I Became a Law School Genius – 104

I Became a Genius Law School Student Episode 107
The contest naturally ended with our team winning.
Although Kim Gap-dong’s mental and physical loss was acknowledged it was only a free act in terms of cause. Therefore there can be no exemption from punishment.
That conclusion was accepted.
Needless to say he was guilty and sentenced to prison.
After the contest is over it’s time to clean up afterward.
My victory is Ha Gyu-min’s defeat. And there was much more at stake in that win or loss than just the right to advance to the next competition.
As soon as the verdict was announced Ha Gyu-min ran to me knelt down and begged.
“Please please just take a look.”
It was an earnest appeal.
“If Taejong’s confirmation goes by my classmates will laugh at me. Of course you will lose your qualifications to apply for Jin&Ahn’s job. Please just tell Ms. Yoo Ye-seul…!”
“Didn’t you laugh too?”
Of course I flatly refused.
“Many students who take on public service in order to achieve their dreams. Current employees who work with conviction. “You treated me like a loser who couldn’t keep up with the times.”
“….”
“It’s funny that you think your classmates will criticize Ha Gyu-min in the first place. That confidence must have come from the fact that Ha Gyu-min said harsh things to them first. “Don’t you know that it is a matter of justice and justice?”
“Well I was wrong….”
“If you know you did something wrong.”
I shook my head.
“You have to pay the price.”
Giving opportunities is also something you have to do while looking after people. I do not show tolerance even to people whose nature itself is so corrupt.
I left Ha Gyu-min who collapsed and screamed and went outside with my teammates.
It was already almost five o’clock in the afternoon. This also meant that the contest took a long time. There was a need to gradually supply nutrients to the stomach.
‘okay. ‘You put a lot of thought into it.’
We went to the courthouse cafeteria ordered our respective menus and took our seats.
“Everyone worked hard.”

I scooped up a spoonful of stir-fried pork and praised Hanseol and Lee Haru.
“What trouble? Why is it difficult to write the part where the answer is set? Instead you did the hard work.”
“What am I? “As always it just clicked.”
Although the two men were so humble the importance of what they did was by no means small.
It was true that I was entrusted with a part where the content was almost decided.
However even so it was a daunting task to read through such a thick document in time and complete the writing without missing any content.
‘Because I believed that these guys would do it right.’
Thanks to that belief I was able to invest enough time looking for evidence in virtual reality.
The legal argument competition is ultimately a team game. If we cannot do our part we cannot achieve victory. I once again felt fortunate to be participating in the competition with these guys.
“By the way this time the evidence found in the real VR device was the key to the case.”
Hanseol who was chewing his pasta said.
“If we hadn’t found the diary we wouldn’t have been able to guarantee victory.”
“Well that’s right.”
I nodded slightly.
“Did you know from the beginning?”
I mean did you know that you had to find the diary?
It felt good to see their eyes sparkling because I could feel their trust and expectations for me but unfortunately I couldn’t keep my form and be positive this time.
“no.”
This is because it took quite a while to get a feel for this contest.
“It was much later that it occurred to me that there might be a diary or equivalent evidence. “To be precise… it was when we concluded that Kim Gap-dong’s crime was atomic.”
After comparing the evidence documents and the stories of the witness NPCs we realized that Kim Gap-dong was completely sober when he stopped taking drugs.
At that moment Article 10 Paragraph 3 of the Criminal Act flashed through my mind.
‘In hindsight it was a simple problem.’
If Article 10 of the Criminal Act which is the cause of liability becomes an issue there are only two areas that can be disputed.
However was it actually a mental and physical disorder?
If the two are correct isn’t that an atomic act?
Therefore it should have been read from the beginning with the possibility of atomic movement in mind.
However I was too focused on the possibility of denying the loss of mind and body itself and as a result it was only during the virtual reality experience that I was able to think of Atomic Hang.
After reaching the conclusion the next step was simple. If nuclear action is the answer evidence revealing Kim Gap-dong’s intent must exist somewhere in virtual reality. In a form that anyone can accept without any room for dispute.
Questions that may have different answers cannot be asked in competitions. This is because it is difficult to resolve the issue if a team disobeys the decision of win or loss.
‘If the evidence is that clear… it must be a text that states the person’s confession.’
The only place where something like that could have been was at Kim Gap-dong’s house. Thanks to my confidence and research from home I was able to find the second diary without wasting any more time.
“Still it’s amazing.”
After my explanation was finished Hanseol was impressed.
“If it were me I wouldn’t have figured out the atomic number by looking at the number of pills or realized that I had to find the diary.”
“It’s not something that deserves such praise.”
It wasn’t humility it was sincerity.

“If we had taken atomic energy into consideration from the beginning we would have been able to find the answer much faster. “I was complacent.”
Even if it was described as a mistake there was nothing to say.
At least it wasn’t an achievement to brag about.
‘Should I call it the finals?’
It was indeed the final stage. No matter how much I was I couldn’t just break through easily.
“It will become more difficult in the future.”
I was so determined.
“This case was designed so that it was impossible to know what to look for in the first place unless the issues and facts were accurately compared. It will be even worse during the next contest. “You’ll want to make the most of the VR device you’ve worked so hard to acquire.”
“huh. “I need to brace myself.”
Hanseol said that and laughed.
“But don’t worry. Because you are there.”
It was a dazzling amount of undeserved trust.
“Even though you say that you found the right path in the end this time right? “I can’t imagine you failing.”
“…I will try my best to repay your trust.”
I had no choice but to answer like that.
* * *
Trial researcher Bang Seung-il was in a state of death these days.
‘I can’t live like this!’
Originally the court was an organization with a heavy workload. According to statistics the average number of cases that one judge handles per year is 464. This figure is five times that of Germany and three times that of Japan.
Even the amount of data that had to be processed for each case varied greatly.
In some cases the documents ended in just a few tens of pages but there were also cases in which the documents were delivered in mountains so much that they had to be transported by cart.
The people who had to share all of that with the judge were the trial researchers.
In some ways it was harder than being a judge. This is because since it is a position that officially ‘assists’ the judge in reality it is necessary to take charge of all tasks except the trial proceedings.
It was only basic to organize the case before the judge research related legal principles and write a review report.
There were many cases where I had to write a draft of a judgment or a final opinion and I also observed the trial in person when necessary.
Including various other chores it was literally a day without a break.
This is even more so these days.
It was none other than preparations for the Jain Court Argument Competition.
It is the judge’s responsibility to create competition issues.
In other words it was also the responsibility of the Trial Research Institute.
‘There’s still a lot to do!’
Bang Seung-il was a trial researcher assisting Associate Judge Kim Ki-cheol.
However as Judge Kim Ki-cheol was chosen to be in charge of preparations for the Jain Court Argument Competition he ended up being in the wrong place to create problems for the competition.
Bang Seung-il poured all his anger that had nowhere to go on the problem.
To the point that Judge Kim Ki-cheol who reviewed the completed document record said something.
“…Isn’t this too difficult to ask kids who are still in law school to solve?”
Kim Ki-cheol was understandably concerned.
The problem created by Bang Seung-il was not simply a matter of knowing the law well but actually required judgment in an area close to reasoning or exploration.
Of course it requires a solid understanding of legal principles.
If you cannot fully digest the concept of free action in terms of cause the idea itself is impossible in the first place.
But that alone wasn’t enough. Effort and sense were needed to closely examine the relationship between evidence and discover the substantive truth.
It was a difficult virtue to expect from law school students who had never had any practical experience.
“Hey you should know how to do this.”
But Bang Seung-il insisted.
I don’t know who will solve this but anyway I was half thinking that I should just screw up for putting myself through this much trouble.
The other half was a desperate struggle realizing that such a heavy workload could not be done all over again.
“Well I’m not sure.”
Judge Kim Ki-cheol made a suggestion to Bang Seung-il.
“Seungil. “Shall we make a bet?”
“What bet are you talking about?”
“If even one student gets 100% correct answers to the answers you gave me I will shoot beef with all the researchers in our court.”
“Oh! But what if it doesn’t come out?”
“If he doesn’t come out you’ll shoot him.”
“Oh my gosh judge don’t do this. “Don’t you know very well that I am Park Bong-in a trial researcher?”
Bang Seung-il was startled and cried.
Compared to my law school classmates who had already gone to law firms my salary was a little more than half and there was no way I could afford it even if I even bought Korean beef.
“haha. “Am I the only one who can do it?”
Of course Judge Kim Ki-cheol did not lose either.
“I heard that my fellow trainees go to law firms and receive KRW 1 billion as basic salary for their annual leave. “If you think about it that way would I be worth 1/10th of it?”
“….”
In the end the bet was settled for saying a word incorrectly.
‘Stop being grumpy!’
I took out my anger on law school students I didn’t even know and ended up betting a huge amount of money.
‘It’s ruined!’
Bang Seung-il thought that his chances of winning the bet were infinitely close to zero.
It was natural. It is a gathering of excellent talents as well as law school students and it would be even more so if they made it to the final round of the Jain Legal Argument Competition.
But that wasn’t enough.
Far from being sufficient a law student’s ‘excellence’ could be a hindrance in these matters.
This is because you must study faithfully as given and focus on repeatedly demonstrating what you know throughout the three years.
‘How can kids who just sit at their desks and study find something like this?…’
Right now Bang Seung-il was a person who had a reputation as a person with tremendous skills when he was a law school student.
Aren’t you working as a trial researcher which is something that is difficult to become in the first place?
Even for trial researchers the competition rate varied depending on the selection site.
Being accepted to the Seoul Judicial Research Institute was truly a sign that he was the brightest of the brightest.
Even Bang Seung-il could not guarantee that he would get the answer 100% correct if he encountered this problem as a law school student.
Of course it was none other than Bang Seung-il himself who set such a vicious level of difficulty. That’s why I couldn’t go anywhere and complain.
“Seungil I heard you’re shooting Korean beef this time?”
“I looked at a good meat restaurant.”
I don’t know when the news spread but even the trial researchers working with him were making fun of Bang Seung-il.
So time passed and today.
It was the day of the competition and also the day when the results of the bet were scheduled to be executed.
However at 5:30 p.m. Judge Kim Ki-cheol came into the trial researcher’s office and said something unexpected.
“Everyone get ready.”
He had a very shocked expression.
“Today’s meat… I shoot it.”
It was a sentence that made me wonder if I had heard it wrong.
However no matter how many times he was asked again Judge Kim Ki-cheol’s answer was the same.
There was a student who perfectly got to the heart of the matter and the judge himself lost the bet.
“I lived!”
At that moment light returned to Bang Seung-il’s pupils which had been like dead eyes.
“This is a miracle…!”
And he swore in his heart:
He said he would definitely ask Judge Kim Ki-cheol to find the benefactor who saved his wallet and repay him somehow.
