I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 83

Things didn’t go as easily as during the midterm exams.

As I entered the Civil Code 1 exam center on the first day I was secretly excited.

Last time all of a sudden the question types for all subjects reverted to the bar exam style so didn’t you see a huge benefit?

I wondered if they had decided to completely change the direction of the test but it seems that wasn’t the case.

[Question 1-1. Party A filed a lawsuit against Party B demanding the return of unjust profits equivalent to the rent for the land. How should the court rule on Party A’s claim?]

‘We’re back to breaking down each issue one by one.’

A question that clearly teaches questions that are familiar to today’s law school students and asks them to describe the basis for their judgment and conclusion.

However I couldn’t conclude that it was ‘easier’.

This question which appeared as the first question on the final exam was a problem with vicious traps hidden here and there.

‘Illegal enrichment is not within the scope of this test.’

Unjust enrichment is a concept learned near the end of the discussion on debt.

As the first semester was coming to an end it was a law that had not yet been taught.

Of course I and some top students have already completed their studies individually but if you excitedly write about unfair profits on the answer sheet thinking it’s okay you will fall into a trap.

‘This is actually a question of whether Party A can exercise its right to cancel the contract. If the contract has not been canceled it is not unjust enrichment but fair use.’

In that case concepts such as delayed performance or contract cancellation within the scope of the test can be enough to compose an answer sheet.

Unjust enrichment only needs to be mentioned in a one-line conclusion of a precedent.

If the portion distribution is reversed the scores will be divided into lumps.

Since honest questions alone cannot be used to distinguish top-performing students it could be said that it was a natural procedure to twist and submit questions two or three times.

    ‘Well it’s obvious to me.’

I wasn’t that soft-hearted enough to stumble upon a trick like this.

After the Civil Law I exam you go home for a while to get some sleep and recover then prepare for the Criminal Law I exam the next day.

Next Civil Law III Constitutional Law and International Trade Law an optional law subject are waiting in turn.

As always I did my best at every moment.

Even when I was eating I did not let go of my notebook and even until the last moment of entering the exam room I relaxed by silently repeating the precedents that would be asked.

It was a forced march with parts of my body complaining of breakdowns due to the fatigue accumulated day after day.

My wrists were sore from filling out answer sheets over and over again my head was hot and my watery eyes felt like they were pleading with their owner to please get some sleep.

However if you cannot endure even this level you will not be worthy of being called a law student.

Above all there is an end to all hardships.

    “It’s over…!”

After taking the international trade law exam on the last day I rolled out into the hallway.

The bloodshot eyes and shaky gait made me look like a zombie but I wasn’t the only one.

The other students who poured out into the hallway with me were generally similar.

    “Ugh….”

    “hey. Question 19: O or X?”

“Get away from me. “I don’t want to think about anything about the exam right now…!”

In the meantime there were some people who tried to guess the answer without notice but I was dragged out by my classmates who didn’t want to use their brains anymore.

‘Isn’t it X? Since I was in the United States when the contract was signed it must be judged according to American law.’

In the meantime as I reflexively thought of the answer I couldn’t help but be thankful that my circle of friends was not that wide.

If I were in that group I wouldn’t have been able to endure the explanation of the correct answer and if I had done so I would have been criticized along with the guy who was dragged out.

Eventually we met the study members who came out into the hallway after completing their individual selection methods.

“Thank you all for your hard work.”

Yu Ye-seul who greeted me looked relatively fine.

Everyone regardless of gender or age was dressed in flowing training clothes and hiding their messy hair with a hat but they were the only ones wearing neat blouses and proper makeup so they stood out.

“Why do you look like you haven’t worked hard?”

“For me grades and career path have little to do with each other. “If anything looking disheveled is even more negative so I pay more attention in times like this.”

“Wow is this a law spoon?”

Does this mean that the daughter of a large law firm CEO is free from exams?

In fact Yoo Ye-seul gave me a look that seemed to say ‘Are you saying that?’ but neither Director Kang Chang-soo nor Park Geon have any intention of giving me even an inch of support in my career path so I am confident.

Even if I had an idea in the first place I wouldn’t accept it.

“But even though I tried it once I think it’s better than halfway through.”

“that’s right. Should I say that I feel like I’ve gotten the hang of it?”

However Lee Ha-ru and Hanseol didn’t look that bad either.

Seeing Yoo Tae-woon nodding his head next to him he seemed somewhat relaxed.

The midterm exam was particularly difficult as it was my first time taking a law exam that required an overwhelming amount of learning in a short period of time but I felt like I had gained some experience now.

The story is that even though the body is physically creaky the mind is still strong enough to endure.

Since I also had the experience of taking the exam my mind was still intact.

Ordinary students were dying but a strange phenomenon was unfolding for those who studied well even after the exam was over.

    Hanseol asked me.

“how about you? “Do you think you did well on this test?”

    “…I’m not sure.”

“And again.” This is a beginner who pretends to be humble and takes first place. “I spring.”

“No really. “I worked hard on it but I’m not as confident as I was during the midterm exam.”

Lee Ha-ru and Han-seol shared a look but it wasn’t an act of excessive humility but honest sincerity.

At the time of the midterm exam I had a strong feeling that I had written the best paper.

However this time there were quite a few problems that I had to worry about or get stuck on.

“For example Question 8 of Civil Code III. By the time I finished writing there was only one minute left. I almost couldn’t even pay it. “I realized again that I still have a long way to go.”

As I was nodding my head while reflecting the atmosphere around me felt strange.

    “You… used it all…?”

Kim Seung-pil who was standing quietly like a folding screen muttered in confusion.

“Of course I wrote it all down. However due to lack of time there were many parts of the concept description that were omitted and at the end because there was not enough answer sheets the contents were crumpled and the table of contents was a mess….”

    “Kaaaaak!”

Suddenly Yoo Tae-woon was tearing out his head and screaming.

“You wrote it all in time? “I wrote Question 1 and rang the bell you crazy deceiver!”

“…I also wrote properly up to Question 2 of 8 but I barely wrote the table of contents for Question 3 of 8. “From question 4 onwards the facts became so complicated and there were so many issues that there was nothing we could do.”

No let alone Yoo Tae-un he couldn’t even solve one theory?

“…Did you hear? “It is said that Han Seol wrote all 8 sentences up to 2.”

“crazy. Is that possible? “They rang a bell when I started reading the 8 questions?”

“I heard Park Yu-seung solved it all the way to the end?”

    “It’s not a person….”

I wondered if these guys were lying to comfort me but judging by the tired eyes and words exchanged with classmates passing by it seemed like they were real.

    ‘…Was it that bad?’

It was difficult but I didn’t think it was so bad that I couldn’t write it all.

The study members gave me a shocked look and scratched the back of their necks sheepishly.

After talking about the exam for a bit.

“How about a quick dinner after the finals? “There’s a place in the alley in front of the school that makes amazing tripe.”

Unexpectedly Seungpil Kim proposed a company dinner.

Come to think of it I was hungry because I hadn’t eaten anything properly during the exam period.

Unlike the midterm exam everyone had some mental space left so the response was generally positive.

The sense of accomplishment at completing the semester and the rapport built up while studying together may have had some influence.

In the end we all decided to go eat tripe together.

    “Oh sorry.”

    Except one person.

“I think it might be a little difficult. “My parents called me…”

It seemed like Hanseol had to go home right away today as well. Indeed she was like a mother who scolded and pushed her child throughout the original work.

“Have fun. “See you all when school starts!”

As always Hanseol waved his hand and said goodbye bravely.

For some reason the sight of that back felt strangely lonely today.

‘I hope you’re okay that guy.’

However I did not express this. Family affairs essentially belonged to the realm of privacy.

The only thing I know about Hanseol’s parents is because I read the original work and she never told me about them.

Worrying about it was all just nonsense until I asked for help in person.

In the original work Hanseol was able to withstand his parents’ interference and achieve his goals so I can only believe that he will do well on his own.

    “….”

Lee Haru looked up at me with an expression that meant she wanted to say something but in the end she didn’t open her mouth.

    * * *

Looking back it was a semester in which many things changed.

    Hanseol was good at self-objectification.

Although his memorization and sincerity were strengths that he could not be ashamed of he also had many shortcomings.

I easily panic when faced with an unexpected situation.

There is a lack of ability to deeply understand and apply the essence.

They have a strong tendency to rely on familiar methods and are afraid of challenges.

However the current Hanseol is a little different.

I wrote a report on a law I had never heard of before got a job as an intern at a law firm and was selected as a law school representative at a legal argument competition where improvisation is important.

In the process I was overcoming my own weaknesses step by step.

The reason I was able to do that was of course… thanks to that crazy guy.

    – You have to think and think for yourself.

For Hanseol studying has always been a mechanical and manual task.

Absorb information according to the given purpose and when faced with a problem pull out the appropriate content and answer.

I have never been interested in the process.

On the other hand Park Yoo-seung was not like that.

He always acted as if he didn’t know what to do because he loved law itself so much and his expression only lit up when he talked about studying.

His dazzling passion was so different from the madman I remembered that I once doubted him but now I know that he has changed.

‘More than anything studying with him…’

    It was fun.

    Legal argument competition. Interns too.

It was a process of breaking the mold and discovering the joy of being able to challenge and do things that were previously impossible.

Of course Park Yoo-seung’s appearance did not bring only good things.

Now instead of being the top student she was relegated to the awkward title of tied for third place.

But I wasn’t as angry about it as I was with Freero.

Still I was able to feel confident that this was a high enough rank.

Because I knew that the process of competing and working hard itself was an enjoyable step forward.

Because I knew that it wasn’t just the pain I had to endure to achieve my goal.

Maybe that’s why recent rumors have become a little more harmful.

However… she wasn’t the only one who noticed it.

“test. “Did you see it well?”

As soon as I stepped into the front door I was greeted by a cold voice.

Hanseol’s mother asked in a business-like manner that made it hard to believe she was dealing with her daughter.

    “…I worked hard.”

“There is no point in working hard. “The results are important.”

That’s something I’ve heard countless times since I was young.

“Take out all the test papers. “Reproduce the answer table of contents and write it here.”

Mother handed Hanseol a bundle of paper.

Hanseol took it without saying anything laid out the final exam papers in a row on the floor recalled the answers he had submitted and wrote them down again on paper.

As it was a law exam the length was not normal so it took a considerable amount of time just to write the table of contents.

It was not something worth doing right away after the arduous exam period.

    “ah.”

Suddenly the pen fell out of Hanseol’s hand and rolled on the ground.

Her mother looked down at her trembling wrist with an inorganic gaze.

“You know how hard your mom tries to make you a judge.”

    “…i know.”

“I remember also saying that when you go to law school you must be the top student and maintain the top level without any variables.”

    “…yes.”

“But why can’t you do it?”

He was genuinely upset and complained that it was unfair.

“Give me money to study and create a curriculum. Please manage me by contacting me on an hourly basis so that I don’t get distracted like others. Why is my mom putting so much effort into it? “Why can’t you do it?”

    “….”

“I tried to make you understand that I lost to that kid who graduated from the police academy. He’s a kid who studied law since undergraduate school. But where did you get pushed around by a gangster? Does this make sense? “If you do that how will Mom carry her face?”

Han Seol did not raise his head.

When my mother was young she dreamed of becoming a judge and took the bar exam but after failing several times she married and started a family under pressure from her parents.

A pitiful person who projects his unfulfilled dreams onto his daughter.

Hanseol did not blame his mother for that.

    “sorry.”

Because we have been accustomed to this type of situation from a too young age to learn how to resent it.

“Studying to death isn’t enough so I end up doing useless things like internships and debate competitions.”

“That’s insurance for law clerk selection….”

“Don’t make excuses. “Why do you need insurance when you can just maintain your best grades in the first place?”

    Sharp words continued.

“If you’re really going to do those things during vacation increase your study time. You can sleep less. I’ll give you an alarm clock set for 3 hours of sleep so sleep that much during vacation. “I will check how much you study every day.”

    “…Yes I understand.”

“Mom has to go out for work so I’ll write down all the answers until then. You shouldn’t act like your studying is over just because the exam is over. “Okay?”

Mother passed Hanseol and went out the door. Hanseol looked up in silence as the front door closed with a click.

It was an ordinary day like always.
