    Episode 588

    Wooooow!

The three people who passed through the portal opened their eyes in a completely different space than before.

When the sight of the central tower of the deep-sea city of L’Rue built under the sea came into view Nabu finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“Oh my I finally got in.”

It wasn’t always easy to get to Storm Island but never before had the sea been so rough.

It felt as if the security barrier had gone out of control and was running wild unable to distinguish between friend and foe.

While the three were checking their bodies someone walked over from one side.

    “It’s been a while everyone.”

A tall man wearing a black coat and a bowler hat approached Nigel.

The man with his pale features and long curly hair hanging down from his hat exuded an inexplicable eerieness.

    Nigel nodded at him.

The man’s name is Id Van Helsing.

Commonly known as Ivan he was a wizard assassin and High Table known as the greatest beast hunter.

Nabu who had been sitting down got up from his seat and waved at Ivan.

“Hey! Ivan it’s been a while. It’s been about fifty years since I last saw you. Your face is still completely lifeless.”

Ivan nodded without changing his expression at Nabu’s words.

“It is difficult for someone who practices black magic to find vitality.”

Nabu looked embarrassed at Ivan’s polite words.

    Then Nigel asked Ivan.

“Have the other high tables arrived?”

At those words Ivan shook his head with a face that still showed no expression.

“No I’m the only one who arrived. You guys are the next ones to arrive.”

Ivan’s voice without any ups and downs sounded somehow eerie.

Manna said rolling the prayer beads.

“The others haven’t arrived yet. There are a lot of things happening that are quite different from usual.”

According to the oath with the leader the High Tables were required to come to Storm Castle whenever he called them unless there were special circumstances.

It was definitely odd that only four of the twelve High Table members had arrived yet.

At that moment the surrounding scenery began to ripple.

    Tsk tsk tsk tsk―

The place where they were was changed to the top floor of the central tower of Le Rue.

There where all four sides including the ceiling were made of glass a fantastic view of colorful marine life and beautiful coral reefs unfolded in harmony but no one paid any attention to it.

They looked at each other with stiff faces at the ‘High Table’ a circular table symbolizing the transcendent among the Highlanders.

Of the twelve people at the high table only four were people we had just met.

Nabu opened his mouth with a stern expression.

“Could it be that there are other high tables…?”

At that moment the chieftain appeared on the table with his robe turned over.

Nabu jumped up from his seat and shouted when he appeared.

“Chief! What the hell is going on!”

Then Nigel who was next to him grabbed Nabu.

“Naboo don’t get excited and sit down.”

Although Nabu tried to stop her she too spoke to the chief in a low voice with sharp eyes.

“Chief we need a convincing explanation.”

The High Tables were not the leader’s subordinates.

They were close to an alliance bound by a covenant.

Although he had the status of a transcendent being he still had attachment to the phenomenal world and needed the power of the leader to avoid the sanctions of karma and remain here without ascending to a higher dimension.

The leader who had been silent for a moment opened his mouth.

“All those who did not come here were destroyed.”

Nigel and his group couldn’t help but be shocked by the leader’s words.

It was hard to believe at first because it meant that the soul did not leave the body and ascend to a higher dimension due to the sanctions of karma but that its very existence was annihilated.

    Nabu shouted at the chieftain.

“Cow extinction? What are you talking about! Extinction! Who on earth would do something like that…?”

For a moment Nabu was startled and his face distorted.

    “Could it be Arthur Draker?”

When Arthur Draker’s name was mentioned the chief nodded slowly and drooled.

    His voice rang out again.

“Yes. He absorbed the power of the evil spirit Ajitahaka summoned by Ramon Siemens. With that power he hunted the High Tables and devoured their souls.”

Nabu’s face turned pale at the chief’s words.

It was something he could never have imagined that he could devour the soul of a transcendent being with the power of a demon.

    Nabu said with trembling hands.

“No… why on earth is that….”

    Then Nigel spoke frowning.

“It must be to elevate one’s status. To go beyond the transcendent and reach divinity.”

    Nabu shouted at Nigel.

“Divinity? The status of a constellation! How can a human be capable of that!”

Nigel answered in a low voice.

“You idiot. Have you forgotten how the evil spirit Ajitahaka attained divinity?”

Nabu came to his senses at Nigel’s words.

“…The Meat Emperor. That’s right. Oh really? Arthur Draker is the new Meat Emperor…”

The chief who had been listening to the conversation between the two slowly opened his mouth.

“Arthur Draker is after this place.”

At the leader’s words Naboo and Nigel met with impressions.

Nigel said looking at the chief.

“Are you saying that Arthur Draker is after the Black Star here?”

The chief nodded at those words.

“The Black Star is also the pants he’s after. But that’s not all.”

Nigel looked at the chief with a wary expression.

“There is so much you have not told us. I have known you for over a thousand years. What on earth is Arthur Draker after….”

The chief interrupted her words by standing up and waving his hand.

I saw something floating on the table.

It was in the shape of a book bound in black leather.

Nabu looked at the book the chief had floated and stood up from his seat in embarrassment.

    “Hey wait a minute that….”

As he waved his hand a dozen books floated into the air their pages opening.

Nabu scanned the pages hastily then stopped at one spot.

He shouted at the chief with an expression on his face as if his soul was about to leave his body.

    “Crazy! That’s the Necronomicon!”

Manna rolled the prayer beads and spoke to Nabu.

“Your Majesty what is that book?”

Then the answer came from an unexpected place.

    “The Book of the Lion.”

Ivan who had been silent opened his mouth.

“The Demon King’s soul is sealed in that book.”

Nigel muttered frowning at Ivan’s words.

“A book containing the soul of the Demon King sealed within it…”

She turned her head and spoke to the chief.

“Does showing this mean that this book is in this storm?”

The chief nodded slowly to her words.

“To be exact half of them are here.”

Nigel asked his expression still unwavering.

    “Where is the other half?”

    “I can’t say.”

Nabu slammed the table and shouted at the chieftain.

“Damn it! So Arthur Draker is here looking for a book with half of the Demon King’s soul sealed inside it! And you’ve been hiding it from us all this time!”

He grumbled and argued with the chief.

“Damn I should have suspected something when Zeke asked if something was wrong. Chief who the hell are you!”

Ivan stood up as Nabu began to press the chieftain.

Then he took something out of his bosom and threw it on the table.

    Bam!

Nabu turned his head and looked at what Ivan had thrown.

It was a red-hot ore and although it was not a magic stone a strange energy flowed out from within it.

Ivan said pointing to the ore.

“This is what came out of the bodies of the demons that attacked me.”

As Nigel reached out the crimson ore on the table floated into the air.

As the ore approached her she could feel the strange faint energy flowing out of it more clearly.

Nigel noticed what the aura was.

“It contains the energy of an outsider.”

An external species that runs counter to the general demonic order.

Even High Table has not yet discovered the identity of the external species.

Ivan nodded to Nigel and continued.

“The hands of the foreign species that attacked me were completely different from those I had seen before.”

Nigel listened to Ivan and asked a question.

    “Different? What does that mean?”

“They were intelligent beings capable of conversation and they attacked me on someone’s orders.”

Nigel and Nabu met and were startled when they heard Ivan’s words.

At that moment the chief who had been listening to the story opened his mouth.

“It was Arthur Draker who moved that outsider. The other High Tables were also attacked by them.”

Nigel turned his head and looked at the chief.

“Did you know this was going to happen?”

The chief made no reply to Nigel’s words.

Nabu who was watching this from the side shouted in anger.

“Damn it! I’ve been coming and going here for hundreds of years and I don’t know this much!”

He took a deep breath and barely managed to calm himself down before saying:

“Whoa! Whoa! Alright. Anyway. Arthur Draker is coming here to find the Black Star and half of the Demon King’s soul hidden here. And he’s bringing with him some alien beasts that we’ve never seen before. If there’s anything you haven’t told us yet Chief tell us now. I’m angry that you’ve kept important things hidden from us but we have to come up with countermeasures to stop them.”

At Nabu’s words the chieftain slowly opened his mouth.

“Arthur Draker is not simply after the soul of the Demon King itself.”

“Huh? What are you talking about? Aren’t you trying to steal the Demon King’s soul and bring him down?”

“It is true that you are trying to bring down the Demon King.”

“Damn here we go again. That annoying old man talking like a riddle. Can’t you just speak your mind?”

Then Ivan who was standing next to him spoke to Nabu.

“The leader will not be able to speak frankly even if he wants to because of the karmic sanctions.”

At those words Nabu turned to Ivan.

    “Ivan do you know anything?”

Instead of answering he glanced at the chief. The chief nodded.

Ivan opened his mouth after receiving permission from the chieftain.

“It is clear that Arthur Draker intends to bring down the Demon King. However his purpose is different from that of the Abyss.”

“What do you mean our goals are different?”

Ivan was silent for a moment and then answered.

“Arthur Draker intends to use the power of the Dark Lord to absorb his power.”

    “what?”

The evil spirit Ajitahaka was a being that gained divinity by eating beings imbued with the power of the constellations including the Nephilim.

Currently Arthur Draker has obtained the power of the mad dragon Zeus after transplanting his heart into Abel’s body absorbing the power of the evil god.

There he absorbed the Black Star the heart of the Elder Dragon and even the souls of the High Table the transcendent beings with his power.

It would not be strange to say that Arthur Draker who had already surpassed the status of a transcendent being and attained the status of a god was able to absorb the Demon King’s soul and his power would certainly grow to an unimaginable level.

Nabu asked Ivan with a confused expression.

“My god. So Arthur Draker is trying to absorb the Demon King into his body? That’s why he’s attacking this place?”

Ivan shook his head after hearing Nabu’s words.

“A being that becomes the Demon King’s body loses its own ego and functions only as a vessel. No matter how strong Arthur Draker is it is impossible for him to directly accept and absorb the Demon King’s soul.”

    “then?”

“To summon the Demon King to another person and absorb their soul. That is Arthur Draker’s ultimate goal.”

After hearing Ivan’s words Nabu frowned and thought deeply about something.

Then he looked at Ivan and said:

“Wait a minute that doesn’t make sense. Abel who was supposed to become the Demon King’s vessel is already dead and if Arthur Draker himself can’t become the vessel who would he send down to?”

    Kookookookookook!

At that moment a tremendous momentum rose up behind them.

Nabu turned around in surprise to see Nigel gritting his teeth and glaring at the chieftain.

She shouted raising her sword and aiming it at the chief.

    “You! Don’t tell me you’re not…!”

The surprised Nabu tried to stop her.

“Whoa whoa! Calm down Nigel! Even so it’s a bit much for us to be wielding swords among ourselves!”

Then Nigel pushed Naboo and shouted.

“Don’t you know Naboo! Right now that guy is trying to use Zeke as bait to catch Arthur Draker!”
