Drug-Eating Genius Mage – 14
by Jessie@AFNCC
A week has passed.
Instead of immediately accepting Jenny’s request Lennok postponed it and hunted bounties a couple of times.
This was to separately check whether there were any shooting assist magics that had not yet been utilized in actual combat.
Except for [Bloody Chase] which is used when tracking bounties we attempted to actively use only shooting auxiliary magic instead of lightning magic binding or magic with strong destructive power.
Now that I was so used to dealing with bounty criminals it was possible because there was less pressure without having to rely heavily on magic.
The results were satisfactory.
The moment they approached inside the range they simply pulled out both feet and hit both thighs so the bounties had to crawl on the floor without being able to do anything.
With [Aim Correction] it was possible to easily capture other bounty criminals alive and hand them over to Zordon as long as the revolver’s range allowed.
If you add the [Silence] magic to it it is not difficult at all to subdue the target without even a rat knowing.
It was simple yet effective and Lennok was able to earn an additional 10 million cells in 10 days.
However it is not completely without drawbacks.
The combination of the revolver and auxiliary magic has upgraded the gun’s specifications by several levels but there are clear limitations to the shooting combo created in this way.
In the end no matter how much shooting assist magic you use it can only end up making the gun shoot faster and stronger.
This is because it is a magic that assists the act of shooting itself rather than giving any effect to the gun fired.
The number of auxiliary magics that a gun can handle is limited but the problem arises because efficiency is concentrated in a narrow area.
Considering these limitations and maximizing the efficiency of shooting combo magic it will be necessary to select and focus on specializing in one area rather than raising the gun’s specifications in all areas.
And that was a difficult task at least with such an ordinary revolver.
In the end in order to achieve better performance than now a new route was needed whether it was a better gun or a more powerful auxiliary magic.
Even if you invest money to solve the problem of the gun itself you will eventually have to obtain a unique magic system in order to obtain more powerful auxiliary magic.
Even if it is a relatively low-value auxiliary magic series is it possible to obtain unique magic using the money he has?
And is it worth it?
‘…I need to look for related cases.’
Lennok was lost in thought as he walked down the street.
In WORLD’s magic system auxiliary magic related to shooting existed only within the common magic system.
In the first place it was natural because the Magic Musketeer profession itself could not learn unique magic.
Therefore after obtaining a more powerful auxiliary class unique magic system Lennoc planned to modify the shooting auxiliary magic of the common magic that he knew within that system.

But what should he do if the unique auxiliary magic in this world is different from what he knows? What if there is no room left to modify shooting assist magic?
‘You have to think about it as much as possible.’
Nothing is certain. Therefore we had to be more careful.
It is important to understand the power of shooting assist magic but you should not become obsessed with it.
There was a lot of work to be done. Now Lennok is having a hard time maintaining the delicate balance of his life.
It wasn’t strange if my ankle got caught in one place and I couldn’t resist and fell.
When he entered the bar Jenny was waiting for him smoking a cigarette.
When I first met him he didn’t put anything in his mouth but these days he lives with acting.
It seemed like he had been holding back until he got to know Lennok properly.
Jenny made eye contact with him and slowly stood up from the bar she was leaning on.
“You’ve finally arrived. “Did you enjoy your vacation?”
As she said that she held out her hand as if asking for something.
“Amnak Pharmaceutical Company right? “I don’t have time so give it to me quickly.”
“How did you know?”
When Lennok took out the documents from his arms and handed them over he asked and Jenny laughed.
“That’s the only request that has a deadline until today. And since you are strangely interested in medicine I thought that was the case.”
“hmm….”
Lennok nodded calmly saying it wasn’t wrong.
“Anyway contact them. Do I need to make a separate appointment or is it possible to have a briefing here?”
As I asked while sitting on an empty chair at the bar Jenny immediately picked up the phone.
“Just wait a moment. “Maybe someone involved will come this way.”
“Is it that urgent?”
Lennok muttered that but Jenny already seemed busy talking to someone over the phone.
I had no choice but to open a glass of liquor on the counter when someone sitting across from me spoke to Lennok.
“That was the new customer Jenny was talking about.”
A gentleman with a dignified appearance dressed in a suit. Although he looks younger than Jordan he has a weighty face that appears to be old enough.
Lennok asked staring at the man who was tilting his glass with his back straight.
“Do you know me?”
“I know. Isn’t he the lightning wizard of the moment? Rumors are already spreading around here. “He is a very vicious bounty hunter who is crazy about the bounty and chases down common criminals.”
“……..”
Certainly we have been making money by tracking down and catching bounty criminals on a regular basis so there is nothing to say even if we are called that.
Compared to Lennok’s various abilities catching a bounty criminal was quite easy and did not require much effort and above all it had the advantage of being able to select the target himself.
As I tried to avoid getting involved with large-scale organizations as much as possible and chased after guys with somewhat satisfactory bounties it seemed like the rumor had spread.
“I don’t mean it in a bad way. “In the first place there are two types of bounties in this city.”
“Two types?”
“These are minnows that no one will care about even if they disappear at any time. Or big guys who won’t even care what’s coming for their necks.”
“…It’s very extreme.”

“yes. Because the people in between are trying to live while maintaining a certain level of good. Same here in District 49. Not a day goes by without a murder a robbery or a gunshot being heard but everyone still tries to keep the line and move. “Am I wrong?”
Certainly there are some unwritten rules here that you feel with your skin even if they are not said in words.
The existence of freelancers who receive compensation for complete indifference. Various requests are made through arrangers.
The man’s words had a pleasant tone that could be taken lightly but the content was serious enough to make you think about it at least once.
“so. “Who are you?”
“You’re so quick to ask.”
He smiled faintly took out a business card from his arms and flicked it with his fingers.
Lennok unconsciously raised his finger to take it but then stopped.
The business card that the man threw out was floating very slowly in the air.
superpower
A miracle that clearly breaks the laws of physics. However no magical power was captured by Lennok’s sharp senses.
The man clasped his hands as he watched Lenok hold the business card with two fingers.
“Call me Sebastian. “I’m doing something similar to Jenny.”
If it’s similar to Jenny’s it means that she is also in the business of connecting clients and freelancers and receiving commissions in return.
To put it bluntly he was her business partner and competitor.
But Lennok was more focused on thinking about what had just happened.
There are quite a few abilities that can be used without magical power but the number of abilities that work in the way Sebastian just showed is limited.
Intuitive and visible results. A transfer without any particular foreshadowing. Considering that it doesn’t seem to have any special consumption value it’s probably the type that consumes mental power.
The answer was fixed.
“…He was a psychic.”
It is also a fairly popular category of people who exercise telekinesis.
At Lennok’s words the man burst into laughter with a cheerful expression.
“ha ha ha!! “Isn’t it obvious that it was shown so openly in front of our eyes?”
“……..”
“I guess the rumor that he was training somewhere outside the country and then came to the city is true. Normally there wouldn’t be many cases where you would be surprised to see someone with superpowers. “In terms of rarity a young wizard like you is actually much more common than an old man like me.”
In WORLD superpowers had the advantage of being very intuitive but to put it bluntly they were not abilities that had great applicability or were good for digging into.
Therefore there were few players who chose superpowers as their main priority… but here superpowers were only innate abilities so it was natural that such common sense would not apply.
“Sebastian when are you going to come and play tricks on my customers again?”
Meanwhile Jenny who had finished the phone call came striding towards me and raised her voice.
Her sharply raised eyes were nothing short of murderous but he leisurely sat back and waved his hand.
“We just talked for a moment. “Don’t get too excited.”
“For some reason I thought I wouldn’t see you for a while so I knew it wouldn’t be fun if it showed up like this.”
“Of course I gave the business card to that wizard friend but I also came because I had something to give to our confident young lady.”
Sebastian calmly ignored Jenny’s words took out a file from the briefcase he was carrying and handed it to her.
As soon as Jenny received it she opened it on the spot and started reading through it. It was her behavior.
It didn’t take long for confusion to appear on her face as she read through the documents inside.
“draft call? Why is this coming out now?”
“It’s proof that the city government is on fire. “Have you not seen the news?”
Jenny responded with annoyance at Sebastian’s words.
“I heard there are more than two months left until the delegation from the Philenom Dominion visits. “Does it make sense that an order like this is already coming when a proper response team hasn’t been formed yet?”
“It’s definitely not common.”
He leaned slightly inside the bar and spoke in a low voice.
“The rumor I heard is that one of the city council members is pushing this agenda very strongly.”
“….You mean there wasn’t enough money to feed them?”
“That’s unlikely. Aren’t we in a relationship where we hold each other’s weaknesses and hold each other’s shoulders? “There is a lot of speculation that there is something else they want rather than that.”
Lennok was listening to the conversation between the two while tipping his glass.
The two didn’t seem to have any intention of hiding anything from Lennok so they just kept talking with him nearby.
Listening to what he said it seemed like the city government had issued a separate summons to private businesses due to the visit of a delegation from the Philenom Autonomous Territory which was the news he had seen yesterday.
Considering that Sebastian who worked in a similar job to Jenny came with such news it seemed like he had specifically summoned the middlemen on this floor separately and judging by the expressions on the two people’s faces it didn’t seem like it was a light agenda.
The expression on his face was serious but the conversation ended quickly.
They both know that no matter what they do here and there there will be no immediate conclusion.
Sebastian downed the rest of his drink and stood up to shake Lennok’s hand.
“Then I will go. If you ever want to try something different from what Jenny is arranging please contact me at any time. “I will be able to provide you with different rewards in a different way than with her.”
After saying that he picked up his briefcase with telekinesis and then left the bar and disappeared.
Jenny who was crossing her arms while looking at the back grumbled.
“Anyway he’s a dark person on the inside.”
“Is this someone you’ve known from the beginning?”
“Sebastian? He settled down on this floor before me. He’s pretending to run a company in District 45 but he and his customers are all similar. “It’s extremely uncomfortable.”
Looking at the conversation it seemed like they were not just acquaintances but Jenny continued to grumble as if she was displeased.
Lennok pretended to drink and listened to her words. Somehow she was saying more and more nonsense.
“Well it’s okay to admit that you’re making tongue-in-cheek remarks towards rich people and businessmen. “If you want to receive a request from an individual it wouldn’t be a bad idea to go there at least once.”
Still Lennok was a little surprised by Jenny’s words which seemed to acknowledge Sebastian.
If they were competing for the same freelance job it wouldn’t be strange to block him from going but Jenny didn’t seem to want to obsess too much about that fact.
When Lennok asked her that she shrugged.
“Does the businessman tell the customer not to go so the customer doesn’t leave? “I just do what I can.”
“I see….”
If Jenny said that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get some work from Sebastian at least once.
The requests she received from companies and other organizations were flawless but to be honest the requests she received from individuals were often boring.
If Sebastian could present conditions that would pique Lennok’s ear Lennok could also look for work with an open mind.
“Enough about him what happened to the request?”
They must have finished talking with Amnac Pharmaceuticals but there has been no word or response yet.
The proposed deadline is today. Could it be that they have already found a separate client?
Lennok can just find another job but it’s an unpleasant ending for Jenny who has been weeding out requests for a long time.
But instead of getting annoyed she answered with a strange frown.
“I’ll be there soon.”
“what?”
“When I called they said they would come directly. So I just left it alone.”
As soon as he finished speaking someone pushed open the door of the bar and came inside.
A shabby suit a tired face an old bag in his hand and an awkward expression in the dark lighting.
It gives the impression that it is far from a bar with clouds of smoke blowing in the air.
Lennok probably didn’t look that different when he first came here. Because he wasn’t the type of person on Earth who liked pubs or bars like this.
However humans are creatures of adaptation and as we regularly set foot here to make money we just got used to it.
He saw Jenny leaning against the bar then hesitantly approached her and asked.
“There’s someone I’m supposed to meet here…”
Jenny blurted out one word.
“Amnak?”
“Oh yes… that’s right.”
“I’m Jenny. “This is class.”
Only then did he discover Lennok’s presence and bowed his head with a surprised face.
“Nice to meet you. “My name is Luan Sage sales manager at Amnac Pharmaceuticals.”
“It’s half.”
After exchanging greetings Seiji fiddled with his bag as if trying to take something out without even sitting down.
Jenny looked at that and shook her head and said.
“I’ll give you a separate room so let’s talk there first.”
It was clearly not a good place to host clients.
Jenny took the two people up the stairs behind the bar and headed to the second floor of the building.
“…If you had a room like this shouldn’t you have told me sooner?”
Jenny scoffed when Lennok exclaimed in disgust when he saw the room which had a neat and quiet atmosphere that seemed to have been copied from the living room of a sophisticated hotel.
“What are you talking about when you always receive requests and run away?”
“…….”
It was true that whenever he received work all he wanted to do was go back to his hotel room and rest or study magic so Lennok kept his mouth shut.
Seiji sat down with a much better complexion as if he was used to the atmosphere of this room.
“I don’t have time so can we get straight to the point?”
As he said that without waiting for an answer he immediately took out a piece of paper from his bag and handed it to Lennok.
“The fact that you accepted our proposal means that you already have some understanding of this request.”
“I did look at the contents.”
As Lennok responded he recalled the contents of the request proposed by the pharmaceutical company.
Currently Amnac Pharmaceuticals is developing a tranquilizer through small-scale crowdfunding.
Since the company has achieved much more visible results compared to its size there is a positive outlook that it will far exceed the company’s current net profit.
The problem is that there is pressure coming from the district clinics in the district where their headquarters are located to hand over the patent for the drug under development.
The district councilor in question is one of the district maintainers and is closely connected to one of the gangs in the backworld and is using those connections to put pressure on the pharmaceutical company.
Amnak’s side is trying various methods to prevent this and one of them is to spread their hands on the floor.
“So what exactly do I need to do?”
“Contrary to what is known externally as being under development the development of a new drug is currently completely completed.”
Seiji spoke in a much calmer voice.
“When the district council member thought that the development of the drug was not complete I was planning to secretly submit the sample to the Patent Office but it became difficult after the information leaked within the company.”
“You mean there’s a spy.”
It was also common on Earth for companies to plant spies and steal information from each other.
If you are a large company you can prevent this to some extent by having the system do the work instead of people but in the case of a small pharmaceutical company it will be helpless.
Seiji nodded and took out a photo from her bag and held it out to him.
A warehouse located in a remote alley. Judging from the fact that none of the surrounding buildings were very tall it seemed to be closer to the outskirts of the city than a downtown area.
“After becoming aware that there was a spy within the company the president moved samples of the developed new drug here. This is because they were concerned that the district council member might steal the sample through coercive means. The problem is that it is almost certain that this information itself has been leaked.”
Listening to what he said it seemed like security had no meaning at Amnac Pharmaceuticals but Lennok understood.
In a small company it would not be enough to silence employees with a relatively loose system.
If you give them enough money and promise that there will be no repayment there will be quite a few people who will open their mouths.
“If information is leaking anyway there is no point in moving samples around anymore.”
Lennok picked up the photo and turned it over. Area 54. Number 8. The address of the warehouse was written in light cursive.
“I contacted the Patent Office and received approval to submit the samples the day after tomorrow. “I would like to entrust the wizard with the task of retrieving the samples hidden in this warehouse on our behalf and submitting them to the Patent Office.”
Seiji said that and looked at Lennok with a nervous expression.
Lennok who was quietly looking down at the photo of the warehouse suddenly opened his mouth.
“Did you say sage?”
“…..yes.”
A moment of silence.
Lennok stared into his eyes and then chuckled.
“If you want to entrust a job to someone you have to speak clearly.”
creation
Seiji swallowed his saliva at the bloody tone.
“What do you mean by that….”
Instead of responding Lennok shook the outline of the request he was holding in his hand.
“Are you going to write down everything you want here and then act like a fool? “It won’t be a problem that ends with just collecting and submitting samples.”
Before doing anything you need to clearly point out the parts you are reluctant to do.
It was not that he doubted the authenticity of the information he gave Lennok but that did not mean Seiji had told him all the information.
Seiji’s eyes darted back and forth but in the end he couldn’t say anything.
He knows exactly what Lennok is talking about.
Jenny wedged herself next to him.
“Gang.”
“…….”
“You forgot to mention the gang. “If they find out that you have hired a freelancer this news will naturally reach the district council members’ ears. Is there any guarantee that the class will not clash with the gang at that time?”
Although the district councilor may not have a hand in this area the gang he is working with is different.
If they found out that the pharmaceutical company had entrusted Lennok with the role of collecting and submitting samples the gang would naturally get involved from there as well.
“I could really hide away without anyone knowing and just submit samples to the patent office. “Do you want that?”
Lennok asked but there was no answer.
No Seiji answered that question by remaining silent.
In the end what Amnak Pharmaceutical Company wants is not just an errand boy but a military agent who can deal with the district councilor’s gang.
There was a lot of talk but in the end in the process of retrieving the samples Lennok came into conflict with the gang and came here hoping to deal with them.
However the awkwardness of not saying that in front of his face was enough to irritate Lennok.
‘…It’s definitely different from Balitz.’
Considering that it was a dinosaur company that not only communicated the desired purpose accurately and set different commissions for each purpose but also paid additional allowances to account for unexpected variables Amnac Pharmaceutical Company’s current handling of the work is absurd.
Lennok also understands that due to the nature of venture companies there may be times when things are done in a haphazard manner but does it make sense to try to do things the moment they outsource the work?
Considering the complacent way of thinking that they would vaguely deal with the gangsters while retrieving the samples it might have been better to just hand over the samples to the district council member.
Seiji’s shoulders suddenly shrunk and he began to sweat profusely as if he was unaware of the atmosphere that had suddenly become dangerous.
Lennok resisted the urge to take the tobacco out of his arms and glanced at Jenny.
Even if I take out my anger on Seiji right here and now there is nothing I can get in return.
I thought it would be better to discuss with her first before deciding whether to accept this request or not.
Jenny who noticed Lennok’s gaze grinned knowingly.
“Hey customer.”
“Yes yes!”
Jenny nodded in response to Seiji’s nervous answer.
“Do you still want to leave the work to us?”
“That’s right….”
“Then I think we need to negotiate compensation. First of all no matter what their intentions were they were simply trying to get our wizard to run an errand for them but the risk we were thinking of was different. “You understand right?”
Seiji nodded.
Jenny then smiled with satisfaction and pointed at something.
It was Seiji’s cell phone lying on the table.
“Then let’s call your boss and ask him. “I don’t know how much money I can invest in this group and how much money I have to give them so that they can grow up to be willing to beat up the gangsters they come across while running errands.”
“……”
“We’ll be out for a bit so feel free to talk on the phone.”
As she said that she very naturally took Lennok with her and walked out of the office.
Jenny said as soon as the door closed.
“What do you want to do?”
“what?”
“It’s true that they tried a trick but actually in my opinion this is cute. “If you were really trying to deceive us you wouldn’t have included the stories about the district councilor and the gang in the request summary.”
“…….”
It’s not wrong.
The reason Lennok was able to notice that Seiji did not fully explain the entire purpose was because of the information written in the request outline they sent.
“Of course I also cross-check when I receive a request so I won’t fall for a lame lie but in this case rather than stabbing someone in the back…”
“Rather than hitting?”
“…I think they were trying to lower the ransom price.”
After saying that Jenny glanced at Lennok and quickly continued speaking.
“Of course this is just my opinion and it’s natural for you to feel bad. Because it’s annoying when someone tries to trick me. It’s your freedom not to accept requests. It doesn’t matter if I send that guy back right now. Is there no money or work in this place? “I’ll just accept another request starting tomorrow.”
Lennok chuckled as he watched Jenny pouring out words like water.
Even though she was slowly getting to know Lennok’s personality her always cautious approach was enough to win Lennok’s favor.
She even seemed to have some idea of the fact that Lennok contrary to his nature was very wary.
“What do you think the difficulty level of the request is? “Is there a possibility that the district council member will intervene directly?”
“It won’t be difficult. I looked into it separately. “This is certain.”
Jenny declared.
“The gang that District Councilor Mayer joined hands with is a violent organization of about 100 people and it is not a large gang even in the 50th district. Except for the leader who is known to be a unique mixed race the other guys are not that different from scavengers. “It won’t be difficult to deal with.”
Considering that it is called a gang it must be an organization with at least a few dozen members but I don’t feel any pressure from Jenny’s words.
Lennok already believes that he is not at a level where he can get caught up in simple numbers.
In fact Lennok was also thinking that it would be possible to deal with him without risk.
A battle with the Scavengers that we faced together with the Crimgal Mercenary Office.
Various magics including [Chain Lightning] used by Lennok had the potential to enable individuals to deal with groups alone.
Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing to turn that possibility into certainty once again in this request.
Lennok who had been carefully choosing his thoughts nodded.
“…..good. Instead I would like to receive a higher request fee than this.”
As long as you are not avoiding battles with gangs it would not be against business ethics to receive more hazard pay.
Jenny grinned at Lennok’s words.
“Leave it to me. Have you seen what I already said? “I’m going to rip off about 10 million cells so just wait a moment.”
As soon as she finished speaking the office door opened.
Seiji carefully held her cell phone with both hands as if she was attending her master.
He looks at the two people and nods silently.
Lennok shook his head silently as he watched her mouth tear open right next to him.
