    Episode 62

    “speed?”

Zeke thought back to the mercenaries who had rushed at the knights with their eyes rolled back.

“Weren’t they just simple soma addicts?”

“It is true that it is made with soma ingredients.”

    “Why were stimulants created?”

“To create warriors who do not know pain or fear.”

After hearing the Black Yaksha’s words Zeke realized that this was also a type of human experiment being conducted by the Empire.

‘You must have observed the fighting patterns of mercenaries who were hit with stimulants while fighting a war of attrition with Delphos for several years and experimented with the drug.’

At the same time Zeke remembered that the Black Yacha had been holding out in the fortress for three years and that during that time they had continued to increase the size of their organization by absorbing bandits and mercenaries.

I wondered how such things were possible while stuck in a corner of Delphos but it was possible because there was backup from the Empire.

‘What are those imperial bastards doing all over the continent?’

Zig said to the Black Yakcha.

“You know that if things continue like this you will be killed by the Empire first.”

The Black Yakcha clenched his teeth and then spoke.

“…I answered obediently so have mercy and kill me now.”

    Then Zeke shook his head.

“What would you do if there was a way to live?”

    The Black Yaksha’s eyebrows twitched.

“There is no escape from the Imperial Intelligence Service.”

    Zeke told him.

“What if we could stop it with Draker’s power?”

The Black Yaksha’s expression changed at the word Draker.

The only place on the continent that is ahead of the Imperial Intelligence Agency.

    “…Drake. What does that mean?”

Zig took off the gloves he was wearing and used his magic reflection skill.

Then the magic light he had turned on began to blink.

The Black Yaksha looked at Zig with a stern expression and said.

“Were you a pureblood Awakener of Draker?”

“Yes. I received the official knighthood of the family.”

The Black Yaksha’s head was spinning quickly.

No one no matter how much of a spy they are wants to die.

They have been doing all the dirty work and have lost a lot of their patriotism.

If it was discovered that he had leaked information without dying like this it was obvious that the Imperial Intelligence Service would kill him in the most painful way possible.

In that case it might have been a better choice to become a key witness under Draker’s protection.

The Black Yaksha said to Zeke.

“Can you guarantee that I will completely change my identity?”

    “There is a better option.”

Zig said as he looked at the Black Yakcha.

“I’ll introduce you to a new job too. There must be a lot of places that can use someone from the 13th Office of the Information Agency.”

The Black Yacha felt an inexplicable eerieness at Zeke’s smile.

    * * *

Zig who had hidden the Black Yakcha in the cave and was moving back towards the fortress felt something strange.

    ‘Didn’t they capture the fortress?’

If there were only bandits and mercenaries in the fortress without the Black Yaksha Andrei’s group could have easily subdued it.

But tension still lingered in the fort’s front.

Zig left the fortress and returned to the camp where the knights were.

But as soon as he arrived at the unit the wizards aimed their wands at Zeke.

Zeke said glaring at the magicians.

    “What is this?”

Then the leader of the magic group walked out.

    He shouted at Zeke.

“Zeke Draker! Because of you the Black Yaksha escaped. You will be sent to the barracks to be punished for it!”

The Black Yakcha ran away because of Zeke. That was ridiculous.

Zeke said looking at the captain.

“Why did the Black Yaksha escape because of me?”

The captain shouted with a frown.

“Didn’t the Black Yaksha that I captured escape from the fortress because of your foolish attack! You’re such an idiot!”

Zeke tilted his head and asked the captain.

“Have you confirmed that there are no Black Yachas in the fortress? I looked up and the fortress side is still well defended.”

At those words the captain hesitated and then opened his mouth.

“Shut up! I just checked with the others. They said there was someone who quickly escaped from the fortress.”

“It could be that they escaped to call for reinforcements. What evidence do you have to specifically state that they are the Black Yaksha?”

The captain’s face turned bright red at Zeke’s logical rebuttal.

Seeing the captain’s reaction Zeke was convinced.

‘That bastard told that black yaksha to run away.’

He’s the guy who’s been fighting a war of attrition here for three years looking out only for his own interests.

He may not have known that his actions were aiding the Empire’s experiments but that didn’t change the fact that he was still a piece of trash.

The captain also aimed his staff at Zeke and spoke.

“Just follow me without saying a word. I will confess all your sins to my superiors. Don’t expect to get away easily just because you’re from Valhalla.”

For now Zeke decided to simply follow the captain’s words.

As we headed towards the barracks led by the wizards we saw the members of the 8th Knights including Jorge kneeling on the floor with their hands tied.

    Zeke looked at Jorge.

    “Why did they arrest you?”

The captain shouted with an annoyed expression.

“Shut up! Say one more word and I’ll cast a spell that will make your mouth stick together!”

There was no way something like that could exist among battle magic.

Zeke clicked his tongue at the captain’s hysterical reaction.

Then Jorge stood up and shouted.

“Sir! We do not regret helping you! We also want to be remembered as honorable knights!”

At those words the other knights also stood up and agreed with Jorge.

Then the captain ground his teeth and gestured to the magicians.

    Phage crackle!

Soon the wizards nearby poured lightning magic into the chains that bound the knights.

    “Ugh!”

The knights who were shocked twisted their whole bodies in pain.

Seeing that sight Zeke spoke to the captain.

“Isn’t it a bit much to treat your own soldiers like that? You wouldn’t treat prisoners like that either.”

At those words the captain could no longer bear it and approached Zeke.

“Just one more word… Just one more word and I will execute you on the spot!”

    That was when.

    bang!

One of the barracks completely collapsed and Andrei emerged from it holding a sword.

Behind them stood Aster and Diego who immediately drew their weapons and aimed them at the wizards as soon as they appeared.

Andrei approached the captain who was threatening Zeke.

“Ingrid Haxen Commander of the 8th Delfoa Magic Division. What I am doing now can be interpreted as a death threat to Zeke Draker an official knight of Draker. In this case I hereby inform you that Draker will switch to a wartime response posture against Delfoa from this moment on and Draker knight Andrei Draker will respond immediately.”

The captain’s face turned pale at Andrei’s reaction.

It was Drake’s warning of all places.

It was a warning to change the wartime response posture not only for himself but also for the entire Delphos.

    He stepped back sweating profusely.

“Hey listen up! A sudden change in wartime response posture! Isn’t this an overreaction?”

Andrei said glaring at the captain with cold eyes.

“Listen carefully Ingrid Haxen. The name Drake is not a light one.”

    The captain swallowed hard.

In fact he had never really felt the weight of the name Draker.

So whenever the commanders of other divisions shuddered when the name Draker was mentioned I laughed inside.

But when I actually felt the knight’s life force with my whole body my stomach lurched.

“Wait a minute. I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding.”

The captain took a step back and calmed Andrei down.

    He continued quickly.

“Well I made a slip of the tongue just now. I was on edge from the constant fighting. I just meant to lead you to the barracks for a proper investigation.”

    Andrei glanced back at Zik.

Zeke nodded as if it was okay.

Andrey took his life and took the sword.

“It seems there was a misunderstanding between the two sides.”

The captain sighed in relief as Andrei stepped back obediently.

Then as if preparing to fight back he gestured to the wizards who were taking a step forward to retreat.

    Zeke spoke to the captain.

“Can I talk to my colleagues for a moment?”

The captain answered through clenched teeth.

“…I’ll give you about 20 minutes.”

    Zeke nodded.

Then together with Andrei and the others he entered the barracks guided by the magicians.

As soon as he entered the barracks he took off his gloves and used his magic reflection skill.

    Kiiing!

The magical devices installed around the barracks all broke down and made a noise.

    Zik said to Andrey.

    “I caught the Black Yacha.”

Andrei was surprised by those words and asked back.

“Are you saying that you caught the Black Yakcha by yourself?”

“Yes. I used poison to lure them into letting their guard down then caught them by surprise.”

    Andrey opened his mouth wide.

Although he was an outlaw the Black Yaksha had been wandering the continent for a long time committing serious evil deeds to the point where he was considered a public enemy on the continent.

I couldn’t help but be surprised that Zig single-handedly defeated an opponent that even experienced knights would have difficulty dealing with.

Zeke told Ingrid about his secret relationship with the Black Yaksha keeping his identity a secret.

Andrei’s eyes widened as he heard his words.

If there was corruption among the upper echelons of Delphos things could get quite complicated.

“What do you plan to do?”

Zeke stood up from his seat.

“It would be best to leave Delphos’ affairs to Delphos itself.”

He conveyed the necessary information to Andrei and left the barracks.

Then he was put on a carriage and taken down to the barracks.

Upon arriving at the barracks the wizards took Zeke away from the regular detention cell and placed him in one of the officers’ quarters leaving a guard stationed at the door.

Surprisingly there were knights more skilled than Jorge and the other knights guarding the other magicians in the barracks.

‘If we have that kind of force we should deploy it to attack the fortress.’

Zeke was lying in his quarters with a bored expression.

How long had I been lying there like that? Someone knocked on the door and came into the room.

    “Gun Zeke.”

Professor Payne came to Zeke with a stern expression.

    ‘You came after all.’

Zeke wasn’t surprised because he had Professor Payne in mind when the situation developed like this.

    He came closer to Zeke.

“Zeke! What the hell is going on?”

“Is this the result of not listening to the professor’s warning?”

    “oh my god.”

In fact Payne already knew about Captain Ingrid’s corruption.

Not only that but all the high-ranking magician officers knew about the situation step by step.

Delphos wizards must have military experience to rise to high rank.

Zeke thought that he had failed at tightrope walking but in fact Payne had felt the limitations of a general research position and volunteered for the military.

Moreover the fact that he came to this unit was because the director of the Royal Institute who led Payne had thought of him and placed him separately.

As it turned out this unit was famous for being a place where you could fill your military career without much trouble.

Even though they were the frontline unit facing the Black Yacha known as the enemy of the continent the magic group suffered almost no damage so it was the perfect condition for them to build up their career and then leave.

Because they knew about those facts they pretended not to know about Director Ingrid’s corruption.

Payne gave Zeke a separate warning for this reason.

    Zeke said to Payne.

“Professor I have a favor to ask you.”

    “What are you talking about?”

He whispered to Paynen what he had discovered about the Black Yaksha.

    “Oh my god…!”

Payne was astonished at the Imperial Awakening Experiment.

If this was true then we could no longer leave this place as it was.

Zeke spoke to Payne in a low voice.

“It is right to expose this corruption but it will surely raise grumbling among the Delphos magicians.”

    Payne also agreed with Zeke.

Exposing the corruption of another wizard was a taboo in the Delphos wizard society.

No matter how righteous it may be it may be almost impossible to achieve the status of a high-ranking wizard.

    Zeke said to Payne.

“I will leave the choice up to you professor.”

Payne was deeply troubled by Zeke’s words.

He slowly raised his head and looked at Zeke.

“I’m really sorry Mr. Zeke but… I can’t do that.”

“Is it because of your power as a wizard?”

    Payne shook his head.

“It could be because of power. In order to conduct the research I want to do I need to obtain the title of Wizard a high-ranking magician.”

After finishing speaking Payne slowly got up from his seat.

    “I’m so sorry Mr. Zeke.”

Payne ran out of the room.
