I Became a Law School Genius – 69

I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 69
The voice that shouted out as if it was a sign of joy clearly belonged to Rep. Jeong Seok-gyu.
And the direction it is heading is…
“Isn’t it Yoo Seung-kun!”
I thought this might be the case so I deliberately chose a corner spot as much as possible.
“…It’s been a while Rep. Jeong.”
“Was the last time we met in Cheongdam-dong last winter?”
“haha….”
I covered it up with laughter. That’s because Park Yoo-seung and I whom this author met are different people.
Since I couldn’t remember anything I had no choice but to skip over it.
“It’s late but congratulations on getting into law school. Hey Yoo Seung is in law school. “It’s surprising.”
I nodded vaguely.
Jeong Seok-gyu who was looking at me blankly lowered his gaze to the workbook I was holding.
“You make good use of this spare time.”
“Since we started late we have to work harder.”
“It’s a good idea. Then… hmm no. okay. Work hard.”
Jeong Seok-gyu’s eyes flashed as if he was remembering something but he soon walked out to the podium in front of him with his aide leaving only a few words of congratulations.
“…did you know each other?”
Hanseol lowered his voice and asked.
“little.”
I nodded.
“That person’s biggest sponsor is the Yoosung Group.”
The Republic of Korea’s Political Fund Act sets out and regulates the methods and amounts by which politicians can receive sponsorship.
This is to prevent so-called ‘dark money’ of unknown origin.
It is impossible to officially support a politician without going through the Election Commission or a supporters association.
But if you put your mind to it there are plenty of ways.

The ‘friendship’ between Yuseong Group owner Park Gun and Rep. Jeong Seok-gyu was in fact an open secret known to everyone.
Of course Park Yoo-seung has been a cold person in the family so far so even taking that into account we cannot know exactly how Jeong Seok-gyu viewed Park Yoo-seung.
‘Well I can roughly guess…’
In any case seeing him in person was not a very welcome thing.
As I was sitting there with a nervous expression on my face Jeong Seok-gyu who was standing on the podium grabbed the microphone.
“Hello students of Hankuk University Law School.”
The special lecture began with a brief greeting.
“This is National Assembly member Jeong Seok-gyu.”
Nod and bow your head in front of the audience to show respect.
“It may be news to you but you are truly amazing talents.”
Students still look with a mixture of indifference and caution toward unfamiliar politicians they have only seen on TV or in newspapers.
In front of him Jeong Seok-gyu began to twitch his mouth as if this was something he was used to.
“I majored in law when I was a college student and ever since then I have made it my business to touch the law… but studying for the national exam as an exam would be different.”
First start by getting the audience who are the speakers on board.
“Among my undergraduate classmates my friends who passed the exam and became lawyers were completely different. I was all a bastard. “I believe that you our law school’s juniors and prospective lawyers will also be just as outstanding.”
Detailed differences are intentionally not mentioned.
For example in his time the number of people who passed the bar exam was only 300 each year and the current bar exam produces at least 1700 people who passed the bar exam every year.
Students who were suddenly forcibly taken to a special lecture by a member of the National Assembly were generally reluctant at first.
However as this high-ranking person praised them in a low-key manner the atmosphere was gradually calming down.
“Until this very moment you have probably been studying intensely every day. “I would like to tell you that you have worked very hard.”
Small whispering voices become entangled.
“That person knows that we study hard.”
“I heard you’re not a lawyer so I thought you might be talking about something without knowing anything but that’s not true is it?”
In fact the true identity of a law school student was ambiguous.
The essence of course is that of a test taker studying ahead of a major qualification exam called the bar exam.
However unlike students preparing for other exams they had already completed certain rites of passage and belonged somewhere.
Because of its unique location people’s views on law school students were also divided into two categories.
Some people praise me and say that it is great to be a law school student.
Others criticized it by saying that it was much easier and more convenient to become a lawyer than taking the bar exam or that competition in ‘a league of their own’ was unfair.
In fact in general there were much more of the latter.
If you look at news portal websites articles that even mention the legal profession or law schools are bound to be filled with comments such as ‘Law school graduates are ruining the legal profession’ and ‘Abolish law schools and revive the bar exam.’
To that extent there was something heartwarming about the recognition given by an outsider especially an outsider of extremely high social status such as a member of the National Assembly.
‘He’s very talented.’
The politicians we see through the TV screen feel very foolish.
However that is only because of the trap of interests that unavoidably bind them in line with their duties.
In fact they were monsters among monsters with absurd specifications and good luck in the art of magic.
This was especially true for a senior lawmaker like Jeong Seok-gyu who followed his lead.

Roasting and boiling young people who had not yet taken their first proper step into society was not a task.
“The reason I came here today is to tell you about legislation. Some of you will most likely end up not on the side of protecting or enforcing the law but on the side of ‘making’ it like me.”
Meanwhile Jeong Seok-gyu handed over the prepared materials.
‘Sounds that I don’t even know.’
Of course Jeong Seok-gyu wasn’t lying at all.
The purpose of this special lecture is to listen to an incumbent’s explanation of the legislative process.
It didn’t make a lot of sense because the public law we learn includes ‘governance structure theory’ that deals with the functions of the government and the National Assembly.
But a cause is just a cause.
I listened to Jeong Seok-gyu’s explanation of the functions of the National Assembly the role of lawmakers and the process by which bills are deliberated and enacted with one ear in my ear and out of the other.
Jeong Seok-gyu’s purpose for coming here has nothing to do with the content of the lecture and the information I need to listen to is also separate from him.
When I looked to the side I saw that Han Seol had lost interest and was staring intently at the precedent book.
Lee Ha-ru had already fallen asleep for a long time.
I also quietly took out the workbook and started solving the multiple-choice questions I was looking at.
“…so.”
As I was rechecking the familiar fortune-telling several times and keeping the explanation in mind I felt signs that the boring story was coming to an end and the topic was slowly changing.
“I am speaking to you as Jeong Seok-gyu a human being not as a member of the National Assembly.”
That’s how Jeong Seok-gyu lost his luck.
“As an individual I am involved in various welfare projects. “We created a foundation to run a daycare center and also established a volunteer center that provides shelter and free meals to homeless seniors.”
But Jeong Seok-gyu shook his head saying that it was not enough.
“It is not enough to just help those who are in difficult circumstances right now. “If we want to change the world into a more hopeful place we must nurture talented and potential talents of the next generation.”
At this point it was clear what I wanted to say.
“I believe it is you.”
When the students realized that the story was going in a direction related to them their ears perked up and they responded.
“Actually the Shinyoung Foundation where I am an advisor recently established a scholarship to select and support talented students. “Of course there are scholarships for law students like you.”
scholarship.
At that story the eyes of several quick-witted people in the audience changed.
“All you have to do is fill out a simple application form and the foundation will review it and select scholarship students.”
It was strange.
Korea University Law School is national and boasts lower tuition than any other law school in the country.
Nevertheless paradoxically it was also a law school with many students who were wealthy enough to regard the 10th decile standard as ridiculous.
For these people scholarships were nice to receive but in most cases they were not really necessary.
So there couldn’t have been that many people who would pay attention to the story about the scholarship system.
“…Of course scholarship recipients will be provided with not only financial support but also opportunities for various ‘experiences.’ As an advisor to the foundation I guarantee it ‘directly.’”
‘Ha indeed.’
This part was the same as the original.
“What does that mean?”
Hanseol asked from the side.
“To put it simply… we are looking for a new face to join the ‘Jeong Seok-gyu Division.’”
What does it mean to be a scholarship student at a foundation where a member of the National Assembly sits behind the scenes?
The power of the gold badge worn by that person in Korea is beyond imagination. It literally works everywhere.
It reaches out to all kinds of people from all walks of life and can enjoy all kinds of immaterial and intangible benefits provided by such powerful people.
As a specific example an extra student who was selected as a scholarship student by the Shinyoung Foundation in the original work immediately received a love call from a leading large law firm in the next semester and confirmed his employment.
His grades are in the bottom 20%. Originally it was an impossible ranking.
Of course not only rights are given. This is the process by which Jeong Seok-gyu puts his name on talented individuals who will spread across all walks of life in the future.
The selected scholarship students will be able to carry Jeong Seok-gyu’s name on their backs but at the same time they will be subordinated to him and incorporated as members of the invisible pro-Jeong Seok-gyu faction.
“Was it such a heavy issue…?”
“In the first place there is no way that busy person would come here to give me an explanation that even a National Assembly office worker could give.”
This audience is not your average group. They are Korean University law school students.
Talented individuals who will infiltrate the core of the Korean legal profession in the future.
Some will become judges and prosecutors while others will take a position at the center of a large law firm.
Or some may enter politics altogether.
It would have been a profitable business for Jeong Seok-gyu to be able to apply saliva to such prospects in advance.
People don’t know this but if you’re such a dirty person you’ll need that kind of groundwork even more.
“I think some of the sharp-witted kids have already figured it out?”
As I said I noticed several people hurriedly taking out their laptops and searching for the Sunyoung Foundation.
Even for wealthy people who grew up with no shortage of money opportunities like this were never common.
Even though it was a corner I could see everything clearly as I sat in the back seat.
Of course there were many students who did not attach much significance to it.
This kind of insight did not necessarily match the study mindset.
But it didn’t really matter to Jeong Seok-gyu.
If he can’t even understand such an obvious message it means he’s not a talent worth saving.
“Okay then. “The special lecture ends here.”
Jeong Seok-gyu clapped his hands.
“I would like to briefly ask questions. Since I am doing government work I will accept only two people and then I will leave.”
“If you have any questions please feel free to raise your hand….”
The aide who was following Jeong Seok-gyu like a shadow repeated.
He obviously asked me to listen comfortably but for some reason his face was dead and it looked like he was praying that no one would ask questions because he wanted to get off work quickly.
But it seems his prayers were of no use.
Someone raised their hand.
