    Chapter Index

The nighttime mountain breeze is a bit lonesome.

    It’s still a little cold.

Blowing the sea of trees rustles and presses the heads of the grasses low.

It had been a long time since the Xu system had had an experience like this; when they lived in Ellenson City, except for the first year when they were forced to slum, they had lived in warm courtyards from then on.

Even in the harshest of winters, steam equipment provides plenty of warmth.

    Good on.

Despite the destruction of the courtyard and the annihilation of Ellenson, the Xu system was still able to use fire magic, and with the activation of the level 3 magic Fire Warmth, a light red barrier shielded the camp.

The cold is banished, the strong winds are blocked, and warmth returns to this world once again.

    “Mentor, please.”

The calm sounds like an evenly flowing river.

The rhythms are serene, calm and steady, clearly without any ups and downs, but with a unique beauty.

There was only one possessor of this kind of voice that System Xu recognized.

    “Hard work, Krysia.”

The Xu system took the hot soup from the girl.

The hot soup, which was piping hot and had splashes of oil floating on the surface, had a lot of ingredients in it, and the thick amount of meat alone stuffed the small soup bowl tightly.

    The odor is slightly pungent.

It seems to be in consideration of the cold nights.

Add some cold repellent adjuncts to it.

Without those lamps in the courtyard, the light was inevitably dim, and Xu System turned the soup bowl in his hand, adjusting the angle several times before he could see the hot soup clearly with the bright light of the campfire, and realized that the surface had been sprinkled with crushed leaves of the Fire Leaf Grass.

It’s a pungent plant, popular with people in the wizarding world.

“Gulp-“, taking a small, light sip, the hot soup first flowed over the tip of his tongue, then slowly fell into his throat, and straightened up all the way to his stomach.

Department Xu could clearly feel that his body heated up all of a sudden.

    Fireweed is highly effective.

“Very well done, Krysia, your cooking is getting better and better”, a smile appeared on Xu’s face as he complimented the magical girl beside him, who was waiting for her evaluation.

Kryssa’s not exactly gifted as a cook, and once had an embarrassing incident where the kitchen exploded.

    But she knows the shame.

After four years of non-stop hard work.

Her cooking skills finally reaped success and possessed a decent standard, and of course, the Xu system’s stomach possessed a decent poison resistance, a windfall of sorts.

“Yes, thank you for the compliment.”

Kryssa stood silently, her long gray-silver hair all the more mysterious in the bleak night, silhouetted by the campfire with a flowing smoothness.

The original clothes that had been burned through by the flames had long since been replaced with the black and white magical apprentice outfit from before.

    Due to the wide robes.

It still fits the grown-up witch when she wears it.

Then, Krysia, who had been complimented, as if she had finally accomplished something, scooped up the same bowl of broth for herself and sat down beside the Xu system to eat quietly.

    Spoons and forks were used.

To this day, chopsticks remain a lifelong enemy of the Witch and cannot be used well.

There’s something funny about a scene like that, and every time I see it, I can’t help but laugh out loud.

“It always seems that you are thinking of something very bad.”

The witch’s intuition was surprisingly sharp.

    “That would be Krysia’s delusion.”

    The Xu system responded calmly.

    Is that right?

The girl cocked her head in bewilderment.

It could be, after all, her master had little reason to lie to her, and with that thought in mind, she buried her head in the bowl again, taking small bites and chewing on the cooked meat.

Teeth snapping off chunks of meat, tongue curling around hot soup.

A cold dinner for just two people begins.

Tonight, more than ever before, it seemed cold and silent, a complete open-air setting, with neither warm, cozy steam nor bright enough glass lamps.

    But.

The Xu system doesn’t hate this kind of atmosphere.

“Hoo-“, lips pressed to the rim of the bowl, blowing gently to make the hot, freshly brewed soup mild before taking small sips into her belly.

The heat erupted from the body and flowed to all the limbs.

Bringing a little warmth to this dreary night.

    “Such an experience is rare.”

Xu System thought to himself that perhaps it would be hard to see such a scene if he searched the entire magical world.

A great wizard in his mid-twenties with a sixteen year old witch, sitting squatting together on a remote hilltop, eating broth without a care in the world.

No matter how one thinks about it.

The picture is all a little bit outrageous.

    “Splat …… splat…”

Sparks burst and dead branches burn.

By the campfire, a large and a small shadow were stretched out, blending evenly into the darkness of the night, blending in with the shadows of the flowers and trees, indistinguishable from each other.

Dinner was eaten quickly, the two weren’t very hungry themselves, it was just a special meal made for the sake of maintaining energy and calories.

Kryssa stood up and volunteered to use water and wind magic to scrub the stains off the boiler and dishes.

This is not only efficient, but also convenient.

It’s not the first time she’s done this.

    Very skillful.

The gusts of wind swirled the currents, easily scraping the grease from the surface of the utensils, at a cost to the young girl of only some magic.

This was also the reason why, while Krysia took the initiative to take charge of many of the household chores, the Xu system did not object to it; it was not that he deliberately made the girl suffer, but with the presence of magic, everything would become much easier.

“Krysia, come here for a second.”

The late-night wind became more howling.

The whimpering in his ears went on and on.

Xu System glanced in the direction of Ellenson City, where fires still burned, the unquenchable light of the fires especially striking in the night, and even more heavy demonic shadows raging.

But all in all, everything was normal, nothing out of the ordinary.

    And so.

The Xu system summoned the girl to her side.

He wanted to check Kryssa’s eyes, there was definitely something very wrong with the half-golden, half-dark pupils compared to the usual pale gold color.

In fact, as early as the rendezvous with Krysia, Department Xu had sensed that something was wrong.

It was just a tight situation and I didn’t have time to check it out.

Now, he finally had time to explore a bit.

“Krysia, sit across from me and let me look into your eyes.”

    “I understand, Mentor.”

The girl was obedient, calmly sitting directly opposite Xu System, and under the illumination of the campfire, Xu System could clearly see the delicate features, as well as the slight movement of her nose as she breathed.

The witch seemed eager to help the Xu system.

So she struggled to keep her eyes open.

Only, paired with that joyless face, it looked more or less dull.

“I’ll do it, Krysia”, listening to the words of the Xu system, the young girl obediently stopped that unnecessary effort and sat quietly in her place.

    Next.

Xu’s left hand uses light magic to release a level 0 Illumination spell.

At a brightness that won’t hurt your eyes.

    Slowly, she approached Krysia.

With his right hand, he extended his thumb and forefinger to manually flick open the girl’s tender eyelids, revealing the fragile eyeballs within.

In the past, the witch’s eyes were a light golden color with a brilliant beauty, but now, what Xu System saw was not only golden, but also a deep, dark black.

It occupies the center of the pupil of the eye quite abruptly.

The gold parts, the black parts, the gap between the two is so wide that it’s like forcing things that are completely unrelated to each other to be sewn together.

But one thing is the same.

They all clearly reflected the figure of the Xu system.

    As before, unchanged.
