    Chapter 289

Meanwhile as Simon was fighting two of the priests…

    “Pant! Pant!”

Camibarez was frantically running away while holding Sasha’s hand.

An Efnel student chasing after them through the trees.

“Hand over the girl while I’m being nice!”

The night sky flashed with light and a pillar of pure white light fell. It was the infamous light spell ‘Exorcism’.

    Craaaaaaack!

Camibarez hugged Sasha and threw themselves to the ground. The pillar of light struck where they had just been standing sending up a cloud of dirt and pebbles.

    ‘Ugh!’

Camibarez stood up right away and tried to run but before she realized it a transparent wall had appeared in front of her.

“No matter how much you run you’ll never escape my grasp.”

The priest jumped down from the tree and landed on the ground.

Sending Sasha behind her Cami gathered jet-black in her hands.

‘I need to fight. I need to protect Sasha!’

It was just one priest who followed after them.

Simon was the first to break away followed by Meilyn who intercepted another group of priests pursuing them.

Camibarez and Sasha almost managed to escape safely with the time they bought but there was one who tracked after them.

She had to take at least this one down.

‘I’m worried about Simon and Meilyn but if it’s the two of them I’m sure they’ll be fine.’

Camibarez took a deep breath then looked back and said

    “Sasha could you stay away?”

    “Okay.”

Sasha nodded and stepped back. Since Efnel’s goal was to secure the Saintess candidate they wouldn’t attack her.

“You seem pretty normal for a necromancer.”

Said the priest shrugging as if in surprise.

“Same goes for that boy who stepped out by himself.”

Hearing that Cami’s eyes widened. The only person she could be talking about was Simon.

“Wh-What did you do with him?!”

“Of course he’s been beaten up by my fellow sisters by now.”

    The priest smirked.

“Sister Lilinette is strong. Maybe his core’s been cracked by now?”

    “That can’t…!”

Camibarez placed her palm against her own stomach and turned it clockwise.

    “Be!”

    Chink!

The seal of the Ursula family’s blood had been partially lifted.

Her eyes turned blood red her wings grew slightly bigger and her sharp fangs glinted with a dangerous light.

“Now that makes you a little more monster-like.”

The priest brought her arms forward and crossed them in the air in front of her.

    Creeeaaak!

Out of nowhere two near-transparent walls appeared on either side of Camibarez. Jumping up to dodge it the two walls crashed in the center with a dull thud.

Cami looked down at the deadly scene and let out an inward sigh of relief. But…

    Slam!

    “Ah?”

Her forehead suddenly began to throb. The translucent material made it hard to see but apparently the priest had already set up a wall in the sky as well.

    “I got you!”

The priest quickly lowered her arm bringing the wall crashing down with Camibarez trapped underneath pinning her to the ground face-up.

    “You’re done now you monster!”

Spat the priest bringing her arms above her head. An ‘Exorcism’ magic circle began to form in the sky.

    ‘I can’t escape!’

The more she struggled the deeper into the ground she was pushed. Her efforts felt futile until…

    “Big sister!”

Sasha’s desperate cry forced her to fight on even a little longer. Camibarez placed her hands against the wall tilted her head back and then plunged her fangs into the wall.

    Crack!

The strength of the fangs against the descending wall made it begin to splinter long lines working their way through the wall centered on the fangs. And then…

    Shatter!

The wall was no more. However she wasn’t quite out of danger yet.

Looking up the Exorcism spell above her was nearly complete and Cami barely managed to roll out of the way in time to avoid disaster.

“I thought vampires were just creatures from fairy tales.”

The priest fired several divine arrows as intrigue filled her face.

“Now could you please return to your fairy tale?”

    Pshhk! Shk shk shk shk!

Camibarez ran for her life dodging the divine arrows before turning back and pointing her finger pistol at the priest.

A blood bullet burst out causing her hand to get sent flying upward. But the priest blocked it with ease by creating a transparent wall in front of her.

    ‘A Guarding aspirant.’

Like Simon Camibarez was making the most of the information she learned from Defensive Against the Holy Arts.

‘She’s someone who specializes in defense and in combat they use barriers and walls to keep their opponent in place before unleashing a finishing blow.’

True to her analysis the priest returned to her old plan of immobilizing Cami forming several transparent walls simultaneously and sending them flying after their target.

Now more prepared for what was to come Camibarez deftly sidestepped the incoming obstacles.

    ‘!’

While she was concentrating on the wall in front of her another wall suddenly descended from the sky.

She barely stepped back in time to dodge it moments before it crashed down leaving a large square-shaped crater.

    ‘I-I can’t dodge them all!’

Slowly losing her balance while dodging all the barrage of unending walls Camibarez eventually crashed into the wall in front of her.

Immediately she found herself getting pushed back along with the wall and in seconds she was going to get thrown into a nearby tree.

‘If I get pinned I’m done for!’

Camibarez quickly opened her palm and formed a magic circle against the wall. Then she slammed the magic circle with her fist.

    {Blood Strike}

    Poooooow!

The wall shattered and Camibarez landed on the ground.

    However…

    “It’s~ complete.”

Without her realizing it a wide circular barrier had formed around Camibarez.

The priest hummed an eerily cheery tune and balled her fists.

    Creeeaaak.

    The circle began to shrink.

Camibarez tried to break it with a barrage of blood bullets but they didn’t even make a single crack.

In an instant the barrier shrank to the size of her body and began to squeeze hard on her not allowing her to move an inch.

    “Aarrgghh!”

    “Serves you right vampire!”

The priest smiled pleasantly and raised her hand lifting the barrier up with Cami trapped inside it.

Perhaps to prevent the barrier from being broken by her fangs like last time she had left a round gap at Camibarez’ face suppressing her completely from the neck down.

Camibarez couldn’t even move a finger.

“In addition to being able to immobilize something completely I can also focus the force on specific areas.”

At the priest’s words the barrier started to grow thicker around Cami’s neck.

    Cough! Cough!

    Camiberez was starting to choke.

    “Release big sister Cami!!”

Shouted Sasha. Seeing this the priest smiled gracefully and waved Sasha closer.

“If you want that to happen then please come this way little miss Saintess candidate~”

    “N-No wa— Ahhh!”

A loud pop came from Cami’s neck.

“Whether she suffocates or her neck breaks at this rate that cute little vampire will definitely die you know?”

Reluctantly Sasha started walking toward the priest with fury in her eyes. The priest grinned.

    “Good job.”

    Swish.

Camibarez forced her palm to face outward amidst the relentless pressure.

    Swish. Swish. Swish.

Realizing she was up to something the priest looked up.

“No matter what you do it’s no u—”

    “Sasha!”

Her voice was weak from a lack of oxygen but she managed to shout

    “Run!!”

    Swoooooooooooooosh!

The priest looked back in surprise.

A tornado of blood had appeared out of nowhere destroying trees bushes and anything else in its path.

    Her face turned pale.

    {Ursula Unique Blood Magic – Call Tempest}

It was the strongest dark spell Camibarez could use.

‘You’re telling me she was preparing such a grand spell while fighting me?’

If she lost focus and ran the barrier suppressing Camibarez would be lifted.

The priest hurriedly formed another solid barrier in a desperate attempt to save her life but the tornado of blood was relentless.

    Whiiiiiiiiiiiish!

She was swallowed alongside the barrier leaving only screams behind.

A few seconds later the barrier imprisoning Camibarez shattered: the caster was neutralized.

    “Cough! Cough!”

As soon as she landed on the ground she coughed clutching her throat in pain. After giving herself a moment to recover Cami clapped her hands together and her eyes pulsed with light.

    Boom!

The tornado scattered and in the center of it a priest covered in blood fell to the ground her Efnel uniform torn to shreds.

    “Huff. Huff.”

    She’d won.

Sasha smiled brightly and tried to rush over to Camibarez but her condition seemed a little odd.

Her irises had turned an even deeper red and she was approaching the priest covered in blood with hunger in her eyes.

    Step. Step.

    She looked very very thirsty.

The moment she was about to drive her fangs into the unconscious priest’s neck…

    Grab.

    Sasha hugged Camibarez tightly.

Just like how Camibarez had done to her every time until now.

    “…B-Big sister are you alright?”

Camibarez trembled slightly then stopped. A few ragged breaths escaped her lips and then her breathing slowly returned to normal.

At last she managed to force out a reply.

    “I’m… fine.”

When Sasha looked back up Camibarez’ irises had returned to their usual dark purple.

The two hugged tightly both of them reassuring the other that everything was okay.

    {Hail Storm}

    Swaaaaaaaaaaah!

As Meilyn repeatedly swung her arms down needles of ice rained down from the magic circle in the sky.

    “Block it Jacky.”

At the priest’s command the rock-like divine beast seemingly named Jacky stepped forward and curled into a solid ball.

Its body then hardened with divinity and it easily blocked Meilyn’s blizzard.

    Meilyn clicked her tongue.

    ‘That’s pretty tricky.’

Her opponent seemed to be a Divine Beasts aspirant.

She fought with five divine beasts at her command.

Three of them had fallen to Meilyn’s attack forcing the priest to return them to her divine subspace but there were still two left.

    “Now’s the time! Gino!”

Meilyn quickly ducked at the priest’s shout.

A hawk-like a divine beast swooped past tearing through the air. A few strands of her light blue hair were cut off but she ducked in time to avoid injury.

‘Just how many divine beasts does she have? This was meant to be a one vs one!’

Their combat power was almost equal.

Meilyn cast another Dark Flare with both hands and the priest prepared to summon another divine beast from her subspace.

    Just then…

    “Meilyn!”

Through the bushes came Simon appearing from the darkness.

    “Ah Simon!”

Exclaimed Meilyn her voice filled with delight.

    “…Huh? What?”

    The priest looked puzzled.

‘What about Sister Lilinette and Sister Ishtar?’

Jumping in front of Meilyn Simon said

“If she’s a Divine Beast aspirant I can handle her better. You should hurry over to Cami.”

“Handle it better? What nonsense are you suddenly spouting!”

Instead of wasting precious time with an explanation Simon said as seriously as he could

“Please. I’ll take her down quickly and catch up.”

    “…”

Meilyn was a bit bummed that she couldn’t settle the fight against the priest she’d been matched up against but she knew there had to be a reason why Simon was going this far.

Above all the first priority was to protect Sasha. She knew she shouldn’t sacrifice the mission for our own sense of pride.

    “Alright! Just don’t push yourself.”

Meilyn turned around and ran off into the dark forest. Then she glanced back and shouted

“If you get hurt I’m going to kill you!”

    “…Haha.”

With that Meilyn left leaving the two to fight.

The priest let out a heavy sigh.

“Did you perhaps defeat sisters Lilinette and Ishtar?”

    “Yeap that’s right.”

“…That’s not a great help. Those two… Are they perhaps dead?”

    “I don’t know. I didn’t hold back though. Maybe they’re alive if they’re lucky.”

    “You must be strong then.”

She took the badge off her chest and brought it forward.

    “Then…”

A divine subspace opened from the badge and a small teddy-bear-shaped divine beast skipped its way out.

    “I won’t hold back either.”

Her face was full of confidence as she pressed her palm against the divine beast she had just summoned.

    Rrrrrrrrrumble!

The moment her divinity flowed into it the teddy bear quickly began to grow in size.

It was a huge muscular bear monster walking on all fours. It was pulsing with some kind of white energy.

“Consider it an honor. I shall fight you with my strongest divine beast Akalion.”

    She pointed forward and commanded

    “Go!”

And so the lumbering beast went. It charged at Simon like a wild bull.

    ‘…’

In response Simon got himself action-ready and started to prepare a curse.

    But then…

    Tatatatata tata… ta. tap.

Akalion who had been charging with enough force to level even trees gradually slowed before stopping right in front of Simon.

    “?”

Both Simon and the priest looked bewildered.

“A-Akalion? What are you doing?! Run him over!”

But Akalion didn’t obey her orders. Its eyes studied Simon with an intense curiosity. It slowly leaned in closer until…

    Slurp.

It began to lick Simon’s face with its tongue like an excited puppy.

“Wh-Wh-Wh-What are you doing?! What’s wrong with you??!”

The priest stamped her foot in anger but Akalion showed no sign of aggression toward Simon.

After an awkward pause Simon stretched out his arm and patted it on the head. Akalion snorted cheerfully seemingly liking it.

‘How did she do it again?’

As Simon stroked Akalion he channeled his divinity just like the priest did.

    Then…

    Fwoooooooosh!

Akalion burst into divine flames shining even greater than before. Akalion circled around Simon before standing beside him.

Then he snorted and glared at the priest warily.

    “This is crazy!”

The priest pulled at her hair in a panic.

“How does this make any sennnnnnnsssssssse??!!”
