    Chapter Index

The voice was so soft as to be almost imperceptible, but full of deep meaning.

“If you have private money, you can try.”

Su Wanqing responded lightly, but remembered something in her heart, “But I remember that grandpa seems to have restricted Chairman Qi’s use of funds.”

These words were like a stone thrown into a calm water surface, causing a subtle reaction from Qi Wenfeng, as if verifying some kind of family inner circle that was not known to outsiders.

“Gulp-” at an inopportune moment, Su Wanqing’s stomach rumbled, drawing an awkward silence.

Seeing this, Elder Qi promptly relieved himself and ordered the butler to prepare dinner, which made the atmosphere lively again.

After dinner, everyone stayed at the old mansion for the night. Qi Zhiyu was summoned by her father to the study to discuss matters, leaving her alone.

The whole day’s chess game had long since exhausted her physically and mentally, and she couldn’t muster the slightest interest in the idle chatter of Jin Qin, Qi Jiajia, and Qi Jiayi in the living room.

“I’m going to go up and rest, so you guys take your time.”

She said goodbye politely, with a touch of exhaustion in her voice.

    “OK.”

Jin Qin responded in a pleasant manner, her tone carrying the calmness of being the mistress of the house, “It’s been a busy time with YG’s anniversary, it’s been hard on you.”

    “It should.”

Su Wanqing responded briefly, getting up and heading towards the stairs.

And behind her, Qi Jiajia’s disgruntled voice rang out with a hint of acerbity and contempt, her words like a thorn, unerringly piercing Su Wanqing’s heart, reminding her of her true position in this family.

“Mom, what are you being polite to her for! You’re Mrs. Qi’s wife, Su Wanqing and Second Brother are merely married by agreement, and Second Brother doesn’t like her at all! She’s here only to give face to grandpa, in the end, she’s just a part-timer!”

    “Speak up!”

Jin Qin immediately scolded her daughter, her words exuding an inviolable majesty, “She is the granddaughter-in-law personally chosen by the old master, you should call her second sister-in-law.”

The conversation between mother and daughter was not high in volume, but clear to the ears, and every word was like a reminder of Su Wanqing’s identity and position.

She suffered in silence, the bitterness in her heart tumbling over her, but her face remained calm.

As he stepped into the upstairs bedroom, his hand lightly touched the doorknob, but a strange feeling was inexplicably born in his heart.

However, the doorway did not move, and seemed to be tightly blocked by some force.

Coinciding with a maid passing by, she hastened to ask for help, “Just a moment, why won’t the door to my room open?”

The maid stepped forward to try and replied in a whirlwind, “Young Lady wait a moment, I’ll go ask the butler.”

Not long after, the butler hurriedly arrived and asked for details, “Young Lady, is there anything I can help you with?”

    “The door won’t open.”

She tried as she spoke, and the door remained solid as a rock.

“The room is locked and requires a key.”

The butler explained patiently, then ordered someone to fetch the key.

While waiting, the butler inquired with concern, “Young Lady, have you forgotten any items in your room?”

Su Wanqing froze and replied before thinking deeply, “I’m just tired and want to rest early.”

    “Ka-ching-“

With the soft thud of a key in the lock hole, the door slowly opened, and a serenity that belonged to the night greeted him, accompanied by a hint of the unknown and anticipation.

Just after the words fell, the dull air seemed to freeze at this moment, and immediately afterward, the ancient wooden door that carried the traces of the years, opened in response to the sound, emitting a slight creaking sound, as if it was telling an ancient story.

Su Wanqing gently stepped over the threshold, and the butler followed closely behind, respectfully stepping into the room.

Just as she turned back, she inadvertently caught a subtle look that swept across the housekeeper’s face, and a hint of doubt rose in her mind, “Is there a problem?”

Her tone was gentle and her eyes were searching.
