    Chapter Index

The housekeeper seemed to hesitate for a moment, his eyes flickering as if he was weighing his words, and finally spoke tentatively, “Young lady, are you …… planning to rest here?”

The voice was thin, as if the question hid an unknown secret behind it.

    “Of course!”

Su Wanqing’s tone was certain, but inwardly, she was even more confused by the butler’s perversity.

Why did the housekeeper ask this question when it was a well-known fact that she had a separate and well-decorated bedroom in the historical mansion of the Kee family?

After hearing this, the butler wanted to speak, as if he still had something to say, but in the end, he just slightly owed his body and retreated, leaving the room silent.

“Good, then I won’t disturb the Young Lady’s rest.”

His back disappeared out the door, leaving a trail of meaningful footsteps in its wake.

Su Wanqing did not take this episode to heart, and only treated it as a small ripple in her daily life.

She closed the door and prepared to begin her evening rituals – shower and rest.

Inside the room, all the furniture and furnishings were the same as usual, and the familiar atmosphere gave her a sense of reassurance.

However, as she stepped into the bedroom, her brows couldn’t help but furrow gently.

The bedding and pillows on the bed were nowhere to be seen, leaving only the bare mattress, which seemed unusually empty.

For her, this unexpected situation was not panic-inducing, but it was quite unexpected.

Without giving it much thought, Su Wanqing turned toward the storage room, pulled open the door of the ancient oak cabinet, took out the spare bedding and sheets from it, and began to change them with her own hands.

Her movements were skillful and graceful, and in no time at all, the beds were brand new.

Finished organizing, she was about to go to the locker room to get a change of clothes, unexpectedly, pushed open the door to the locker room, the scene in front of her once again made her stunned – the original full closet was empty at the moment, not a single piece of clothing left!

“Where did all the clothes go?”

Su Wanqing murmured, and was about to go out to ask the housekeeper, but stopped in mid-stride, a bold guess welling up in her heart, “Could it be that this is all Grandpa Qi’s intention?”

The memory pulls back to the afternoon, the family gathering, where the kindly Grandpa Qi and the equally respected Gu Lao are still smiling and urging them to conceive an offspring soon.

Associated with the bedroom being cleaned out at the moment, she couldn’t help but have a vague conjecture emerge in her mind ……

The thought flickered, and she whirled away to find the butler, folding her arms and heading back inside the locker room.

In the corner, a lone suitcase lay quietly, left behind after her last business trip.

She quickly opened it and removed the spare clothes inside for a temporary emergency.

Soon, the sound of fine running water came from the bathroom, accompanied by a light bubbly scent that added a bit of life to the quiet evening.

However, the moment she finished showering and stepped out of the bathroom, an unusual and strong smell of smoke greeted her, causing her brow to tighten once again.

Her bedroom was just a wall away from her husband, Qi Zhiyu’s.

Usually, if he smoked on the balcony, there was indeed light smoke that occasionally drifted into her room with the wind, but it was always light, with a touch of detached elegance.

The smell of smoke, however, was so strong at the moment that it could almost be materialized.

Haphazardly wrapping the towel she’d been using to wipe her hair around her head, she walked briskly toward the balcony, wanting to explore the source of the smoke smell.

Under the moonlight, a man had his back to her, his upright figure silhouetted against the night.

    “Kizhi Iu?”

She called out softly, slightly surprised in her mind.

The cigarette in his hand hadn’t had time to burn out yet, and as he took a deep drag followed by a swipe on the metal railing of the balcony, the spark went out and the butt was casually tossed into the trash.

He turned slowly, his gaze deep and locked on her.

“Come in through the door that Masako walked through.”

His voice was calm, as if everything was taken for granted.
