    Chapter Index

    “Sir, did we win ……”

    “Well, win.”

The sun was on fire, like a crimson halo of blood.

    Calmness reflects on the earth.

Illuminating the bleakness of that sad elegy, and the many blades stuck upside down in the snow.

The corpses were paved into a front road for the living to continue on, capture the towers, gather the remnants of the army, and take the pass.

At this point, the battle is over.

“It’s so good ……,” the dragon lance penetrated the earth, like the roots of a tenaciously growing plant, rooted in the blood-soaked battlefield.

Wu Ying Xue just sat there, leaning on the gun and paralyzed.

Her face was covered in blood, and there was a wound at her forehead, from which bright red blood continuously flowed out, staining the hair in front of her forehead and her whitened lips.

Smiling down, yet more blood flowed from her mouth and mouth, drop by drop, blooming to soak her clothes.

    It hurts.

    It’s weak.

Teenage girls are the newest precursors.

Inexperienced and unskilled, it was only by relying on the grade of the Green Dragon’s astral energy that he could barely press his opponent to victory.

This was already outstanding enough, after all, the opponent was an innate martial artist who had fought for many years.

For this reason, the teenage girl truly means it and fights for every ounce of energy she has.

So much so that the fight is over now.

All she could do was sit helplessly paralyzed in place, watching the sun set in the west and sitting back to watch the darkness fall, but unable to move a single inch.

    “Snap-“

    “Snap-“

There was the sound of footsteps, the snow layer and mud being trampled at the same time, and Wu Ying Xue barely managed to open her eyes, giving a laborious smile to the visitor.

    “Sir, I won.”

    She said.

“I saw that, Ying Xue, you did a good job.”

The Xu system spoke in a warm voice.

    Crouch down.

Reaching out with his palm to wipe the blood from the girl’s face, he proceeded to assist the girl’s body so that she could get back on her feet.

    “Wait, wait!”

The young girl’s eyes suddenly widened.

What was she thinking of being stubborn at this point.

“Sir, there’s no need to help me, I can stand up alone!”

Wu Ying Xue’s voice was so believable.

Pushing away from the Xu system’s palm, he stepped forward himself, and-

    “Gulp.”

    “Gulp.”

The fiery red figure, with legs softly planted in place, rolled several times in the snow before coming to a halt.

    Ah Grin ……

The delicate face was full of confusion.

The red and white power suit robes now looked even dirtier after rolling around in the snow.

    There were snow flurries.

It floated down from the air and landed impartially on the tip of the young girl’s nose.

    “Ouch.”

The young girl, who was lying in a large shape in the snow, finally spat out such a word, looking much more honest.

Xu System was rather helpless and once again reached out his hand towards the young girl, but this time, instead of choosing to assist the young girl, he chose to directly carry her.

    “Stay down and don’t move.”

    “Yes, sir.”

At the sound of Wu Ying Xue’s response.

Carrying the young girl on his back, System Xu pulled up the dragon lance on the ground again and headed towards the interior of the pass.

Behind him, there were many, many more stragglers and starving people, following into the pass, into a future where they could live.

    The sunset is broken.

Cracked by a pair of cloth shoes stained with yellow soil and silt.

    The cold wind is scattered.

    Blocked by a ragged figure.

The setting sun is like molten gold pouring down on the earth, quickly swept away the last remaining light, turned into a starry, twinkling high in the night sky.

    “Sir.”

The Xu system was walking when a young girl’s voice came from behind.

She lay quietly on her back, anchoring herself to Xu’s back in a position where her arms were wrapped around Xu’s neck.

The voice wondered, “How many ratings can I have this time today?”

The Xu system pondered for a moment and gave the answer, “B class.”

“B class? It’s an improvement from last time.”

Wu Ying Xue laughed lightly a few times.

    Seems happy.

However, her body was really weak, so much so that when she laughed and laughed, she inexplicably coughed, so she obediently closed her mouth again, burying her head in the Xu system’s shoulder.

It always feels, well, down to earth ……

Such thoughts popped into Wu Ying Xue’s mind.

She listens to the Xu system very well.

Didn’t think about going against it.

It had been obediently lying on Xu System’s back, avoiding affecting Xu System’s walking.

But that doesn’t mean, girls can’t do other things.

“……”, she squinted her eyes, narrowing them into slits as she stared at the Xu system’s neck in a very cute gesture of observation.

Then another curious look was cast between the ears of the Xu system.

Watch the cold wind shake the black hair.

Then, like a child too, she blew lightly into Xu’s hair, laughing at the way it swayed as she blew on it.

“The stars tonight, they’re so pretty ……”

Laughing and smiling, Wu Ying Xue, who was lying on Xu Department’s back, suddenly realized that tonight’s starry sky was exceptionally bright.

There were no snow drifts to block the view.

There are no dark clouds streaking across the sky.

The vastness of the stars, intermingled in the girl’s eyes, was so bright, so striking.

It was much brighter than the night of the origami flowers.

Delicate, like a calm river flowing through the night sky.

Flickering, as if a small sun was glowing.

“Sir, I remember you saying that there are thousands and thousands of stars in the sky?”

“Well, as I said, what’s wrong?”

    “It’s okay.”

The young girl was carried behind Xu System’s back, letting out a hefty laugh, “I just wanted to try and count them one by one to see if there were really that many.”

    You can’t count the stars.

The stars are so infinite that the human eye inevitably misjudges them.

But inexplicably, the young Sheriff, who had lost everything, was tempted to try it that way.

    And so.

She begged the Xu system to help her remember along.

    Foolishly, I started counting stars.

    “One, two, two, three, four.”

“Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, not right.”

“One, two, three, four, five ……”

The sky is full of bright stars, the Milky Way drops endless glitter, the darkness of the world, by the stars opened up a bright road ahead.

With this, Xu System carried the girl on his back and walked into the interior of the pass, heading deeper into the thirteen states of Da Qian.

    That sound of counting stars.

    Weakening with time.

It gets softer and more exhausting until it shifts completely to a light snore.

Wu Ying Xue counted stars until she fell asleep.

Xu System’s footsteps paused slightly, then advanced at a more subtle pace while, at the same time, murmuring a number under his breath, “One thousand, three hundred and thirty-five.”

This is the number the girl counted before she went to bed.

    Truth be told.

Keeping track of that number is pointless.

When the next night came, it was impossible for the girl to remember which stars had been counted; she had to start from the beginning.

But she had begged the Xu system so much, so Xu system took note of it in passing.

    “Strange, is it an illusion?”

“It always seems like there are two particularly bright stars tonight.”

    The Xu system looked up.

Two stars were found close together in the vast starry sky, and at the same time bright, illuminating the otherwise dark road ahead for him and the young girl.

    ……

    “The battle is over.

    “You have won.

[This is an incredible feat, a triumph that shatters everyone’s sense of perspective.]

[You led a bunch of mudbloods, mudbloods who knew nothing, nothing at all, and managed to break through one of the Great Qian’s gates, and went along into the interior of the Great Qian]

[On the way there are stars shining brightly]

[Illuminating the thorny road ahead for you]

[You think to yourself, “Maybe this is the silly star-counting girl, bringing you good luck.”]

[It’s just that, if only the maiden were lighter, you’d carry her on your back all night and let out a deep sigh.]
