilyn swung her arms and shouted
“Th-That’s not possible! This was a mission that came about because that idiot Seiwirr tricked us into it! Plus he wasn’t even a mentor necromancer in the first place!”
“Well I guess we should choose our words wisely in front of the disciplinary committee but… Kizen is known for being inflexible so I don’t know how they’ll react.”
“Do you realize you’ve been acting all calm this whole time but now can only blabber pessimistic thought after pessimistic thought? It’s annoying.”
“Back to you! You keep on—!”
The moment they were about to raise their voices Camibarez bowed deeply and said
“…I’m sorry everyone. It’s all my fault.”
At that Rick and Meilyn stopped arguing right away. They switched to trying to comfort Camibarez with a smile.
“H-Hey! That’s not true! You said you took down a priest didn’t you Cami? You did your part. You didn’t do anything wrong!”
“That’s right that’s right!”
Rick continued with a thumbs up
“I’m not so sure about us but we’ll make sure at least you don’t get expelled.”
“I’m going to drop out rather than be left alone! All of us need to remain in Kizen together!”
Having made that declaration Camibarez lowered her head again.
“And Sasha… I wonder what’s going to happen to her now?”
“…”
No one could answer that question.
The mood plummeted.
Simon listening in silence gathered his thoughts and moved. He gently put Camibarez down from his back and onto the grass then began to rummage around in Seiwirr’s pocket who was still shivering intermittently.
“Oh.”
Simon took the necklace from around Seiwirr’s neck.
“Rick isn’t this a subspace?”
Rick strode over and examined it.
“Yeah it’s clearly a subspace artifact. An old-fashioned one!”
“Can you open it?”
“Hmm let me see.”
Rick put down the necklace took out and wore a pair of glasses that went through mana treatment and examined the necklace.
“Hah this is a super old-fashioned second-hand subspace! The newer ones react only to the user’s actions or jet-black but if the system is this old it shouldn’t take that long for me to open it.”
“I’m counting on you.”
Rick took out a portable table and some equipment put down the subspace and tinkered with it a few times.
Not too long after…
“It opened!”
A small space opened up in the necklace’s body big enough to fit an arm through.
Rick put his arm into that space swirled it around a few times and then pulled out something.
“It’s a communication crystal ball!”
“Really?”
Meilyn jumped in delight then glared at the still-unconscious Seiwirr.
“You said you lost it but it was there all along! You! You little! Lying till the end!”
Rick handed the communication crystal ball to Simon and said
“Its method of communication is fixed. It’s clearly a direct line to headquarters.”
“I’ll try to connect right away.”
Simon poured mana into the crystal ball and activated it.
The hum of vibrating mana sounded out and a moment later…
[Seiiiiwwwiiirrrrr!!]
A deafeningly loud male voice boomed out from the crystal ball.
Simon squinted and moved the communication crystal ball a bit farther away from his ear and the other group members covered their ears.
[Where the hell are you? Where the hell are you you fucking asshole?! All of Vengeance is in an emergency status because of you you @$*%^!!!]
“There’s a misunderstanding. I’m not Seiwirr but—!]
[What do you mean by misunderstanding!! You’re really crazy aren’t you?! How dare you an unqualified asshole snatch the kids from Kizen and go on a major mission? You think you’re some sort of &^!@$!!!]
He seemed too busy venting his anger to listen to Simon.
“Hand it over.”
Meilyn took the communication crystal ball.
Even as she cleared her throat the man’s offensive and derogatory remarks continued pouring out.
[You bastard! Didn’t I tell you last week? I told you just fucking do what you’re told! Oh gosh I can’t even talk properly with how pissed I am. You fucking crazy bast—!]
“Hello! This is the H.Q. of Vengeance am I right?”
Hearing a woman’s voice all of a sudden he stopped talking out of bewilderment.
[Huh wh-who is this?]
Meilyn smiled and spoke in a high–pitched voice.
“I’m Meilyn Villenne a first-year Kizen student on a dispatch mission from Vengeance!”
There were exactly five seconds of silence.
[Ah— Ahhh… Ah! M-My apologies for showing such discourtesy! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to do this! How should I make up for this…?]
This time a long string of apologies erupted from the man.
Meilyn brought the communication crystal ball closer to her mouth with a shrug.
“Who’s on the crystal ball?”
[M-My name is Blake a member of Vengeance’s Combatants! I’m the necromancer who should’ve been in charge of the Kizen students!]
“Aha I see. First I’d like to explain a bit about our current situation.”
Meilyn then explained everything.
Starting from how Seiwirr had tricked them into taking them with him by manipulating the letter via illusion magic to how they’d been sent on a mission to secure Sasha and defeated those who’d previously kidnapped her only to be attacked by Efnel and have Sasha taken from them.
[Ha-Haha. So many things happened in that short amount of time… You’ve done a great job. It’s entirely our fault that Sasha was taken away. We’ll make sure to tell the school so they don’t penalize you.]
Meilyn nodded toward the group with a wide grin before she continued to speak with a calm tone.
“Yes thank you. We would appreciate it if you would do that for us.”
[We should certainly head over to pick you up right away dear students but there’s been a bit of trouble over here so it’ll take a while. You can stay in any of the nearby towns and…]
Simon approached and gestured to Meilyn to hand over the crystal ball which she obediently did.
“I’m Simon Polentia also a first-year student from Kizen.”
There was another five seconds of silence.
[A-Aha! Hahaha! So you’re that Special Admission No.1 student! I really have no excuses on this matter. Please put in a good word about us to the witch of dea—]
“Sure don’t worry about that. Other than that we need information about the ‘godfather’ who attacked Sasha.”
[I see! Got it! We’ll look into it and get back to you right away!]
That was how the call ended.
There was another reason why he asked them to investigate the godfather.
Simon had no intention of ending this mission on such a sour note.
Aside from his sense of duty he actually felt a sense of responsibility toward Sasha.
[Kuhehe! Even if you find the godfather this situation isn’t something at the level a student could manage!]
Pier seemed to enjoy things turning more complicated.
[I suppose you’ll have to make a decision soon Boy!]
‘…Haaah. I guess it can’t be helped.’
Said Simon roughly scratching his head.
‘If it’s too much for a student I’ll use the Commander’s power to solve it.’
Pier laughed raucously as if he’d been waiting for those very words.
[Now this is getting interesting! I’ll be prepared to step up at any moment!]
