I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 98

“Who was it? “It became a hot topic because a famous idol went to law school.”

    “…Idol? iced coffee.”

Hanseol tilted his head and tapped his knee as if he remembered something.

“Are you talking about Chae Song-ha? From ‘Black Rose’.”

That was a name I remembered.

    ‘I did something.’

Chae Song-ha is a character who appears in another episode around the first semester of the second year of the original work.

Originally she was the leader of an idol group called ‘Black Rose’. Unknown rookies who debuted at small agencies.

But one day one of their songs went viral on the Internet and they quickly became famous appearing everywhere.

But no sooner had the guns exploded than a crisis arrived.

A legal dispute related to copyright arose between the group and the composer’s agency and the dispute escalated into the worst outcome the disbandment of Black Rose.

    ‘It can happen.’

Celebrities may seem great but idols are ultimately children in their late teens to early to mid-twenties.

There is bound to be a lack of knowledge and experience to deal with these problems skillfully.

Even in the real entertainment industry isn’t it common for there to be some noise caused by reluctantly accepting contracts that may be problematic?

Chae Song-ha who was faced with an unexpected disbandment declared in an interview with the media.

    – I’m going to law school.

This all happened because of ignorance of the law. Another problem was that there were no adults around to lend a helping hand in time.

So I will become a person who can equip myself with knowledge and provide help to juniors who are in similar situations when the time comes.

It was a statement of such ambition.

Public opinion was split in half.

Although there were many people who sympathized with and supported their story there were also a significant number of people who were skeptical.

There are many cases where prestigious university students who sit and study all day fail at the LEET entrance exam but what can a former idol who has devoted his life to honing his entertainment skills do if he prepares late?

Some even claimed that the interview itself was just a part of image making or topic-raising.

“But as if laughing at those who ridiculed me I proudly applied to law school. “I just got an article and it was really cool.”

Hanseol shook his head in admiration.

“But Chae Song-ha is appearing in this competition?”

However it was a little surprising to me.

“I don’t think I saw it in the preliminaries video.”

I watched the preliminaries videos of all the teams participating in the finals regardless of Detective Min.

This is to analyze the opponent’s strategy and to watch and learn if there is a team worth learning from.

However I had no memory of seeing Chae Song-ha’s name or face during that process.

In the first place her participation was never depicted in the legal argument competition part of the original work.

I thought it was just a rumor but Lee Ha-ru hesitated and held out a document.

“It’s here. Chae Song-ha first year student at Kyungnam University Law School.”

    “Is it true?”

What was in Haru Lee’s hands was a list of participating teams and members for the final round of this legal argument contest.

It’s not that it wasn’t but Chae Song-ha’s name was prominently featured as a member of the Kyungnam University Law School civil affairs team.

“Kyungnam University’s civil affairs division… Oh you won by default. That’s why there was no video.”

I checked the competition website data room once again and nodded.

In the case of Kyungnam University Law School it was written that there was no preliminary video because there were no other participating teams and the national team was decided through a bye.

    ‘That’s right.’

It seemed like it was right to participate.

However I didn’t feel any interest from him beyond simple gossip.

The fact that it wasn’t described in the original work probably means that I was eliminated relatively early and the fields are different between criminal and civil so it was a story that had nothing to do with me.

Lee Ha-ru who actually spoke probably only mentioned it in passing but quickly changed the subject.

In that way the matter about Chae Song-ha was quickly forgotten in my mind. Surprisingly I tend not to remember unimportant things.

There is a limit to human brain volume.

In order to insert even one more character the dummy data had to be quickly erased.

“Let’s go when you’ve finished eating.”

    I put down my fork.

“There is a place I must go today.”

    * * *

4th floor East Building Seoul Central District Court.

As soon as you get off the elevator you will be greeted by a large banner that says ‘Jain Court Argument Contest Main Final Contest’.

Although it is called a competition hall it was originally used as a real court.

The three courts on the fourth floor were scheduled to hold competitions in the criminal field and the three courts on the third floor were scheduled to host contests in the civil field.

However the places we were heading to now were not the courts that would be used as the main competition venue.

The fourth court is located right next to it.

“Are you participating in the finals?”

When we reached the entrance a court official in charge of information spoke to us.

“This is the Korean University Law School national team.”

After registering as a participant and handing over the pass I received the official nodded and opened the door.

“Devices 4 7 and 8 are empty. There are cautions attached so please read them and use them safely.”

I said thank you and went inside.

Then a somewhat unfamiliar scene unfolded in the courthouse.

“…I thought I was at a gaming event.”

Lee Ha-ru let out a quiet exclamation.

The fourth courtroom was fully equipped with VR experience devices.

Most of them were already in use by passengers. They are probably all finalists like us.

“and! Treadmill! “Seeing it in real life for the first time!”

Lee Ha-ru who was unusually excited rushed to the empty machine.

    “Treadmill?”

“I’m talking about this treadmill-like footrest. “Fix your waist like this.”

The VR device in question had a black pillar next to a round footrest that rose up to about a person’s waist and a band was attached to the end of the pillar to secure the body.

Lee Ha-ru jumped up onto the step and fastened the band attached to the device to her waist.

Because he was so small the band had to be tightened quite a bit.

Lee Ha-ru who had fixed her body like that slid her feet on the footrest and tried to walk in place.

“The footrest recognizes your steps and allows you to move in virtual reality.”

In this way even if the user moves freely while viewing virtual reality accidents such as hitting a wall and getting hurt can be prevented.

    “I know.”

    “Cancer. “It’s like a gamer’s dream.”

“We’re not here to play games though.”

These VR facilities were provided for participants to experience in advance so that they could become familiar with the virtual reality devices before taking the finals.

This consideration was based on the judgment that since it was the first newspaper material introduced in this year’s competition it would inevitably be unfamiliar to students.

In fact I heard that people who use VR devices for the first time may experience side effects such as motion sickness until they get used to it.

Therefore it was necessary to use it in advance and adapt to it.

‘I don’t think that guy needed it.’

Lee Ha-ru was already immersed in the VR experience wearing a helmet-shaped audio-visual device.

It was the first time I had seen him look so happy in almost half a year.

Anyone who likes games might have a dream about something like this.

“Let’s try it too. “I’ll use number 4 so you go to number 7.”

    “huh. okay.”

Hanseol and I also got on the device read the precautions and like Lee Ha-ru put on a band around our waists and held the remote control.

“Once you activate the device you will be presented with a simple task.”

The civil servant who followed explained.

“I didn’t put it in to evaluate anything it’s just like a game quest set up to get used to the device so you can enjoy it comfortably.”

    “All right.”

“Ah but the time it takes to achieve the goal is recorded so if you’re interested it might be a good idea to try for the fastest record.”

“What is your fastest time so far?”

“14 minutes 32 seconds. “This is the record of the Yonhee University Law School national team.”

Yonhee University. A face I recently learned flashed through my mind reflexively.

‘Oh no way. ‘Why would a guy who wanted to go to a law firm come here?’

With a wry smile I nodded to the official and finally put the audio-visual device on my head and the courtroom scene was completely erased from my sight.

    ‘oh. It’s quite… realistic.’

As if taking its place what unfolded before my eyes was a village street lined with single-family houses.

I don’t know how the video was processed but it really felt like I was dropped into an unfamiliar village.

However there was one clear sign that it was not reality.

[Objective: Read the case record on the right hand side and confirm the guilt of the defendant ‘Kim Gap-dong.’]

A large string floating in the air caught my eye.

As I moved my right hand as instructed a document that appeared to be a case record suddenly appeared.

I took a quick look and it turned out to be a relatively simple matter.

    – Defendant Kim Gap-dong planned to break into the house where victim A lived and steal valuables. At around 3 p.m. the defendant was climbing the wall of A’s house and when he opened the second-floor window resident B who was passing by shouted ‘What are you doing now?’ He was startled fell to the ground and ran away.

To roughly summarize the facts revealed it was as follows.

The defendant Gip Gap-dong himself confessed to the crime in front of the police officer and several CCTV footage of the crime at the time were attached.

‘The problem itself was prepared as a simple one.’

Since the goal was to adapt to virtual reality the problem was not difficult.

The target crime is residential trespassing a common issue that appears on exams on random days.

‘The topic that came up during the confrontation with Jang Hwa-eun was home invasion.’

It also meant that it was familiar to many students.

‘Let’s go to the scene first.’

As I move my feet on the treadmill the scenery in front of me flows backwards.

It was a very strange experience because I had never had anything to do with such high-tech devices in my previous life.

After walking for a while the house in question appeared.

An ordinary two-story house built with red brick.

The wall where Gib Gap-dong climbed captured in the CCTV footage faced a deserted alley.

When I only read the report I wondered what kind of crazy person would confidently climb the wall of someone else’s house at 3pm but I was somewhat convinced that it would be worth the attempt in a situation like this.

‘The issue at issue now is… whether the crime of home invasion was attempted or attempted.’

The execution stages of a crime can be divided into three.

A ‘preliminary conspiracy’ in which various preparations are made with the intention of committing a crime but the actual crime is not undertaken.

An ‘attempt’ is an attempt to commit a crime but fails to complete it and realize the consequences of the crime.

A ‘rider’ who realizes the consequences of a crime and bears the full burden of guilt.

‘The act of committing the crime of trespassing begins when the specific act for trespassing begins.’

For example similar to this case if you climbed up the exterior wall of a building climbing is recognized when you try to open a window to get inside.

Kim Gap-dong succeeded in opening the window so it should be considered as a start.

The problem is whether the fact that this guy ran away in fright after hearing the shouts of a passerby was an attempt or an attempted home invasion.

‘At first glance it feels like an attempted home invasion.’

Judging from the defendant’s own statement and CCTV footage Kim Gap-dong was unable to enter the house.

Since he ran away in such a state it seems like it was an attempted home invasion that did not achieve the result.

    But it couldn’t end there.

For such problems there is no need to visit the site again or conduct any research.

If you are creating an experience course by introducing a VR device it is human psychology to want to design it so that it can only be solved by fully using the function.

    ‘Definitely around this time… aha.’

I got closer and wandered around the walls and alleys and eventually I found something.

‘I think I found it. Conclusive evidence.’
