I Became a Law School Genius – 51

I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 51
The law building used by Hankuk University Law School boasts the largest scale among law school buildings in Korea.
The facilities are state-of-the-art and facility managers hired by the school clean them several times a day so everything sparkles.
On the first floor of that gorgeous building is a statue of the Goddess of Justice holding a law book and scales.
This is the same model as the one in front of the Supreme Court so the eyes are not covered.
Did you say that the statue of the goddess with her eyes covered symbolizes objective justice that is not influenced by prejudice and the statue of the goddess with her eyes uncovered symbolizes that she will clearly distinguish evildoers with her eyes?
The irony was that there was always something that didn’t look very just attached to the wall facing the goddess of justice.
[Announcement of provisional midterm overall scores]
1st place Park Yoo-seung
2nd place Shin Seo-jun
2nd place Hanseol
4th place Jeong Min-sik
…
.
.
.
The line itself is necessary.
In this society positions of great power and responsibility are limited and in order for things to work properly we must select the best and most capable people possible and seat them there.
Those who can withstand the pressure of the throne must be selected.
‘Still it’s a bit much to label it as if it were a public execution.’
Isn’t this like pushing students to study even if they want to enjoy glory and admiration if they don’t want to endure shame and humiliation?
By squeezing out young people like that people ended up getting sick while studying.
Moreover I can’t get used to the fact that my name is at the top.
If you ask me whether I am proud or not I am proud.
There is also a sense of accomplishment.
Putting everything else aside I stopped worrying about dropping out of school because I couldn’t pay tuition.

– I kept my promise.
– [picture]
After returning home after the first preliminary round I immediately contacted Geon Park.
I proudly took a photo of the report card and this poster and attached them.
The reply came back sooner than expected.
– Come back to my hometown next weekend.
– Until then think about the content of the ‘stake’.
A bet with Park Geon.
It was clearly said that if he got first place in the midterm exam he would do him a favor.
The right to demand anything from the chairman of a large corporate group within a few fingers of one another in this country.
You can’t write in vain. You will need to think carefully before deciding how to use it.
As I was looking up at the poster letting those thoughts go I heard someone whispering far away.
“Hey there…”
“It’s Park Yu-seung. “I never thought the day would come when he would become the senior citizen.”
“Should we call it a human victory? “Should I cry because I can’t win over talent?”
“Isn’t that a cheetah that really started running?”
Park Yu-seung’s ears were unnecessarily good.
I was so used to being criticized that whenever I was heard talking anywhere no matter how small the voice was I would catch it like a ghost.
Whatever it is it seems that the weight of the resonance of the word ‘chief’ could not be ignored.
Despite the numerous unfavorable stacks that had accumulated over the years many responded that the achievements I had achieved were great.
Of course it wasn’t just good stories.
“Ha… is the data collection really that big? After all he has a lot of money good connections and it’s something to see.”
“But what about the people who gave him the data? What about the kids you hang out with? “Are you so hungry?”
Some bluffs were made early on so there were still many people who said that they studied while studying with famous friends.
That was something I brought on myself so I couldn’t say anything about it.
However it is difficult to overlook the fact that even the people around me are cursing.
Rather weren’t they willing to stay by my side despite the unkind looks they gave Park Yoo-seung?
That was the moment when I turned my body towards him because I felt like I needed to say something.
“You idiots.”
A voice as cold as ice came from behind the group of people who were looking at me.
“Uh you.”
“That Jeong Min-sik?”
The guys were startled and spread the distance between them.
It was a widely known fact that Jeong Min-sik did not have a very good personality.
When Shin Seo-jun was next to him he was a bit more restrained but when Jeong Min-sik went alone he was like a bomb that could explode at any moment.
Recently he had been making a bad face as if he was uncomfortable so even the guys he was close with were being cautious.
“Do you think you can come in first place just by looking at some good data and sticking with the kids who are good at it?”

“No but this is Park Yu-seung himself….”
“Your grades are falling through the cracks because you believe in that kind of bullshit.”
“what…!”
The male student who was protesting was so embarrassed that he was speechless.
If I remember correctly I think that guy also ranked somewhere around 450…
At Hankook University Law School that wasn’t the kind of grade that would get scolded to my face for being the lowest grade.
That may be why he reacts as if it were absurd but to Jeong Min-sik everything from his feet is the bottom so there is nothing he can do.
“There is nothing more funny than people talking about accuracy or efficiency of data when they are wrong even when the professor openly points out that they are on a test. “Does the head of Korea University’s Law School look so easy that he can achieve something like that?”
“No that’s….”
“Or does this mean that your and mine’s efforts were so insignificant that they were trampled by nothing more than a few pieces of data? “Do you have no pride in your studies?”
“That’s not what you said.”
“That’s what I mean. Disparaging what that child has achieved. “Anything more than that would be insulting to everyone else who was crushed under him.”
“….”
The guys became dumb and lost their words.
“I hate Park Yoo-seung too. I hate it so much that I want to kill it. But the more we do that the more we have to acknowledge the results that that child has achieved. “If you don’t admit it… you’ll never catch up again.”
‘Oh he was completely resurrected.’
It seemed like he had gained some energy.
The guys who had been looking at me for bad words backed off and only then did Jeong Min-sik turn his head and realize that I was there. He clicked his tongue and hurriedly left the place.
Seeing that made me laugh for some reason.
After the commotion passed I sat down on the bench in front of the Statue of Justice.
I was planning to meet the members of the legal argument competition team here and leave to prepare for the next competition.
“Whoa….”
Another week has passed since the first game.
Meanwhile the preliminary round continued.
To be honest I didn’t even bother to look at the civil affairs field because I knew clearly how it would go.
If we had time it was right to focus on our match.
– Defendant Kim Gap-dong is guilty. The winner is Park Yoo-seung Han Seol and Lee Ha-ru’s team.
– I can’t believe we lost to first graders!
– Defendants Kim Gap-dong and Lee Eul-nam not guilty. The winner is Park Yoo-seung Han Seol and Lee Ha-ru’s team.
– …What the hell are these guys?
Thanks to our diligent preparation we swept all of the games we had played so far.
After the first game the team did not slow down at all even though it was a team comprised entirely of sophomores.
Anyway considering they are 2nd graders the difference is not that big.
The only difference was the amount of knowledge and level of familiarity with criminal law since I had studied criminal law and criminal procedure law during the regular semester.
I was confident that I could overcome that much.
As I passed round after round time passed quickly and it was now.
In the meantime not only did I focus all my efforts on the legal argument competition but I also followed the class progress as usual and even studied the Constitution and Civil Law so it was a busy day.
Now we only have the last match of the preliminaries left i.e. the final.
The opponent of course was the team led by second-year student Koo Min-hwan.
“It’s Goo Minhwan….”
What happened after the first preliminaries game naturally replayed in my mind.
– good. I will listen.
In the end I received information about Gu Min-hwan from Shin Seo-jun.
If it was natural it was natural.
Whether Shin Seo-jun wants it or not I have to defeat Goo Min-hwan for my own purpose.
Rejecting information didn’t really improve the situation.
Shin Seojun was already very conscious of my presence.
If you take a step back from here you might say ‘Aha you see. There was no way he would just say ‘Okay that’s enough.’
‘In that case… I have no choice but to use him too.’
The reason I’m reluctant to get involved with Shin Seo-jun is not because I’m afraid of him.
I’m just wary of the fact that I’ve already become entangled in the main story in some way and that there will be changes so big that I can’t predict it.
I know Shin Seo-jun’s real goal and all the work he is doing to achieve it.
If I put my mind to it I could come up with any number of means to control him.
One way was to get into a position where one could monitor Shin Seo-jun’s movements while skipping what could be missed.
‘Okay let’s think of it as a good thing.’
I clenched my fists and promised that.
“What are you thinking like that?”
“Aren’t you broken because you studied too much?”
When I looked up my teammates were already approaching me. I grabbed their outstretched hands and stood up.
Let’s not make it complicated.
First of all win the remaining games.
* * *
The rule is to lock the classroom after all classes are completed.
However among the second and third year students who had become accustomed to law school life there were many cases of secretly occupying empty classrooms and using them as large study rooms.
In particular it seemed like a long-standing practice among second-year students preparing for the legal argument competition.
“It’s already the finals.”
Yuna Lee was also one of those students.
Due to poor grades in her freshman year it became difficult for her to prepare for public office so she thought it was her last chance and randomly contacted her classmates who were preparing for the legal argument competition.
Luckily there was a team that accepted Lee Yoon-ah and luckily she had already made it all the way to the finals.
At this rate not only participating in the national team but also winning the finals was not just a dream.
“How about you brother? Of course we will win the finals right?”
Lee Yuna looked back at the man who made all those results possible and asked.
“…I don’t know.”
Gu Min-hwan answered in a heavy voice.
‘Truly me. ‘There is no soft spot.’
Goo Min-hwan a classmate who graduated from the police academy and came to investigate as a current inspector.
He always had a short sports cut and a gorilla-like physique and he was a man of few words.
A man whose expression rarely changes and it is impossible to tell what he is thinking.
In the first place Lee Yoon-ah wondered why Goo Min-hwan accepted someone like her as a teammate.
All matches played so far have been played as Koo Min-hwan’s one-man show.
From data analysis to writing defense and opinion statements.
He did the entire process alone.
In fact Yuna Lee and one other team member were just decorations to fill the number.
‘I wondered if he was interested in me but he didn’t seem to be.’
I wondered if it was because he was confident in his appearance but this stone-faced man never showed any kind of reaction no matter how sad she acted.
At this point I felt like I was going to eat it all by myself anyway so it really didn’t matter to anyone.
‘Well it’s fine for me to take the bus.’
It was rare for Gu Min-hwan who was half-resigned to open his mouth again.
“I didn’t expect it.”
“…huh?”
“Because that guy ran away to civil society to avoid me. “I thought whoever came out would win anyway.”
‘That guy? ‘What’s the story?’
As Lee Yoon-ah stared blankly Gu Min-hwan continued.
“But… this.”
At the same time Gu Minhwan lifted up the laptop he was looking at.
“what? “What are you looking at?”
What was playing on the laptop was a video of the preliminaries of this legal argument contest.
In principle spectators were allowed to attend all games of the legal argument competition and private recording was not specifically restricted.
Thanks to this there were cases where recorded footage from the preliminaries was used as teaching material or footage of the opposing team was obtained and analyzed.
However it was impossible for Lee Yoon-ah to imagine that Gu Min-hwan would do that.
This man tended to act like a quiet seeker never really paying attention to anything.
Goo Min-hwan analyzes the opposing team’s video? It didn’t suit me at all.
But no matter what Lee Yoon-ah thought Goo Min-hwan was staring at the image on the screen with such concentration that he seemed to be drawn into it.
Who on earth are you? Lee Yoon-ah curious poked her head in.
– I will judge.
Standing at the prosecutor’s table in the moot court was one man. A face that is acceptable to look at with a bit of a snarky gangster-like look.
– Defendant Kim Gap-dong is guilty. The winner is Hansul’s Park Yu-seung and Lee Ha-ru’s team.
“…It might be a little fun.”
Gu Min-hwan muttered softly next to him.
