A Dragonslayer’s Peerless Regression – 60

Episode 60
“What does it mean that failure is inevitable?”
Payne looked embarrassed.
“It’s difficult to go into detail. If you have to go on a mission stay on standby in the rear.”
Payne gave an unknown warning and quickly disappeared.
‘It’s a subjugation mission that is certain to fail.’
A suspicious smell wafted in the air.
Zeke returned to the barracks and thought deeply about Payne’s warning.
In my experience there are usually two cases like this.
‘There is corruption in the upper ranks of the punitive force or there is a deal with the target of the punitive force.’
In the former case it is caused by corruption resulting from vested interests in the upper echelons such as military supply bribery.
This is calculated as the amount of damage incurred by the budget that was embezzled in advance after the deliberate failure of the subjugation. There may also be other ways to embezzle military funds.
The second case is the collusion between the punitive force and the target of the punitive force.
If the punitive force stays in the area for a long time and maintains power they will have to return to the center when the target of the punitive force disappears so they intentionally leak information and extend the period of stationing.
‘I remember that Delphos was a place where there was a lot of abuse of power by magicians but it wasn’t a place where there was any military corruption.’
If so the second case was more likely.
Zeke decided to wait and see what happened.
* * *
The next day Zeke and his party moved to the area where the Black Yaksha was located with the Delphos expedition force.
The place where the Black Yaksha group was hiding was a mountain that branched off from the Giant Mountains. The surrounding terrain was rugged and monsters appeared everywhere so it was a place with few people.
After the Black Yaksha built a fortress here he committed various criminal acts.
Moreover during the three years they stayed here they absorbed other mercenary groups and bandits and grew in size.
Upon arriving at the scene the magician leader gave instructions to the knights.
“Groups 1 to 3 go up along the side of the mountain. Groups 4 to 6 go straight ahead.”
The idea was to leave the danger zones to the knights and soldiers while the magicians would slowly advance from the rear and attack from a distance.
Tactics for wizards from start to finish.

Yet the knights of Delphi did not say a word.
Then Zick who had been listening quietly raised his hand.
The wizard commander’s eyebrows twitched.
“What is it?”
Zeke spoke to the captain.
“What should we do?”
The captain didn’t like the way Zeke spoke which strangely got on his nerves.
He shouted in an irritated tone.
“Didn’t you hear me tell you to stay put in the rear yesterday?”
Then Zeke spoke to the captain.
“I am the Blue Knight and Diego and Aster behind me are the Purple Knights. Since we are here on a mission to cooperate I asked if there was anything I could do to help.”
The head wizard was startled for a moment when he heard that the young-looking Zeke was the Blue Knight.
The wizards and knights next to him were also in an uproar.
When the mood became tense the captain decided to take a step back.
“…Jorge. Assign them a scouting mission.”
Then he turned around and went back into the carriage.
Jorge the commander of the knights approached Zeke and spoke anxiously.
“Are you okay with the scout mission?”
Zeke nodded.
Jorge pointed out the opposite path from where they were going.
Although the terrain was rough this was a route that allowed us to climb up the mountain more quickly.
Then Andrei came up to Zik and whispered to him.
“Why all of a sudden? Zeke you wouldn’t have just provoked the captain.”
Zik answered Andrey.
“There’s something fishy about this mission.”
“What do you mean?”
“There is a suspicion of collusion between the punitive force and the Black Yacha.”
Andrei was startled by Zik’s words but soon regained his composure and nodded.
He spoke to Zeke and his group.
“From now on we will carry out a scouting mission to the Black Yacha’s camp. We will advance in a single formation with Zeke in the lead and I standing in the rear. Zeke will command the unit.”
As soon as Andrei finished speaking Zeke and Diego Astor formed a formation and headed into the mountains along the route.
The Knights of Delphos could only stare with their mouths wide open at the sight of their coordinated actions as they disappeared.
Zig who was in the lead pulled up the map and ran along the mountain path recording the route that Jorge had shown him.
After running along the mountain path for a while something appeared ahead.
Zig gave the signal to stop behind them.
‘It’s a troll.’
A group of monster trolls were preying on wild beasts.

I was trying to avoid the troll when I saw a suspicious figure behind me.
Zeke paused and then looked at her intently.
It seemed like a patrol of the Black Yaksha.
Zig threw his dagger straight towards Inyoung.
Shhh!
Three daggers that flew quickly with the power of the wind struck the legs of the Black Yaksha patrol precisely.
“Kwaaak!”
The trolls that were preying on wild animals responded to the patrol’s screams.
“Wooooooo!”
The trolls smelled blood and ran towards the patrol.
“Kuaaaah!”
At that moment Zeke and his group who had been hiding in the bushes jumped out.
Choaack!
Zeke decapitated the lead troll while Diego and Aster attacked the other trolls.
At the same time Andrei cut down a troll that was rushing at them.
thud!
Having killed all the trolls in an instant Zeke and his party quickly erased their traces.
He then took the patrolman who had been hit by a dagger and collapsed to a nearby cave.
Zeke took up his dagger and began interrogating the Black Yaksha’s patrol.
“Is the Black Yaksha in the fortress now?”
“You fucking idiots! Go eat some shit!”
Most of them were mercenaries and bandits so their speech was rough.
But Zeke was a man who had a knack for taking care of these guys.
Zeke deliberately separated the three of them and began to lightly touch them starting with their fingers.
It wasn’t long before they started screaming and blowing loudly.
After interrogating all three the information was combined to filter out the false information.
Andrei opened his mouth wide at the sight of Zig’s interrogation techniques.
“If you look from the dark stage you’ll want to scout right away.”
“I don’t really want to go there so please don’t spread rumors.”
For Zik who had suffered because of Drake’s Dark Stage in his past life it was a place he did not want to get close to.
After finding out everything there was to find out the patrol was dealt with cleanly and the party headed back up towards the fortress.
As we approached the fort there were quite a few patrolmen.
Also the fortress was built on rough terrain with solid natural stones so it did not seem like it would be easily breached.
‘I don’t think this can be solved with just a knight’s body and a long-range attack.’
It seemed like the answer would be to either bring in a siege force or infiltrate with an intelligence unit.
If it was Zeke he could have infiltrated and taken the Black Yaksha’s head without a trace but since he was on an official mission he had to be careful.
Zeke’s party did not proceed any further and went down to the point where they decided to join the Delphos Knights.
But no matter how long I waited the Knights of Delphos were nowhere to be seen.
After waiting for a long time the knights finally arrived at the meeting point.
“Huh huh you’re here already?”
Jorge looked visibly exhausted even before the battle began.
If the captain was like this then the other knights were needless to say.
Zeke asked Jorge.
“Where is the Magic Division?”
Then Jorge said wiping the sweat off his face.
“Once we clear the area around the fort we’ll begin providing supporting fire from the rear.”
Zig was surprised by those words and asked.
“What do you mean we’re going to clear the fortress with this number of people? Are you saying we’re all going to die?”
“That that…..”
It was a difficult situation for Jorge who had no authority to command.
Andrey said to Zeke.
“The situation is a bit unfavorable. The fortress is much stronger than I thought.”
Zeke also nodded.
“I guess we’ll have to wait until the wizards arrive. We’ll need new tactics.”
Then Diego pointed behind him.
“Something is flying!”
Zeke was the first to react to Diego’s words.
He raised his gaze to see what was flying in the sky.
Zeke cried out in surprise.
“Everyone disperse!”
He wrapped his arms around Jorge and rolled him over to the side.
A giant iron ball fell from the sky with a heavy sound towards where Zeke and his group were.
And then it exploded.
Kwakwakwakwakwang!
The surrounding area was completely devastated by the huge explosion.
Jorge who barely managed to survive by rolling sideways was completely lost in thought.
“Oh my god.”
Zeke immediately got up from his seat and shouted at him.
“Captain Jorge! Wake up! Check the number of survivors and get to the rear! More follow-up attacks are coming!”
Jorge looked bewildered at Zeke’s orders.
Zeke slapped him on the cheek.
“omg!”
“Wake up! Do you want to kill all of my subordinates?”
“Oh no!”
Jorge quickly got up from his seat and led the knights who were still drunk and out of their minds to the rear.
Soon just as Zeke said more iron balls flew in.
Kwakwakwakwakwakwang!
A huge explosion occurred and the surrounding area was engulfed in a heat wave.
Zig unfurled Golin’s shield to block the shrapnel.
“Diego! Aster! This way!”
They came up behind Zeke and moved together to the side.
And then a group of black yakshas came down from above wielding weapons and running towards them.
“Kill him!”
Zeke’s group fought against a group of Black Yachas who charged at them with weapons in hand.
Crunch!
Every time Zeke swung Bahamut two or three people would fall down at the same time.
“There are many! Diego! Aster! Save Aura!”
My experience of leading a unit in my past life came out intact.
In a chaotic battle situation Diego and Aster moved under Zeke’s charismatic orders.
“Die!”
A group of black yakshas with bloodshot eyes rushed towards Zigg and his group like crazy.
Zeke calmly cleaned up his surroundings.
‘No matter how I look at these guys their condition is strange.’
He grabbed one of the men who was running towards him and knocked him to the ground.
“Eww!”
The guy who screamed like crazy was obviously not normal.
And when I looked closer I could see more clearly what the situation was.
Zeke had seen a lot of these guys in his past life.
‘These guys are all Soma addicts.’
Soma distributed from the Southern Cartel to the Central Continent spread throughout the continent.
Soma’s biggest consumers were none other than mercenaries.
Although wizards use it sparingly to temporarily increase their magical power mercenaries don’t have that.
Since they were people who lived only for today some drank more soma than allowed and some even drank processed soma concentrate.
Zig gritted his teeth at the sight of the mercenary with a bad taste.
‘In this situation it is difficult to subdue them with just the Knights.’
Ordinary mercenaries tend to be afraid when faced with a swarm of knights with proper equipment.
But those who are on drugs run wild like crazy without any regard for the consequences.
Even if his arms are cut off and his legs are cut off he just kills everyone regardless of whether they are allies or enemies just like a zombie.
It was a cruel tactic that viewed his subordinates as nothing more than expendable items.
Zeke gritted his teeth and glared at the fortress.
‘Should I just sweep away the mission and everything?’
That was when.
Kwakwakwakwang!
From behind a huge fireball flew towards the group of Black Yachas.
“Kwaaaaak!”
Fireballs iceballs and light missiles roared across the battlefield.
Zeke shouted to Diego and Aster.
“The magician’s division has arrived! Stand back!”
To avoid being swept away by magic Zig took his party to the rear.
The power of the Delphos Battle Mage Corps was tremendous.
As the wizards lined up poured out their memorized battle spells other wizards behind them came forward and cast their spells continuously pouring out spells without stopping. They scorched the battlefield with their continuous magic.
Even the drugged mercenaries were no match for the magic of the wizard group.
“stop!”
At the commander’s command the magicians stopped advancing and turned back.
Zeke looked puzzled when the magicians suddenly stopped.
‘what?’
When the mercenaries pour out of the fortress and launch an all-out attack the inside will be completely empty.
It was a good opportunity to avoid a siege so I didn’t understand why they stopped attacking.
At that moment the leader of the magic group approached Zeke.
Then he shouted at Zeke.
“I ruined this mission because of you! Do you know what you did?!”
