A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 98
by Hectopascal(헥토파스칼 )
Episode 98
The hunting dog bitten by Gurav soon died.
Zeke wondered why the Imperial hounds were wandering around here.
‘We may be chasing Karus but there may also be ancient ruins here.’
The mad emperor of the Roman Empire was searching through all the ancient ruins on the entire continent.
I don’t know if Consul Julius had the authority to use hounds but if hounds were really chasing Zeke and his party it would be even more difficult to cross the border.
Soon Boris and Simon woke up and were shocked to see the body of the hunting dog.
“Simon are there any ancient ruins nearby?”
Simon nodded at those words.
“Yes. There are quite a few hidden dungeons near the border area.”
Simon’s answer gave Zeke a little relief.
But I couldn’t let my guard down.
The hunting dogs are also knights of the empire.
It was impossible to know when they would be mobilized and spread their nets.
‘I’d better get out of here as quickly as possible.’
Zeke woke up Karus and headed straight for the tunnel.
The tunnel across the border that Simon mentioned was a route used by smugglers in the past.
When the Ishtar side did not issue an order to expel the guests the cartel sent all the Soma to this side.
Back then it was outlaws not syndicates who guided the route.
Simon’s knowledge of this tunnel came from his past experience as an outlaw when he helped transport drugs for the cartel here.
“We’re almost there.”
Across the wasteland a small village made of earthen walls was visible.
Zeke entered the village keeping a wary eye on his surroundings.
Simon went into the village saying he would meet the broker for a moment.
Zeke and his party entered the restaurant that Simon had guided them to first.
Karus sitting at the table opened his mouth with a slumped posture.

“Ugh. Anything is fine but I’d like to eat something warm instead of something dry.”
My mouth was parched from eating only dry food while crossing the wasteland.
Soon the food ordered according to Karus’ wishes arrived.
Although the spices were strong the food was edible.
Karus threw away his dignity as a member of the royal family and ate the food greedily.
‘It’s a hundred times better than those nobles who make a fuss because it doesn’t suit their taste.’
Zeke was glad that Karus was a friendly royal family member.
As he was taking a short break after finishing his meal Zeke felt an unusual atmosphere brewing around him.
‘It’s not good.’
As he expected a group of men came into the restaurant.
Judging from the shape of the sword he had he seemed to be from the Central Continent.
‘They’re hunting dogs.’
It seemed that the hunting dogs that had been searching the surrounding ruins had entered the village to find a meal.
Zeke motioned for Boris and Karus to turn away and cover their faces.
It was when I was about to quietly get up from my seat.
“Hey you.”
Suddenly someone called out to Zeke.
He glanced behind him and saw that it was not the hounds who had just come in but one of the outlaws sitting in the restaurant approaching Zeke.
“I’ve never seen your face before. Where did you come from?”
Zeke covered his face and spoke to the outlaw in Southern dialect.
“It’s the syndicate. Where do you belong?”
The outlaw flinched for a moment at the word syndicate.
Then he smiled faintly and approached Zeke again.
“These days no matter what you say you start calling it a syndicate. You little brat. Do you think I’d be scared if you said that?”
At first glance he was just a thug harassing travelers entering the town.
Zeke was concerned about the hound sitting at the inner table.
“I don’t want to make a fuss. What do you want?”
At those words the outlaw spoke with a confident expression.
“Take out everything you have. Let’s see how much you give away and see what the old man will do.”
Zeke nodded as if he had no choice.
“Okay most of what we have is on horseback. Let’s go that way.”
The outlaw followed Zeke towards the stables laughing happily.
Zeke threw one of the bags hanging from his horse to the outlaw.
“Wow. It’s quite heavy. Let’s see what’s inside…”
Before he could even say the last word ‘Kka’ Zeke struck him in the back of the neck knocking him unconscious.
He led his horse towards where Karus and Boris were already standing.
But then the hunting dogs that had been quietly eating their food suddenly woke up and started coming towards Zeke.

“Hey. Let me see for a sec.”
Zeke hesitated for a moment at the hound’s words then approached him with his face covered.
“What’s going on?”
“I heard you were from the syndicate earlier. What are those smugglers doing here?”
Fortunately it seems he wasn’t caught.
Zeke began to speak slowly.
“The road to the Central Continent was suddenly blocked so I came here to take a detour through the desert.”
At Zeke’s words one of the hounds looked at him with a suspicious look and then approached Karus who had a different vibe among the three.
“Take off your robe.”
The hound reached out to strip Carus of his robe.
That was when.
Phew!
Zeke pulled out his dagger and threw it at the hound’s hand.
Then he immediately pulled out his sword and cut off the head of the hunting dog in front of him.
Crunch!
When their comrade died in an instant the hunting dogs were momentarily confused.
“Here catch it!”
Boris who was standing next to him drew his sword and stabbed the screaming hound in the back.
Zeke threw his dagger at the hunting dog that was trying to run away.
Three hunting dogs were found dead in a restaurant.
Boris approached Zeke.
“It’s only a matter of time before the boss is discovered.”
“Let’s drop the horse and go to Simon. We have to get through the tunnel quickly.”
Zeke picked up Karus and ran to where Simon was.
But then other outlaws started chasing Zeke’s group.
“A hundred thousand gold is running away!”
It seemed like bounty hunters had arrived here.
Zeke used his flash grenade skill on the pursuing outlaws.
Flash!
“Kwaaah!”
Lawbreakers exposed to flash grenades rolled around the market floor.
I was about to cross the market to the tavern Simon had mentioned.
“boss!”
Simon ran towards Zeke.
“What happened?”
“The bounty hunters are already here. The hounds have caught wind of it. Can we enter the tunnel right now?”
“There is no guide but it is possible to enter.”
“I can find the way so let’s go quickly.”
Zeke followed Simon towards the tunnel.
Since the village was created when the tunnel was first built the tunnel entrance was closer than expected.
The entrance was inside an old well.
A sentry stood guard in front of it.
When Simon showed the ticket he had received from the broker the guard nodded and told him to go into the well.
Simon and his men went into the well one by one.
Whoosh!
When I came down I saw a narrow tunnel under the well.
It was so shabby that it was surprising that only a few years ago drugs from the South were transported to the Central Continent through this tunnel.
Zeke turned on the map and scanned the path of the tunnel.
“I’ll take the lead. Simon protect Karus from the back.”
Thanks to the map Zeke was able to find his way through the intricately intertwined tunnels without getting confused.
Soon the narrow path ended and a fairly wide passage appeared.
Simon said to Zeke.
“Boss if you go this way you can pass the border area.”
Zeke and his party walked along the long tunnel.
I couldn’t believe how people could build such a long tunnel.
At some point after walking for a while like that.
There was a loud noise from behind.
“Over there!”
It seems that there was more than one tunnel entrance.
Lawbreakers with drawn weapons were chasing Zeke and his men.
Simon who had been examining them said to Zeke.
“The author standing before me is a famous outlaw known as the Hwangpungsashin.”
“Protect Simon Carus. Boris follow me!”
Zig immediately took out his sword and struck forward.
Whee!
They had to fight the outlaws with only their swordsmanship as using too much skill would have caused the tunnel to collapse.
Zig swung his sword with golden power.
Phew!
The Hwangpungsashin that collided with Zig’s sword flew away and was stuck in the wall.
Boris also swung his sword against the outlaws taking on several at once.
Zeke shouted at Boris.
“Boris! Cover your ears and stand back.”
At Zeke’s words Boris rolled backwards.
At the same time Zeke used the skill Dissonance.
Jieeeeeeeeing!
A strange noise echoed around Zeke causing the outlaws to back away in distress.
The outlaws were unable to maintain proper balance due to dissonance.
“Is it magic?”
It was a skill that Zeke had used but to them it seemed closer to magic.
Zeke’s sword swept past the confused outlaws.
“Cough!”
Even the famous Hwangpungsashin was a lowly figure who couldn’t even match up to Zigg so they were all just small-timers.
Zeke personally decapitated the Yellow Wind Enemy and Boris cleaned up all the remaining outlaws.
Zeke said looking down.
“Boris let’s go quickly.”
Zeke and his party quickly moved back into the tunnel.
But the outlaws continued to attack Zeke and his men.
Choaack!
Zeke’s sword cut through the outlaws clearing a path for them.
The tunnel floor was soaked with the blood of the outlaws.
Boris who continued to swing his sword looked quite tired but Zeke was able to continue to kill his opponents thanks to his infinite stamina.
‘If I didn’t have infinite stamina I would have been in big trouble.’
Zeke distributed health potions to his companions and continued towards the tunnel exit.
And then we finally reached the exit of the tunnel.
Zeke felt something ominous.
‘This is… a magical aura.’
As expected magic flew in from outside the exit.
Support support support!
Kwakwakwakwang!
Lightning and fireballs rained down on Zeke and his party.
“Bow down!”
Zeke activated the dragon’s armor while wrapping it around Karus.
When the explosion was over he got up and spoke to Simon.
“Protect Karus. I’ll go out and deal with the wizard.”
Zeke donned his meteor armor and ran out of the tunnel.
“Come out! Attack!”
As soon as Zeke stepped out the wizards began to attack him.
Since there are all sorts of outlaws battle magicians are often seen as well.
Just like before fireballs and lightning energy balls poured down.
But the shield worked and blocked the spells on its own.
Woohoo!
As soon as the shield’s effect ended Zeke raised his sword and ran towards the wizards.
Then he stretched out his hand and used the magic reflection skill.
Since the magic field was distorted the magicians could not help but panic as they could not operate their magic smoothly.
“Why is this like this?”
Zeke immediately swung his sword and killed the magicians.
After quickly finishing cleaning up and looking around I saw the outlaws waiting behind the wizards looking confused.
“Those kids! They said they were wizards from Delphos but it was all a joke!”
The battle wizards who died to Zeke seemed to be deserters from the Delphos Magic Corps.
He swept away all the outlaws who were waiting with their swords drawn.
“Phew.”
Even though he had infinite stamina Zeke had his limits.
He too began to feel tired gradually. He couldn’t even eat properly because he was moving quickly so he couldn’t solve his mental fatigue.
‘It would be more dangerous if I suddenly lose consciousness like this.’
Zeke signaled for his men to come out.
Boris brought the horse that the outlaws had.
Simon said to Zeke.
“If you ride the Boss Horse for about two days there is a village you can stop by before leaving the Ishtar area and entering the Forest of the Forgotten.”
“It would be better to get there do some repairs and then enter the Duchy of Troy along the edge of the forest.”
“That seems better than going into the desert.”
“Okay. Let’s change the route.”
Although it was a more roundabout route going into the desert their home base was tantamount to attempting suicide when they were targeting Carus all the way to Salmak.
It was the moment when Zeke and his party were about to ride their horses out of the border area.
They felt something pursuing them fiercely.
Zeke sharpened his gaze and scanned his pursuers.
I immediately started swearing.
“Damn the imperial hounds are on us.”
It seemed like the three people who were killed in the restaurant were behind him.
Zeke and his party rode even faster.
But the horses taken from the outlaws could not defeat the imperial steeds.
Soon the hunting dogs caught up with Zeke and his party.
Phew!
One of the hounds fired a crossbow.
Zig standing at the very back swung his sword and struck down the arrow.
He shouted at Simon.
“Keep running! Once you get close to Ishtar’s territory even the hounds won’t be able to keep up!”
Zeke followed a little behind his companions and threw his dagger at the pursuing hounds.
Pitching!
The hunting dogs’ speed was gradually reduced by the restraint of the dagger imbued with gold power.
But then another cloud of dust rose up nearby.
Another group of outlaws was coming from behind.
