I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 130

    [Chansol Law Firm]

A sign hung on the 4th floor of a stylish building.

Chansol which will be the stage for ‘High Flyer’ was using the entire 4th to 6th floors of this building.

‘It seems like things are going quite well.’

Even the headquarters of large law firms rarely occupy an entire building.

Since each member of a law firm is essentially an expert labor costs are high but the absolute size of the firm is not that large.

The same was true for Taejong Law Firm which is currently headed by Yoo Ye-seul’s father.

If you look at the address a building in Gangnam appears but in reality King Taejong only uses the 3rd to 12th floors of that building. Securities firms and banks are located on the remaining floors.

Considering the size of Chansol this means that it is a place where you can easily make money.

I opened the door went in and got on the elevator.

My body reflected in the mirror was draped in a suit that gave off a luxurious atmosphere. It was a custom-made item from an unknown foreign luxury brand.

‘I still can’t get used to this.’

In my previous life I lived on a suit worth 100000 won for several years. This is because there was no room to spend money on clothes.

However the price of the suit I am wearing now was equivalent to several months’ salary in those days. Just thinking about it made my stomach tingle.

‘This was the least flashy item in my closet.’

Should I say that he is like the youngest son of the owner of Yoosung Group? If you think positively you won’t be looked down upon at first impressions. People are more swayed by appearances than you might imagine.

When I arrived at the 4th floor I received a pass from the staff and was guided to the waiting area. Judging by the sign saying ‘Conference Room’ this room is usually used as a meeting place for partner lawyers.

There was a large round table and chairs placed in the middle of the conference room. As I chose a suitable spot and sat down to wait other interns arrived one by one.

“hello! “Is this the right place for interns to be waiting?”

“yes. “I think you can sit anywhere.”

    “Oh thank you.”

    ‘Three men and three women?’

I glanced at the faces of the gathered interns. Everyone was dressed in neat suits and for some reason they all had quite the same personality.

Even though Chae Song-ha was an idol in the first place the fact that the mask only selected people worthy of attention was probably taken into consideration that it was a broadcast.

    “….”

When all six people arrived and took their seats there was an awkward silence for a moment. Except for Chae Song-ha and me it was everyone’s first meeting so it was natural but that wasn’t the only reason.

    ‘The camera is still rolling.’

Cameras installed by the broadcasting station were rolling throughout this conference room. This meant that from the moment you entered your every move was being recorded on video.

Every word and action may be subject to evaluation or broadcast. It was a situation where I had no choice but to be more careful with my words and actions than usual.

There was someone who broke the deadlock first.

“Aren’t you hungry? Would you like some of this?”

A woman with long straight hair sitting next to me took out a piece of candy from her pocket and held it out to me. It looked so delicious that I didn’t refuse but quickly picked it up and shoved it into my mouth.

    “What about that one?”

“My name is Go Ye-rin and I am from Myeongryun University Law School. i look forward to.”

    “I am.”

“i know. “You’re Park Yoo-seung from Hankuk University right?”

    Go Ye-rin smiled brightly.

“I saw an interview article in a legal newspaper. You are the winner of this legal argument contest right? Actually I also tried to enter the civil affairs exam this time but I failed in the school preliminaries.”

“I was lucky. “I also owe a lot to my teammates.”

“Oh you have too much humility. I also had a friend who went to Korea and I heard that he was a top student in his grades. “He was the top student at Hankook University… I felt like this person was a genius.”

The attitude was very friendly. I felt the unique aura of someone who is good at narrowing the distance between themselves and others and who knows that they are attractive to others.

‘But there’s something a little bit strange about it.’

I was the first to arrive at the conference room and was observing the rest of the interns as they arrived and took their seats.

The moment this woman named Go Ye-rin opened the door the first thing she did was roll her eyes and check the locations of the installed cameras. Then he thought for a moment as if calculating something and then came straight to his current seat and sat down.

As if checking where the best spot for the camera was.

“It was fate that we interned together like this and we are close friends.”

Go Ye-rin said with a bright smile. At the same time his gaze glanced towards the camera installed in a corner and then returned to me as if it had never happened before. As if trying to gauge whether the angle is right.

‘It’s also a bit odd that I was the first person he spoke to.’

He knew about me because he read the legal newspaper. Go Ye-rin said that but isn’t it actually the opposite?

It may be that they looked at the list of intern participants investigated each one found information about me and approached me because they thought it might be useful.

    ‘Am I thinking too twisted?’

As I have said repeatedly the Legal Newspaper is not a newspaper that many people are interested in reading. Of course it is said that Go Ye-rin participated in the preliminaries of the debate contest so it is possible that she was interested in the results of the contest and looked it up.

‘But I still have to be conscious.’

In general my sense of people was good.

After that Go Ye-rin took control of the atmosphere by handing candy to each person and introducing herself.

“It’s a bit difficult to just sit there so why don’t you take turns briefly introducing yourself before our partner lawyers arrive?”

Since ‘High Flyer’ was broadcast it was as important for the interns to be attractive to viewers beyond the screen as it was to appeal their skills by solving tasks well. In that respect Go Ye-rin was adopting an effective strategy.

Starting with her each person introduced themselves one by one. Go Ye-rin tapped my shoulder as if it was my turn. I wasn’t very happy with it because it felt like he was trying to show off to the camera.

“This is Park Yu-seung. “I came from Korea University Law School.”

The sound of someone swallowing was heard.

The five interns all looked at me. Eyes with a mixture of caution and curiosity.

Because Go Ye-rin was talking as if she was bragging everyone sitting here found out about me.

Senior at Hankuk University Law School.

Winner of the legal argument contest.

It was not a title that could be overlooked lightly. This meant that it was enough to attract attention.

‘Did you highlight me on purpose?’

If so she had achieved her intended goal.

However I was not the only one who received attention with my self-introduction.

“This is Jeon Hyeok from Ina University Law School. Before enrolling I worked as a fund manager at ‘Aegis’ Asset Management.”

“Wow Aigis? “Aren’t they one of the top three management companies?”

“They usually say that a lot.”

Next in line for me was Jeon Hyeok from Ina University Law School. Her hair neatly combed with pomade suited her very well.

As Go Ye-rin openly floated it Jeon Si-hyeok’s expression showed a hint of arrogance.

“That’s great! Aegis is actually a job that many people admire and envy. It is widely rumored that the salary is very high. “Is there anything that made you choose law school?”

“A lot of people are asking about that too.”

Jeon Si-hyeok answered while smoothing his bangs.

“While working at an investment management company I felt the need to gain expertise in financial regulation and capital market law. This is part of the purpose of introducing the law school system. “To train legal professionals with experience and expertise in various fields.”

Then he turned to me subtly and said

“I think this is an era where such talents are needed more than people who only know the law well.”

    ‘What is this?’

Although it was only for a moment a strange hostility emanated from those eyes.

‘Are you keeping me in check now?’

Isn’t it as if he is trying to snipe at me by saying that he is a person who only knows the law?

Only then did I think I understood why Go Ye-rin made such a fuss and let me fly first.

If I look purely at my legal skills I don’t think there will be anyone here who can confidently challenge me. There is no need to limit it to this place.

In the first place I had gotten too far ahead of myself to compare myself to other first-year students.

So I intentionally put myself in the forefront and keep other participants in check. The curriculum of this internship program which we reviewed in advance included quite a lot of group assignments as well as individual activities.

It meant that it was an environment where you could do whatever you wanted to keep in check.

    ‘That’s fun.’

The skill of peeling plates is quite good. If I had been stupid enough not to notice Go Ye-rin’s intentions or if I had been someone who was seriously aiming for Chan Sol’s confirmation it would have been a very effective operation.

    ‘Not really though.’

The purpose of my appearance on ‘High Flyer’ is to support Chae Song-ha. Whether it’s Go Ye-rin’s manipulation or Jeon Jeon-hyeok’s checks in reality it doesn’t pose much of an obstacle to me.

So you can just pass this off as a bit of a joke.

‘If you cross the line… then you have to throw it all away.’

As he swallowed those thoughts with a yawn the corner of Jeon Hyeok’s mouth trembled perhaps because he thought he had been ignored.

Next the remaining interns finished introducing themselves. During Chae Song-ha’s turn those who recognized her made a fuss once again.

“During this program I hope you will think of us as just competitors and colleagues.”

However it did not last long because Chae Song-ha himself said so and put an end to it.

    “Has everyone gathered?”

A familiar voice came from outside the door along with a knock. It was lawyer Kang Dong-hwi who came in as an interviewer.

The door clicked open and lawyer Kang Dong-hwi with a generous appearance came in with a friendly smile.

“I don’t know if they have said it. “Let’s eat first before the afternoon schedule!”

He took us to a high-end shabu-shabu restaurant nearby. Perhaps because it was a pre-arranged location the broadcasting station staff were already waiting with cameras and lighting equipment.

As we sat around the table with lawyer Kang Dong-hwi they busily moved around and adjusted the camera angle.

‘Are celebrities who appear on variety shows always filmed in this kind of environment?’

There are a lot of people with cameras walking around at close range. Even if I tried not to pay attention I just couldn’t.

Although it must have been very good meat I could hardly taste it.

I once again thought that celebrities in entertainment shows who show their natural side as if they are alone are amazing.

    ‘Chae Song-ha… he’s frozen too.’

Chae Song-ha who was sitting next to me was eating shabu-shabu with a very stiff and mechanical movement.

For Chae Song-ha deciding to stand in front of the camera again was a big challenge in itself. It may be too much to hope for more than this just yet.

    “Oh Aigis Asset Management?”

Attorney Kang Dong-hwi let out an exclamation.

“You’ve been to a great place right? Actually we also received some advice from there and did some work. “If intern Jeon Jeon-hyeok comes in I can trust him.”

    “Haha about that much….”

It seemed like the topic had suddenly shifted back to Jeon Jeon-hyuk. As his eyes focused on him he swept his bangs with his characteristic confident expression.

“Still I think it will be important in the future to have both legal knowledge and an eye for reading financial trends. For example.”

    “Ohh. For example?”

“Even though I quit my job as a fund manager there was actually one company that I was keeping an eye on until recently.”

As if Jeon Hyeok was telling a secret story.

“It’s a startup that deals with generative AI. “The growth rate was slow for a while but recently we suddenly changed our business area and started to rise rapidly.”

    ‘hmm?’

“But the field that has changed is none other than legal tech. “In Korea there have been few attempts to combine generative AI and legal tech… but we are attracting a lot of attention with the successful prototype.”

    ‘Hmm?’

“Rumor has it that an investor with a large stake has pushed for a change in business lines. Isn’t it awesome? “Being able to make such a bold decision.”

    ‘Ummmm?’

“This is something you can never do without an excellent understanding of both law and management investment and your own philosophy. Or maybe you can see the future.”

    Jeon Si-hyuk chatted excitedly.

“The added value that can be created by combining expertise in other fields and legal knowledge is so great. I didn’t look up who it was but I personally have great respect for that investor. “I dare call him a role model.”

Then Jeon Si-hyeok looked back at me with a slightly mocking expression.

“You will never be able to reach that level if you just study the law hard.”

Before I could reply Attorney Dong-Hwi Kang nodded.

“hmm. We are definitely living in an era where lawyers with a thorough understanding of the field are needed. “I was impressed.”

    Then he asked Jeon Jeon-hyuk.

“I’m asking for the sake of learning but is this the company that intern Jeon Hyeok mentioned? “What is your mission?”
