    Chapter Index

“It’s quite resourceful and understands human language.”

Su Wanqing laughed lightly, her love for this puppy growing a few more points.

She gently stroked its soft fur, a hint of compassion growing in her heart, “When your master returns to her country in the future, if she comes looking for you, I’ll send you back to her.”

While talking, while holding it, rambling along the way, as if sharing his heart with the puppy, the gentleness and persistence in the sunshine seems to be particularly warm heart.

Qi Zhi Iu listened quietly from the sidelines, the corners of his lips unconsciously rising, sketching out an imperceptible sneer, “You really give up?”

The question seemed to touch on something deeper, making him unconsciously want to probe.

“No matter how much you can’t part with it, you have to return it to its rightful owner. After all, it belonged to another person, it’s just that the hopelessness of life kept them apart for a while. However, before reuniting, I have to make sure that her living environment is stable. I don’t want it to experience the pain of abandonment again.”

Su Wanqing’s words were firm and gentle, each word carrying respect and care for life.

“A dog’s lifetime is short, maybe ten years or so, and that’s if they’re very lucky. Frequent abandonment can leave them with unhealable wounds and may even cause them to lose trust in humans.”

Her words reveal a deep understanding and compassion for life that is unsettling.

Listening to this serious account of hers, the corners of Qi Zhi Iu’s mouth gently rose, but a trace of complexity flashed through his eyes, “You truly think so?”

His questions seem to go much deeper than they appear, not just about puppies, but as if he’s probing some deeper emotion and value.

    “Well, of course it’s true.”

Su Wanqing’s answer was simple and direct, but full of true feelings, completely unaware of the flash of gloom in Qi Zhiyu’s eyes.

Immediately afterward, Qi Zhi Iu’s voice was low and strong, as if testing and digging, “Then have you ever given up anything because of what life has forced you to do?”

The question seems to hit the heart and carries an unspeakable weight.

    Without hesitation she replied, “Yes!”

Su Wanqing’s gaze was slightly determined, and her thoughts seemed to be drifting into the distance.

Qi Zhiyu gazed down at her, the dark color in her eyes becoming deeper as she pursued, “What is it?”

She thought hard for a moment, a faint sadness in her tone, “Yi Ping Shan.”

The name seems to hold so many stories, and each word weighs a thousand pounds.

    “Mount Yihei?”

Qi Zhi Iu’s eyebrows raised slightly and his voice tightened involuntarily, as if the name had touched somewhere inside him.

“Because I love the customs there, it’s where I grew up and it’s full of memories.”

Su Wanqing’s eyes shone with a complicated light, as if she was reviewing the past that she could not part with.

“If it wasn’t for the pressure of life, and if my parents were still around, I might have chosen to make my home there, and even without the hustle and bustle of the city, just keeping to the landscape and living out my days in the ordinary way would have been a rare blessing.”

For her, happiness is so simple and pure, it has nothing to do with fame, fortune or status, but only about the peace of mind and fulfillment.

In that small town by the mountains and the water, every day you can smell the fragrance of nature, every night there is a starry sky as a companion, that is a quiet and beautiful away from the hustle and bustle of the world.

However, all of this could only be a distant dream in her mind.

Due to natural disasters and lack of funds for reconstruction, Mt. Yihei is now just a devastated place, a past that can never be returned to.

    “Woohoo ……”

The puppy that was held tightly in her arms seemed to sense the sadness within its owner and whimpered in a low voice, its round eyes staring warily at Qi Zhi Iu as if it was guarding that vulnerability for her.
