Chapter 267
Waaaaaaaaaah!
A match between two big names was starting.
The crowd couldn’t hide their excitement as Simon and Laheim each an S.A. faced each other on the main screen.
Getting pulled along with the crowd’s excitement the MC shouted while stepping up onto the table
“What a match when the test has only barely begun! Special Admission No.8 Laheim who became the Lord of Snowfield Castle as a teenager and Special Admission No.1 Simon Polential the one who came first place in the first BDMAT and was impossible to ignore in the second!”
The MC turned to look at his co-host.
“Professor Jane what do you think of this pairing? As it happens it features two of the students you’ve told us to ‘watch out for’ in this test!”
Jane frowned staring at the MC’s foot on the table then replied with a sigh
“I would say that Mr. Laheim is at the advantage as of now.”
“Ah of course! And I’d love to know why you think so!”
“Although he has recently played an active role with curses and hemomancy Simon’s base is still summoning. The sea is the greatest challenge for summoners.”
“You’re absolutely right! The statistics show that Summoning aspirants are struggling greatly!”
Most of the Summoning aspirants had given up on summoning and were using other disciplines of dark magic to take the exam.
Of course their capabilities were greatly reduced since they couldn’t use their specialty. There was already talk in the crowd that most of the eliminated students would be Summoning aspirants.
“I’m curious to see how Simon will overcome the limitations of summoning! Stay tuned!”
* * *
Splash! Splash!
Simon was frantically swimming away. Laheim was running after him from atop the floating platforms firing wave after wave of Golden Snow compressed into bombs after Simon.
Booom! Booom!
Each bomb shook the water surface and pushed Simon along in an unnatural current.
‘Hmph I don’t want to use deimos already for a guy like him though.’
Simon figured he’d just try his best and hold out as long as possible. He held his breath and dove under the water.

Bubble!
As he dove and fled Laheim continued his relentless attack from above. The bombs broke through the surface and expanded quickly into blankets of lethal snow seemingly unaffected by the water.
‘He’s already thought about the underwater side of things I see.’
Simon found the nearest group of students and moved behind them figuring that Lahiem would hesitate turning so many necromancers against him.
But Laheim just kept firing aiming at Simon and any other student who got in his way.
The students hit by the snow bombs began to sink down into the depths of the sea as if they had iron weights tied to their legs.
“Gasp! What is this?”
“It’s coming from above!”
Just then Simon surfaced gasping for breath and shouted to the frazzled students
“It’s Laheim!”
“Laheim?”
“If it’s Laheim he’s one of the ones who’s collected 10 coins already!”
“Go after him first!”
The counterattack from the sea began. As spells were flung up from the depths toward Laheim he frowned as he had to focus on evasion.
“That rat bastard…!”
Using the distraction Simon had disappeared again.
“Phew!”
Simon snuck away with a quick dive and went up onto another floating platform. He let out a small sigh while running a hand through his damp hair.
‘A necromancer who can fight both on land and sea. That’s tricky.’
It was as he was about to stand up having barely caught his breath…
Slam!
Laheim shot through the air like a crashing comet and crashed down onto the platform Simon was on.
“Why are you running?”
As he crashed down onto one side of the platform the other side began tilting up from the sudden force.
‘Whoa!’
Simon crouched down low narrowly keeping his balance.
“I thought we were going to have a duel putting Meilyn at stake Jumon Bolendis!”
Simon blinked his eyes.
“What? I’m Simon Polentia.”
“Just understand this.”
He grinned pulling his white swim cap down tight.
“I’m going to fail you on this test and make sure Meilyn only looks at me from now on. It doesn’t matter where you run Zemon Volentona!”
“…You’re getting my name weirder by the minute.”
“The only name I need to remember is Meilyn Villenne!”
Laheim banged his chest.
“Anyway! I’m going to somehow make you one of the 50 eliminations. Even if you bother to come back in half an hour I’ll just kill you again!”
“…Uh uhm. Okay?”

“But there’s one way that allows you to stay in Kizen!”
A greedy smirk formed on his face.
“Swear to me. That you’ll never have feelings toward Meilyn again and that you’ll never appear in front of Meilyn and me! Swear it in front of the crowd who’s watching through Kizen’s observers!”
At this point Simon was starting to get worried about Laheim.
“I’m sorry but do you need therapy or something? You seem to have a lot you need to work through.”
“How dare you a mere student insult the Lord of Snowfield Castle!”
Laheim clenched his fists and pulled them to his sides and the floating platform they were both on began to creak and tilt again.
He had created more Gold Snow at his feet.
Simon forced himself to focus on his left foot as the ground beneath him shifted.
‘Open!’
Fwip!
Fwoooosh!
Six blades shot out simultaneously but Laheim jumped off the platform first.
‘…Let’s just not mind the weird names.’
The platform flipped over throwing Simon into the sea.
He tried to swim back up but Laheim didn’t give him a chance to rest firing projectile after projectile.
As Simon barely dodged each ball of snow he felt something pressing against his back. The platform above was getting weighed down enough to begin to sink and it was dragging Simon down with it.
‘Kuhugh!’
It was too heavy and too fast. He wasn’t going to be able to swim out.
Simon clenched his fist so hard it turned white then dark blue. Jet-black whirled within until the fist shone with black and blue radiance.
{Hong Feng Original Drum Beating}
Katooooooosh!
A huge hole opened up in the platform as he slammed his fist back into it and Simon shot through it.
He breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the platform descend to the bottom of the ocean with him safely out of the way.
However the fight was far from over.
Splash!
Simon could see Laheim diving into the water. As the guy began frantically searching for Simon the other students—blinded by greed from just how many coins he was carrying—attacked him.
‘Just how thoughtless can he be? Well it’s good for me.’
While Laheim fought off the other students Simon leisurely made his way to the surface finding another floating platform and swimming toward it.
‘If he chases me again I guess I can’t help but—’
[Boy! He’s coming from below!]
Laheim was swimming up after him ignoring the other students.
Bubbles could be seen at his feet where a magic circle was forming.
‘I guess it can’t be helped Pier.’
Things hadn’t gone as planned but there was nothing he could do about it.
Simon determined his resolve and stood up tall on his platform.
‘I’ll bring it out.’
[Kuhehehe!]
Simon jumped up boosting himself with jet-black. Not a moment later the platform he was standing on sank into the sea. Laheim had thrown a volley of snow bombs at it.
While Simon was helpless in the air Laheim jumped out of the water.
Then he shouted as he spotted Simon
“It’s all over now!”
Eight magic circles formed around Laheim.
Students floated in the water nearby in stunned silence. The spectators watching on the main screen waited with baited breath.
It was like the whole world was watching to see what Simon would do next.
So Simon still in the air leisurely moved his arm back and pulled open his massive subspace.
Rrrruuuummmbbbllleeeee!
The sound alone reminiscent of opening a giant castle gate left many with their jaws dropped to the floor. Laheim hastily stopped charging forward.
The figure that appeared from the subspace was…
“A-A monster?”
It was the skeleton of a large whale over five meters in length.
It had a long skull with a row of deadly teeth separating the weighty lower and upper jaw. Attaching the heavy head to the rest of the body was a thick spine that moved with such force that anything placed between the vertebrae would be crushed.
On the top of the powerful spine was an artificial dorsal fin positioned to connect to the back and to be lined up properly with the two pectoral fins that extended from its chest. Finally a sweeping tail kicked out behind it and everyone watching knew they didn’t want to be on its business end.
It really did look just like the skeleton’s flesh and blood counterpart only bonier.
Simon hopped onto the creature and waved at Laheim who looked dumbfounded.
Craaaaaash!
As Simon and the deimos dove into the water a mountain of water erupted. Laheim having nowhere to run was knocked off his feet as it slammed through him.
“Waaaaaah!”
“What is that?”
The students looked at Simon riding the deimos with panic all over their faces.
Riding a skeletal whale and crossing the ocean at the speed of light was truly a necromancer’s dream.
[Kuhahahahaha!! I love it! This is great!!]
Shouted Pier enjoying the speed.
A smile formed at Simon’s mouth as well. He was moving at a speed incomparable to swimming by himself.
Of course it also attracted a lot of attention. Many of the watching students started firing dark magic at him but they couldn’t match the deimos’ speed.
“You bastard!”
Laheim followed him into the water. The magic circle at his feet began to churn with an increased ferocity and began to bubble.
Whirr! Whirr! Whirr! Whirr!
Once again eight magic circles formed around Laheim firing even more volleys of Golden Snow. When they hit the water the homing effect added to their magic circle kicked in and they tracked after the deimos.
‘So you’re going that far huh?’
Simon connected with the deimos’ thoughts and moved even faster
Swoooooooooooosh!
The skeleton charged through the ocean while freely changing directions and Laheim’s projectiles trailed closely behind.
Everyone’s jaws dropped only able to watch as summon and many seeking bombs maneuvered at high speed carving through the ocean like it was nothing.
‘Crazy.’
‘Are they taking a different test or something?’
The students watching were dumbfounded.
‘Faster faster!’
Simon’s concentration accelerated.
Six of the eight projectiles broke down in the middle unable to withstand the pressure of the water but the two remaining persistently followed. The deimos was close to the surface and Simon saw a floating platform just above.
‘Now!’
It made a sharp turn just before the platform and the final two projectiles slammed into the obstacle getting destroyed.
‘It worked!’
The elated deimos surfaced and leaped.
[Bwoooooooooooooooooooooh!]
The components of its magic circle clashed and scraped together emitting a sound that resembled an animal roaring.
The eyes of every student on the surface turned to the giant skeletal whale in the air and to Simon riding it.
Droplets of water glinting in the sunlight around it the scene was like a painter’s masterpiece.
“Wooooooooaaaaaaaah!”
Of course the crowd on Roke Island also went wild.
“This is amazing! This is truly amazing! He’s found something new yet again! Simon Polentia is using a skeleton in the sea!”
Boomed the announcer in giddy joy. Jane quietly took out a handkerchief and wiped the droplets of spit off her arm.
“What in the world is that Professor?! How can a skeleton be so fast in the sea?”
“It’s a baby deimos. The adult is a level 8 monster and they are considered the rulers of the sea.”
Jane recognized it of course.
“The corpse is the only thing capable of becoming the special undead known as a ‘nether whale’. I have never seen a skeleton version either.”
“Ahhh! I see! That’s amazing! To think he had prepared such a thing for underwater combat!”
As the two of them commentated on what was going on Simon and the deimos began to descend once more. Many students fired spells after them but not one of them was able to match the insane speed.
Only Laheim was persistently following them.
Soon Laheim pulled his arms in front of himself forming eight magic circles around his body again.
Simon looked back at him then turned the deimos to face Laheim and the other students.
‘Let’s show them deimos!’
As Simon ordered an absolute command the whale’s mouth opened and the jet-black within it began to ripple with a terrifying force.
A powerful current formed in front of Simon and water began to get sucked into the creature’s mouth.
Whirrrrrrrrrr!
‘What the!’
Laheim paused briefly. What formed in the boney whale’s mouth shone with the intensity of a rising sun.
{Tidal Cannon}
The water shook and with a roar containing the ferocity of a thousand lions the deimos released the energy stored within it.
Everything went still for a moment.
Then disaster.
A massive wave of water crashed forward threatening everything from the surface to the ocean floor. The eight new bombs Lahiem had prepared were sent flying and the core of the tidal cannon struck directly into its target. Lahiem.
“…!”
Kaaaaaaaaboooooooooom!
A massive explosion rocked the sea. Simon glanced at the tongue pad in his arm and saw dozens of students being eliminated.
‘Whewww!’
Simon clenched his fist in exhilaration. The deimos connected to his thoughts followed roaring out as it claimed its place as ruler of the sea.
