I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 82

The results of the intern selection were announced relatively quickly.

“I heard the results are out? “Did you get the email?”

    “Of course I got it.”

“Wow crazy. “You’ve lost your life you bastard.”

    “Of course Sorry Mail.”

    “…ah.”

Such conversations took place frequently in the hallways of the law school.

Jin & Ahn as a law firm with a reputation as one of the best in the industry sent a sorry email to all applicants who were not selected starting with ‘We are very sorry that we will not be able to work with you…’

Unlike general private companies especially large corporations with well-organized systems law firms rarely sent emails to rejected applicants.

Although it was hidden under the fancy title of “law firm” its essence was nothing more than the expansion of a corner store founded by a few self-respecting men.

    – Do we have to take care of the children who have fallen?

In the process old men’s ideas gathered together and became practices and traditions.

Of course Jin & Ahn were an exception so many students looked at the mailbox their hearts swelled with anticipation and as soon as they checked the contents they were wiping away tears while repeating “That’s right.”

But even in the midst of all this someone gets chosen.

    “…It’s stuck!”

While waiting for civil law class to start Hanseol sitting next to me jumped up and shouted.

I had been putting it off and putting it off saying it was scary to check the results alone and now I finally opened the email.

“If anyone sees it they’ll think Jin & Ahn are the first choice.”

I smiled bitterly at that sight. This is why Hanseol seemed more desperate than most law firm aspirants.

“It’s not like that but this internship was quite a challenge for me.”

    “Well that’s true.”

Through this selection task Hanseol must have established a way to demonstrate his own strengths even on the stage where he has to fight with ‘what he does not know’.

If she works hard and does not rest on what she has already achieved she will be able to gain a lot from the on-the-job training process. It’s a good thing.

    “congratulations. “You worked hard.”

“So you got caught too. I get to see this disgusting face even during vacation. Hehehe.”

“Anyway there is a final round of the legal argument contest. “It’s just that the time I have to look at it has increased.”

    “Oh I see.”

Even though he said he was sick of it he didn’t seem to feel very bad about grinning.

As Hanseol said I also passed the internship selection as if it were a given.

    ‘It wasn’t that difficult.’

I was not familiar with the Severe Accident Punishment Act.

However as it was enacted relatively recently we knew that even among experts there was a strong conflict of opinion regarding its legitimacy and legal basis.

Everyone agreed with the message that industrial accidents must be prevented and workers’ rights and interests must be protected but criticism has continued since the law was enacted that its method and extent were excessive.

In the worst case the Serious Accident Punishment Act could send even business owners who tried their best to jail just because an unexpected accident occurred.

As such there were not many cases in which they were actually prosecuted so precedents were rare.

This meant that prosecutors were passive in prosecuting people with such controversial laws.

There were probably only a few of these in the original world. I’m not sure about the law because it was created after I stopped studying law.

Anyway I thought that if it was an issue where opinions were so sharply divided I could use it.

Since the Supreme Court Justices’ term of office only lasts a few years we conducted an intensive search to see if there were any posts expressing opinions on related topics focusing on the Supreme Court Justices who had already been replaced or those scheduled to be replaced and the influential candidates to fill their positions.

Then we discovered that the attitude was so different that it would overturn all existing precedents within a few years.

That was also an advantageous direction for the CEO of Company B in the case of the assignment.

In that case there was no reason to fight within the framework of existing precedents and legal principles.

If you hold on until things change you will automatically be in an advantageous situation so why fight in such a difficult battle?

When I visited Seong Jin-tae the plan was already in place and the work log was just data to understand the specific methodology.

Other than that there were some things I needed for ‘personal’ things but anyway.

‘As a result it became a point of inspiration that Jin & Ahn would like.’

When an ordinary law firm focuses on less painful hits and less heavy responsibilities it is designing a battle that it has no choice but to win.

For this purpose we will do whatever it takes.

Of course that didn’t mean I assimilated into their way of thinking. In fact it was the opposite.

We need to closely understand and analyze Jin & Ahn’s methods and take preparedness measures so that we will not be caught up in the future even if we face them in court.

That was another goal I pursued while writing this report.

As a result I felt like I had a hard time controlling the intensity so I ended up talking more about that side of the story but that’s something that can’t be helped.

Considering that the acceptance email was actually sent it doesn’t seem to be a big problem.

“Who else got caught at our school?”

    “Probably… Shin Seo-jun and Jeong Min-sik.”

I didn’t ask but those two passed in the original so they probably got it.

In particular in the case of Jeong Min-sik there are rumors that his skills have improved significantly since he was defeated by me so it would be even more disappointing if he did not succeed.

“It’s going to be busy during vacation.”

“That’s what law school students are like. “You can’t stop studying just because it’s vacation but there are additional things you can do only during vacation.”

    “Ugh….”

No matter how iron-clad Hanseol was he seemed appalled at the idea of not being able to rest even during vacation.

    But I can’t help it.

Jin & Ahn’s internship course was not easy but we also had a huge problem remaining: the final round of the Jain Court Argument Competition.

It was fortunate that the two did not overlap.

Jin & Ahn interns are held in the second week of July and the Jain Legal Argument Competition is held in early August.

Thanks to this I avoided the unfortunate event of having to commute to and from work while preparing for the competition… but there were a lot of things I had to do diligently before and after that.

    ‘I mean the finals.’

A groan came out of my mouth.

The finals of the Jain Legal Argument Competition are completely different from the preliminary rounds held by each school.

Because it was an unusual composition that was far removed from a real-life debate competition it was necessary to prepare mentally.

There was a somewhat external reason for that to happen.

‘The writer got a lot of criticism after writing the preliminaries for the debate contest.’

The preliminaries were similar to what we actually experienced.

All you have to do is read the prepared materials stand still in the courtroom and exchange arguments.

As a result there were a lot of negative comments such as copying and pasting the same picture and changing the speech bubble or saying that the composition was too static and had too many lines making it uninteresting.

Perhaps because of this the author was so enraged that he decided to focus on the finals and portrayed reality as a ridiculous fantasy.

To put it bluntly… we were going to be acting like detectives rather than law students preparing for an ‘argument’ competition.

‘Well I decided to think about it then.’

It is true that the things you will face during vacation are not easy.

But before worrying about that there was also a problem that was right around the corner.

“How many days are left until our final exam?”

    “…2 weeks.”

    “This is crazy.”

‘It was closer than I thought.’

    Final exam.

It’s a great ending to this semester and a perfect opportunity to take down the (temporary) sign in front of my senior seat.

In selection as a prosecutor grades in the prosecutorial practice course to be taken in the second year and scores on the main exam are the most important factors but the reflection ratio of internal academic records was also quite high.

Of course the grades are high and good. We must risk our lives to defend this position.

    Start preparing for finals.

    * * *

    Day 1.

‘Let’s make a clear plan first.’

There are about two weeks left until the test day. Naturally most subjects have not progressed to the full extent.

However if you look at the syllabus published at the beginning of the semester for each subject it shows how much is planned to be taught for each week.

Just look at that. In the first place I was long past the level where I could barely grasp the concepts by relying on classes.

As long as I know the scope I can do it on my own.

‘Civil Law I… from the time of representation to the end of the General Provisions of Civil Law. And a general discussion on bonds. Does Civil Code III extend to jeonse rights? Security rights are taught in the second year as part of the Bond Security Act. As for the criminal law the rest will be included in its entirety…’

Open the calendar and estimate the remaining days and the amount of study needed. Divide the tasks you need to do each day and mark them by date.

Just because there are 14 days left you should not simply divide it into 14 equal parts.

If you do that you will end up hastily reading the parts you didn’t read until the day before the test.

‘At least a week before the exam you must finish reading through all the past exam questions.’

To do that make it a little tighter.

Rather than splitting up the review of concepts and solving previous exam questions plan to combine them all at once to strengthen your memory.

    Day 2.

Civil law was after all a subject whose end was unknown.

Since I’ve already read the entire basic book several times I thought it wouldn’t be that difficult to narrow it down and delve into it.

But as I was studying to prepare for my final exam something new kept popping up.

“…What is it that ties the retroactive effect of canceling a missing person declaration to the risk of payment of type bonds? “You gave this as an example?”

Indeed the creativity of professors who had been playing with the toy of law all their lives far exceeded my imagination.

Even when I was working as a professor of law the most unexpected questions in a good or bad way were none other than those written by professors at each law school and it seems that Hankuk University Law School was no exception.

I was dumbfounded by the problems that seemed to have been created solely for the sake of discrimination a bizarre combination of issues that had nothing to do with each other.

However once it was presented it could not be ignored.

Judging the value of a problem is arrogance and arrogance that should not be practiced from the perspective of a learner.

Since other students would also study and memorize model answers and come to the exam room I had no choice but to eventually become familiar with these questions.

Rather than being erased the list of things to do on the calendar keeps growing.

But it was also somehow enjoyable.

‘…If others see me they will point at me and call me crazy.’

It was a repeat from the third day.

Review the set progress solve past exam questions and organize any parts that feel unfamiliar.

Keep up with the speed at which knowledge is drifting into the swamp of forgetfulness by replenishing it with new knowledge.

    Read read read again.

So the 4th day the 5th day and then a week and two weeks passed.

The day of the final exam has arrived.
