I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 88
When I opened the door to the seminar room the seniors greeted me warmly.
“What are you doing now?”
“I thought you gave up for no reason. Please come and sit down.”
It was as if he was just waiting for me with his neck out. Fortunately Baek Seo-yul succeeded in returning the smartphone without being detected so he returned with me.
Of course not everyone welcomed my appearance.
“this….”
First of all except for Shin Seo-jun the rest of the interns’ mouths drooped the moment they saw me.
There were already two people in this seminar room who stood out with their skills and even I who was much better than them in terms of performance showed up.
It was never good news.
However there was someone else who showed the most shocking reaction.
“…!”
I laughed when I saw Go Cheol-soo’s eyes shaking as if he was talking about how you are doing this.
It seemed like there was a lot he wanted to say but Go Cheol-soo was in no position to question me right now.
If you do that it will be like admitting that you put pressure on me.
‘Well it’s a useless struggle to buy it like that.’
“Actually I was thinking about giving up.”
As I slumped my shoulders Seong Jin-tae looked shocked and stopped me.
“No what does that mean student Yoo Seung? “I have promised you repeatedly that I will never arrest or burden student Yoo Seung…”
“I know.”
“It may be hard to say it with my own mouth but it is a very great honor to be confirmed for employment at our company. “It will definitely be helpful to student Yoo Seung in whatever activities he pursues in the future.”
“I know that too.”
It wasn’t just a flattering story picked up to persuade.
The prestige of the name Jin & Ahn in the Korean legal profession was enormous.
To put it a little exaggeratedly it was the only private organization that had equal or greater weight than the courts and prosecutors.
So I confirmed this.

“Jin & Ahn’s confirmation is an honor for me. Nevertheless the reason I wanted to give up the confirmation process was not because I thought it was a burden.”
“Then what?”
“There was external pressure.”
Let’s say it again and again so that everyone here can understand.
“It’s external pressure from someone here right now telling me not to attend today’s seminar.”
silence.
The seniors were buzzing.
“What does that mean?”
As if to represent this Seong Jin-tae asked back.
“Student Yoo Seung. “Do you understand the meaning of what you just said?”
“yes.”
I nodded firmly.
“There is a person here who intervened in Jin&Ahn’s intern recruitment process and threatened the intern. That’s what I’m saying.”
“…Is that true?”
Confusion spread among the seniors. Eventually that embarrassment turned into indignation.
“You scared the intern?”
“That friend too?”
“What kind of idiot would do something like that!”
It was natural for them to be angry. The fact that I was the material they so coveted was only part of the reason.
The bigger problem was the fact that the deviation of one senior member created noise in Jin & Ahn’s hiring process.
‘This is an own goal that undermines the prestige of the law firm itself.’
As if all the noise and anger had been condensed into one thing Seong Jin-tae came forward and asked me.
“Student Yoo Seung. “Can you… tell me who it is?”
Of course.
Because that’s what I came here for.
He forcibly hides the corners of his mouth that are about to rise and points at Go Cheol-soo with a trembling finger pretending to be anxious.
“…I am Mr. Attorney Go.”
“What are you!”
“The lawyer caught me leaving work last night and urged me not to come to the seminar saying he knew I was aspiring for public office.”
Afterwards I let out a small sigh.
“Of course the seniors here have already accepted that but coming out to a place where there are people who want to exclude me like that… I was also scared.”
Go Cheol-soo’s complexion turned white.
That’s right I just declared that I had given up on the confirmation because I didn’t have any other problems but I was reluctant to have friction with Go Cheol-soo.
The coveted property that all the seniors unanimously tried to acquire was turned away because of just one scrap metal dealer.
“I never did that!”
As he was already in a poor position within the company he had no choice but to panic and try to make excuses.
“I only hinted to intern Park Yoo-seung that if he wanted to be a public official anyway why not give the opportunity to other talented and aptitude-minded friends? Of course if I felt pressured by that I would of course apologize but I never intended to be intimidating or anything…!”

Anyway since I hit it head on I can’t pretend nothing happened.
So I was trying to refute it by saying ‘That wasn’t my intention.’
Of course even that would be very unpleasant to other seniors but you can expect better treatment than if you made an outright threat.
But I wasn’t one to allow such puns.
“Then please listen and judge for yourself.”
I played the file I had recorded on my smartphone.
– You shouldn’t come to the seminar tomorrow.
– You want to be a prosecutor. huh? I can understand just by looking at the reports you submitted. He also said he joined a guidance professor’s class at school for aspiring prosecutors.
– And then you still applied to be our intern? Don’t you know that all the people who have held public office jobs have been fired and Jin & Ahn have been blacklisted?
“I knew that Attorney Ko Cheol-soo wasn’t very interested in me.”
It’s impossible not to know. Behavior that openly favors juniors in the police academy and insulting remarks and all kinds of restraints that were secretly directed at me.
There was only one reason why I didn’t protest.
‘I was recording everything.’
“You’re recording as you please…!”
“Illegal recording or wiretapping under the Communications Secrets Protection Act does not include ‘conversations in which the recorder himself participated.’”
I interrupted Go Cheol-soo’s protest.
“Of course it is legal to collect evidence in criminal cases and such recordings to prove unfair treatment at work are illegal and do not constitute civil torts.”
Article 3 (Protection of Communication and Conversation Secrets) ① Anyone may censor mail wiretap telecommunications provide communication confirmation data or disclose information between other people except in accordance with the provisions of this Act the Criminal Procedure Act or the Military Court Act. You cannot record or listen to conversations. However in the following cases it shall be governed by the provisions of the relevant law.
The only thing that is illegal is conversation between strangers.
Of course even if the recording is not illegal under the Communications Secrets Protection Act if it is assessed as infringing on the right to privacy or personality rights it may become an illegal act under civil law and require compensation.
‘But that doesn’t apply this time.’
The solemn Supreme Court precedent protected me.
Our court’s position is that if you are experiencing something unfair at work and record a conversation with your boss to prove it it is not illegal.
Of course there was no need to explain this in detail.
“Of course Attorney Ko knows much better than me.”
“Ugh…!”
The sound of gnashing teeth clearly rang out but there was nothing Go Cheol-su could do when the situation was like this.
“Attorney Go.”
Seong Jin-tae’s voice as cold as ice reached him.
“Could you please step aside for a moment? “I will take responsibility for this later.”
“…All right.”
Now that there was clear evidence it was a situation where no matter what excuses you made it wouldn’t even work.
In the end Go Cheol-soo turned around and left the seminar room without saying anything.
In fact it was as if I had been kicked out.
“I’m sorry. Student Yoo Seung.”
Seong Jin-tae bowed his head to me.
“Don’t do this Attorney Seong Jin-tae. “It’s not like the lawyer did anything wrong.”
“no. It’s my fault. “It is Seong Jin-tae who is in charge of the entire internship process that is responsible for making a promising candidate experience such an unpleasant experience at our company.”
Despite my dissuasion Seong Jin-tae did not raise his head.
“And I will definitely hold Attorney Go Cheol-soo accountable as well.”
‘I guess you’re pretty pissed.’
Since he spoke this strongly it was certain that Go Cheol-soo would be subject to some kind of sanction.
Of course even if you do that you won’t be fired at all.
The image he has shown so far has been so poor that Go Cheol-soo was also recognized for his skills and qualities and was recruited as a senior member of Jin & Ahn.
It was absurd to throw away such valuable power just to make an intern feel better. Still I couldn’t get over it easily.
‘I shouldn’t have touched someone like that.’
Basically I am very patient and generous.
Even if something inconvenient or difficult happens I don’t get that angry.
That’s because I had a very rough life in my past life.
But Go Cheol-soo ended up crossing the line.
I am not a soft-hearted person to the point of generously embracing even those who show direct hostility.
With Seong Jin-tae’s apology this matter was roughly concluded.
The other seniors also said a word or two to me to see if I was too surprised or scared and I happily thanked them and said I was okay.
The other interns also just watched in a daze as things unfolded as if they were perplexed by the situation that went beyond common sense.
“What did I see…?”
“Attorney Go Cheol-soo threatened him?”
“Wow how could you do something like that?”
“What did you think about recording in the meantime? “He is not an easy person either.”
There are some who hold out their tongues.
“…I can’t believe something like that happened.”
Baek Seo-yul looked very worried.
“are you okay? Aren’t you scared? “What on earth is this…”
He used to sneer but at times like this his attitude is soft again. Instead of answering I reassured her with a light nod.
“so.”
Once the situation was somewhat resolved Seong Jin-tae asked me.
“What do you want to do now Student Yoo Seung?”
“What do you mean?”
“I think you must have been very surprised and uncomfortable. “You can go back and rest like this.”
no. What does that mean? I jumped up and started running.
“I don’t intend to do that.”
I spoke firmly and put the bag I was carrying on the desk.
Needless to say what was in the bag were various discussion materials and reference books prepared for today.
“It’s a little late but I came to the seminar so of course I should participate in the discussion.”
An opportunity to develop mutual understanding through in-depth discussions about legal issues with high-level students?
It makes no sense to leave this out.
Baek Seo-yul and other interns looked at me as if I was seeing something bizarre as I took out the materials and piled them up in front of me without any hesitation.
