Chapter 5: One Round, All Gone (1 / 2)
by Jessie@AFNCC
At the front gate were the guards Xia Zhi Lan had brought. The man didn’t want to cause any conflict, so he had no choice but to sneak out with Huang Mao by climbing over the wall.
They arrived at a courtyard in the western suburbs, and soon a few people came out to greet them.
The man looked at them, and memories of this body rushed back.
The leader was called Song Zi Qiang, a local small-time thug who was well known. Luo Yi had met him through Huang Mao.
The tall, thin guy next to him was Zou Jiu, the group’s strategist. He was the one who always came up with plans on how to scam Luo Yi’s money and still make it seem legit.
The other two burly guys, the man didn’t know their names, just their nicknames: Lao Hu (Tiger) and Xie Zi (Scorpion). They were the top enforcers of the gang and had pretty solid skills.
There was also one, a small, wiry guy with a sharp, monkey-like face, like a throwback ancestor.
This guy was called Duo Hou (Monkey Grabber), an expert in gathering intelligence. In Da Xia City, there was nothing he couldn’t find out.
These people were core members of the Ju Xian Gang.
The Ju Xian Gang was the name the gang had given themselves.
Even someone like the man, who had no regard for rules or laws, felt that these people were shameless.
A bunch of thugs who spent their days bullying people and avoiding real work, yet they had the nerve to call themselves the “Ju Xian Gang.”
Of course, the gang got that name because of Luo Yi.
Back then, these guys had used Luo Yi’s position as the Young Master of Luo Tianfu to crush all their competitors.
That’s how they ended up with over a hundred members now.
“Yi Zi’s here.” Song Zi Qiang waved at Luo Yi with a grin.
The man smirked coldly.
When they first met, Song Zi Qiang had tried every possible way to suck up to Luo Yi. But after figuring out Luo Yi’s personality, he started calling him “Yi Zi” to show off his status in the Ju Xian Gang.
Song Zi Qiang draped an arm around Luo Yi’s shoulder and pointed at the large courtyard. “Yi Zi, this place was just bought by Qiang Ge not long ago. From now on, it’ll be our brothers’ hangout spot.”
The man smiled and looked over the courtyard, subtly avoiding Song Zi Qiang’s arm. This courtyard was probably bought with money from Luo Yi’s pocket.
“Qiang Ge, didn’t you say there was a sucker to scam?” The man didn’t waste time.
“Heh.” Seeing Luo Yi was so eager, Song Zi Qiang smiled and said, “This guy is the son of a rich merchant from out of town. No real connections, just a rich idiot. Today, we’re going to hit him big.”
Following Song Zi Qiang into the courtyard, the man quickly spotted the so-called sucker. If the memories of this body were right, this guy was just some small fry in the Ju Xian Gang.
Song Zi Qiang and his crew were really playing Luo Yi like a fool!
The man spoke bluntly, “Qiang Ge, I was in a hurry and didn’t bring any cash. Lend me five thousand to play, I’ll pay you back later.”
“Yi Zi, why are you being so polite with me?” Song Zi Qiang laughed as he pulled out a stack of silver bills from his pocket and shoved them into Luo Yi’s hand. “This five thousand is for you to play with. If you lose, don’t worry, I’ll lend you more.”
“Thanks, Qiang Ge.”
No more small talk, the group gathered around a big round table. The game was simple, just dice.
The rules were also straightforward: one person would be the banker, while the others could bet on big or small, odd or even, with a 1:1 payout.
Another way to play was to guess the dice point, with a 1:10 payout.
But hardly anyone played that way since guessing the exact point was way too hard.
The game began, and the “sucker” took the first turn as the banker.
He fumbled with the dice cup, looking inexperienced, then slammed it down hard.
“Five hundred, bet on even,” Song Zi Qiang was the first to place his bet.
“Heh heh, Qiang Ge, I’m betting two hundred on double,” Huang Mao snickered.
“You yellow-haired idiot, think you can win money off Qiang Ge? I’m betting three hundred on even,” Duo Hou placed his bet.
Soon, Lao Hu and Xie Zi, as well as Zou Jiu, all placed their bets—some on odd/even, others on big/small.
“Yi Zi, what are you betting on?” Song Zi Qiang looked at Luo Yi.
The man knew that Luo Yi always bet big when gambling, so without hesitation, he placed a thousand on even.
“Qiang Ge, I remember you’ve never won a bet in your life. Sigh, following Qiang Ge, I’ll be starving three meals a day. I’ll bet with Huang Mao instead!” The man shook his head in mock disbelief.
“You Yi Zi…” Song Zi Qiang was momentarily stunned, then burst out laughing.
When the dice were revealed, it was 3-5-5, odd.
“Hahaha, looks like I’m lucky today. Won five hundred right off the bat,” Song Zi Qiang laughed loudly.
In the following rounds, Song Zi Qiang’s luck was insane, hitting 6 out of 8 times, making everyone jealous of his luck.
The man had wins and losses, but overall, he lost more than he won.
At first, everyone was playing by the book, but after about ten rounds, the man started to notice something strange.
No matter what he bet—odd/even or big/small—he never won once.
The others, except for Song Zi Qiang, all lost, shaking their heads and sighing, looking regretful. They looked like they could have made a career as actors.
Soon, the man had lost everything. Acting all worked up, he turned to Song Zi Qiang, “Qiang Ge, lend me twenty thousand more.”
Seeing this, Song Zi Qiang said, “Yi Zi, consider that five thousand a gift for you to play. But brothers are brothers, for the rest, let’s stick to the old rule and write an IOU.”
