I Became a Law School Genius – 45

I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 45
The next evening I found myself in a familiar study room.
I couldn’t use it for a while due to maintenance work but they said the work was just finished this morning.
The reason I came here today is to prepare for the Jain Court Argument Competition.
Sitting next to him was Han Seol and beyond him was the last team member of this competition.
“so.”
I touched my forehead.
“Is that him after all?”
Across from Hanseol Lee Haru was drinking coffee from a disposable instant cup sipping it through a straw.
I thought I would never do it so I didn’t even suggest it but it couldn’t have been more unexpected.
“We need data.”
Lee Ha-ru explained it that way.
The search and summary program she developed ‘Nalmuk’ is still showing decent performance.
But that alone is not enough.
If you input various documents and data that could be used in practice at once it often spits out sloppy results like other AI models.
Lee Ha-ru’s goal is to collect more data to tune and improve the model.
“That’s why we create prototypes at a level that can be sold.”
Legal tech is a business item that many people are paying attention to.
Legal services are basically very expensive but they do not require any special facilities or infrastructure.
The reason it is expensive is simply because the fees for legal professionals are high.
If you have a program that helps one lawyer do the work of 10 people you can simply think about it and reduce the service price by a corresponding amount.
It’s a win-win because the lawyer also has less work to do.
Dream Business Legal Tech.
If Lee Ha-ru’s sign that he graduated from Korea’s best research university and law school is added to the somewhat convincing finished product attracting investment is no problem.
“like that.”
Lee Ha-ru stretched out her chest and expressed her grand aspirations.

“I’m going to be an unemployed person with a lot of money who can just play games at home every day.”
Lee Ha-ru’s eyes filled with visions of a happy future became hazy.
“Is that it in the end?”
This means working a little more now so that you can be more lazy later.
Should I see this as progress or not?
However the motivation for participation is understandable.
The Jain Legal Argument Competition requires you to read vast and complex materials and formulate an argument within a short period of time.
This means that it provides the type of data that is essential for improving ‘Nalmeok’.
Additionally competition data is confidential.
Although secretly reproduced content is circulating in the student community the reproduction is poor due to the limited amount of content.
The only way to obtain data is to participate in person.
‘Still he’s a guy who works hard when he has a goal…’
“I also asked if raw ink could be used on site. “They said I could use it since internet searches are allowed anyway.”
Hanseol added. As expected there are no gaps.
Being able to use raw ink in the field is quite a help. I had no choice but to agree.
“good. “Let’s go together like this.”
The personnel selection has been decided.
The problem was how to prepare.
“Listen carefully. “We have to study criminal procedure law from now on.”
I said that and took out a thick book from my bag.
It was a criminal procedure law exam book written by a famous instructor among the test takers.
“…Doing all of this?”
Lee Haru asked with a dark cloud on his face.
The school preliminaries for the legal argument competition were scheduled for the very next week.
Even if I started studying at this point there was no way I could complete it.
“Should I stay vigil again?”
“no. Well I can’t do it all anyway. “Even if we did we would really have to stay up every day so by the time the preliminaries were held we would be lying in peace in the morgue not in the preliminaries.”
I shook my head at Hanseol’s question.
“I can’t do all this.”
And suggested.
“So let’s only do what is absolutely necessary.”
“…is it really necessary?”
Of course there is no content that is not necessary in the Criminal Procedure Act.
Ultimately you need to know the entire scope by the time you advance to the finals and the finals in the summer.
However it is impossible to prepare like that right now.
In that case there was no choice but to conquer the part that was most important and most likely to be encountered in the competition.
“The criminal litigation process proceeds like this.”

I stood up and wrote on the blackboard.
Introspection.
investigation.
Conclusion of investigation.
trial.
Appeals and appeals.
“When a crime occurs the investigative agency directly recognizes the crime or receives a report and investigates. If as a result of the investigation the case appears to be punishable the investigation records are handed over to the prosecutor and the prosecutor decides whether to indict or not.”
If the prosecutor believes that the case is not worthy of being brought to trial the case will be concluded by non-indictment and if the prosecutor feels that the person must be brought to justice the case will be indicted and a trial will be held.
If both parties accept the result the trial is over and if they dissent and file an appeal or an appeal the case continues into the second and third trials.
“Here’s what we need to know this time.”
I pointed to the investigation section and the trial section in turn.
“Investigation and trial”
The Jain Court Argument Competition is held in the form of a mock trial.
However that does not mean that we actually conduct a trial nor do we have to carry out all the procedures of a criminal trial ourselves.
“Only the trial procedure that is the process on the day of the trial is truncated and reproduced. So all they ask of us is to judge and prove whether the defendant is guilty or not guilty.”
In other words the actual judgment of the case determines victory or defeat.
“On the other hand litigation law is procedural law. “Most regulations exist to ensure that the parties involved in a trial have their rights procedurally guaranteed and do not directly affect the substantive judgment.”
However despite this there are critical points of contact that can directly shake the judgment of reality.
“A decisive point of contact?”
Han Seol asked.
“Think about it. “What does ‘substantive judgment’ look like in court?”
“Um… After all wouldn’t it be based on the evidence submitted? “Because all facts and claims must ultimately be proven.”
“That’s it.”
Judges make decisions based only on proven facts.
Claims that cannot be proven are not even of interest no matter how plausible they seem.
Investigation is the process of collecting the ‘evidence’ needed to prove it. Therefore the law on investigation procedures is ultimately the procedural law on evidence and governs ‘evidence that can be used’ and ‘evidence that cannot be used’ in trials.
Meanwhile the trial part also has a part that deals with evidence.
In the end it means that you have to combine these two and master them so that you have room to point out even if something related comes up.
“Specifically on the investigation side procedures for compulsory disposition such as arrest detention unexamined search and search and seizure. In evidence you need to know about illegally collected evidence expert evidence impeachment evidence and confessions.”
“Ugh….”
“Uh huh. Obviously you said you would do it. “Let’s get started right away.”
When I opened the book Lee Haru made a groaning sound but there was no time to make a fuss.
Even if you only look at the evidence-related content this is ultimately the thickest and most voluminous part of the Criminal Procedure Act.
Preparations for the Jain court argument competition begin.
* * *
Time passed quickly.
As usual we continued to study the three civil law criminal law and constitution laws that we were currently learning during the day and gathered together in the evening to wrestle with criminal procedure law.
“It’s only been a week since I finished halfway….”
Lee Haru made a fuss.
“It’s been a week. “Isn’t it time to run diligently?”
“So when are our grades coming out?”
I wondered what to say to Hanseol’s question.
It’s already been a week since I took the midterm exam.
It was a bit surprising that the guys who graded so quickly during the free game had not yet announced the results.
I’m confident that I did a good job and did my best but I can’t say for sure whether that would have resulted in results.
There was so much noise being made here and there that I felt a little anxious.
‘I hope it comes out quickly.’
“They graded it so quickly during the free game.”
As if reading his mind Hanseol grumbled.
But paying attention didn’t change the test scores I had already given.
For now I had no choice but to focus on what I could do now.
“let’s go. “I have to watch the preliminaries.”
Today was the day of the preliminaries. The moment had come when I had to confront what I had worked so hard to achieve.
“Who is the opposing team?”
“You’ll find out when you go. “It should be revealed at the bracket.”
The preliminary round of the Jain Legal Argument Contest was scheduled to be held in a mock court installed in the basement of the Law School.
We each gathered our necessary belongings and headed to the moot court.
“Let’s see…”
I checked the bracket posted on the wall.
We were able to find our names quickly.
Park Yoo-seung and Lee Ha-ru are buried far below.
The opposing team sitting next to them is…
“what. “Are you Jeong Min-sik?”
Jeong Min-sik Bae Hyun-joong and Hwang Gyu-ho who applied to our study but was cut are made up of one team.
In terms of ability Jeong Min-sik is by far the ace… I don’t know how the rest came together.
Regardless of the fate it was like meeting a very strong team from the first match.
“It’s a coincidence. How did first-year students get along like this?”
I answered Hanseol’s question.
“It’s inevitable. “For this competition the first-year team was made up of first-year teams and the second-year team was made up of second-year teams.”
This was a consideration so that first-year students would not be massacred from the beginning by second-year students who studied litigation law as a regular course.
First they played against each other first to gain meaningful growth experience.
There are four teams of first-year detectives.
So from our perspective we had a 1/3 chance of meeting Jeong Min-sik.
‘The person responsible for designing the competition this way is Vice Director Choi Seong-cheol.’
Personally I can’t like him but Choi Seong-cheol was obsessed with performance so he made sure to raise outstanding students.
He was by no means an incompetent person.
“Anyway that team is not an easy opponent so be careful.”
Jeong Min-sik is talented but his unique tenacity and desire for recognition make him truly scary.
They’ll probably bite you like you’re going to kill them. You should not deal with them with half-hearted determination.
It was a moment of caution.
“okay. “You have to be careful.”
A quiet voice was heard from behind.
When I turned around I saw Jeong Min-sik glaring at me.
“Because it’s different from someone like you who was lucky enough to climb up.”
“…Isn’t this our first time together? “I said informally when I saw you.”
Most of our riders are students who entered college as soon as they graduated from college.
Therefore although they are generally the same or similar in age there are people who have retaken the college or law school entrance exam and there are people who have social experience.
Regardless of age if you don’t know each other well isn’t it basic to respect each other first?
Even Kim Seung-pil who is on the borderline between older brother and uncle always treats me with respect.
“It’s not funny having your manners pointed out to you.”
But Jeong Min-sik responded like that and a light war of nerves ensued.
To be honest I had no idea why this guy hated me so much.
Just like in the original you only treat Shin Seo-jun like this. Why do you do this to me?
“Because it’s annoying.”
‘Hehe indeed.’
I had no intention of having an emotional fight.
Sometimes that is necessary outside the courtroom but at least inside it there should be a real-life battle fought with only logic and evidence.
Because it is a way to show respect for the sacred court.
I sighed deeply.
“The person next door to us has a small dog.”
“…What are you talking about out of the blue?”
“The breed was Bichon or Poodle. Anyway whenever he sees me he barks a lot. At first I thought it was brave of him to go to such lengths to protect his master. But that wasn’t it.”
After talking with the owner he said that the more the dog gets scared of something the louder it barks.
Isn’t it commonly said that dogs that bark don’t bite?
It is a bravado that he acts because he knows he is weak and is afraid of his enemies.
“How hurt. “Do I look that scary?”
“I feel a bit better these days.”
“that’s right. I’ve become a little less sheepish. “I think he’s a bit more handsome these days…”
Hanseol and Lee Haru who were listening offered comfort.
It seemed like sticking to a healthy lifestyle was rewarding.
Jeong Min-sik frowned and blurted out.
“What do you want to say?”
I asked with a shrug.
“scared? “I’m afraid you’ll lose to me.”
In other words what you were doing was no different from the barking of a scared small dog.
If all they could do was lie in their owner’s arms and babble there was no reason to treat them seriously.
“this…!”
“If you have the will to bite show it out there. “With skill and logic.”
I pointed to the entrance to the moot court and grinned.
“Are you not confident enough to do that?”
