    Chapter Index

She carefully took the puppy out of the cage and softly inquired, “What’s wrong? Why aren’t you eating or drinking?”

As soon as her words left her mouth, a deep and magnetic voice rang out behind her, “Probably due to pining for her old master.”

    The voice held complex feelings.

Su Wanqing turned her head sideways and met Qi Zhiyu’s deep and complex eyes, “Finished working?”

    She asked softly.

He responded with a brief “hmmm”, one hand in his pants pocket as he stepped forward, the other rubbing the puppy’s spine gently.

The puppy made a small whimpering sound that seemed to say something.

Qi Zhiyu frowned and asked worriedly, “Could he be sick?”

Su Wanqing leaned over to take a closer look and realized that the tip of the puppy’s nose was indeed a bit dry, and worry could not help but rise in her heart.

“There is a vet’s office on the property where he can be professionally examined.”

She nodded in agreement and volunteered, “I’ll take it.”

When Qi Zhi Iu saw that she wanted to leave alone, her eyes couldn’t help but dim for a few moments, as if something was passing quietly in her heart.

But Su Wanqing didn’t notice and was about to step forward.

“I know the way, I don’t need to bother you, if something comes up, you go ahead and get busy.”

She said thoughtfully, her words full of understanding and support for him.

However, Qi Zhiyu insisted, “Let’s go together.”

He walked briskly ahead of her, as if to show his determination by his actions, not giving her a chance to refuse.

The vet’s office is not far from the small townhouse where they live, within walking distance.

The room was neat and bright, and a handsome young, white-robed veterinarian was waiting for them.

“After examination, I think it’s a stress reaction caused by a change in environment.”

He explained professionally, while keenly capturing the message in Su Wanqing’s words, “I can tell that you two are not its original owners, right?”

Su Wanqing gently nodded her head, a faint sadness showing in her eyes, “We are indeed newly taken over, its original owner has already left the country.”

Hidden in those simple words was a deep concern for the puppy’s current condition and an unspoken nostalgia for his former owner.

The young man meticulously washed his hands until the soapy lather had completely disappeared before gently drying them with a soft towel, and then slowly pulled a bag of exquisitely wrapped dog snacks out of a wooden drawer, the colorful pouches glistening enticingly in the light.

As if sensing what was about to happen, the puppy waddled his little steps closer, his wet little nose twitching and sniffing the air, but when he was actually confronted with the snacks, he merely nudged them with his nose before turning his head away in disappointment, still insisting on not eating them.

“The puppy has a new environment and a new owner, and such a change can be quite a challenge for him. It will take a little time for it to get used to this whole new world. If possible, try to spend more time with it and build a close relationship with it, which will help reduce its anxiety and tension.”

Su Wanqing said as she tenderly stroked the puppy’s back, her eyes full of care.

“What about its physical condition? Could there be any underlying problems?”

Su Wanqing’s eyes revealed a trace of imperceptible worry, “Do you need us to arrange a comprehensive physical examination to make sure everything is fine?”
