    Agent Headquarters (2)

“Palaad Okon. “He’s a civil servant holding the position of deputy director of an agent.”

Pallad roughly shook Lennok’s hand and naturally turned around and led the two into the office.

Lennok walked behind him quickly observing the surrounding scenery and Palad’s actions.

His words and actions include combing through his tangled hair and throwing his loosened tie on the corner of the desk.

I can roughly guess what his personality will be like.

Among the intelligence organizations directly under the city government it is the only elite armed group permitted to interfere with and manage outlying areas.

The second-in-command in charge of this huge organization seemed much more relaxed than Lennok had expected.

“As I listened it seemed like they were talking about a very interesting story without me.”

Pallad said lying down on his office chair.

“We just provided the necessary information in advance.”

Palad grinned at Hina’s firm answer.

“Why is the person who was waiting so bored? “It wasn’t even a day or two that the old men of the city council were trying to get rid of the prohibition law.”

    “….”

“But this time the case is definitely different because no matter how senile those old folks were they wouldn’t have planned to destroy this city themselves.”

Meaningful tone. Lennok asked the words that could not be ignored.

“Do you think the Balkans could collapse if the National Guard Command’s plan is successful?”

“If the 30th division is bombed according to their plan then yes.”

    Pallad answered while yawning.

“It may not be a big problem if the densely spread transportation network in a huge city is damaged. “The real problem is that other cities may take advantage of the chaos that has spread to Yangji.”

“It’s the intervention of another city….”

“It’s so big that nothing much has happened so far but the city government has a lot of enemies.”

In an instant the smile on Palad’s lips turned sharp.

“We also contributed to that process.”

    “….”

As Pallad said that he slowly raised his head and looked at Lennok.

“The problem is that those old guys won’t actively try to stop the headquarters’ treason. “Do you understand what I mean?”

“This means that some of the city council members are willing to take some of the damage from the coup.”

    Lennok answered.

    “Maybe I’m hoping for that.”

    “Very accurate.”

Palad who snapped his fingers and pointed at Lennok jumped up from his seat.

“I called you here because I wanted to know if you understood the prerequisites.”

There was a very faint trace of death in Pallad’s eyes as he said that.

“If you don’t understand that the city council is not your ally any further conversation will be meaningless.”

    “….”

Lennok silently took a sip of the cheap coffee that Pallad had roughly brewed.

It should come as no surprise that city council members are not trustworthy allies.

Just by walking around the outskirts of this huge city it was not difficult to realize how diverse and enormous the mistakes and mistakes they made were.

“Councilman Mayer accepted the resolution of this matter as a condition in order to secure a seat on the City Council. So I don’t doubt his true intentions.”

Pallad who slumped down on a chair crossed his arms and said.

“But other lawmakers are different. “As the damage from this incident increases and the danger of the National Guard becomes more urgent for citizens discussions on lifting the ban will become more active.”

“They don’t want the entire city to be swept up in a coup but there will be some level of damage…”

“On the contrary you might be hoping for it.”

Hina and Palad nodded at the same time at Lennok’s words.

“What are the chances that the city council will accept the National Guard’s terms?”

    “It’s very low.”

    Palad answered sharply.

“District 13 is the most strictly managed out of all the closed areas in this city…. The National Guard general was essentially asking the city council to hand over its lifeline. “For those old men who are obsessed with protecting themselves it is a difficult condition to accept even if they wake up dead.”

    It’s a closed area.

Lennok also knew about its existence but he had no idea that he would come into contact with it through the work of the National Guard.

It is likely that both the National Guard and the City Council are sensitive about this not simply for the convenience of the city government but also because there are more secrets hidden there.

Lennok took a sip of the remaining coffee and then opened his mouth.

“Now that I’ve heard enough about the situation I’d like to get to the point.”

    “Get to the point.”

“I don’t think a man as high as the deputy director of an agent called someone because he had an itchy mouth.”

Palad and Lennok’s calm gazes collided in the air.

“Isn’t this what you have prepared for me because you have a wish on behalf of Evelyn?”

“That’s straightforward. “Our civil servants are not used to that type of speech.”

    Pallad said bursting into laughter.

    Lennok chuckled at those words.

“That’s not something someone who was happily chewing on the city council just a moment ago would say.”

    “that….”

“If the person in charge of this agenda which is not surprising even if the agent puts all his effort into it is the deputy director rather than the director then he must have his own circumstances.”

    “….”

“But it’s none of my business.”

As Lennok said that he put down his coffee cup and took out a cigar from his arms.

“I am not interested in the detailed factional fights within the agent. “The important thing is what plan you have for this matter.”

It can be assumed that Palad Okon took over some of Mayer’s work.

Since Mayer has promised sufficient compensation and privileges there is no need to worry about compensation for the work they offer.

However exactly what kind of picture the agent was drawing was a question that Lennok had to consider.

If you had brought in an external advisor who had no contact with anyone else except Evelyn it would have ended up being-

This is probably because there is a need to fill the void in the force that Evelyn was responsible for.

    “…Amazing. “That’s right.”

Palad who had been silent after hearing Lennok’s thoughts slowly nodded.

“This was the mobile fortress attack operation that should have been carried out by Team Leader Marcia. “I would like to leave the essence of it to you.”

    “….”

“But you and the woman who handled difficult tasks with responsibility and good intentions are completely different people. So it was necessary to understand the intention accurately. “No one would easily accept a request to deal with a moving fortress no matter how enormous the price.”

    “Keep talking.”

“…Moreover asking for cooperation in the countless armed conflicts that will occur in the process is a difficult thing to say. “That’s what I’m curious about.”

Pallad asked pouring freshly brewed coffee into Lennok’s empty cup.

“The lives of over 20 million people living in the 30th district. Are you willing to go out of your way to save them even if it means risking failure and sacrifice?”

    “….”

“There is a difference between a sense of justice and responsibility. However no matter how much the price is not many people are willing to throw away their lives out of responsibility.”

    Palad’s eyes shone sharply.

“But depending on your definition you can give everything. Eveline Marcia was that kind of person.”

    “Deputy Director.”

Hina called out to Palad from next to him but he didn’t stop.

“That’s why Team Leader Marcia expects something similar from you who he cares about so much. “We are in such urgent need right now.”

He asked speaking slowly as if taking a breath.

“May I ask whether something similar lives in your heart?”

    “no.”

    Lennok responded harshly.

“I’m sorry but I have no connection with such noble feelings.”

    “…”

“But I know roughly what I have to do.”

People’s lives order and safety of the city. I don’t remember paying much attention to such things.

It’s been a long time since he lived from day to day but that doesn’t mean Lennok’s perspective has changed.

Still the scenery Lennok sees has not changed.

In the face of a future where tomorrow cannot be guaranteed and a reality where no guarantees are possible I have tried to focus on many things other than the safety of strangers.

I don’t think I stopped even for a single moment but I still feel like it’s not enough.

But if there’s one thing in this wildly chaotic city that doesn’t require a reason it’s it.

“I can’t just leave these guys interfering with my business.”

    “…It’s decided.”

    Palad nodded.

“Then let’s go straight to the strategy meeting.”

    * * *

After Lennoch accepted his agent’s offer things moved quickly.

It seems that Palad still had no idea about Lennok’s business or the specifics of the story but it wasn’t a big problem.

The only thing that matters is that for this matter only he is willing to replace Evelyn’s absence.

An agreement that beyond the level of cooperation with Representative Mayer the force can be supplemented during the agent’s handover process.

Pallad said exchanging information they knew with each other.

“There are three things we must do.”

He raised his hand and said folding his fingers one by one.

“Detection of a National Guard intelligence unit hiding inside the city. Neutralization of mobile forts and headquarters generals. Lastly check the intervention of power on the gear side.”

“Ban is aware of information related to Gearside so we can talk quickly.”

It seems that the agents including Mayer have tracked down the existence of Gearside by investigating the members they have already captured alive.

“The first thing that must be dealt with is the elimination of the National Guard’s intelligence unit.”

“Are you saying that we can only begin to neutralize the fortress after we have clearly organized the internal affairs?”

“Agent Intelligence is working with Congressman Mayer’s operations team to pattern the appearance points of the National Guard surprise forces and create a movement prediction algorithm.”

    Hina said.

“The manpower and programs needed to support the operation will be completed in approximately 30 hours.”

“Congressman Mayer also decided to collect the personnel that had been negotiated in advance and hand over the list to us.”

Did you find something you could do even in a situation where you couldn’t move yourself and ask your agent for cooperation?

“By dawn the day after tomorrow all necessary preparations will be completed and we will be able to begin operations. If that happens there are only ten days left.”

Pallad spoke firmly pressing his forehead with one hand.

“Within 10 days we will clean up the National Guard’s special forces and stop the mobile fortress. “That’s all you have to do.”

    “good.”

Lennok nodded and immediately stood up.

He understood what the agent had called him for.

The most important task is to predict the movements of the National Guard’s special forces and deal with those who will appear to secure data.

If the operation can begin at dawn the day after tomorrow at the earliest there will be enough time to prepare before then.

However Palad stopped Lennok as he tried to turn away.

“Wait a minute if it’s not urgent there’s one more thing I’d like to ask you.”

    “what?”

“All available execution staff will be deployed to the site for this task. “Most of them have experience in carrying out missions but there are few who have dealt with someone as capable as you.”

    Pallad said.

“For the sake of those friends I want to conduct a mock training before the operation begins. From your perspective I think it will be an experience of street fighting against a large number of people. What do you think?”

    “It seems pointless.”

    Lennok responded.

“There are too many variables so one training session won’t help. “It’s fortunate that you don’t get injured and lose strength.”

    “That’s exactly what I want.”

    “…what?”

A mischievous smile spread across Palad’s face as he clasped his palms together.

“Didn’t you say all agents? It’s difficult like this. “We need a proper justification for withdrawing troops.”

    “…I see.”

Lennok instantly understood Palad’s intention and grinned.

“Isn’t it their intention for all agents to be mobilized for the operation?”

“While you are clearing out the National Guard intelligence unit our agent will stand by near Area 13 and monitor the situation.”

    Palad’s eyes shone sharply.

“If the intelligence unit’s forces are cornered they will start to react in a different way. “It is highly likely that the direction they are heading towards is Area 13 their goal.”

    “….”

“It’s not something that ends in one operation. If we do well we will be able to clearly understand and draw out the hidden power behind the National Guard. And that will be an important starting point in the future mobile fortress attack operation.”

Rather than accomplishing the three objectives in different ways the intention is to draw out all the clues for the next operation during one operation.

A firm determination to find an efficient method even if necessary by violating the city council’s supervision.

I can vaguely feel how many different ways and perspectives Pallad Ocon is looking at this matter.

But even after hearing those words Lennok shook his head.

“There isn’t much time. Find someone else. “There’s no need to use me as an excuse right?”

“You have to be thorough in your excuses to the old guys on the city council. “If you were involved in this matter from the beginning those suspicious old men wouldn’t say anything.”

    “hmm….”

    Still I’m not that reluctant.

Even if it’s just a matter of justification wasting time and manpower on something like this without getting anything in return…

“Knowing this would happen I snagged a nice item from the director’s safe.”

Pallad seeing Lennok’s sour face immediately took something out of his office desk.

“It may not be necessary for someone as skilled as you but it will be of great help if you share it with your friends. “Is the price still not enough?”

    “…no.”

    Lennok shook his head.

    “That’s more than enough.”

The items in Palad’s hands were five pencils with numerous magic characters written on them.

In order to ask Lennok for a mock training session he brought Enakpil’s five fingers as a reward.

    * * *

    “Are you okay?”

A mock training ground located in the basement of the agent building.

The appearance of the entire cityscape in a vast vast hollow is so realistic that you would not think it was underground.

Hina and Palad were looking at Lennok’s figure from the control room of the training ground.

    “What do you mean?”

“If you are caught stealing and using the director’s belongings the repercussions will be significant.”

    “I said something else.”

    Pallad snorted at Hina’s words.

“She has no interest in being an agent anymore. “He’s so absorbed in the hole he’s dug that he doesn’t even go to work. Will he even remember what’s missing?”

    “that….”

“I’m just leaving it alone for now because it’s good to use it as a shield but I’ve already finished talking to the team leaders of each department. “It looks like you haven’t been properly handed over yet.”

“After going around so many different departments….”

Palad who was looking down at Hina who was speechless glanced away.

“I understand your desire to play on the field but if you can’t manage your condition yourself it would be better to make up your mind sooner.”

    “…”

Hina did not answer but Pallad did not force her to answer.

Although she has weak physical strength and difficulty moving for a long time due to a congenital illness her swordsmanship and military power are at a considerable level.

Not only does she do her part in any department but her position is quite special within this organization as she has built up relationships with various higher-ups within the agent.

There are quite a few departments that want her as a capable agent who combines force and intelligence.

The problem is that Hina herself extremely prefers the work of the field armed response team directly managed by Evelyn.

The attitude of not settling for a comfortable place and seeking out work yourself is commendable but you must also know how to give up if the environment and aptitude do not suit you.

However instead of giving such an obvious advice Palad turned his gaze towards the lower part of the training ground.

    “It looks like you’re ready.”

An artificially constructed lower crosswalk in the city.

Lennok leaning under an old traffic light and lighting a cigarette slowly stood up.

Pallad looked at Lennok like that and smiled strangely.

“He is by far the wizard with the most special talent in this town. “Let’s check out those skills.”

There was no need to search through the director’s warehouse and entrust Lennok with this task.

Only by directly checking here and making an estimate the extent of the skills of the wizard who should be the key to this matter will we be able to plan future operations in detail.

However Palad only asked for this in a more sophisticated way considering his relationship with Rennok and Evelyn.

    “It won’t be easy.”

Hina answered with a slightly tired expression.

“At least no one I know has done that.”
