    Volcanic area (1)

Two days since leaving the Balkans.

The group arrived near the volcanic area faster than expected and stopped at a pre-selected stopover to resupply supplies and take a rest.

Since there is no stopping on the way back after completing the investigation of the Magic Tower you must replenish various supplies including oil here.

Since he might get caught in the Magic Tower’s surveillance network from here on out Lennok also changed his face appropriately.

Although he couldn’t show Evelyn changing his magic pattern in front of her eyes it would be difficult to recognize Lennok if he barely concealed his presence with the Nyx insignia.

There is no reason to reveal first that the Aspect Wizard is with us on this journey.

Evelyn decided that shaking hands was the only way to openly reveal the power of the Blaver Magic Tower as it was unclear where exactly its course of action was heading.

“There’s someone I’m supposed to meet here. “We arrived earlier than expected so we have no choice but to wait.”

    “Who are you talking about?”

“This visit to Blayver Magic Tower is not simply something that the Balkan city government does arbitrarily.”

Evelyn who was sitting in front of the firewood pile and casting her magic spell said.

    Crack!

In an instant the embers that jumped between the fingers caught on to the pile of dry wood and ignited creating a small bonfire.

She continued speaking after throwing a pile of firewood into the fireplace of her stopover accommodation.

“If it’s just Balkan acting unreasonably there’s no way the other side will accept it. So we decided to borrow the name of another city.”

    “What if it’s another city?”

    “Machine City Machina.”

    Evelyn answered.

“This is a customer who greedily consumes the materials made by Blaver Magic Tower which is as important as its share in the steel industry.”

    Boom boom!!

As soon as I finished speaking I heard someone knocking harshly on the door of the dorm.

As soon as the agent who was taking a break released the lock a heavy ball of fur fell into the room.

    dump!!

A hoarse voice came out from among the messy dusty fur.

    “Mu water….”

As the trembling thing let out a sigh and fell limp there was a soft silence inside the dorm.

Lennok turned his head wordlessly and stared at Evelyn.

“Are you sure that this furball is the envoy of the Machine City?”

“…Let’s save it first and think about it.”

After Lennok roughly wiped away the fur ball with cleansing magic and the agents brought water the group was able to see exactly what the other person looked like.

A middle-aged man with a very thick beard.

Although he is not that short he has a fairly thick physique due to his body being wide on the sides.

“Uhm… thank you for helping me.”

A serious expression and a heavy voice that matches it.

The man who introduced himself as Mouser lowered his head as he looked around at the group with a more relaxed complexion.

“I was very rude when we first met. “I was so thirsty that I was on the verge of death.”

“What happened to the other party members?”

Evelin asked with a cold expression.

“I heard that Machina will form a group similar to ours and move.”

Mouser scratched his beard at her words.

The agents looked horrified when something wriggling came out from inside the beard but they held their ground with superhuman patience.

“Uhm well… I was moving with my group until a day ago but I was the only one left along the way. “I don’t know where it went wrong.”

    “Are you saying that now?”

Seeing Evelyn’s cold appearance which was completely different from when she was dealing with Lennok Mouser also seemed to feel an unknown chill and broke into a cold sweat.

“I don’t really remember that. I clearly remember entering a strange cave but after that I was left alone lying down in the middle of the meadow. “I somehow managed to get here by looking at the night sky and pointing out the direction but… there was no food left.”

“Tell me more about the cave.”

Mouser thought deeply about Lennok’s words.

“There were stones here and there that gave off a strange glow. Even though I pride myself on having handled quite a lot of ore it was a type of ore I had never seen before. Out of curiosity I tried to collect one but it was stuck in the wall and wouldn’t come off easily. thereupon….”

    “thereupon?”

“It looks like you just passed out.”

    “….”

Mouser said shrinking slightly from the cold stares of his companions.

“Don’t look at me like that. I was just doing my duty as a blacksmith! “How can you not go into a cave like that?!”

“I wish you would have paid attention to your promise to us first at least for today…”

    Evelyn said and sighed.

“Do you have any means of finding out the whereabouts of your companions? If not let’s go to the Magic Tower on our own. “If you don’t make it at the promised time the Magic Tower may use that as an excuse to refuse entry.”

    “That…”

Mouser broke out in a cold sweat but in the end he couldn’t say anything and kept his mouth shut.

“Maybe the Blader Mage Tower has already retrieved the group members and is taking care of them. “I think it would be better to think about it after entering the volcanic area.”

“Ah I see… I’m sure my other colleagues know how to see constellations as well as I do so it won’t be difficult to find the direction.”

Lennok was lost in thought leaving the furry boy behind who nodded with a slightly downcast expression.

    ‘It’s a cave…’

In this world full of all kinds of mysteries and secrets Lennok’s general knowledge of the terrain does not apply.

However it is awkward in many ways that Evelyn was not aware of the fact that there was a cave nearby that would be of interest to Mouser an industrial engineer in the Machine City.

Maybe it has something to do with Blaber Magic Tower’s recent actions.

Evelyn may have guessed it to some extent but it seemed like she wanted to avoid being delayed by exploring the cave immediately.

In the first place since this visit itself was a meeting that took place by exercising the power of two cities they did not want to give the Magic Tower an excuse to reject their promise.

Since it would be possible to explore the cave even after entering the volcanic area he probably thought it was right to take care of urgent matters first.

“Then let’s take a rest today and go into the volcanic area early tomorrow morning.”

Evelyn said while looking around the group.

“Even inside the volcanic area there will be no significant danger or shortage of supplies as the settlement is centered around the Magic Tower. “Maybe we can find Mouser’s group inside.”

    “I understand.”

Mouser nodded and suddenly started snoring.

“But is there any beer around here? “If you don’t mind me being rude I’d like to share a drink with you to help you sleep better tonight.”

    “….”

Although it must be human is it a mistake to think of a race that Lennok has only read about in books?

In the end the party found supplies of beer stored in a warehouse at a stopover and fed him more than three cans before they succeeded in putting him to sleep.

The agents looked suspiciously at Mouser who was half asleep rubbing his stomach with a red face.

    “Can you trust that person?”

Evelyn let out a small sigh in response to the agent’s question.

“It’s definitely true based on the list we checked in advance. He is the head of the Avamer Workshop a well-known name in the machine city of Machina. “This time I volunteered because I wanted to see with my own eyes the metals produced at Blaver Magic Tower for the first time in a long time.”

“Then it seems unlikely that the Magic Tower was responsible for the disappearance of that party.”

    Lennok said.

“Machine City. “And if you treated the famous workshop leader and his party harshly the damage would be enormous.”

“I think so too but… you never know. In fact this trip is about checking that out.”

    “….”

“Let’s end this for today and talk again tomorrow. “That’s what I said but if you want to last long in the volcanic area you’ll need to replenish your energy.”

    * * *

Claoronis a volcanic area where the Blaver Tower is located is a very famous area in the Balkan region full of all kinds of mysterious natural phenomena.

It is not easy to think that it is not a dormant volcano that has stopped its activity and that volcanoes that actually spew lava have gathered nearby to form a huge volcanic area.

It would not be ordinary for the headquarters of the Magic Tower which handles flame-type unique magic to be located in such a place.

In the modern magical world where old superstitions and prejudices have disappeared and theory and empirical evidence have gained the upper hand wizards recognize that it is more efficient to borrow the power of tools or teachers rather than special environments.

However despite this the Blader Magic Tower which continued to practice magic in high-temperature disaster zones was one of the very conservative groups that insisted on tradition even in academia that had become quite flexible in recent years.

“In terms of being conservative and sticking to tradition it is comparable to the Sinclair Magic Tower.”

Evelyn muttered while looking at the surrounding scenery passing by.

After entering the volcanic area the conversation among the group decreased significantly but she still didn’t break a sweat.

The speed of the off-road jeep for climbing a mountain with somewhat rough terrain was comfortable but the air got hotter as you went up the mountain making it suffocating.

The flowers and bushes that had bloomed little by little under the volcanic area gradually disappeared and now all that is visible is black rocks and a sky smeared with ash.

If that were all even the agents who had trained their bodies with magic wouldn’t keep quiet but not many people would be able to maintain their usual attitude even after seeing a river of lava flowing right next to the jeep.

Only Lennock was sitting in the back of the jeep with a nonchalant expression wriggling his fingers.

“But Blaver Magic Tower. Among them the West Continent branch is well-regarded because it entered the steel industry using the environment as a weapon instead of being bound by old traditions. “This place which handles enormous amounts of heat deserves to be called one of the best blacksmiths on the continent.”

    “….”

“Naturally various transportation and trade routes are connected here to smelt all kinds of rare metals and the amount of capital flowing in continues to increase. Experts say that if this continues it would not be impossible for a village to be formed near a volcanic area…”

Evelyn who continued speaking like that suddenly took out an arrow from her belt and swung it.

    Wow!!

A green flash raced through the thick rocks and pierced something.

Something that had been running towards the group from behind the rock suddenly lost its strength and collapsed revealing itself.

    [Keeeeee….]

A four-legged animal. Although it has an appearance that resembles a hyena its body is actually made of rock and a hot substance similar to lava flows through the joints.

The beast which had been pierced through the head let out a faint sigh and fell down but the liquid flowing out of the beast’s body immediately began to burn and consume the Jeep’s tires.

    Cheap!!

    “…It’s a lava monster.”

The agent quickly put the Jeep in reverse to minimize damage but more than two tires already had to be replaced.

“I heard that it sometimes appears near volcanic areas… but this is my first time actually seeing it.”

“Because it’s not often that you have to travel to and from a volcanic area bare-handed like this.”

“It seems like the problem doesn’t just appear occasionally.”

    [Krrrrrrr…!!]

The sight of an animal dripping hot saliva between large rocks.

It’s not just one or two it’s more than dozens.

“Ha… Let’s deal with it first and then talk about it again.”

The moment Evelin and other agents stood up while sighing.

    Hwaaaaa!!!

Suddenly a white wave came from behind and swept away the lava monsters running from the front.

A sharp chill that instantly freezes the stuffy air of the volcanic area.

Before the source of the emanation could be properly identified the monsters swept away by the wave of cold began to thrash and scream in pain.

    [Keeeeeeek!!]

Just by changing the temperature of the body which is always hot one suddenly loses vital response and collapses.

The waves of cold did not stop at the first wave but spread to every corner of the rocky area as if resonating one after another clearing a path and clearing away obstacles in an instant.

One of the agents who was looking at the scene muttered with an astonished expression.

“A freezing technique like this in a place where there is no water….”

Attention is focused on the person who instantly painted the surrounding dark red rocky area white.

Lennoc calmly accepted the gaze and walked away.

    “Go right away.”

Books on Farden McQueen’s techniques were not the only items taken from the cartel’s executive safe.

In Lennok’s hand was a book that was different from the [The Main Path] he had been reading all along.

[Ice magic that even beginners can easily follow.]

Although the title was very intuitive the title of the book is not that important. What is more important than anything else is the content.

While thinking that Lennok who was quietly putting a book into his coat made eye contact with Evelyn.

    “…?”

I thought I hid it quickly but it seems I couldn’t fool Evelyn’s eyes.

She blinked a few times and began to look at Lennok with a slightly confused expression.

    “….”

All Lennok could do was slightly avert his gaze.
