I Became a Law School Genius – 84

I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 84
July 1st at 10 am. I was at the Jin & An headquarters building. Today was the beginning of a week of internship.
“Nice to meet you.”
A tall middle-aged lawyer with short-cut hair greeted me.
“I am Go Cheol-soo a senior lawyer who will be in charge of guiding you from now on.”
The lawyer who gave his name as Ko Cheol-soo made us wait for a while and left saying he would bring project-related documents.
‘That person is a scrapper.’
This internship program will be divided into groups according to the field applied.
Those who chose civil affairs perform tasks under the guidance of seniors who mainly focus on civil litigation and those who applied to become detectives work together with other detectives.
‘There are also people who supported special fields such as intellectual property rights or financial and corporate law.’
Of course I chose detective. Hanseol is a civil servant.
I probably won’t see her during this internship except when commuting to and from work.
The problem was that since I applied to become a detective there was one face I had to meet.
“Is there something on my face?”
Shin Seojun slyly accepted the leering gaze.
That’s right. Shin Seo-jun who graduated from the police academy supported the detective role as if it were natural in the original work.
Thanks to this the life of an intern in the detective field was described in detail in the original work.
That’s why I knew about Go Cheol-soo.
He graduated from the same police academy as Shin Seo-jun and was promoted to the rank of police officer before passing the bar exam and joining Jin & Ahn.
Of course his specialty is detective.
In particular when a case requiring an investigative response came in he was one of the first seniors to be called in.
“ha….”
“Haha please don’t hate me so blatantly. “Anyway aren’t we going to have our share of hardships and sorrows for a week?”
It is good to be given information. However it was not a pleasant experience to share the same actions with this black snake.
Even the original protagonist wasn’t the only one with an uncomfortable face.
“hey. Could you please stop talking about us just because we come from the same place? “Do you feel left out?”

When I turned my head to the ticking voice I saw another familiar figure casting a sly glance in my direction.
It was none other than Baek Seo-yul who had competed with me during the last recruitment briefing.
“…Are you an aspiring detective?”
“no? “Originally I wanted to support corporate legal affairs.”
It must have been so. No matter how hard I read ‘In the Law School’ there is no way I wouldn’t have recognized Baek Seo-yul when I first saw him if he had been depicted in this scene.
At least you got the impression that you saw it somewhere.
“Then why?”
“Because I messed up with you last time. “In particular after hearing you answer criminal law questions I felt like I needed to learn more about criminal law.”
In the end it meant that it was a self-inflicted disaster.
I shamelessly provoked him because I thought he was someone I would never see again anyway but if I were to meet him like this how should I treat him?
– I have no doubt that Korean University law school students are the most outstanding and talented so they will keep their positions even if they compete based on their skills.
– You won’t be rejected now that you’ve challenged yourself with your best skills right?
My precious words come back to life in my head.
No matter how sincere it may have been there was no dark history like that.
In fact Baek Seo-yul the person who was exposed to the rude remarks seemed to have no idea.
“It just worked out well. In order to defeat an enemy you must first know about the enemy. “During this internship I will watch your every move and find out how you acquired such skills.”
“Do you usually say that in front of yourself?”
“Think of it as a declaration of war.”
I thought about it from last time but Baek Seo-yul was also a person who seemed to have a screw missing somewhere.
Well for a guy who was originally good at law it was rare for him to be a normal person.
Because it is a discipline that cannot be succeeded without a certain degree of vehemence and competitive spirit.
“What is the story about last time?”
Now even Shin Seo-jun the male student poked his head in as if he was interested and joined in.
‘ah. ‘I want to go home.’
It was around this time that the urge to leave school early began to grow.
“ruler. Here is the material for the first assignment you will write this afternoon. “It would be a good idea to read it right away but…”
The door opened with a squeak and the junker came back like a savior.
“Shall we start with lunch first?”
* * *
However eating with Go Cheol-soo was not always comfortable.
Originally I didn’t like the idea of eating with an adult who was in a position to judge me.
How would you know that your every word attitude and demeanor are being graded?
Of course I didn’t apply for the internship hoping for confirmation so there was no need to be that nervous.
However that was not the only inconvenience caused by scrap metal.
“So you’re from the police academy?”
Before we knew it Go Cheol-su had spoken to us.
In particular he was especially friendly to Shin Seo-jun a junior at the same school.

“Yes that’s right.”
Shin Seo-jun immediately took the lead and Ko Cheol-soo chuckled saying that he was a distant junior.
“Right after graduating from law school?”
“yes. “While I was in school I started thinking about becoming a lawyer.”
“Good idea. The police are an organization with no future. “It’s not a place for our smart juniors to work.”
Go Cheol-soo patted Shin Seo-jun on the back.
He seemed like a good senior OB who cared about his juniors.
The problem was that they were showing it in front of us.
“…They don’t even care about us.”
Unable to bear it anymore Baek Seo-yul lowered his voice and whispered to me.
“What can I do?”
I shrugged.
There was a reason why Go Cheol-soo was like this.
‘Probably by now….’
Ugh. Just then a vibration rang out.
“Oh sorry. “Please talk to me for a moment.”
The source of the vibration was Go Cheol-soo’s smartphone.
As soon as he saw the phone number and name on the screen he was shocked and jumped up from his seat to answer the phone.
“Oh yes yes. Prosecutor Choi. What’s with the phone call… Yes? The suspect interrogation report for that case? “I did observe that.”
– What did you do with it? I told you to roast and boil all the police officers who joined the force!
“sorry!”
The person on the other end of the phone shouted loud enough for us to hear and Go Cheol-soo whose face was stiff kept apologizing and banging his head.
Go Cheol-soo hung up the phone a few minutes later and cleared his throat with a bitter expression.
“Hmm. “Finish your meal.”
‘…It’s like this.’
The person on the phone with Go Cheol-soo just now Prosecutor Choi is not actually a current prosecutor.
He was a so-called ‘former officer’ who joined Jin & Ahn as soon as he took off his clothes while serving as a chief prosecutor.
In other words he was a senior lawyer like Go Cheol-soo.
In principle at Jin & An which takes the form of a joint law firm there is no division of seniority among lawyers of the same seniority.
This is a method in which each person has equal qualifications and when a situation arises that is necessary for work a team is formed to solve the problem.
‘But that doesn’t really mean there are no ups and downs.’
Investigation response is Go Cheol-soo’s specialty. In fact it was a task that revolved entirely around the prosecution.
‘Because the goal is to somehow end the case by not sending it to court and not indicting it.’
Ultimately the authority to decide whether or not to indict a suspect rests with the prosecutor.
In the end it was the former prosecutors who best understood the prosecutors’ perspectives and who could exert influence on the current prosecutors in some way.
Of course if we are to be specific Go Cheol-soo also had a police officer background so he was a ‘police officer.’ And it wasn’t meaningless.
He perfectly understands the workings of the police investigation team and was a more reliable ally than anyone else when his client was being investigated at the police station.
However there was an essential command and supervision relationship between the prosecution and the police that could not be resolved even with the adjustment of investigative authority.
As such there was an invisible hierarchical relationship between the former prosecutors of the investigation and response team and former police officers.
In particular Prosecutor Choi who called this time said that he knew Ko Cheol-soo before they both became lawyers.
It was inevitable that Gocheolsu would have to crawl.
In short they said that Jin & Ahn’s seniors with experience in motorboat racing may seem incredible but in the end they are not the mainstream within the company.
Ultimately detective work is a field that is tightly controlled like a cartel by former prosecutors who graduated from Korea University Law School.
Former police officers were structured to move like their limbs.
Go Cheol-soo felt a kind of inferiority complex in this situation.
Therefore in the original work when Shin Seo-jun a graduate of the same police academy came as an intern he tried to take care of and support him more.
It was as if the protagonist had a reliable ally.
‘Not to me though.’
“Why did those two apply to become detectives?”
Look. Unlike Shin Seo-jun aren’t we grouped together and treated like a group?
Besides us there were two or three other interns who applied to become detectives and they too were treated as if they were folding screens just to fill in the numbers.
“…because I like criminal law the most and am good at it. “I would like to work on criminal cases in the future.”
Still I couldn’t say to the face of the person who came to instruct the intern that I was there to inspect my future enemies so I said that.
In any case the statement that I wanted to do a criminal case was not a lie.
“I thought it would be an opportunity to learn. “I also heard that even if you are confirmed you are not necessarily limited to working in the field you applied for.”
Baek Seo-yul also responded in a harsh tone.
She who hated being treated differently based on her background would not like this situation very much.
“Hmm… It must be difficult.”
Go Cheol-soo gave us a sour look.
“I’ve coached a lot of kids at Korea University and Yeonhee University and I’ve even hired them to do some work. Detectives are often empty-headed. It’s not for nothing that the detective teams at large law firms these days give confirmations mainly to kids who graduated from the police academy.”
‘No you’re saying it so blatantly?’
“Our juniors are just good at detectives. It would be great if you had some work experience but even friends who came right after graduation adapted quickly. But kids who graduated from regular undergraduate schools don’t have a good sense of it. “It’s rare that assignments are done properly.”
Even though it was a private remark it was not an appropriate line for someone in charge of guiding interns.
In the end until the meal was over Go Cheol-soo treated the rest of the interns roughly and only hung around with Shin Seo-jun.
It seemed like it was going too far so much so that even Shin Seo-jun the person involved looked embarrassed.
“Then check each assignment. Please finish and submit by 6 PM. “For ‘most’ of you… it won’t be easy.”
After returning to the office Go Cheol-soo said that and went off to do his work.
It was only natural that Jin & Ahn’s busy seniors couldn’t take care of the interns all day.
“…Is there all that stuff?”
But it goes without saying that it made Baek Seo-yul even more angry.
She huffed and picked up the envelope containing the assignment.
“I can’t stand it. “Whatever it is in this I’m going to do it perfectly and put that guy’s nose down.”
The rest of the interns weren’t in a very good mood either.
I came this far with a long-awaited dream but there was no one who would be happy to be treated like a bridesmaid.
Aren’t law school students already possessing delicate egos that are easily hurt?
To me it didn’t really matter how Go Cheol-soo behaved.
This is because the purpose was not to receive confirmation anyway.
But isn’t the story different from other internship applicants?
It was clear that his attitude would have a negative impact in a different sense than the academicism prevalent in the legal profession.
‘…I can’t help it.’
It was time to show off my skills a little.
