I Became a Law School Genius – 13

I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 13
“Who am I?”
Lee Ha-ru proudly straightened her shoulders.
“Korea University Law School Civil Law Test ‘1st place.’”
“That’s great.”
“I roughly figured it out. The level of Korean universities… was boring and made me want to die.”
“Don’t fuss. “Have you already forgotten that because of you I almost lost first place by just one point?”
I gave her some noodles but Lee Ha-ru stuck out her tongue once and put her head down in the bowl of gratin she was eating.
The gratin at this restaurant was heavenly.
I also took a spoonful of the gratin that was cool enough to eat.
it’s good. Is this the best taste?
Hanseol sitting next to me tapped my arm.
“Hey how about bragging a little? “How amazing is it that you got that score without even doing any good deeds?”
Hanseol looked at Lee Haru with proud eyes as if she were looking at his daughter who had given birth to a pain in her stomach.
Well that statement wasn’t entirely wrong.
The scores of the three of us checked on the website were 88 for Hanseol 86 for me and 75 for Lee Ha-ru.
The group average was 83 points so of course they took first place.
Basically the case type gives you more points even if you write well so at this level all of them received top grades.
For reference Shin Seo-jun’s group which came in second place had an average of 79 points with 95 points 72 points and 70 points.
Looking at it this way it feels like Shin Seo-jun fell while running with a sandbag but in fact his score was in the 70s which puts him in the rankings.
“The opponent is me.”
Lee Ha-ru whose nose was raised to the highest level boasted.
Of course this does not mean that Haru already has the skills or depth of understanding to match his score.
This was only possible because I repeatedly covered a limited range of genealogies that I had created and there was the premise that all questions would be asked within them.
Rather considering Lee Ha-ru’s brain cell performance he would have been able to get a better grade if he had just memorized the answers.
This probably means that you are not serious about studying yet.

“Still I couldn’t surpass it in terms of personal performance.”
Han Seol added as if he felt regretful.
Shin Seo-jun was definitely a monster.
Even with the cheat key called handmade genealogy you can’t overcome it.
Because I couldn’t even find a model answer to a case-type problem.
There may have been precedents that I omitted in the process of creating my own answer.
Then what is it?
“But you won right?”
I also smiled and added a word.
This test was a system that reflected the group average rather than individual scores.
Clearly first place is our group 10.
In fact the group evaluation scores also jumped significantly reflecting the paper exam scores.
[Park Yu-seung (Group 10) / Group Evaluation (37/40)]
The group score out of 40 has already reached 37 points.
There are only a few days left until the end of the free trial but all you have to do is get three more points to get a perfect score.
This is more than enough to make up for the failure during the first evaluation.
‘What remains depends on the second evaluation.’
Second evaluation where changes are expected.
I don’t know how it will be done but… I’m sure it will be done well.
It was the moment I made that promise.
“Are you Mr. Park Yu-seung?”
A female student appeared at the table we were sitting at and started talking to us.
“Who are you…?”
“My name is Yu Ye-seul. Group 9 taking the same class.”
“I’m in the same group as Bae Hyeon-joong.”
Han Seol whispered.
‘Yoo Ye-seul. That Yu Ye-seul?’
I immediately took a guarded attitude.
“…Anything to do?”
So to speak Yoo Ye-seul was like the main villain in the first part of the original work.
She was the beloved only daughter of the CEO of the famous law firm ‘Taejong’.
Yu Ye-seul who will one day inherit the position has always built her own kingdom around her as if she were practicing kingship.
What I hate most are people who don’t get their way and situations that don’t go as expected.
In the original work he regarded Shin Seo-jun as a thorn in his eyes clashed with him repeatedly and tried to pressure him using his wealth and personal connections.
“I heard that group 10 won first place in the paper test this time? Congratulations.”
“I was lucky.”
“It’s luck. “You improved your grades so much… but didn’t you have some kind of ‘secret’?”

There is a strange emphasis on the two letters ‘secret’.
‘…Look at this.’
“Or is it also something that runs in the family? Mr. Park Yoo-seung. “He is the maternal nephew of Director Kang Chang-soo who served as a former Supreme Court Justice.”
The sight of him gently smiling and looking away was very gloomy.
At this level it would be foolish to accept the sentence at face value.
Yoo Ye-seul now openly says ‘You are the director’s relative. I was stabbing him wondering if he was manipulating something.
It seemed that Yu Ye-seul had selected me as her next target.
“If it’s the ‘secret’….”
It was very embarrassing.
“Are you talking about the ‘secret’ that Yoo Ye-seul used when she won the grand prize at the Ministry of Justice Law Paper Contest during high school?”
“What?”
For a moment Yu Ye-seul’s relaxed expression seemed to crack.
“How could you do that…!”
“I read the award-winning work. “The in-depth understanding of the negligent offender’s co-principle stood out.”
I added as if driving a wedge.
“Just like Yoo Ye-seul’s father who is also famous as a researcher in the criminal law field.”
“…!”
Yu Ye-seul clenched her fists.
It was a topic she had nothing to say about.
This is because the work that Yu Ye-seul submitted at the time was almost a direct translation of a paper that her father had contributed to a small overseas journal a long time ago.
Because it was such an old journal there was no information available on the Internet.
Since the number of copies issued was very small there was no evidence as Yoo Ye-seul had recovered all of the copies.
However the one who is holding something back tends to stop thinking ‘just in case’.
‘I know about you too. Let’s not make things bothersome for each other and let’s go together in a good way.’
I was conveying that message.
“While we were having this pleasant conversation the food got a little cold. The gratin here is best eaten when it’s warm… Is it okay if I finish it?”
“I’ll remember that.”
“Of course.”
When I gestured towards the exit Yu Ye-seul who was tingling and glaring at me left the place as if running away.
“What were you just talking about…?”
“It’s nothing. “Let’s finish eating.”
If Han Seol found out about Yoo Ye Seul’s infidelity there was no way he would just ignore it.
If you raise an issue officially and it escalates you never know what they might do to cover it up.
In an effort to protect her I ignored it and concentrated on quietly scooping out the chicken from the gratin.
Even though it was a little cold the gratin here was still the best.
* * *
After lunch criminal law class returned.
“You may have already heard this but we have decided to change the format of the second evaluation.”
Professor Yong-Hwan Jang tapped the microphone to draw attention.
“You have already come to law school and taken quite a few tests. “How was it?”
“It was difficult.”
When the answer came back full of sincerity the students burst out laughing in sympathy.
“You just fell asleep. “What’s your name?”
The smile disappeared immediately.
“This is Yoo Taewoon. professor.”
“What part was difficult?”
“that….”
Yoo Taewoon broke into a cold sweat.
“There was a lot to memorize. “If I don’t have something memorized before developing the logic I can’t even understand the issue…”
“Was it difficult because you were forced to memorize too much?”
“Oh no! “That’s not what I wanted to say…”
“Why is that so?”
“…yes?”
“Why do we force that excessive memorization on you? “Please answer.”
Yoo Tae-woon’s face became pale.
“It feels like I’m being interrogated for some reason.”
Hanseol whispered as if he was tired of it.
“You’re a former prosecutor.”
Yoo Taewoon who had been rolling his eyes for a while while responding appropriately finally opened his mouth.
“I think it’s because all the tests we’ll take in the future require that. The same goes for the bar exam the prosecutor’s main exam and the law clerk selection exam.”
“That’s it.”
Jang Yong-hwan nodded.
“Every law exam you’ll ever take will be administered that way. Logic brilliant ideas and the ability to capture and summarize facts are all secondary issues. To show such ability you must first pound a lot of knowledge into your head.”
It’s a shame.
Jang Yong-hwan sighed as he added that.
“You are planning to enter Korea University Law School. It is a body that is expected to be better than anyone else in the future. “We must have the highest bar exam passing rate produce the most prosecutors and have the highest law clerk performance.”
Because we have to be the best in all those tests we must exert our energy and struggle to memorize at least one more thing than others.
If you can’t do that you won’t even be qualified to carry the name Hankuk University.
There was tension among the students.
They once again realized what kind of ground they were standing on.
“But but but.”
At that time Jang Yong-hwan’s eyes suddenly lit up.
“Is that enough?”
It was a remark that seemed like pouring cold water on it.
You just told me to be the best and that’s enough.
I had no idea what he wanted to say.
“I’m good at memorizing things. Accept problems that are neatly defined within a defined scope. “Can you become a good lawyer if you do well in the requirements of such a refined educational track?”
“Professor are you denying their meaning?”
Someone dared to ask.
“No that’s not it. I too am standing here because I passed the worn-out memorization test decades ago and I have pushed countless students into such testing rooms. “It is a necessary process.”
however.
“It’s not enough.”
“…I’m not sure what you’re trying to say.”
“Such study is so to speak the basis of becoming a good lawyer. Those of you who do it well will be able to proudly boast that you graduated from Hankuk University Law School. But…someone of you has to look up there.”
Jang Yong-hwan declares.
“Instead of making Korea University Law School a source of pride let Hankook University Law School make you a source of pride.”
“…!”
That’s too big of a statement for us to accept today.
Only silence and the sound of gurgling and swallowing flowed through the classroom.
“Unfortunately the current curriculum and exams alone do not tell you whether you have those qualities… they cannot be cultivated. therefore. “At least this one insignificant test you take before you even enter school.”
Jang Yong-hwan clapped his hands.
“Wouldn’t it be okay if it was a bit out of the ordinary?”
Sigh. Jiing.
A screen came down behind Jang Yong-Hwan’s back and a beam projector projected an image onto it.
The homepage of a case law search engine familiar to all law school students appeared there.
“…Professor what is this?”
“This second evaluation is an open book.”
“Yes yes?!”
Embarrassed voices erupted from all over.
An open book test at a law school that values memorization and revelation.
Even I was shocked and looked at Jang Yong-hwan with my mouth wide open.
“Of course you can’t bring books in but you will be provided with this precedent search engine at the test site. If you don’t know something feel free to look it up and add references. Instead.”
Jang Yong-hwan clapped his hands once again.
“The problems you need to solve… are these.”
With a whining sound the beam projector began to spit out numerous images.
A woman lying down bleeding.
A kitchen knife with fingerprints in an evidence locker.
A real estate register with a lot of strike-through lines because the owner has changed several times.
An old man looking at a screen and explaining something.
A desolate land with only a flag displaying the owner’s name.
And dozens of pages of thick data containing records of all of this.
“In this exam you become practitioners. It could be a lawyer or a prosecutor. And…instead of well-organized facts that fit the law of the exam we will dig into numerous evidence and records to discover issues directly and build our own arguments.”
It was a completely new type of test.
“Don’t worry about the difficulty level. As I said last time this is a relative evaluation and what you can’t do the person sitting next to you can’t either.”
blankly. Students staring at the screen in confusion.
“There is only one subject to be taken per person. Those who are more comfortable with civil affairs or detectives can choose criminal and take the test. “Submit your electives to my email address by tonight.”
“Professor Kyo I…”
“The test date is the last day of free-ro. I will not be answering any questions related to the exam. more.”
With only those words left Jang Yong-hwan turned and left the classroom.
An assistant in the administrative office who came in just as this was happening seemed to notice and hesitantly spread the message.
“Uh… you said today’s lecture is a time to think about the subjects for the second evaluation and self-study…”
“right”
No sooner had the assistant finished speaking.
“Woah! “What the hell is this?”
The classroom became a chaos.
