    Chapter 270

Sea foam covered the surface of the water as the colossal monster duke and the comparatively tiny deimos zipped around in a deadly chase.

The undead whale was gracefully swimming forward as its tail propelled it and its brave passenger along.

But following closely behind it was a monster of enormous size the monster duke.

‘I can’t believe it can swim so fast when it’s so big!’

    [Boy! Another one! Behind you!]

After glancing behind him to see what Pier was talking about Simon immediately ducked down low.

The monster duke’s breath passed narrowly above him taking some hairs along with it. It was like a blue flash was tearing the sea open.

    ‘Ah.’

At that moment Simon realized something.

‘Its breath attack has slowed down.’

Of course the breath itself hadn’t slowed down but it felt slower to him. As he bordered death over and over again his nerves were working on overdrive and he began to focus intensely.

The world was slowing down for him.

    ‘It’s been a while.’

He was in pretty good condition.

Simon controlled the deimos and turned it around. As the once-fleeing creature suddenly changed direction the monster duke also slowed down seemingly surprised.

‘Now that things turned out this way…’

    Simon’s eyes turned cold.

‘Maybe I should just try to fight it properly.’

When the deimos opened its mouth a mana sphere swirled within it sucking in the surrounding seawater.

    ‘Tidal Cannon!’

Rivaling the attacks from a creature many times its size the deimos roared as it released the energy in its mouth the force exploding on part of the monster duke’s face. The duke grunted in pain then lunged at them with a renewed anger.

Simon didn’t back down either charging with the deimos as he sent a torrent of refined jet-black into the bones he was sitting on.

The jet-black coursed through the skeleton concentrating on the bones in the side fins. It sharpened the tip of the fin into a sharp blade.

    ‘Now!’

Just before the monster duke and deimos were about to collide the baby whale dove straight down stabbing its sharp dorsal fin into the monster duke’s stomach.

    Using that position…

    Slaaaaaaaaaash!

The deimos swam in a perfect curve following the duke’s stomach carving a red line into the gargantuan belly that filled the entire area with the metallic scent of blood.

    [Grrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!]

As the monster duke groaned in pain the deimos quickly escaped to the side with Simon on its back.

Simon smacked his lips in disappointment.

‘I can’t get a clean hit on it. It’s too big!’

The skeleton now on the other side of the duke darted away right underneath the surface of the water. Not to lose sight of them the monster duke dragged its massive body after them.

Using the massive size of the creature to his advantage Simon took the opportunity to fire a volley of smaller tidal cannons behind them.

The deimos’ mouth flashed with every shot sending wave after wave of high-speed water but the monster duke soaked up all of the attacks and charged in regardless.

Then soon it opened its mouth.

    ‘Descend!’

Zooming down yet another giant breath attack hit the area just above them tearing a hole in the ocean. Simon felt sick at the thought of taking a hit from one of those knowing that it could quite possibly tear through his barrier suit and kill him outright.

‘Now I only have one option left.’

He decided to leave the evasion entirely to his summon.

Simon closed his eyes and placed his hand on the deimos’ head. He could feel the whale’s summoning circle tied to his thoughts.

‘I need to find the thing that Diego was trying to somehow save…’

Tidal cannon wasn’t the only skill that deimoses had.

The real reason why deimoses were known as ‘Rulers of the Sea’…

Simon activated an unpowered formula in the corner of the summoning circle.

    Ba-thump!

He could feel the deimos’ consciousness expanding into his own. Thoughts raced through his mind and every nerve in his body was firing up.

    Ba-thump! Ba-thump!

    “Kughhhh!”

A painful groan escaped his lips from the enormous pressure of the skeleton pushing into his thoughts. The whole world felt distorted like an abstract painting.

    ‘…Concentrate!’

He didn’t care about the breath attack coming from behind him.

He focused solely on this moment so he could bring out everything the deimos had to offer.

Simon and the deimos’ jet-black simultaneously boiled.

[Boy! If you push yourself any harder there you’ll overload your mind!]

No Simon felt like he could do more.

He didn’t question it he didn’t look at his limits he didn’t draw a line he couldn’t cross.

He simply believed that he could do it.

    ‘I am…’

A surge of energy flowed through his head dragging his muddled thoughts all into one direction.

    Out.

Simon felt his consciousness expanding endlessly. He could sense all things all creation the whole world at his feet.

Simon’s pupils turned a brilliant gold.

    ‘Omnipotent.’

    Shatter.

Simon felt like a hole had been punched through the black ceiling containing his mind letting in an unknown sunlight.

    [Kssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!]

A sound came from within amplified by the summoning circle and carried through the deimos’ roar.

    Wriggle wriggle.

At the bottom of the sea.

    Above the surface.

    In undersea caverns.

    Beneath the rocks.

Countless creatures responded to the sound rising to the surface. Fish and monsters all converged to where the sound was made.

    “What’s going on?”

The students hunting in the outer sea backed away in horror. Countless schools of every possible kind of fish were hurtling past them.

    “Wh-Where are you going?!”

Meilyn hunting pulpae also froze as she saw the monsters she was fighting suddenly flee in the same direction as if possessed by something.

The other monsters did the same.

The empty sea that had been holding back its majesty at the appearance of the enormous force of death—the monster duke—suddenly began to pulsate with life and fill with beautiful colors and patterns.

    Whisper whisper!

The spectators watching with the observer’s screen went wild as well.

“C-C-Can you see this?! Do you have your eyes open? Everyone!!”

More excited than ever the MC shouted with his face turned red.

“What in the world is going on?! The fish and monsters of the sea have begun to move as if starting a mass migration!!”

Before the MC knew it the typically calm Jane was on her feet staring at the screen.

“Professor Jane! What in the world is…”

    “Deimos.”

    “What?”

    “Deimos is an ‘Alpha’.”

“A-Alpha? I’m not sure what you’re talking about! Is that some scientific term? Could you please explain so the audience can understa—!”

“It means it’s a being that has control over marine life!”

    Jane raised her voice.

Deimoses were called the ‘Rulers of the Sea’ not because of their strength and enormous size but because of the countless sea creatures that followed them like bodyguards.

    ‘However…’

The power to control the ocean ‘Alpha’ was unique to deimoses and it was known that the process of turning them into an undead nether whale took away the power of an Alpha.

‘How in the world did he recreate that power?’

    [Kiiiiiiiiish!]

    [Grrrg! Grrrrg!]

    [Pruuurrgh!]

Countless sea creatures of different shapes sizes and colors swam freely as one converging on Simon and the deimos.

It was like a huge beautiful rainbow was violently swirling around them.

Sublime. The only way it could be described is ‘sublime’.

Even the monster duke seemed baffled unable to approach. This swarm of marine life was bigger than it.

    ‘Alright.’

Feeling the presence of tens of thousands of entities Simon activated the deimos’ magic circle.

He only issued one of the simplest possible commands.

    [Follow me.]

    Koooorooooough!!!!

Moving as one all of the sea creatures swarmed toward the deimos being led by Simon to crash right into the monster duke.

Fish chewed the monster duke’s flesh and monsters like wulfs and gambans drove their sharp teeth into it. There was also the swarm of poison-spewing squid monsters the pulpae spewing poison.

The monster duke struggled in pain as every inch of exposed flesh was being attacked at once.

But the monster duke didn’t just sit back and take it.

Holes opened up all over his body like pores and white worm-like parasites popped out to fight the monsters and fish.

Then the monster duke itself looked around to find Simon and the deimos lunging at them with its mouth open wide.

    ‘Descend! Dodge it!’

Simon moved deeper the monster duke’s descending on them with its hungry maw as hundreds of thousands of fish and monsters trailing behind it. The sight was so wondrous that even the most talented artist would struggle to recreate its awe.

    “Kughh!”

The depths were getting too much for Simon’s body to handle. He activated his Jet-Black Operation and held on as long as he could.

At the same time the deimos—who had prepared another tidal cannon—turned around. It then charged toward the monster duke headed straight toward the open mouth.

    Boom!

    Boom!

    Boom!

Three tidal cannons exploded inside the monster duke’s mouth in succession creating a thick cloud of smoke as it burned flesh.

    Simon’s eyes flashed.

    ‘Cloud!’

Simon activated the magic circle he had been preparing on his back. Blue-green smoke billowed out and began to envelop the deimos.

The white whalebone shone like a brilliant emerald in the dark depths of the sea lighting up the ocean.

    ‘Get in there!’

Simon and the deimos went into the still-open mouth of the monster duke.

    ‘Forward!’

Commanded Simon holding onto his fading consciousness.

It was an act beyond human limits something no sane person could do but he pushed forward anyway.

All he could see was crimson.

Wherever there was an opening they dug it wide enough to move through and where there was a wall they tore it down.

As they moved the deimos unleashed a torrent of tidal cannons at any organ they came across before relentlessly ripping further into the dark depths.

Smashing and tearing through everything in his way Simon spotted a glimmer of light in the distance.

    ‘Over there!’

Finally forcing their way through the mass of flesh Simon and the deimos reached the light.

    Grrrugh!

They were in the water again.

Simon shook off all the blood and entrails on his body before looking back at what destruction they had left in their wake.

They had escaped through a tiny slit of the monster duke’s spine.

    And.

    Rumble!

The enormous monster duke was collapsing sinking down to the dark ocean floor.

    ‘Pant! Pant! Pant! Phew!’

Simon shuddered as he finally regained his senses. His recent memories felt foggy like they were more dream than reality.

He slowly looked at the tongue pad.

    The numbers didn’t lie.

    ‘I did it!’

His body tingled with immense pleasure.

    But Simon wasn’t satisfied yet.

He and the deimos rose to the surface followed by countless sea monsters and fish.

The sea shone with beautiful light.

    * * *

On a remote island in the open sea.

    Splash!

    Plop. Plop.

Surrounded by countless palm trees Hector equipped with the scales of his corpse dragon was coming ashore. He was soaked to the bone.

‘I’m gonna die out of exhaustion…’

It was a good thing he found an island along the way. He let out a long breath let the dragon’s scales drop to the ground so they could dry in the sun and picked up his tongue pad to check the rankings.

‘I’m pretty sure I’ve taken 1st place with this.’

He scrolled through the rankings from the bottom.

    4th place – Chatelle: 7980 Points

    Hector clicked his tongue.

‘This bastard seems like he can’t do anything in the water yet he’s near the top of the list.’

    3rd place – Elissa: 8100 Points

    Elissa of the Phantom Ship.

‘This woman builds ships using necromancy so it can’t be helped that her specialty is the ocean.’

    2nd place – Hector: 8240 Points

‘Why am I number two? You mean to say there’s someone else above me?’

Hector scrolled up in frustration to see who dared place above him. And then…

    “Kaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!”

He screamed in fiery rage throwing his tongue pad to the ground.

    1st place – Simon: 106850 Points
