Drug-Eating Genius Mage – 9
by Jessie@AFNCC
“This is something new?”
Area 49. Jenny’s bar.
It’s already been fifteen times since I’ve been to her workplace.
Now the dark lobby of this bar is starting to become familiar to my eyes.
Lennok who was sipping the whiskey that Jordon gave him repeated what Jenny said.
“okay. I’m sure you’re not coming here with the intention of just continuing to chase the bounty are you? To be honest if you want to become a bounty hunter there are places with better conditions than here.”
“hmm….”
“I know you like this job very much but to put it bluntly even high-risk criminals with a death order have a certain amount of allowance as long as they are not captured alive. Or do you really want the job of chasing down psychopaths like that?”
“That’s not true.”
There are huge bounties of hundreds of millions of cells placed on the worst criminals who are directly sought and tracked by the Balkan government but that is not Lennok’s goal.
If they are capable of committing a crime without being caught even after enduring a city-wide chase there is a high possibility that they are so difficult and powerful that even Lennok can’t predict it.
There was currently nothing to be gained by confronting such monsters head-on.
When Lennok seemed to be listening a little Jenny seized the moment and continued speaking.
“Of course I’m not that bad of a bitch to stop you from doing what you want to do. But as you said last time it would take quite a lot of money to get a new identity right?”
“……..”
“With your magic there are many things you can do to make a lot of money more easily. “I’m sure you still haven’t taken my nonsense about testing your abilities to heart.”
Lennok who was quietly listening to Jenny burst into laughter inadvertently.
The skill of playing with the tongue is quite good.
It was obvious that she was trying to subtly push Lennok into a more expensive job but I don’t feel bad about her words which were an appropriate mix of praise and provocation.
From her perspective she would also like to deal with work that can earn her more commissions.
In the end Lennok who had been thinking about it nodded.
“good. “What do you want to recommend?”
In fact as she said it is true that in addition to the 20 million cells needed to create an identity more money is needed to expand activities into more diverse areas.
Since I can’t stay in my current small hotel forever I’ll have to find a place to live and various efforts to keep my body healthy will also cost money.
Until now I had been working repeatedly in Area 49 taking my time to familiarize myself with the surrounding atmosphere and avoid being noticed too hastily.
Be careful.

Even if Lennok lets his guard down and makes a mistake his talent will immediately begin to stand out and he will attract attention even if he doesn’t like it.
Of course it is good to have one’s abilities recognized by others but that was only after Lennok had sufficient strength and preparation to defend himself.
Lennok still couldn’t guarantee his own safety in the 40th district where all kinds of criminals roamed around.
At Lennok’s words Jenny opened her face and grinned.
“Good idea. Do you know how many things on this floor require a wizard? “You can just pick anything.”
As she said that she immediately led Lennok to the back of the bar.
I guess this is not a story worth telling in a brightly open place.
The huge cavity behind the bar we found when we brought in Taylor Evans’ body.
After sitting down at the table in the corner Jenny immediately took a file and held it out in front of Lennok.
A report heavily embroidered with small letters in a format completely different from that of a bounty badge.
Lennok picked it up and read it quickly.
While his eyes darted back and forth between the documents Jenny opened her mouth beyond them.
“Charlotte Enterprises’ newly completed cosmetics manufacturing plant in District 42. “There was controversy over collusion because 80% of the construction cost was spent on city government subsidies and in particular there was a lot of talk because there was testimony that the skin lotion scheduled to be manufactured at the factory had undergone extensive human testing.”
“Human experiments?”
“okay. As you can see on page 8 there is information that the entire human facial skin was removed in the fourth review stage to create the most perfect environment for regenerating dead skin.”
Lennok’s eyebrows furrowed involuntarily as he glanced at the page Jenny had mentioned.
This is because the content contained in the report was not only simple text but also very vivid photographs were attached.
“Isn’t the truth already revealed at this level? “I don’t know what else needs to be done.”
“What do you mean?”
Jenny frowned at Lennok’s words.
“Regardless of the authenticity there is no way the Charlotte company will withdraw its hands from the factory because of photos like this. “This is a project that has been funded with government subsidies so should we care if bad rumors spread about it?”
“……..”
“It was the Baritz company that planned this not the city government. “We recently started to branch out into the cosmetics business but Charlotte wants to keep us from expanding further.”
Baritz.
Even Lenok who had just arrived in the Balkans had heard of the company.
If you go to any supermarket or market right now you’ll find countless products bearing the Baritz brand and the familiar wing-shaped logo can be seen on the front and back of cars driving down the street.
It’s probably one of the leading octopus companies in this huge city.
“There are two conditions that Baritz put forward when sending out requests to placement agencies like us. One is that the manufacturing plant will be damaged beyond recovery. Second secure the production process algorithm data of the lotions they produce. 50 million cells in the first condition. “I bet 300 million cells on the second condition.”
Including the success fee it is 350 million cells. It’s a huge amount.
It’s hard to imagine how much you get paid for just doing one job.
However Lennok easily figured out the meaning of the hidden words.
“Does this mean that even if only one of the two succeeds I can still get paid?”
“That’s the way it is.”
“…It would be correct to say that the second condition is virtually impossible to succeed.”
“That’s correct. “Maybe it’s because he’s a wizard but his brain works well?”
The difference in reward between the two success conditions for one request is too large.
From the client’s perspective if we were to estimate the gap in allowances and the difficulty of the work breaching the security of Charlotte Corporation would probably be dozens of times more difficult than destroying the factory.

Jenny shrugged as she took the file back from Lennok.
“Actually it makes no sense to ask for algorithmic data to be taken out. The idea is to infiltrate the factory system management server break through Charlotte Corporation’s firewall and retrieve data. To find a hacker or engineer with that level of skill you’d need over 500 million cells right? “This was just a trick on Balitz’s part because they wanted to hire a hacker at a low price.”
“Do hackers get paid that much?”
It was a refreshing shock to Lennok that no matter how talented they were the labor costs of those working in cyberspace exceeded 500 million cells per case.
start working
“It varies greatly depending on the level of skill but if it was a company like Charlotte they would have replaced engineers who said they were good at building firewalls. “It is only natural for a person capable of breaking through such a strong security network and extracting data without damage to receive hundreds of millions of cells.”
“I see….”
Lennok nodded with a serious face.
When he seemed to have roughly understood the explanation Jenny relaxed and waited for his decision.
Lennok didn’t know that the questions he was asking her were very basic and common sense but Jenny patiently explained them in detail.
This happened because she mistakenly thought that Lennok was a wizard who had trained in a place far from the secular world.
Wizards who learn traditional magic which is very old often concentrate on training in remote areas rather than seeking help from modern civilization and Lennok was thought to be one of those wizards.
In particular in the case of elemental wizards they often do not appear in schools at all until they reach a certain level so it was not strange for Jenny and Zorden to be so mistaken.
After much thought Lennok slowly nodded.
“good. “I think it would be possible to destroy the factory.”
Although he was mistaken for a moment while catching a wanted criminal his job is not to be an apostle of justice who eradicates criminals who violate humanity.
I’m just doing my part in the world of corporations and criminals where profits and losses and grudges go back and forth.
Whether morality and values can be maintained in the meantime depends entirely on Lennok’s choice.
“Jenny said with a grin at Lennok’s words.”
“Then since we have reached a rough agreement I will introduce you to a colleague who will work with me on this project.”
“what?”
“Come in!”
With those words the side door at the back of the joint opened and someone came inside.
Even though he is covered in a dark leather jacket he is a man with a body that is so well-trained that you can tell he is muscular.
He wore a mask of unknown meaning resembling a professional wrestler’s face and had all kinds of metal fittings hanging on his back.
Jenny introduced the man to Lennok with a calm face.
“Dylan O’Casey. I’m a mercenary from the Antares office. “He is a very cheap man who is called here and there to work.”
“Jenny what would you think of me if I spoke like that to a partner I met for the first time today?”
“well. A psychopath wearing a professional wrestler mask?”
“Hahaha!!”
Dylan who burst out laughing despite Jenny’s cold words came up to her and shook her hand.
“Dylan O’Casey. He is a mercenary. He’s my partner who is working with me on this project. “So you’re a wizard?”
Lennok answered hesitantly holding his hand.
“…It’s half. We deal with lightning-type magic. But what does it mean to be a partner?”
“Literally. “It seemed like a daunting task to do alone so I was looking for another person.”
“Why does this annoying woman say she can’t do it alone? “I was waiting because they said they might be able to catch one today.”
“……..”
The atmosphere turned cold for a moment at Dylan’s words which had no pretense but Lennog calmly ignored them.
“Next time I want you to tell me what kind of partner is waiting for me.”
“…I’ll keep that in mind.”
Although he found an unexpected partner Lennok was not very dissatisfied.
If you look at what he is doing now it is no different from looking for a job at a human resources office.
In some ways it wasn’t that surprising that I didn’t know what kind of work I would be able to do that day or who I would be working with in the field.
If you feel like it’s going to hold up your ankle just cut it off cleanly.
It wasn’t strange at all that Dylan was thinking the same thing.
“Then the success allowance of 50 million cells is divided neatly 5 to 5 between the two of you?”
Dylan scratched his mask at Lennok’s words.
“Should I charge a fee to this woman?”
Jenny quickly answered those words.
“This time I didn’t tell Mr. Ban that I had a partner so I won’t take any commission. I felt a bit hasty because Balitz doesn’t often place orders directly. “I apologize.”
Dylan whistled silently.
Even though the 10% commission was not a small percentage Lennok narrowed his eyes at the sight of her giving up and retreating.
Make mistakes and quickly correct them on the spot.
Although it was a good coping mechanism Lennok did not immediately believe that she had made a mistake by accident.
In this way he may be testing Lennok’s reaction little by little to see how far he can go over the line.
If Lennok had been irritated here and raised his magic she might never have even mentioned the word partner in this matter again.
In a way we’re letting Jenny maintain her current attitude but that’s not a bad thing.
It would not be detrimental in the long run to show some kindness and maintain an appropriate relationship here.
This was especially true for Lennok who was planning to raise funds in this way for the time being.
If she really crosses the line it’s not too late to deal with it then. The leadership of this relationship was already gradually being transferred to Lennok.
Jenny perhaps knowing what Lennoc was thinking slapped her palms together and changed the topic.
“Now then let’s take a look at the factory blueprint in Area 42.”
