    Episode 578

    Thud thud thud!

Surprisingly it wasn’t just Kane’s neck that fell off.

The arm that was holding the sword and the other arm also fell to the floor broken into several pieces.

In a short time that could have passed by he slashed Kane with a swift sword as if he was making fun of him.

On the other hand Liam remained unscathed despite clashing with Kane’s fierce sword.

The Breaker Mercenaries as well as Kalam and the Brothers Mercenaries who were watching from behind were shocked to see Cain known as the strongest of the mercenaries lose his head in an instant.

Jaina’s face turned pale as she was unable to properly accept defeat in her fight with Liam.

‘You didn’t use all your strength in your fight against us.’

Jaina and Fein realized that Liam’s skills were not only that of a blue knight but that of a red knight.

Liam slowly approached the vice-captain of the Breaker mercenary group who was at the very front of the group.

Then he spoke in a low voice.

“Would you like to try more?”

At Liam’s words the vice-captain shook his head violently his face turning pale.

Then he immediately got off his horse bowed his head and knelt before Liam.

“The B-Breaker Mercenary Corps will follow the orders of the Stone Mercenary Corps.”

Along with the vice-captain’s words the other mercenaries also immediately knelt before Liam.

Liam looked down silently at the Breaker mercenaries who had prostrated themselves before him.

It was the birth of a mercenary king who united the three major mercenary groups on the continent.

    * * *

    “Hmm.”

Zeke was sitting in Terra’s office the headquarters located in Atlas leisurely drinking tea and looking at documents for the first time in a long time.

Boris stood motionless in front of him.

Zeke said looking through the papers Boris had brought.

“Liam united the three major mercenary groups… That’s good.”

    Boris nodded at those words.

“The first mercenary king of the continent has emerged and the news is already making a lot of noise.”

As Boris had said the continent was in an uproar with the news that the first mercenary king had emerged along with the fall of Jupiter Castle.

In fact this was the result of Zeke intentionally spreading the press release.

The aim was to prevent his movements from being exposed to the outside world as much as possible and to divert attention elsewhere.

‘Liam was famous as a mercenary king in his previous life. This time he received proper training as a knight so he gained fame more quickly.’

Zeke smiled with satisfaction at Liam’s growth.

He put down the papers with a happy heart and asked Boris.

“What is the situation at Jupiter Castle?”

“The urgent matters have been sorted out to some extent. Perhaps because Castro’s reputation was so bad the citizens welcomed the Allied Forces.”

“Thank goodness. Is Sister Helen in charge of the scene? I wonder if the nobles of the Central Kingdom are well-behaved.”

“Yes even so the nobles of the Central Kingdom were still there waiting for an opportunity to plunder the imperial treasures discovered in the castle’s basement. But after they were almost beheaded by the Northern Grand Duke they became quiet.”

Zeke smiled faintly at Boris’ words.

“If it’s the Grand Duke then there’s more. Are the Knights of Himonas still in Jupiter?”

Boris shook his head at Zeke’s question.

“No. The Northern Grand Duke who had been at odds with Count Bathory several times decided to settle the score later when things settled down and he led the Knights of Himonas and left for the North.”

“The Northern Grand Duke and Count Vlad… They don’t seem to get along. No if you just look at their personalities they’re the worst combination.”

However if you look at their abilities rather than their personalities the Archduke and Count Vlad seemed to have good chemistry.

If Alicia who had awakened the power of the Wolf King Fenrir through the Nang’a Sword and Count Vlad who was a brilliant strategist joined forces it seemed that unpredictable results would come out.

‘That sounds fun. I’ll have to make time to get together with you two.’

    Boris then reported to Zeke.

“The Commander-in-Chief said that after reorganizing his forces in Jupiter he would send the Allied forces towards the Thermo Gate.”

    Zeke nodded at his words.

“It looks like the situation at the Termo Gate has also calmed down to some extent.”

    Boris nodded and said.

“Yes the gate is closed so it looks like the camp is being maintained only by summoned monsters and demons.”

The forces of the Abyss that were supposed to hold the gate had collapsed due to Zeke and it seemed that they could no longer receive additional troops. In that situation it would have been easy for the Allied Forces to join and sort out the situation.

Zeke got up from his seat after hearing Boris’s words.

“Good. Boris you lead the spy force and help Sister Helen with the work at the Thermo Gate.”

    “Understood my lord.”

“Oh and. Have you decided on a name for the spy group?”

Since Zeke was planning to launch a full-fledged spy group he had left it up to his leader Boris to decide on a name for the organization.

Boris who had been unable to decide on a name nodded as if he had finally made up his mind.

“Yes we decided after thinking it over with the members.”

“I’m glad you finally decided. What did you name it?”

Boris said with a shining look in his eyes.

    “It’s Nemesis.”

Zeke looked lukewarm at Boris’s meaningful words.

“It’s pretty ordinary considering I spent a lot of time thinking about it.”

At those words Boris protested with a twinkle in his eye.

“What do you mean boss? Let me explain in detail why we chose this name. In Thebes Nemesis is an ancient word that refers to the goddess of vengeance and it also has a symbolic system of cause and effect and retribution…”

Zeke furrowed his brows at Boris’s lengthy explanation and waved his hand.

“Okay I see. You worked really hard to build it.”

Even though it was a reaction of annoyance Boris said with a satisfied expression as if that was enough.

“As this is a newly created organization we have thought about it very carefully.”

“Okay let’s just name it Spy. By the way that’s the new guy Dmitry right? He’s from Room 13. Can you trust him?”

“Yes he was the second most popular agent to work with when we were in Room 13.”

“I think you were number one Boris.”

    “You remembered.”

“…Anyway. Are you saying that you’re going to bring the old 13th Room agents to Nemesis through Dmitry?”

    Boris nodded.

“Since the organization is currently comprised mainly of Salmak and Six it is heavily focused on combat personnel. The information coming in from the Thieves Guild and Red Eye is good but it is external anyway. If we rely solely on their information our intelligence activities will be limited so we need people with experience in this field.”

    Zeke nodded to Boris’s words.

“Okay I understand. You take care of this.”

    “All right.”

    “Okay. Then go out.”

After finishing his report Boris bowed and left the office. Zeke sat there for a moment thinking about something then took a mirror out of his pocket.

    Woohoo!

As he held the mirror and channeled his energy into it the reflected light was projected onto the glass walls of the office creating magical images.

After digesting Satan’s power and knowledge he became more accustomed to dealing with karma than before so he was able to use his power in various ways.

Soon the face of Nabu the hermit of the story appeared on the glass wall.

    ―“Hey! Zeke!”

The hermit greeted Zeke in a voice that was somehow a little more cheerful than usual.

    “Do you look happy?”

At those words the hermit said while fanning himself leisurely.

―“Oh so that means you finally escaped from that Nigel guy’s clutches and returned home.”

It seemed like the work of helping Nigel clean up the Forest of the Forgotten was finally over.

Nabu said waving his fan gently.

―“It looks like your side of things have been sorted out. Isn’t Narak also in ruins now?”

“We lost Harvey West but that’s about it. We’re still tracking the rest of the group.”

―“Haha then I guess I can rest easy now. Aside from the hellish guys there probably aren’t any people who harbor the vain fantasy of bringing down the Demon King.”

At those words Zeke shook his head.

    “I don’t think so.”

Nabu sensed something ominous in Zeke’s words and asked in a low voice.

―“What do you mean ‘that’s not the case?’”

“Do you remember when the Black Star was stolen from beyond the Giant Mountains?”

―“I remember. Wasn’t that something you did on the Abyss side?”

    “It’s Arthur Draker’s doing.”

Nabu’s eyes widened at Zeke’s words.

―“Your dead father came back to life and took the black star?”

“It’s a bit complicated to explain but… Arthur Draker is not dead and he is not my father.”

    -what?

Nabu opened his mouth wide when he suddenly heard unexpected information.

He straightened his posture brought his face close to the mirror and asked Zeke.

―“What you’re saying is… that the destruction of the Abyss isn’t the end.”

    Zeke nodded.

“Harvey West wasn’t the problem. Ultimately the one at the center of this whole conspiracy was none other than Arthur Draker. That’s him.”

Nabu let out a sigh beyond the video.

He spoke to Zeke with a serious expression on his face.

    ―“Who else knows this fact?”

“For now this is a situation that only I know about. I don’t know if the Demon Lords know about it.”

―“The Lords of the Demon World. If Arthur Draker’s goal is to bring down the Demon King just like the Abyss then it is entirely possible.”

Nabu frowned as if things had become complicated.

Zeke who was observing his reaction asked Nabu.

“How much do you know about the leader of the Highlanders Hermit?”

Nabu’s expression changed strangely at Zeke’s question.

―“Chief. Well I’ve been watching for hundreds of years but I actually don’t know much.”

“How did you first meet the chief?”

―“Hmm it was quite a while ago. When I became a wise man and attained enlightenment the chieftain appeared before me.”

“In the form of a spirit?”

―“I guess so. That’s when the Chief spoke to me. He asked if I could help him restore balance to the world before he went to the higher dimensions.”

“Why did you accept that offer?”

    Nabu said scratching his cheek.

―“The Highlanders who remain in the phenomenal world including me are those who have attained the status of transcendent beings but are still attached to this world. If not they would have already ascended to a higher dimension.”

At those words Zeke was reminded of the great wizard Hoshigar.

As she departed for the higher dimensions she left her spirit body behind in the mansion worried about what the future might hold.

And the message she left behind was passed on to Zeke a thousand years later.

‘If there was a way to let go of my foolishness like her I would have just left.’

Ultimately although we do not know the circumstances of each person the High Tables must have had a reason for wanting to remain in the phenomenal world while receiving karmic sanctions through a contract with the leader.

‘A great sage. He is truly the one who is most attached to the phenomenal world. He will remain here refusing rest in order to correct the mistakes and errors he has made.’

The great sage must have found a way to find transcendent beings with similar foolishness as himself tie them to the phenomenal world with the High Table and break the wheel of fate.

Nabu said as he looked at Zeke.

―“Are you suspicious of the leader’s identity?”

Zeke shook his head at Nabu’s words.

“No that’s not it. I just have concerns. We need the Highlanders’ help in dealing with Arthur Draker in the future and I’m concerned that trust will be compromised if the leader continues to cling to mysticism.”

Nabu nodded as if he understood.

―“The chief is certainly a man with many questionable qualities. But… from what I’ve seen over the years he’s a man you can trust.”

“Do you believe his intentions are good?”

―“Yes not all good intentions lead to good results but it is certain that the leader is someone who wants to protect this phenomenal world in some way.”

    Zeke nodded to Nabu’s words.

    “I understand what you mean.”

Nabu said hitting his palm with his fan.

―“I understand what you are worried about. Hmm I will call the other High Tables together and discuss this matter with the leader. If the intruder is really Arthur Draker we can also aim for the last remaining Black Star.”

    “Thank you Eunja.”

―“Thank you. That’s what I should say. Zeke you always have to be careful.”

After finishing his communication with Nabu by nodding Zeke stared at the glass wall that had returned to its original state.

The glass wall showed a reflection of Zigg.

Zeke who was watching the scene took out from his inventory a drawing that Karus had previously drawn while thinking of him.

The painting floated into the air and landed next to Zig’s reflection on the glass wall.

Looking at the canvas filled with endless black shadows Zig was overcome with an inexplicable emotion.

    ‘What’s in that darkness?’

For a long time Zeke looked at himself reflected on the glass wall and his shadow on the canvas.
